Looks like a good travel solution. I have the Flair Neo Flex, but they recently redesigned it to include a pressure gauge while keeping the $100 price tag. If Hugh found a way to do the same I would probably purchase it.

Oh, just heard you mention that in the video, lol. Should have watched before commenting!

Nice review, Asser. I think this lever system might be more durable than Wacaco's pump one. I had a Nanopresso that I used daily and it last about 2 years before the pump breaked.

I live in South Korea and have never heard of this company. Interesting gadget.

Considered the previous version, but also had doubts about the longevity. Not in the market for another portable espresso maker, but seems like it's actually a solid option now.

Yeah, I actually have one of the V3's at home and it's been fine with my limited testing, but there was always some nagging doubts.

Thx for the review. Didn't know they're already on their 4th iteration.
I was looking to buy one at some point but not convince, then bought Nomad and Staresso-SP300 instead. Nomad if I stay mainly on hotels, Staresso if I'm mostly outdoors or couchsurfing.
When traveling i only drink medium-dark roasted espresso, saving the light roast only for filter/aeropress, n I prefer pressurized basket when traveling.

I tested the smaller Staresso a while back. It has the option to do capsules, which I thought was actually pretty cool for this more rugged kind of travel :)

Appreciate the video. Its always good to hear about new products/companies. As I think ultimately, it makes tech go up and prices go down (overall). I'm still relatively happy with my picopresso, which now has a super travelable stand that breaks down flat, and of course the pressure gauge. ((although I have had problems with the gauge, and it seems others have too. So, I have to contact customer service to try and figure that out)). But without the gauge I'm still happy with the coffee it produces. (limitation being the amount of water you can pull)

Thanks Brent! The Picopresso is probably the top rival here. It's cool, but somehow I see it as more of a gadget rather than an everyday device.

@@coffeechronicler I feel you. However, after the seals on my Zacconni Riveriera failed, I brought my picopresso into work, and its been a daily driver here in the office, so I can't complain.

Have you compared it to the pro version? I have v2 that I have used without any problems, then I switched to pro, and it feels even better, really solid and produces high quality cups.

Biggest difference is the brew chamber on the Pro, which is insulated better, has more volume and less open surface area. So it feels a bit more "safe" to brew with. Preheating is about the same for dark roasts but I think you can get the Pro a bit hotter on 2nd and 3rd preheat whereas the open chamber on V4 leaks the heat more. Haven't tested this with thermocouples yet, but will at some point. And then of course, the pressure gauge will be very helpful for newbies, but less important if you already know the typical range.

thanks for the great video. It convinced me to get one. But I am not getting a good crema with this. Is it because of the grind size ? I used a (rather cheap) manual grinder set at the finest grind size and also a store-bought espresso grind lavazza but neither seemed to yield a good crema. Do you have any suggestion?

    • @coffeechronicler
      @coffeechronicler  Месяц назад +1

Most likely reason is that the coffee is not fresh enough. Same with preground coffee. If you feel like it requires significant force, like pressing around 15-20 kg on the device then the pressure should be at the correct 6-9 bars (and the grind size is fine enough) and that leaves the coffee as the likely explanation.

Great video! I have a question: breville sgp + zp6 or only df54? I want a setup for pour over and espresso

In Brazil, sgp + zp6 is the same price as df54

@@matheus4972 If it's the same price, I'd probably go for two grinders as it's usually more convenient.
