Thew, the best way to think about Derek's stuff is you're saving it from scalping bastards. You're doing a great thing. Preserving it so his memory lives on without being passed around for profit.
Best part of last year? Being introduced to you by my 15 year old son, an avid collector of TF toys and lore. Sharing all of it with me. Now we don't miss a new show and watch them all together. Thank you @Thew for your joy, exuberance, and passion. I'm not a collector, but you a real favorite and a treat.
My best friend Dave was a huge fan. When he passed away his MASSIVE collection was sold to pay for the funeral costs. Included in that was the G2 redux box set that I gifted him before he moved away. I thought I'd never see that box set again but some friends were able to find it and mailed it to his sister. She traded it back to me for an Action Master Soundwave and a custom Shattered Glass WFC Optimus Prime he made for me. Not a copy of the set, the exact one I gave him. It had the "love you bro" letter that I included when he moved. And the Fans project Blesser figure I'd gifted him too. It is now the centerpiece of my collection and I can tell you that owning a piece of the collection of someone that mattered isn't morbid and Mr. Wyatt would be proud that you ended up with a piece as Dave would be happy knowing I got that box set back. Rock on!
@@gabrieletraini3849 Dave was also an award winning drag queen so he was the best transformer in my life. I miss him every day and that sassy bastard saved my life after my divorce. Everyone needs a Dave. Here's another bittersweet heartwarming tale. Unfortunately a few months after he passed his mother followed. I'd grown closer to her and Dave's sister after we lost Dave so I was invited to the funeral. Due to something embarrassing that happened at Dave's Funeral I wasn't able to bring myself to go in. I panicked and left. I instead went around the corner to his favorite comic shop. They had his favorite episode of Transformers Prime playing on the TV and I was able to get a copy of Marvel Transformers issue 1 for 8$. I'd Also later gifted him the G2 Cindersaur that came with the set. But the bag it was in was stolen at the airport. While cleaning the other day I came across another one and I cannot for the life of me remember when or how I'd replaced it. Now I want to track down the Rapido and Sharkticons to complete the set. I don't think it's morbid to want to have part of somebody influential's collection. It preserves something special- a feeling, or a memory of a person. And it'd good to know that his stuff is being looked after by people who loved his work.
If anything, I'm as excited to see the number transitions for this year as I am to see the new robots! EDIT: About Wyatt's collection. This is what he'd want to happen. For his own toys to be inherited by fans all over the world, whether they be franchise fan icons like you, or randos like everyone else. He loved the community, and he'd be totally fine with it, I think.
Honestly I love seeing Derek's stuff at a toys and games store. It feels way better than someone trying to scalp and sell his stuff on ebay. Love that you've got a few pieces and it kinda brought a tear to my eye. Keep on keepin on friend
For Wyatt's collection I think it is awesome. Those figures are great pieces of the fandom. His story will continue to be told as those figures spread and people learn about them.

Idk why, but I always prefer the cons to be massive (probably cause I grew up on the movies and Animated) so I approve. The 2 of them live up on my shelf with Prime basically pulling a Bloodborne Visceral on Jhiaxus and it looks so damn good.
While I haven't said it too often lately, I've said it in past videos - I have little interest in Transformers personally, but your excitement and adoration for the product and buckets of charisma has made me a lifelong fan of your work (and an infrequent purchaser of Transformers toys now of characters I dig.) i think probably my favourite transformer from this year is legacy skids. first off, your review of all the other skidses set up the reveal of him as a really neat moment. secondly, he completely changed how i view my collection. he was just a truly lovely autobot car, and the plausibility of the altmode made me want more like it, which got me into collecting the generations diaclone figures, and just really appreciate earthly car modes in a whole new way. lastly, the toy itself is very nice.
