Really helpful video and I want to try it in my kitchen as I’m planning to do some renovations. Did you secure the island with the floor or the weight of the island will just hold it in a permanent position? Thanks.
Awesome I'm glad you got inspired! I did, I just used two little L brackets. The island is so large it's hard to move but these work great to keep it 100% secured.
Moving solid wood slabs like it weighted nothing. Love it! I want an island but my kitchen is small and is not practical 😭😭😭 loved your job looks amazing!
@@dcwoodworks hay thanks for replying. It is a small house so the kitchen is shared with the dining table. Technically the dining table is my island 🤣😂. Hopefully one day I can expand a house and have a proper dining room and free up space for an island. I could build a small one but small and tall worries me that I will tilt it over with my clumsiness. However I think I should analyze if my kitchen could be remodel into a more practical design.
Hey! Thanks so much. No I used L brackets in spots that you cant see like inside the cabinets and inside by the floor before o put the kick plate on. Hope that helps!
This is a really great idea. I really wanted an island for our office kitchen but I couldn't find one with the right dimensions or that was in the budget but I am thinking this will fit the bill! And as a DIY, it is definitely affordable.
The recommended worktop overhang for a breakfast bar is 300mm. This overhang is needed to be able to get chairs and your legs underneath it, to be able to sit comfortably. The smallest width an island with breakfast bar seating for 2 people can be, is between 1000mm & 1200mm wide. This is because you need between 500mm & 600mm for each seat under the breakfast bar
Wow you do amazing work making an island in one day🎉. I'm just looking to see how I can make my island taller. ( Looks like getting a thick piece of butcher block is the way to go!!) ❤
Thanks so much! You could also see if your island is removable And build a taller base. Then you could just cap it in baseboard and paint it to match Good luck !!
