I’ve had an OutIn Nano for a few months that I use in the kitchen (haven’t used it outdoors yet) because I’m too impatient for a real espresso machine. I used the small basket that comes with it for a few weeks and got surprisingly good espresso from it, albeit a ridiculously small output. I quickly realized I needed the basket plus and am glad I bought one. Filling it is so much easier due to its size and the funnel. The tamper with the funnel combination works great. I use a 1Zpresso hand grinder (set to 16 clicks, on average, depending on the particular roast). I fill the water chamber to Max (just above 70 ml) and get a consistent 50 ml output. I use boiling water becIm in the kitchen and it’s easy and quicker. I don’t see much difference in taste between the different basket sizes - both a make very good shots. If you’re on the fence about buying an OutIn Nano, go on and try it. Be sure to get the basket plus - it’s completely worth the extra $40.
I have the outin and I want to say that this is probably one of the best coffee devices out there.. very good quality for its price ... really appreciate your review, your opinion matters a lot !
Cool video, well done, thanks. 2:46 “looks like a thermos”, takes lid off, “now looks a little more like an espresso maker”. But also kinda looks like a thermos without its lid?
Thanks for the vid review. Super cool to know that a portable espresso machine that can heat up water exists! Taking a kettle (especially if you need one that uses fuel) is a pain. This is kinda game changing!
Can you preheat the internals when using cold water? Is there an option to do a quick flush through once it’s heated up before you load it with coffee?
Great video thank you. I have never heard of this device before. Looks pretty cool, I do have a question, if I buy the plus accessories will the replace the stock accessories as far as fitting together for on the go, or do I have to carry the plus accessories separately in another carrying case ?
Thanks! The basket, cap and "portafilter" can be locked in and stored in regular fashion. But there's no "natural place" for the tamper, funnel, and wdt. The tamper and funnel fit together though, so they will be stored as a single unit.
I have two questions, against the picopresso with the bigger basket, would you say the shot quality is better? or is it just as good? And against the flair espresso maker pro 2 which shot would you say it has better quality in general?
I'd say on average it's just as good as those two, but in a few rare instances I have pulled better shots with Pro 2. I might do another video on it since I have come to like even more as I have been using it.
I’m using a Timemore grinder at settings 7 or 8 for espresso, but I’m still struggling to get the right shot, even with a basket plus. My shots either come out too fast or too slow. Any advice on dialing it in properly?
If it's the Chestnut C2 or C3, the steps can be quite big. It's possible to buy a special adjustment plate that effectively doubles the number of settings. Otherwise, you can try tamping lighter or reducing dose with 0,5 g until you get the desired flow.
I bought this coffee maker to enjoy it in the cockpit because I'm a pilot, but the pressure in the airplane won't let you brew your coffee like it should. If you are more than 7000 feet above sea level, the machine can't pressurize the water enough to brew the coffee correctly. It's a shame because at sea level or about 3500 feet, it works seamlessly, but for me, I had to hold the rear cap while it was brewing to make it work. It should have these kinds of warnings before you buy it.
Sorry about that, but on the other hand also interesting to hear! I brought it with me on a trip a few months ago, and I'm almost certain that I brewed on the plane. But it was probably a capsule, and not a regular shot. Those might not require the same pressure. But now after your comment I'm unsure if it was really in the air or on the ground 🤔
Some of us actually live above 7000' msl. Almost everything cooking/eating related require adjustment for altitude. 😊for example cannot get water above 195 F where i live.
I used it twice on the plane a few days back. I used the nano basket plus and a kingrinder for grinding fresh. I tried a Columbia natural and an El Salvador washed and the results were very good with a well extracted shot. One was also slightly on the bitter side and had to grind coarser and got a very good cup of coffee. So maybe the basket plus might be a nice option to try. I can say for sure it was above 40000 ft on an Emirates flight from Europe to dubai.
I have one that i use when camping, but it doesnt handle high altitude super great. I realized later that they dont suggest it. It works, but not to its fullest.
Great coffee maker just dont expect any customer service if you have a problem. I only want a new coffee basket seal (O Ring) and CS are no help at all. I even asked for the size to source locally and they gave me the wrong size completely. Would recommend for the coffee but would not recommend if you expect good customer service.
Is the battery easily replaceable? Can it handle doing a series of back-to-back shots or does it need a break in between to cool down or something along those lines?
The non replaceable battery is a concern for me as well. This looks like such a nice gadget, but like a lot of today's tech it's essentially a disposable item due to everything being sealed inside and not user serviceable.
For those who own one - does your coffee puck come out soupy and wet on the top? Or is that normal for this machine? I still have a way to go with dialling my shot in... 17g coffee - 38g out in 50 seconds 😮💨
@@winstonyee1541 it doesn't have a solenoid valve like a regular espresso machine, so excess water has nowhere to go. The main way to solve this is to run your shot a bit shorter so the excess water has time to drain out. Besides that it sounds like you need to grind a bit coarser to get a more typical extraction time. This will probably also alleviate the soupy puck.
Is this the same thing as the iCafilas portable espresso maker? This is like exactly the same thing I got on AliExpress for $93 CAD! The included Nespresso and espresso baskets even look the same, and the button presses are the same too lol. I heard you say 7 grams is best for this? They told me 8 lol, it was a tight squeeze haha! Have you reviewed anything from iCafilas?
My experience with these small pumps is that they are not a likely point of failure. And didn't see any red flags when checking out customer reviews. I would be more worried about battery life span.
My first thought was that batteries would be added weight if you were hiking, but compared to the weight of the grinder it's probably pretty negligible. I mean, nobody is adventure racing with an espresso setup lol
The batteries failed about 2 years in but a few screws and just pop some new 18650s in (spot welder needed total cost of repair including spot welder £40) and the device cost me £100 used.
If I'm somewhere outside I'll just use drinking water from a bottle I have with me and let the machine heat it. But at a hotel room I'll use a kettle to save battery life. In theory you could store water inside the device's reservoir, but the cap is not screwed in securely, so I probably wouldn't run the risk.
I'd be interesting to see the results with water preheated and stored in a Thermos and using the heater function. It 'should' in theory be a compromise on battery life if you use mostly hot water to start...no?
It's a bit of an apple and orange comparison, but with the basket kit I think it makes just as good espresso and is a lot more flexible in terms of heating, capsule options and ultra-lungo shots (more about that later :)
if they added a slider for pump voltage on the side and some type of bluetooth or wifi pressure transponder that can do a smart espresso profiler type of thing with a scale it would be pretty sick
I have another Strauss story.. While wearing one of my technologically innovate Engelbert Strauss tops, a colleague ‘curiously’ asked: I didn’t know you supported Tottenham Hotspur’s? Almost offended (because I’m born in and supported Arsenal - the top cup winners here, where Spurs are next level not winning) I replied “I don’t” what brought that on? And they pointed at the Strauss logo on my top… Guess it resembled the Spurs mascot they have on their tops.. 😅
Be careful guys mine is not working after few attempts with capsules. There is a lot of complain. Please be aware the is not a good product. I am very disappointed for the price...😔
i think this product so overprice hehe, yup i found same product with same mechanizm and same result coffe. it is ICAFILAS but i never find the basket pro on ICAFILAS, so i bought Outin basket pro plus this so expensive i paid!
I do not get it! What is portable about this espresso maker? You need a coffee grinder and a scale and everything has to be very precise. Does not make sense. Using pods is not the answer because with pods you get a poor espresso.
I brought it on a road trip this summer, and had no problems fitting a small scale and a manual grinder in the car as well. Saved a lot of money on gas station coffee and tasted great!
Commercial too long. We already know about Magic Spoon. Just present the product. 😊 I hold down the screen to fast forward and it took forever. Thanks.

