      Can sympathize with that, honestly. The absolute worst thing I can hear when something bad happens, or I'm feeling awful for whatever reason, is how much better it might eventually be, could've been, or is somewhere else.
      Then just below that on the infuriating scale is the opposite, people who feel the need to say how much worse it could be, or how you shouldn't be feeling bad because someone else has it worse elsewhere.
      It's like most people have this gut reaction to immediately divert from something bad, in either direction. Just ignore it, don't think about it, don't try to solve it, dismiss it and move on as quickly as possible. It drives me insane, because they somehow think it helps.

    When Ruby approached Yang and Blake you can tell she was mainly yelling at Yang. You can tell she felt abandoned, and the way Yang stepped in front of Blake as if to protect her from Ruby probably didn’t help.

    • @veronicaproctor184
      @veronicaproctor184 Год назад +173

      I think there's a few things going on. One, anger at others (Blake and Yang being an example) that they're able to snatch a moment of happiness when things in Remnant are so dire (Ruby was having Salem hallucinations this ep, I believe?) and the fact she can't find that moment of happiness for herself; two, the fact she feels unneeded and unnecessary, likely a combination of seeing others like Blake take the lead this volume/it even says in her song something about not being needed anymore (so I feel her 'shut up' being levelled at Blake when she was about to give the Ruby Team Leader Speech was very appropriately chosen); and I think she has a lot of anger levelled towards Jaune as well. They finally found him and he's not well, as Weiss said. Ruby sees this whole world as being a highly unnecessary waste of time, in all likelihood, whereas Jaune has been there long enough that this form of coping (he even named all the villagers after his friends) was necessary for him, but Ruby didn't respect that at all.
      I'm not saying Ruby was right in all her lashings out here, there will likely be repercussions for it, but it was all highly understandable and made a lot of sense, motivated by emotions we can all understand. Why can others be happy, but not me? Why is he being so unreasonable/failing to see the bigger picture? Why do I feel like I'm being replaced? And yeah, that last one may be a bit of a threat with Blake being so close to Yang and Yang now having other high priorities to balance, but I feel her feelings towards Blake this season are also a response to her being so capable lately (which, credit to Blake, someone had to step up and do it and clearly Ruby and Jaune had various reasons for this not being possible for them).

    They're both dealing with a lot of pressure, guilt, and regret over their recent actions and their following consequences, and they really needed to air them out. The worse part is that neither was supposed to be in Beacon. Ruby joined due to Ozpin letting her in early Ruby is still the youngest of everyone and should have enjoyed the life she should have and not worried about the thing that everyone else in Beacon had to deal with. Jaune snuck into Beacon with a fake transcript with barely any training. They both became leaders too early and saw more death than they should have if they only had more time training, but someone decided it was a good idea and the person was Ozpin. Even in supposed 'death' he manages to cause more harm than good.

They never asked to be involved in a centuries-long secret war between two immortals for the fate of humanity and the entire world. They never asked to bare the burdens and responsibilities that came with it. They just wanted to become heroes to help people and battle monsters. Not to be drafted as child warriors for a nearly-lost battle for survival, let alone not being able to graduate first.
      Why Ozpin choose one so young and one who had no experience and cheated is anyone's guess. Special powers or not. It's isn't that weren't supposed to be Huntsmen or leaders, it's just that they weren't ready. Take what happened to Hazel's sister for example.

      @@ilovemetal1100 Taiyang and Qrow likely thought they had more time. Taking in how young Ruby is, they knew she had more years of training and schooling where they had plenty of time to ease her into the idea of what her hidden power could possibly be.
      And then Ozpin got involved, and suddenly they're scrambling because now Ruby is at *Beacon* when she wasnt supposed to be yet, but Ozpin is *too powerful* to actively go up against in any meaningful way, has the old sage method of placating you while making you sound like your concerns are silly, and *at this point trying to pull Ruby would mean either pissing off someone who can practically teleport and cover more distance in less time than it takes for you to take a piss, or needing to explain why its a bad idea for her to go in so early, to her.* neither thing being something either drunkard Qrow, or widower Tai would want to deal with.
      so while i *do* agree on your point of bringing up the blood-related adults (and your name being what it is, brings about the truest of irony in that), i can also see how Qrow and Tai initially thought they had far more time to ease Ruby into what her Mother *really* was capable of, and then just, *were too afraid* to say it *after*.
      Especially since the timeline for this is a very short period of time since joining Beacon and then suddenly everything going to shit around them.