So glad to see you doing so well. Discovered your channel when I wasnt doing doing so well during the ~ongoing badness~ and you were just a beacon of absolute light for me. Much, much love to you and yours mate. Cant wait to see how 2023 goes for us all
A lot of legacy, for me at least, was broadening my spectrum for transformers. I mainly watched G1, the Unicron Trilogy, and Prime - so to be introduced to these new bots and wanting to figure out who they were was so fun. My stepmom bought me Jhiaxus, and it was so cool searching around to find everything I could find about him. Honestly one of my favorite baddies now.
Love the choices, fun times. Also, I find it infinitely amusing you made it into an US Wal Mart. They are ridiculous. Also want to say, DONT feel bad about having any of Derek Wyatt's figures. I've got other interests besides transforming robot dudes, and in another circle, a friend passed away, and his collection was purchased in lots by us, his bros. Some of the proceeds went to charities too. The last thing my pal wanted to happen to his collection was it to get scattered and tossed, and All of now have a small item or items that remind all of us of our pal.
Congratulations on such a big year Thew! Can’t wait to see what you do this year! And since we’re on the topic here’s my top ten finds of 2022. 10. Legacy Override 9. Bumblebee Movie Soundwave 8. Legacy Tarantulas 7. Energon Optimus Prime 6. Cybertron Megatron 5. Legacy Inferno 4. Studio Series Sideways 3. BB Brawn 2. BB Shockwave 1. Victory Saber
"Does (Laser Optimus' trailer) need more going on on the sides? Yes please!" Toyhax has the solution for that!😎 Yes, "injured" is a fair word for one experiencing Haslab's Unicron. Not only is it too big to the point of impracticality, but the engineering is just a joke. For a price point as exorbitant as that, it is NOT unreasonable to expect more than a glorified shellformer. Happy Thew Year!
You know what, every time I get a bit of the old anxiety you seem to post a new vid as if you knew I needed some good wholesome robot content to ease my nerves.
Was waiting this count down to come though was legit surprised to hear that you were in USA last year and legit picked few items that were from legendary Derrick J. Wyatt's collection. Bites that I never get to have pleasure to see legendary Walmart during my USA trip in 2018 but I get to visit in Evergreen store from where I picked my only and official TR toy.
Nice top as always Thew! I'm here still processing that you were in LA and I'm just learning about this now lol, so cool that you got to experience that!
Brilliant assessment to the year. Side note Thew, never thought of giving Jianxing Winged Dragon a go before this Legacy TM2 Megs came in? That one is a brilliant piece to be fair.
I look forward to this list every year, as much for the top 10 albums as the top 10 transformers. Always get some good recommendations and a positive retrospective on the year for transformers, so thank you for putting these out, Thew. Here’s to a great 2023!
I love your number one spot! I got the Transmetal Megatron for Christmas and he is easily one of my favorite toys in my collection, here’s to 2023 and another great year of Thew’s Awesome Transformers Reviews!
Thew you know what's weird? I frequent Blast From the Past almost every weekend. So many trips I picked up that Windblade and thought about buying it. The fact that you bought it is absolutely mindblowing
Good shout on Jhiaxus, it's got fantastic presence and attitude. The gurning uber-angry head sculpt, expressive hands and extravagant colours make it really special.
Been watching your channel for awhile. One of my favorite and one of the best Transformers channels. Awesome and entertaining content. Great personality and you seem like a good dude. Thanks for all the work you put in to make these videos. Always make me laugh.
Awesome to see you made in to LA! Since I live in the area I ended up with some of Derrick's figures as well, namely one of his Animated Toxitron/Sideswipe 2 packs and that Ehobby Sunstorm in your short clip of the display case! I guess I own a piece of Derrick and Thew fame now! Hope you enjoyed your visit!
Literally pointed at my screen upon hearing your visit to Blast from the Past! Popped down there myself during Thanksgiving weekend, saw a lot of great stuff, really a nice tribute to Derrick.
