- Tuba Skinny wrapped up their last set at Bix Fest with a fine vocal from Greg Sherman and Erika featuring some great piano from Shaye, March 13, 2016 in Racine Wisconsin.
Shaye Cohn never fails to amaze me. Her instrumental ability and her voice are truly a treasure. Along with Erika Lewis and the rest of the Tuba Skinny family American folk and New Orleans style jazz are in good hands.
Cohn origins from the blessed priestly family of the Israel so no wonder that he is good with the music!
She's a classically trained pianist. From what I've read she was going to be a classic concert pianist when she took up the cornet and the rest is history.
When someone has a talent like that we are just so lucky that they are prepared to share it with us mere mortals. Thanks Tuba skinny.

Shaye Cohn and Tuba Skinny are a national treasure. There is no one better at playing this music. I was fortunate to see Tuba Skinny for the first time last year on Frenchmen Street when Greg Sherman was sitting in. He and Erika singing together are special.

she is a genius. She’s got a lot of fans here in Australia. No disrespect but I’d love to see a professionally produced recording of Shaye and this great band. I keep saying to the casual dancers and pedestrians in all these clips “get out of the way, look at this great band and just stop and listen!”

I stumbled across this band a couple of months ago while perusing youtube. I, now, can't get enough of these guys -- such amazing talent here, especially with Shaye. Having been a drummer for over 40 years, I wish I would have had an opportunity to play this style of jazz. Great stuff!

Shaye Cohn plays cornet, piano, fiddle, accordion, spoons and banjo. She is the daughter of jazz Saxophonist Al Cohn.

Shay is a classically trained pianist. she was in the conservatory in Boston before she went down to New Orleans and her traditional jazz. She then taught herself how to play accordion cornet and many other instruments. She is one of the very finest cornetists in the world and it's not her first instrument or her second. She first played cornet into the skinny. One of those fine things that happened in those early years of 2008 and 2009. Yes she is truly amazing and she has designed and drawn all the covers of their albums at least that's what I believe. She's a fine artist although not any Picasso.
I don't claim to know much about genius, but I suspect Shaye would qualify as a genius if tested. Apart from musical performance, she seems a bit shy. But if you hear her talking, she speaks with economy and precision. I think she is very, very bright.

These Musicians are Really Fantastic
Reminds me of listening to my Grand Dorothy. She played by ear. Rags and ballads mostly. For a while, she went to the local movie house on Wednesday when the new reels came in. The projectionist would set the nickels and run them for her so she could figure out what to play for the public on Saturday.

Shane has the very essence of music within her soul. The instrument is really just a means of her bringing that to the world. She expresses herself so well on cornet or piano. Which do I prefer? Yes to any why she wants. Just don’t keep it all in, but let the world hear!