Rwby, on the other hand, basically gives up, as she's afraid of her plans failing as with what happened in Atlas, and possibly sharing the same fate as her mother. Everyone's had their moments of lashing out and acknowledgement is part of the process of healing. Being positive all the time is actually a problem, which is what Ruby had been trying to do. In her mind…Blake and yang while a happy moment, feels like they’re rubbing it in her face. That they get to be happy, while ruby can’t even touch her weapon and no one cares. Ruby's plan would've probably worked if (1) Cinder wasn't clued in by Jinn or (2) Weiss didn't throw by saying "one-way ticket", but it was still a very naive, optimistic plan with no contingencies for enemy action. I think that, for a long time, Ruby had at least a minor belief, deep down, that she was the storybook hero just like her mom, that she could succeed where everyone else had failed. She obviously doesn't have that any more, but it definitely feels right in some way for Jaune to call her out, that "it's all about you." Not to say Yang is a *bad* person. Only that she is displaying very common interactions: what Yang wants, comes first, and if along the way Ruby is helped or gets something out of it, sweet. if not, welp, that's the way the cookie crumbles, right? Jaune was right to call her out on that. Their plan was awful and lead to another kingdom being destroyed which caused Penny's death and Weiss to lose her home.
    Edit: Yes, Ruby was best suited to be the leader in volume 1. Yang was too hot-headed, Blake was a loner and Weiss was too busy being the posh mean stereotype. But, Weiss was right in debating if Ruby should be the leader and Ruby herself didn't want it. No one gave her training either. Not a single teacher or older student pulled Ruby to the side to give her individual training, instead she was just thrown into the deep end. After re-watching scenes from this and other episodes and a youtuber's topic on her breakdown, that "shut up, don't do that" has more meaning. Blake has been unintentionally brushing off Ruby's feelings and changing the topic. When Ruby was upset and was trying to speak up when Yang asked what's wrong after cat brought up Atlas, Blake said they have other things to worry and shouldn't talk about home. But when Jaune was showing signs of issues, she was ok with putting their problems aside to help Jaune and Ruby looked pissed the whole time at the table. (This isn't to down play Jaune's trauma because it's a serious problem as well). She told Blake to shut up because she was going to do it again or try to make things positive. It didn't help that when they were in the ponderstorm, the important thing that was bothering Yang and Blake was getting THEIR feelings out and when they comfort Jaune after the village flooded, which is why she said all that stuff to her friends. Ruby saw that their feelings were more important and when she wants to say something, looks obvious depressed, or Yang barely trys to talk to her, getting home is more important. She's been holding her feelings since the 2nd episode. No one was noticing nor reading her behavior and wasn't comforting her. Yang was trying but keeps getting interrupted then forgets about Ruby. Ruby comforts Weiss after the attack at the market and Weiss expected Ruby to cheer up Jaune. She was sick of that and is why she said "why do I have to be the one to pick people up. What about me." When Jaune blamed her for everything, that hurt her but she also hurt Jaune. The youtuber said she was hurt because it was Jaune of all people to say it and I believe that plus her believing that was true. She break down before in volume 8 when her plan failed. People may call her selfish but her mindset isn't in the right place. In her mind she thinks no one cares and she isn't getting any emotional support.

      I agree to all(what a read😉👍), Ruby said shut up to Blake cuz she was really done with empty optimism that get them to this point inculuding herself. She does need to vent and get things out of her chest than given hope. Ruby saw everytime things were more important than herself such as Blake saying they should focus on getting them taller or getting home(cant remember her exact words), then at pappervillage she saying Jaune needs their help more than getting home plus he is best one to lead at hand rn him being there long(that brings us also Ruby thinking her emotions doesnt matter as much as his and she isnt needed anymore even though its not really the case), also we have ponderstorm which thought BB issue was more important (not saying to belittle ship, storm could make Ruby face her own issues rather than theirs) etc.
      Maybe I said same things as yours but I trully think they should have talk things or let her (and themselves) grieve for Penny when she woke up after passing out instead of trying to get on the road immediately. Not to mention they were awake most of time if not none at all since end of v7. Maybe her lashing out wouldnt be as destructive as much, its just mine wishful thinking tho.

