Big selling point for me on the Zerno was how quick it is to swap burrs. Especially with the blinds, I can swap in like 10 minutes or less
Took me like 45-60 minutes of struggling to change burrs on mine lol BUT it was partly due to trying to poke the magnetic blind burr from behind through the the wrong hole (gigitty). Once you get the hang of it though it should be pretty quick, swapping between blind and non blind burrs is not going to be any faster though, you gotta screw in or unscrew the pegs that stabilize the burrs where the bolts would be, so it's an extra step adding or removing them, but swapping between different sets of blind burrs should be quicker I suppose.
@@BensCoffeeRants My first swap also took me nearly an hour for the same reason 😂 Once I figured out that trick to loosen up compacted grounds, much faster.
Newer batches don’t use the set screws at all (since batch 5) because the magnets are stronger, so no screws at all to touch other than the carrier during burr swaps
That photographic lens analogy was spot-on. I suspect that after most grinders start adopting very tight tolerances, pre-breakers, and variable RPM adjustment, it will really only be a matter of burr choice, and the grinder hunt will be over for most folks.
Would love to see the Lebrew 64mm Filter in direct comparison to the Ode Gen 2 burrs. Thanks for all of the great work!
Thanks Asser. Great to expose us to different burrs outside of SSP. Have you tasted the LeBrew 64mm filter burrs set against the OdeGen2 burrs. Thanks.
Having gotten an Orca, I can agree that quick burr swapping has made my experience much more fun over the last few months, and I really hope the company makes more options soon.
Which orca did you get?
@ the OG one with the interchangeable ghost and flats
@@alexwilson27 👍 I don’t see that model in stock anymore
@ yeah it’s been sold out for a bit, I’m imagining they’ll come out with a second gen model soon
I have just got a WUG2 83a grinder. It's designed to swap burrs quickly and easily. You can have lab sweet, ww core flats, 83 mazzer conicals etc and many other burrs. The burrs are pre aligned on carriers and take about 5 mins to change.
And there seems to be for me at least zero retention , not even 0.1g difference in vs out.
Nice, definitely an under-rated / lesser known grinder with amazing and unique capabillities, I'd love to try one, or get one, one day maybe :)
@@BensCoffeeRants yeah. It took a few years watching users and saving for it.
I love your straight forward reviews. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. I have the niche duo and like the idea of switching burrs. Coffee taste is changed with different burrs.
Do the kinu burrs fit in the j-max? Do you have a link for the kinu burrs?
Cheap high-quality chinese products are an absolute game change for home coffee brewers.
SSP burrs are great but so so expensive!
A few years ago, a single doser with ssp burrs would have cost well over $1000 - it now seems you can easily get something similar for $400 or so with a DF64 and Chinese brew burrs!
Thanks for introducing the Lebrew burrs! When you installed them into the ZP-1, did you need to use the extra burr carrier that comes with the grinder? Or did the burrs fit in the default carrier?
Extra burr carrier. The holes in the standard burr carrier don't fit most burr sets.
Thank you!
Lebrew is a brand to watch out for. They have roaster tools like roast colour analyser, density meter, moisture meter etc at a fraction of a price compared to established companies like Lightells. Now they have expanded into burr market, I think they will be a major disruptor.
Going onto the LeBrew website, I just saw that they released a sweet version as well in 64, 83, and 98mms. Im probably gonna try their hyperburrs to upgrade my ode 2
How was it?
Im thinking of doing it to
Hi, i bought the lebrew filter 64 for my df64 gen 2, is it possible that i find less clarity than the stock burrs? I have them since few days and i’m not an expert, but to me seems like they have more body and less clarity, this is strange because they produce less fines (i can have a super fast v60, but to me seems like it extract more even if i go coorse). I’m using a couple of natural coffe, is it possible that i have problems with alignement? Or maybe i have to wait some kilos before they start performing? Last thing, the smell from the coffe grounds it’s worst than the stock burrs, it seems muted, maybe at high rpm there are friction problems? Thanks in advance for suggestions 😊
Needs atleast 3-5 kg to season
Would you consider stopping the ode 2 burr for the LeBrew? How much of a difference would it make?
I can try it at some point. I did test it inside the Gevi grinder already, which is very similar in design to the Ode and it was super tasty and IMO had better flavor separation than the Ode Gen 2 burr (no side-by-side testing here - just an estimation).
