    Sutekh is just disintegrated in the timevortex by the end, out of the protective Tardis sphere. And I was so happy the big bad wasn't the Daleks, Cybermen, wheeping angels or masters for once. That Ruby's mum was an ordinary person is fine. Still cried me a river. The song of Mrs Flood isn't finished and that is great! Hope that she returns in the Christmas special, she is already rocking the look. Is this an evil Mary Poppins? Oh BBC I see what you do to Disney here. Hope there is a tie-in to the Ruby let it snows, but am affraid that will not be the case.

    The reveal about Rubys mom would have been totally fine if RTD hadnt been intentionally misleading us through the whole season. Like she was obviously a weird thing or something but then he insults us by being like "nope that was all in your head she was wearing the clothes every 15 year old in 2004 was, and she dramatically pointed at a sign for nobody to see because thats just how humans name each other"

    • @SleepyWaffles
      @SleepyWaffles  2 месяца назад +3

      I feel the same. The writing felt intentional to make us think it was someone significant. Whereas in the sequel trilogy of Star Wars, i was completely fine with Rey's parents being nobody significant, because the writing of the film didn't intentionally make us think it was.

    My theorie about Rubys story is that they needed a quick result/ending.
    The actress is not beeing around for much in the next season. If she was a regular for season two I think that they would have given us another resolution to that.
    Because of the falling snow around her in special situations and the hints from the music god (forgot the name) that there is something mysterious about her....
    I believe the writers had a other story planned but they could not go through with it because of the actress leaving the show.
    So they came up with this idea making Rubys mum a regular person.....
    Thank you for your reactions, I enjoy them very much!😊

    Ruby's mum being ordinary was a interesting choice. It doesn't explain the snowing or the Hidden Music deep in her soul. Maybe it has something to do with her father? His name is William Benjamin Garnet. A Garnet, like a precious stone, like a Ruby?

  • @sonicsean34

    This ending coulda worked better if they had played fair and just been mysterious and not tried to misdirect us with literal gods declaring Ruby as wrong and magic snow happening every other episode. It woulda been great as this grounded personal arc.
    I take massive offence to RTD acting like it’s our fault for imagining greater importance than there was when I didn’t feel this in the Xmas special but only after he started in with the supernatural weirdness about the mum and Ruby after space babies.
    Also as has been pointed out on Twitter the damn lamp post wasn’t even in the Xmas special let alone a road sign, and that was the actual past not a constructed memory simulation, there was literally no way we could have pieced together the real truth.
    Also, I have never seen a road sign attached to a lamp post in this country and seeing it in the episode was the most alien non-British thing I’ve witnessed as a Brit in a supposedly British-made show.
    The Sutekh stuff was okay. I don’t think they built up to it well, it kinda bumbled its way to get to the conclusion in a way that the doctor couldn’t have actually planned out.

    RTD is very much a first draft writer and this season finale is a classic example of the flaws in his writing: emotions matter more than solid plotting and plot holes are just waved away.

  • @ryanhelton1865
    @ryanhelton1865 2 месяца назад +4

    I have the feeling they’ve had a lot of problems with this season and in making and writing it.
    The way the last two episodes have been done make me think, that perhaps RTD wrote this season to be a 10 episode season, and then he had to cut two episodes out of it. Which would explain why quite a few things don’t add up.
    And I also think it’s very likely he never intended for a normal person to be Ruby’s mum again the writing just doesn’t suggest that, and you can see it clearly in the ending he tried his best to compensate for his past writing.
    I have a feeling for what ever reason the intended mother of ruby couldn’t be used maybe over some sort of rights or something, but the writing just doesn’t make sense.
    However I do think the scene of ruby with her mum was so raw and pure it was amazing to see and I hope we get more of that type of stuff.
    .
    Think this episode had the potential to be great but again for what ever reason it looks like they was unable to go with their original plan and made best do with what they could.