As for the bots from Derrick Wyatts collection that you picked up, I see it like this, I believe that we all want our collections to go to people who will cherish and enjoy them as we did when we had them. A good example would be some of your very unique and one of a kind Skywarps. When the time comes, wouldn't you rather they go to a younger collector who loves the character as much as you instead of someone who's gonna give it to their 5 year old kid. I truly believe that his collection is going to the kind of people he would want it to go to.
Hey Thew, i've been watching since day one, video one. You and your videos have been with me through good times and bad times, the brood times and the rad times. I've watched your channel grow and watch you get better and better every year. I'm so happy for you and all your success and glad you are living life and enjoying what you do. Keep on keeping on my dude and here's to many more years of robots, laughs, and the mad bearded lad.
Happy New Year Mr Thew! Need to get me Jhaxius and TM2 Megatron. Gotta agree that Devin Townsend’s “Lighthouse” is a bloody stunner of an album! Love it!
I personally like Scourge about a hundred million billion times more than Laser OP. That deep black and bright magenta-red make him a seriously mean customer, and it’s the color scheme I wanted Nemesis Prime in. It also helps that RiD and Armada were among my earliest exposures to Transformers, so evil long-nose cab Optimus in black and red is something I’ve always wanted a modern toy of.
My bro also got a Senator Ratbat off kapow at TFN last year he's a great bot. Dragon Megatron has made it onto a lot of lists this year, I hope that you are well Thew
Hey there thew I'm a huge fan and I just wanted to let you know that all your fans love you keep up the amazing content and I'm so happy to know I'm not the only person who loves transformers. One of your biggest fans lots of love
The way I’ve been putting it with Motormaster is that Menasor is basically his Powermaster form that his friends can attach to if they want. I mean, i still like it and will get all the Stunticons, but it does bug me that you don’t really need them for the combiner. It doesn’t feel like a gestalt when a part and the whole can be almost the same, and it sucks that the other option is Combiner Wars with its jank and the almost necessary need of upgrade parts (not now Volcanicus). I don’t know, it looks great, but it doesn’t sit quite right when the other four feel like accessories.
The G1-cartoon Menasor is a silly design and among the least toy-accurate in a series notorious for taking liberties with the toys it was designed to advertise. It wasn't meant to work as a toy, thus any toys of it look daft.
@@MathewHaswell i mean, I think it *looks* great, i just wish it utilized the other figures more. They just feel like accoutrements to the Motormaster show with how the combiner is executed. If the CW Motormaster had a better torso mode, it would have been a great
@@InfernalBanana CW Motormaster has too much of an identity crisis. The weird torso-mode comes from shoe-horing in an opening chest, both for the look of the Optimus versions of the mould and to create a space for Blackjack to attach to mimic to OG combiner's chest-kibble. The wonky execution of Legacy Menasor is just the nature of the beast. That's how the combiner looked in the cartoon. Seems more stable than similarly-done third-party Menasors, though. The legends/core-scale set from Magic Square looks *flimsy* as can be.
There were quite a lot of banger on 2022, huh? Happy New Year, Thew, it's so heartwarming to see that the niche reviewer I started watching around Generations Cosmos has gone to be so succesful, recognized and HAPPY about what he does.
Congrats on a mega 2022! Quick note on Victory Saber and any effect parts, absolutely do not leave the blast effects on any toys, the dissimilar plastic...melt into each other after a while for lack of a better term. Best TFs this year all the Menasor bots and Victory Saber are super close to the top. TFC Toys Hades redo ranks up there too
It's become a little pleasure of mine seeing what color your nails are going to be in each new video. I love getting to see my favorite creators having fun, and the nails are just so fun and cute and lovely. And you've had so much success this last year! I'm so happy to see you having fun and getting to do what you love, still enjoying yourself as you make a living out of it. Concerning the DJW thing- You're coming at it from a very genuine source, preserving a little smidge of a person who did so much for the Transformers franchise and the animation world. You're good, man, you're good.