@@coffeechroniclerthat would be interesting, though investing $140 into an ode 2 @ 350 takes it to $490, so the question is Are there other grinders at $500 that will do a better job for pour over? I know Timemore 078 is around $700. Is it worth the extra $200 over Ode 2 with upgraded burrs? Or is there something else I should consider?
@@coffeechroniclerplease try it out im definitely interestef
@@123romanrimo the ode gen 2 beats any grinder for pour over at its price. It has great burrs already.
LeBrew states the burr height with tolerance with ±0,1mm or ±100(!) microns, which is huge when you think about alignment. Maybe its just a very generous specification and they are much tighter tolerances anyway, but if not they could be hard af or impossible to align
Nice to see the options growing. I finally got a flat burr grinder and the Brew burrs based on your recommendation. Love them so far. I do worry my alignment could be better because the marker test doesn't seem to work on those finishing teeth. Would love to see how you go about alignment for burrs like those.
Great to hear you like them. My philosophy is if it tastes good, the alignment is good :)
Got my eye on the Varía VS6 with interchangeable burrs.
Great video again. Thanks. Do you know if the Kinu burrs will fit in the J Ultra? Thanks
Not saying it can't be done, but the cone burr is fixed to the axle, so you'll have to do some serious work to release it which might cause issues.
Thanks! I will then keep J Ultra for espresso and I will use my ZP6 for filter/aeropress and also my Nano when traveling light with Aeropress. Thanks!!!
I've been using the kinu POB for the past 18 months or so
with many coffees it's amazing, but if the roast is a bit off, or it's a natural coffee that fermented a bit too much/in the wrong way, it's extremely unforgiving
OOOUUUUUCHHHH!! at the Hoffman sting...but actually, I totally agree with you 😬
respectfully disagree, here. i quite liked both of those videos (one was some good old fashioned backyard science, and the other was a peek behind the curtain of the coffee industry), and while the nature of the content on his channel has shifted over the years, i dont think it has shifted in a negative way. your opinion is of course valid tho
@@Crokto James we know it’s you 😝
@@Croktosuch a minor jab to worry about
@@rjScubaSki not sure what about my comment gave the "worried" vibe lol. Just voicing a different perspective
I recently got the varia vs3 and ordered 3 extra burr sets. Two were the ultra ans ultra s. The other was the hypernova iridescent for espresso. So far I tried the iridescent and the ultra s. The burrs are easy to swap and I agree that flavor profiles change. Hope to test the other 2 more soon.
Even with the Niche Duo you'd still need to make sure you clean out all the crevices to make sure your alignment isn't way off when you put things back so that's an annoyance but I agree that would be cool to see more easy swap burr carrier design, as long as you don't have to sacrifice retention or alignment / build precision.
💯🎯 in 2 different grinders you can tweak the cup taste by the choice of brewing vessel and filter combination and pouring style wc makes pour over more fun
Seems a bit weird to me to only change the cone of a conical burr set while retaining the static burr. Surely the result you get is going to depend as much on the interaction between the cone and the static as it does on the design of the cone?
True. I compared the pob on k2 vs on kinu. Obvious difference
@@dan138zig Which means you're spending $50 on a random, unknowable result. Or at least until a compiled list of outgoings with various grinders is published.
@@mccrispy which is why you should put the POB into a kinu or a grinder with the same ring burr as the kinu, such as the 1zpresso JE
The POB was designed for the Kinu M47, which uses the Italmill burr. The Italmill is widely used, available in multiple different mountings, and is also copied by many. You can tell just by looking who is using/copying the Italmill design (and who is not, like Etzinger). Of course there are subtle differences and different coatings, but if the dimensions are identical, then it'll grind :-).
What's the best espresso focused burr if you can only take one with you for a 6 months trip? TIA!
I wonder if that kinu burr would fit into the 1zpresso j-max.
I wish the Zerno release with the option for Mizen Omni love those
They plan to have those… it’s just not there yet
Asser do you know the part number for the disc that you’d need from the JE plus to install the Kinu POB on the JX / JX Pro?
Sorry, I don't. It seems like some Kingrinder K2's come with the same part, but not all.