thank u for sharing professional reviews. looks like a really interesting device to give it try😊
Oh, great to see a review. I've been watching this guy for a long time but hesitant. Might actually get it now
Can you preheat the internals when using cold water? Is there an option to do a quick flush through once it’s heated up before you load it with coffee?
Thank you for the PRE-heat step !! Amazing !
Is the basket pressurized?
What's the purpose of the first double press at 6:46?
Thank you very much for this review. I’m trying to decide between this one and the Conqueco. How would you say they compare to each other? Thank you.
If you are traveling the Outin is about a pound lighter!
@coffeechronicler Thanks for the tips ❤ look forward to your future videos and articles!

If you use a normal Nespresso capsule, will it make the same amount of coffee a Nespresso machine would (40ml)? Sorry if it is a stupid question
It depends on how much water you add in the reservoir. It can both make longer or shorter, depening on that.
Thank you, for the video. Can you stop the machine if you want your espresso especially short (ristretto)? Thank you
Yes, no problem, just a quick press on the button.
I have this, and love it. Now want to get the basket plus attachment.
How many coffee we can make in one complete charge?
Apologies if I missed it, but what materials are the water ''tank'' and basket?

Does it work in submarine or in outer space?
You can probably make it work with the barista kit/different basket shown in the video! That one doesn't rely on pressure.

Is the battery easily replaceable? Can it handle doing a series of back-to-back shots or does it need a break in between to cool down or something along those lines?
Not sure about the battery. They don't mention it on their website. Back-to-back shots are fine if you use preheated water.
The non replaceable battery is a concern for me as well. This looks like such a nice gadget, but like a lot of today's tech it's essentially a disposable item due to everything being sealed inside and not user serviceable.
It doesn’t heat up. I have to send it back. I held the button for two seconds, it made the same sound as it made for you, but nothing heats.
This one or the Hugh leverpresso, which one makes better espresso
What do you think makes the best espresso with this machine pods or the basket?
The special pro basket kit for sure...
Nice review. Tak!
Can the machine also operated when connected by USB to a powersupply like an powerbank or 12V?
The manual says no.

Yes, if you take off the cap, you can just refill the water and it will keep extracting. Only works with water boiled on a separate kettle though.
Where do you get that awesome double walled coffee glass
It's the Kruve Imagine glass; I write a bit about them here coffeechronicler.com/best-cups-for-latte-art-cappuccino/
Wow, I kinda knew this was coming someday but still I’m a little shocked
This is my everyday set up... It's great
How is the taste compared to picopresso?
I wonder how robust the pump will be. Do they guarantee a number of shots before failure?
My experience with these small pumps is that they are not a likely point of failure. And didn't see any red flags when checking out customer reviews. I would be more worried about battery life span.
My first thought was that batteries would be added weight if you were hiking, but compared to the weight of the grinder it's probably pretty negligible. I mean, nobody is adventure racing with an espresso setup lol
You could always pregrind and vacuum pack. For a daytrip I find that it's an okay solution.
how many are still working after 1 year?

Definitely. It has already saved my life on one occassion :) For frothed milk I haven't tried anything better than the NanoFoamer Lithium.
