    For me, doing this cleaning up is just like solving a puzzle!

    • @WoodysAR
      @WoodysAR 4 года назад +2

      Nice. Almost like the classic sculptor who in a way, sees the perfect finished statue in the potential of a raw boulder (all he has to do is take away what 'doesn't belong'). Just as we know there is a perfect model waiting inside every tesselated mess before us. A PERFECT number for each shape or composite, so that one less Vertice or Face would hurt the models integrity, but any more would be superflous... (uh,.. and without using Pro Optimizer, _right?!_ HEHE LOL) That truly is a joke BTW, Because, to be honest we Humans seem best able to solve that: 'Puzzle' you speak of, than any mesh optimize algorithm I have tried in 30 years from TOPAS or 3D Studio, or Softimage, MAYA, Blender or even 3ds Max. Only we Humans seem to be able to 'perfectly' optimize a complex object, _by incorporating creativity_ and not merely 'rote' algorithms. ;")

    I've been working with Maya for over 20 years. Back when it was only working on SGI's, running Unix operating system. Sometimes I think to myself, "Man, I've have mastered this crazy Maya app!" :-) and then I watch your videos and realize there are still things I can learn. lol, The technique you just demonstrated is something I use quite often. It's one of my favorite approaches. However, I just picked up a handful of really good ideas from you.
    So it goes to show, that one never stops learning.
    I kind of knew that already LOL that's why I enjoy watching your tutorials cuz I'm always picking up ideas here and there from you. So keep it up please, I really appreciate these videos.
    It's really good of you to put the work in and make these tutorials, and offer them to the world.

      YAY! I feel the same way, I have worked in 3ds Max since before there was 'Windows' and it was 3D Studio for DOS but between 3ds Max and Unreal I spend nearly every waking minute if not working, then learning! In 3ds Max (and Unreal) we say: *_There's always at least 10 different ways to 'make it happen' in Max! (etc)_* (You probably have a similar saying in Maya and/or blender :)

    Man you had me crying laughing with those puns and memes bro. Nice reroutes. Minor question, how is smooth wireframe different than enabling anti aliasing?

    • @fragglerocks2335
      @fragglerocks2335 4 года назад

      They're completely different things. The anti-aliasing just improves the look of the wireframe by removing jagged edges whether the model itself is smoothed or not. Smooth wireframe (preview) just applies a subdivision algorithm to the model and shows you in the viewport how your model will look when subdivided. Arnold will actually render the smoothed mesh preview at render time without having to apply any subdivisions to your model which is pretty useful.

    Hey I've been wondering this for a while, what is your opinion on new vdb boolean workflows that are available in Softwares like Houdini or Cinema 4d, specifically for hard surface? I find that even tho converting vdb to polygons creates quad topology, it feels a bit wrong to model like that without those clean edge loops. Would be great to know what you think about this.