Do you clean your grinders frequently? I wonder about mold and how often one should clean their grinder
@@Alex_Coolen cleaning grinders is about getting rid of rancid coffee oils and old coffee grounds stuck in crevices
Can someone come out with an upgraded burr for the baratza encore!? The only option is the M2 burr.
@@RedwoodEmpire925 it's good though
@@tommihommi1 is it? Haven't got it yet
The baratza encore ESP has an upgraded version@@RedwoodEmpire925
@@RedwoodEmpire925 Yes, it is. Noticeably better than the M3.
Still not as good as most highly regarded conical burr hand grinders around the Encore's price range, but I think that's mostly due to the high RPM motor, not the burr set.
What's the best 64mm espresso focused burr if you can only take one with you for a 6 months trip? TIA!
Very interesting video! I currently have and ode with SSP MP burrs, but I find that I'm usually getting either underextracted brews, or astringent brews. Every now and then I get a really good cup, but it's too rare to be worthwhile. Would you recommend trying the Lebrew filter brews as an alternative? Do you find them to be noticeably more consistent/forgiving?
Yes, I'd actually say both Lebrew and SSP Brew burrs (MPv1) are more forgiving.
do you know if the kinu burr will fit into j-ultra or k-ultra
Or X Ultra?
Very keen to know this also
How do this burrs compare to the ode gen 2 burrs? Would it be a significant upgrade?
Any idea if there is a third party that supplies 55 mm burr alternatives for the Eureka Mignon Specialità?
On this note, is there anything like a Varia VS6? it seems its really easy to change burrs. Id love to watch your take on it, btw.
Think it's pretty unique, but haven't tried it yet. The much more expensive Wug grinder can also do both conical and flats.
I wish someone can test that Pour over Burr to the Lido 2, if I'm not mistaken someone already test but not compare with the original Kinu M47. But Lido already made the 3 edition burr for pour over which is more or less similar to zp6 burr.
Great video, I completely agree it would be great to be able to swap burrs. Hand grinders seem obvious candidates for that. Is it possible to swap the kinu burrs into any 1zpresso model? I would like to try it with the kmax.
The old JE is the only easy fit, but in theory the whole J series can work (with mods). Don't think this burr design works with any of the heptagonal grinders.
Huhhhhh. I know u talking abt burrs but that quick swap grinder had me interested. I own ssp 64mm cast burrs which are better for filter than my old mazzer set
Is there a FLAT BURR SET for the J-Max by 1Zspresso?
My 064s was super greasy inside and i think im not swapping burrs anytime soon🤣🤣
Is the shaft diameter for the kinu burr 10mm? I've been researching this too and I suspect that the standard 48mm cone burr shaft is a 10mm shaft, but I have not had any confirmations yet. If so then this may make the K6, ZP6, Italmill, Kinu, Lido/Etzinger, MHW R3, and probably many other 48mm cones somewhat interchangeable with each other. Daryl Bueno hilariously was able to interchange the entire shaft/burr assembly and catch cup between the K6 and ZP6.
Also I feel that this is a prime niche for the momentum handgrinder, having an espresso focused and pourover focused, bottom burr assembly that can by bought separately would make that thing immensely more attractive.
I really like my kinu grinder with ZP6 cone burrs. It fits prefectly.
@@arturoflores5011 Where did you manage to get a ZP6 burrset? Or did you just take it off a grinder?
@@chahahcI toke it off from my zp6 grinder. This cone burrs is extremly similar to Lido 3 grinder, and quite similar to Royal Flair grinder. All of them made for Etzinger
I am pretty sure it's 10mm for the kinu. I think I have the exact geometry measurements in an email a seller sent me -- if you are needing those, I can look...
Thanks for the insights! With regard to the brew burrs, do you think they fit into the q2 (heptagonal bought 2023)? Thank you so much
@@danielkolland7225 Thanks. No, unfortunately too big.
@@coffeechronicler thanks for the reply!
I have a 1Zpresso J-Max and was wondering if the Kinu POB would be compatible? Hard to tell from the kinu site.
I think it can technically be done, but since the J Max burr is fixed to the axle, you might damage it or at least cause some misalignment if you attempt it.
@ thank you so much for making time to reply!