    • @charg1nmalaz0r51
      @charg1nmalaz0r51 2 месяца назад

    • @ryanhelton1865
      @ryanhelton1865 2 месяца назад

      @@charg1nmalaz0r51I’m not, I’m fully aware of the terrible writing. Infact the best episode of this season wasn’t even written by him. What he has said on unleashed is commonly known as the Larry line. A show will never truly come out and say problems it’s had. But it’s obvious they’ve had a lot of problems including what looks like the complete removal of two episodes or vital scenes to the story cut out.
      Certainly not excusing his writing. I think what he has tried to do is good and the narrative he was pushing has been the best we’ve had for a very long time, but like you said sadly awful writing hasn’t done it justice which has left so many of us disappointed.

    There is an old STAR TREK episode where they all timewarp back in time to the 1960s... get mistaken for a time plane linear UFO rather than a star vessel from the future, and they disrupt the time flow of our universe. Keep in mind the stepped on butterfly paradox, or even the grandfather paradox... they know they must try to put back to rights the timeline before departing back to their century. There is a jet pilot that had to be returned to his timeline despite what the ENTERPRISE's arrival did to the jet. . Even though the pilot was quite ordinary, when Spock delved further into the archives he realized the guy was important due to WHO his son was, and what the son eventually did with his life. Spock realized it was imperative that they not change ANYTHING!!! If the jet pilot was killed or simply taken/abducted to the future, he would never raise the family he did. His son would never exist. TREK + WHO have time paradoxes. I can forgive Ruby's mom and dad for being quite ordinary. I think the two-parter is brilliant! RDT is in top form!!!

    Oof this was got s8 all over again. It would have been ok for the mom to be normal if the narrative wasn't constantly pointing and saying how special and wrong Ruby is.
    They said we made it special but that’s gaslighting the audience, the story and narrative and dialogue and the snow and the music made it special. The maestro calling her wrong made it special.
    Also the toymaker and maestro didn't see Sutek, Rose Tyler as bad wolf couldn't see him but unit's scanners can. Lol.
    Now if we watch old episodes we'll just be yhinking about sutek sitting on the tardis and wondering what he thinks about everything going on lol.
    This is the moon being an egg all over again lol. In rogue Doctor says rogue ship is programmed to orbit the moon. I'm just thinking how that moon is an egg lol. Cause that's all you can think when looking at the moon in doctor who.
    This finale completely ruined the rewatchability of the season.

    Some really well-executed scenes, but man this story was a complete mess. Things just… happened with little or no reason. What was the plot purpose of the long and atmospheric scene in which the Doctor obtains a spoon? Ruby is just an ordinary person given Significance® by everyone else. And that explains why she can make it snow and play Carol of the Bells. Because of Reasons. And because, memory is time travel. Fortune-cookie aphorisms do not make for good explanations of things.

      @@donnymiddlebrook It was pretty bad, it only works if you completely shut your brain off. Now if thats how you can watch tv then sure you do you. But for me there has to be rules and a flow in storytelling and RTD has broken all those rules in this entire season. Like for example a few things you have to ignore (and there are far more). The doctor escaping sutekh at the beginning, he runs from the death cloud towards unit tower which aslo has a death cloud, but suddenly appears in the time window room unscathed. Unit all being vapourised has no emotional value as from that point on you are just waiting for the episode reset. Her getting the dna analysis from the future which shouldnt exist at all because sutekh has killed the entire world in 2024 so the dna drive never happened. Killing death to bring life, complete contrivance and doesnt make sense when you see everyone coming back to life before he actually kills sutekh. I could go on and on and nitpick this entire episode to death. It was just a convolutely mess of a story. The pacing is awful as well.

    And i really hated the ending not only it was a cop-out but it was lazy it felt like i was watching a soap opera not science fiction it dragged too long and it was cringey this is the worst season finale since "Hell Bent" in my opinion it didnt make me cry at all i was just bored with it all i want is the Doctor and his companion to go on adventures in time and space fighting monsters is that too much to ask RTD.