Thew, I love the way you think about the year every year and I always think the music list has some of the best variety of anyone. I have also not been bothered with Menasor yet. It will probably change once I get breakdown. You will do those Derek pick ups the justice they deserve
Never touched a Nemesis Prime, it is just not my kind of thing. But when I saw the repaint of Laser Prime I went for it because I was not going to buy that mold and it looked a brilliant toy. Also, I rarely do cheeky re-paints, but Clampdown looked so good, plus he was the other 1-of-1 along with Cosmos so I bought him as a consolation prize of sorts because I had to hit up Ebay for Cosmos proper. Great stuff, cheer mate!
It 100% is not weird.wanting to own something that somebody you have idolized and thought of as a hero has been going on since probably the dawn of man don't feel bad
Personally, I'm glad Derek J Wyatt's collection lives on, rather than some heartless bank boy repossess his house and throw his whole collection in the bin.
18:02 Disappointed; feeling injured; damaged something in you. Once again Thew finds the words for feelings you didn't think there were words for. That's why Thew's in the big leagues, so they CAN send their stuff to a poet!
Of of my unexpected favourites from 2022 Velocitron Road Hauler. I only bought the figure to complete the Speedia set, and to complete the Grapple mold set. But, because of that extreme shouty face expression, I couldn't help but play with the figure and put him into all sorts of extreme poses.
I think it's great that the collection is remaining in the fandom for the thing he so loved. What's the other option? Throwing it away? Having it go to random people who don't know or appreciate where it's been before? It staying with someone who did know Derek J Wyatt but who honestly doesn't care about TFs? I think it 'lives on' a lot more in the hands of many collectors elated to have and appreciate it. It becomes soulless anywhere else. It's not like it is the sort of thing that there's a loving museum for it? Idk I guess it just feels like 'fandom heirlooms' (like 'family heirlooms') going back out amongst the collective, where they can pick up even more associations and good memories, like yours.
Yep I agree with you about Dragon Megatron being the best figure this year. I was on the fence about him til I saw you gush over him in the Hasbro video. And yeah Jhiaxus is surprisingly awesome. I find myself pulling him out and playing around with him often.
Love the top 10 but my favorite part of the videos is always the top 10 albums/songs. Cause I always get new artists I've never heard of and they're always great
Earthspark finally started creeping in at my local Target, including Whirl and Windblade's illegitimate child. If there's one thing I think the Laser Prime/Scourge mold could have used, it was a couple of extra missile racks to go on the sides of the battle platform. As it stands, it has one tiny gun and a grabby claw when the original had a disc launcher, a pressure launch missile rack, an air pump rocket, and a spring-loaded transformation. The tanker on its own is pretty good, but as a "base" it's kinda dinky.
Thew, the best way to think about Derek's stuff is you're saving it from scalping bastards. You're doing a great thing. Preserving it so his memory lives on without being passed around for profit.
exactly, if youre getting it to cherish and preserve, then I'm sure Derek would be happy to know it found a good home
Out of the talons of parasites and in the hands of someone who can appreciate it.

Nothing makes me immediately happy quite like the Unicron Theme.
Simon Furman's Generation 2 run was definitely under rated.

"Ultimate anime robot".
And somewhere a single tear ran down Mazinger's face
You know what, every time I get a bit of the old anxiety you seem to post a new vid as if you knew I needed some good wholesome robot content to ease my nerves.
Was waiting this count down to come though was legit surprised to hear that you were in USA last year and legit picked few items that were from legendary Derrick J. Wyatt's collection.
Bites that I never get to have pleasure to see legendary Walmart during my USA trip in 2018 but I get to visit in Evergreen store from where I picked my only and official TR toy.
Thew, thank your for a amazing 2022, your videos were the only thing keeping me awake for this whole trainwreck of a year
Nice top as always Thew!

I was kinda hoping that you'd say Charlie was your number one find of the year
We actually met 20 years ago and we started dating in 2021 so I don't count 😅
@@charlyrandle2112 Don't you go bringing facts into this! These rose tinted glasses are GLUED ON, BABAY!
You are honoring his memory and work. That's not morbid, it's honoring a legacy.