A lot of the current wave of espresso drinkers are going for clarity and I find myself going the other direction. I want a thick, syrupy, sweet shot. I tried SSP Sweet Labs burrs and SSP High Uniformity burrs. The latter were impossible with the Cafelat Robot. I mostly just channeled. I also have tried three different Kingmore grinders which produce nice shots. It's hard when most product reviewers are looking for that next step in better clarity when I'm really going the other direction.
So, with that in mind, anyone have recommendations for burrs for a DF64 or hand grinders that go for thick, syrupy, sweet shots? Cheers!
I am really excited about the blind burrs (with the screws mounted on the underside of the burrs). To my knowledge, only the Zerno has them as an option(?) I would like to see a head-to-head comparison between the traditional and the blind. Common sense says one will get a more even grind with increased cutting.
There is also the ITOP 40Plus
Despite the number, it has 64mm burrs blind burrs
A buddy has it. Quite nice for espresso that also integrates acidity and fruit cery well
Does anyone know if the Kinu burr fits into 1zpresso JX-Pro?
It's possible that it might fit with some mods, but the cone burr of the Jx Pro is fixed to the axle, so you will potentially damage the grinder by trying to remove it.
Tranks for the reply. I guess it’s also 48mm so probably wouldn’t anyway :/
Heloo! I want to get different burr sets for df64. I mainly make espresso. Occasional filter. Currently have a dedicated Kingrinder k6 for filter.
I was thinking of getting 2 burr sets as shipping can be combined.
SSP HU and lebrew filter was what I was thinking. Thoughts?
I read ur article on SSP burrs but they do not have cast v3s. Still unsure of which 2 burr sets to try out.
@@JaLLY77 I'd suggest Lebrew Sweet if you also want something for espresso. It's a good allround option.
@@coffeechroniclerso SSP HU and lebrew sweet? Thank you for your response ❤
Are Lebrew Filter burrs compatible with Sculptor 64s? thx
Does the kino burrs fit a k4 kingrinder?
It might, but will require some modding. Think K2/K3 are the more natural fit.
Will this Kino POB work / fit in a JX ?
There are some differences between Jx models in the outer disc that locks into the cone burr, and most of them have a slightly uneven fit that prevents it from working. You might be able to sand two of the pins down or use a different adjustment disc from a Timemore C2, but still then it's not working great. But if you have the correct adjustment disc from something like the 1Zpresso JE, then it should work just fine, although with a different flavor profile due to outer burr differences.
We would like to see how this burr set goes with ode 2 , as we can see you already have ode 2.
it will be much appreciated if you test it.
A great review as usual Asser 👍
If you remind me, in about 3-4 weeks, I will try to tell you...I have the hyperburr ordered, just not here, yet.
I tested it inside the Gevi, which is similar in construction. Performs very well! And thanks!

Is there some one who test lebrew sweet ?any comparaison with ssp burrs ?
Yes :) Review on out on my blog this week
@coffeechronicler thnx :) I am curious about difference with ssp ,because I have already the lebrew 64 sweet,of course huge update from my old italmil burrs in my df64,
I saw some negative opinion about ssp cv2 for espresso that they grind near the zero for espresso and need a lot seasoning
in my case with lebrew sweet not seasoned yet I am surprised that I grind espresso with very good range in setting between 15 and 20!
When will there be alternative burrs for the 078s?
I love this video! Ive been thinking about this for the past month… It also makes a lot more sense for the environment to not have to buy a completely new grinder just to have a new profile. I hope burrs also get cheaper… not sure why a SSP have to cost the same as a new ZP6.
Thanks! A lot of coffee stuff is expensive because it's low scale. But Mazzer and Eureka burrs are relatively affordable, so think it can be done.
A bayonet mount like lenses would make it fast and easy to make interchangeable burrs.
Does anyone know if the Kinu m47 burrs work with a Kingrinder k6 or 1zpresso X pro S? Thanks.

I don't think it's making fun of him, it was an actually funny remark. And Hoffmann does have a great sense of humor (or humour), I'm sure he'd be OK with it.
It is also true though
A lot of us started with Jame's Videos. I used to pay him monthly, then I stopped paying and still watched. Now I watch one of his videos every 2 months. He doesn't *really* like doing product reviews and that's really what most of us want. I don't really care which celebrity is putting their name on what.
