As others have said so well, excellent video. In my case, I would have probably spent around $400, but even then it would have taken two months for an appointment. The clarity of this video allowed me to brave the repair myself and I couldn't be more pleased with myself. (lol) Cost: $84 for diagnostic report, $17 for sensor from Amazon. Now I look forward to saving $84, next time, by using my new diagnostic scanner ($98.99), and @chrisfix will be my first stop every time.

Saw other RUclips videos on this... By far this is the best one with the best lighting/video angles.
Dealer quoted me $550 USD for this fix. Sounded way too high for me.
On my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport replacement, removed the entire caliper bracket along with attached Caliper (squeezed a little caliper cylinder w clamp to ease removal/installation of entire Caliper Assembly).
The use of the offset 14mm wrench - bought a set for this fix - to remove the lower bolt on the caliper bracket was invaluable, else it would required more disassembly in the rear suspension, something I was not willing to do.

Great video - thank you! I replaced with one called RLB-Hilon from amazon for $13. Solved problem of the 3 warning lights on dash indicating ABS, stability ctl and downhill control. Remove tire, disconnect old sensor by removing retaining clip, remove caliper, drop strut that blocks caliper bracket bolt (because getting a box wrench into that spot is tricky), remove caliper bracket, rotor, wheel bearing assembly, then pry old sensor out with knife or very thin screwdriver. Replace, assemble in reverse. All good! Note the sensor for the front is very different and for AWD vehicles the rear sensors are also different.

I have a 2012 Santa Fe. Your video was almost exactly on how to change the abs sensor. I was able to to do it and saved $350. Thank you.
SN: The 2012 Santa Fe doesn't require an offset wrench because you have enough room to do it with a socket wrench.

Thanks for the very informative video. A friend of mine has a scanner that also checks for ABS codes. The right rear sensor was sending signal that the car was traveling 170 MPH while we were sitting with the car in P.
It looks like a simple enough job, I wonder how much more the dealer wants for the part, it's cheap enough on Amazon.

This was great. Other videos say you have to replace the bearing along with the sensor because they come as one unit. Which is $50 vs $10 per wheel. Love that he showed how to test that the sensor is bad too. My sensor ohm'd out ok but when a magnet was placed next to the sensor the ohms did not drop toward 0 (Replacing the sensor fixed my problem).

Dealer quoted me 450 for one, 700 for both. This video will help me do the job myself. I bought the genuine KIA part (20 bucks! on ebay), and an 8 dollar offset box end 14mm wrench. Thanks for the clear, concise step by step video! BTW ... Auto Zone diagnosed the problem even to which wheel sensor was causing the lights to stay on for..FREE!! Only thing I may do in addition is to put a little silicone caulk at the outer edge of the part before tapping it all the way down. KIA had a service bulletin on this 7 years ago for this car, and it said it will help keep water out which can wreck the sensor.

    • @mikeb.884
      @mikeb.884 6 месяцев назад

I did this repair today. Went well after watching this video several times. On my 2013 KIA Sorento FWD I didn't need the offset box end wrench. But, after I finished, I started the car and the warning lights (ABS, ESC, downhill assist) still came on and stayed on. Rats! I pulled the car up and down the driveway. Still on. Disconnected the battery for about an hour. Nope..still on. Then, went for a drive around the block and the lights all went out! YAY! So...in my case it was different from the video which showed them going out immediately. So, if this happens to you, don't despair until you drive the car and spin the wheel fast enough for the sensor to pick up the signal. Thanks Again for the clear video!

Good video, just one correction needed, all you have to do is push the clip in and the plug will release when pulled. I looked up how to change it in Mitchell since I found the sensor separately at one of the parts stores. Mitchell said to remove the front wheel and the back seat. I think that comes from Hyundai. What? Remove the front wheel and rear seat back, that's insane. It still never mentioned how to separate the sensor from the hub. I figured I would have to pull the hub to do it but wanted to see if there was a way to pry it out without removing the whole assembly. Thanks.

Excellent. This was a big help in replacing the rear wheel speed senser in my 2017 Sorento (FWD). There was only one minor difference with accessing the brake caliper bracket bolt, and I did not require an offset 14mm wrench. My adaptive cruise and front camera also didn't work because of this failed senser. I bought a KIA OEM senser (

I wish I could give you more thumbs up. I bought the rear sensor for my wife's 2017 Tuscon.... but it's the wrong part. EVERY single part search is the exact same wrong part. (wiring harness with plastic single bolt plug sensor). What I see when I pulled the wheel off is this very thing you're replacing as the only sensor on there. I have no idea why ours is different than every single sensor listed for this vehicle. I wonder if there was a revision or something mid-year for our model or something where this sensor was changed for the one in your video. Well... I can take back the $125 part, and purchase the $20 part now. Thanks so much for this video!

Thanks for sharing your experience. I can feel how hard it was. The probe type sensor is for the front wheel only. Cap type sensor is used on rear wheel and it is sealed with the wheel bearing. Thats why its soled separately in official parts shop. Good luck.

This is not a consumable item, so you don't need to change it unless it's broken. If the ABS warning lamp is on, the vehicle may lose control in an emergency braking situation.

If you have FWD, most of vehicle weight is on front side. All heavy powertrain components are supported by front wheel . Not much load on the rear wheel. I am confident that the rear wheel bearing will not get worse before the front wheel bearing. So consider how much you use your payload in the rear.