      yup. people who get mad at Ruby for it have the emotional understanding of a used tampon. they obviously have never struggled with depression on the level Ruby is currently. also something that is scaring me: recall the poem from which Ruby's mom gets her name ?
      ‘Tis the last rose of Summer,
      Left blooming alone;
      All her lovely companions
      Are faded and gone;
      No flower of her kindred,
      No rose-bud is nigh,
      To reflect back her blushes
      Or give sigh for sigh!
      I’ll not leave thee, thou lone one,
      To pine on the stem;
      Since the lovely are sleeping,
      Go sleep thou with them.
      Thus kindly I scatter
      Thy leaves o’er the bed
      Where thy mates of the garden
      Lie scentless and dead.
      So soon may I follow,
      When friendships decay,
      And from Love’s shining circle
      The gems drop away!
      When true hearts lie withered,
      And fond ones are flown,
      Oh! who would inhabit
      This bleak world alone?
      now there are some disturbing parallels that work just as well for Ruby as her mother in the last part.
      "so soon my I follow WITH FRIENDSHIPS DECAY and from Loves shining circle THE GEM Falls away"
      when TRUE HEARTS LIE WITHERED and fond ones are flown oh who would in habit this BLEAK World ALONE?
      THE POEM ISN'T JUST ABOUT SUMMER BUT ALSO HER DAUGHTER THE LITERAL LAST ROSE OF SUMMER!
      RUBY IS IN DANGER DAMMIT! THE EVER AFTER IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST PLACE TO LOSE SENSE OF SELF AND THA'TS WHAT SHE IS STRUGGLING WITH SHE QUESTIONS HER VERY EXISTENCE SHE DEFINED HERSELF BY STORIES OF HER MOTHER OF BEING A HUNTRESS NOW SHE CAN'T EVEN TOUCH HER BELOVED CRESCENT ROSE. Especially for Ruby just being 17 years old and the second youngest in the whole group, I think her plan was genius. The only reason it fell apart, was because Cinder learned of it via Jinn.
      And honestly? Given the situation that was occurring in Volume 8, they were frankly out of options. Mantle was about to be bombed, Atlas' defenses were stretched to their breaking point and it was a matter of time before Salem would reform and take direct action to retrieve the Staff of Creation.
      In the end, while the staff and lamp were lost, the plan still fulfilled it's main objective: Saving the people of Atlas and Mantle. Even though we don't know the situation in Remnant right now, we do know this: Winter is protecting the refugees and now the entire world knows Salem exists.

      The girl deserve to finally be *human* for once. I argue that the reason people say she's bland and uninteresting is because a) The story switches character focus a lot, so not that much time developing her specifically
      and b) The poor girl's development is slow and steady as hell, and its all centered around her stress, build up and then explosion. I'd say its a subversion of the Chosen One idea. Like, with the silver eyes and leader role and whatnot, she was clearly being pushed as a quasi-chosen one, despite mentally not being ready for it yet, and people kept trying to push her to be one so fast so soon and expecting her to BE a perfect protagonist with all these traits just left her a confused, scared, angry and quite honestly, *directionless* girl who tries her best to not fuck up in the situation
      Fun fact: people under stress and massive expectations can fuck up ROYALLY if nobody else lend a shoulder to share the burden. Or like, try and offer any new ideas. Or *go behind everybody's back and told state secrets before it was cleared*

He decided himself what paper pleasers should do, when the creatures themselves are symbolic of acceptance and moving forward for him-- Hence, their long for 'ascension' to the Tree.

    I think Weiss is going to be the one that rebuilds the bridge to both of them. Blake look terrified of Ruby during her breakdown and in that same breakdown tried to sweep it under the rug by saying “I know everything seems bad now…” (I don’t begrudge her for this though. They’re in a bad situation that they DO need to focus on getting out of). And Yang looked like she was about ready to throw down with Ruby.
    Weiss got to be on the receiving end of Ruby’s outburst as well. And watched Jaune verbally rip into HER teammate. And yet she showed both of them patience, compassion, and understanding. Even when she called out Jaune, there was no anger in her voice. Simply concern and worry.
    Did Weiss fuck up in the market by giving Ruby grief for looking out of sorts? She did. But I think, with this scene, it’s clear she’s going to be the one that’ll bring both of them back from the brink.