Thew you know what's weird? I frequent Blast From the Past almost every weekend. So many trips I picked up that Windblade and thought about buying it. The fact that you bought it is absolutely mindblowing
you and me , i also go there each friday
Good shout on Jhiaxus, it's got fantastic presence and attitude. The gurning uber-angry head sculpt, expressive hands and extravagant colours make it really special.
Been watching your channel for awhile. One of my favorite and one of the best Transformers channels. Awesome and entertaining content. Great personality and you seem like a good dude. Thanks for all the work you put in to make these videos. Always make me laugh.
2022 through the eyes of Thew!
the late Derrick J. Wyatt's collection is awesome especially the Japanese ones.
Moon Studios really did a good job on the train-bots.
Looking forward to more videos in 2023. Hope the next year is a fantastic one for you Thew.
what a timing, thank you thew! amazing way to end my night.
Those first couple drum beats of transformers always make my neurons fire
Literally pointed at my screen upon hearing your visit to Blast from the Past! Popped down there myself during Thanksgiving weekend, saw a lot of great stuff, really a nice tribute to Derrick.
Derrick and Co ideas were amazing, it was true to the characters and/or their intended purpose.
I don't see many people who listen to Rammstien anymore! Its so good! Im glad your enjoying it

Nice to see you looking well Thew! Great vid as always!
Please, please keep Suiken posed holding baby Suiken on your shelf.
"Never talk to me or my giant son ever again."
Happy New Year Mr Thew! Need to get me Jhaxius and TM2 Megatron. Gotta agree that Devin Townsend’s “Lighthouse” is a bloody stunner of an album! Love it!
Derek would love that other collectors are enjoying his collection 😃😃😃😃
YOU ROCK THEW! GREAT LIST!
Right before the music break I thought to myself “Thew would probably like Heriot, wonder if that’s on here”
I always love when thew uploads a new video it’s always so fun and funny
I personally like Scourge about a hundred million billion times more than Laser OP. That deep black and bright magenta-red make him a seriously mean customer, and it’s the color scheme I wanted Nemesis Prime in. It also helps that RiD and Armada were among my earliest exposures to Transformers, so evil long-nose cab Optimus in black and red is something I’ve always wanted a modern toy of.
I had absolutely no intention to buy Jiaxus but I think you convinced me.
Transmetal 2 Megatron is a triumph. Could use a wrist swivel but it is absolutely the most substantial leader class of the recent generations

Would love to see a repaint of Jhiaxus as the God Phoenix from Battle of the Planets 🤟🏻
I'd love to see a museum display at some point in the future, for Derek.

Transmetal II Megatron is my #1 for the year too, love him! (and my only Beast Wars figure)
I think Optimus being Orion Pax before is a good part of the lore
I love seeing you so happy Thew
You say Jhiaxus has a weird transformation but he transforms a lot like Blitzwing. Or Movie Megs.
I wish I loved anything as much as this man loves Transformers
Thew, I love the way you think about the year every year and I always think the music list has some of the best variety of anyone. I have also not been bothered with Menasor yet. It will probably change once I get breakdown. You will do those Derek pick ups the justice they deserve
2022 certainly had some good Bots come out. I can't wait to see what 2023 brings us.
Senator Ratbat wears the mold better than Scourge
Never touched a Nemesis Prime, it is just not my kind of thing. But when I saw the repaint of Laser Prime I went for it because I was not going to buy that mold and it looked a brilliant toy. Also, I rarely do cheeky re-paints, but Clampdown looked so good, plus he was the other 1-of-1 along with Cosmos so I bought him as a consolation prize of sorts because I had to hit up Ebay for Cosmos proper. Great stuff, cheer mate!
I went to Blast from the Past just a few days ago, to think I could've run into one of my childhood heroes in my area
ACAC - All cops are cars!

Prediction: Given how much he loved the dang thing, TM Megatron will be scoring fairly high.
EEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYY.
