A little announcement at 22:35! Keep an eye out as a lot of cameras will be landing there - the Fuji X10, Pentax 750Z, Leica SL, DXO One and many others in the coming days.

@@user-sg6xv2kb8s I can answer that, and the answer is no. I had a Japan first version, quite happy with that fact actually 😁 but it developed excess sensor dust, and Sony gave me a new camera instead of fixing it 🤨 and it was a China version. Absolutely zero difference except that the China one lasted forever.

I’m so with you, it’s awesome Nons is even making this, and the cool and interesting design decisions they made seem like they add up to a fun, different, but quite functional way to shoot. Funny you got the Coyote RB back, I just got @zinstax’s Binstax back and have been loving it! Nice to hear the viewfinder is improved, that is so, so, so important on an SLR. It’s the Achilles heel of the MiNT TL70, a pretty wimpy Fresnel screen for an F/5.6 lens which makes it very difficult to tell what’s in focus. I also find just about every Instax camera I’ve tried forgets what frame it’s on if you leave it for more than a day or two without shooting (Fujifilm Mini 7, Instax Wide 100, 200, 300, MiNT RF70, TL70, Rollei TL70, they all do it; Lomo Instant doesn’t and neither does the RB7 back); the battery just goes if it’s a digital display, and maybe the tension is wrong in the ones with physical counters.
Someone’s probably already mentioned it, but I heard the double click sound from the Nons is because the whole mirror box springs to the side to clear the way to expose the film-it’s not a traditional SLR mirror system where it flips up. I think they invented this system specifically for this camera, which is absolutely wild to me. Probably since it’s only a 35mm or maybe even APS-C sized mirror, they had to design some way of exposing a much larger frame and decided on this system.
I think I should say, I’ve experienced the same eject problems as you on many other Instax cameras; Mint, Lomo, Fuji, pretty much every model has done it to me at least once. It could be the eject arm not catching the film, it could be the tension from the back not pushing the film in place, it could be the battery being low and not providing enough juice for the rollers, but it definitely happens, and is not just a Nons problem, it’s an Instax problem. The hand crank system on my Binstax hasn’t done that yet, but it’s early days so take it with a grain of salt. As I said, it’s kind of the same thing with the film counters, but that seems to work better with physical dials rather than electronic displays. Not to defend the various third party Instax camera makers too much, because heck there wasn’t even a commercially available full-manual Instax camera until the MiNT RF70 and that is kind of ridiculous, but definitely this is a type of camera where we are spoiled for lack of choice. If you read DPReview comments on the announcement post for this or any Instax camera, there seem to be a lot of “who would buy this” “way overpriced for an instant camera, I will just use my A7RIV instead” “much too big, it should be smaller than a film cartridge and then I’d buy it” comments, and that seems like a huge shame to me. Instax cameras are loads of fun, and if you can get one that offers so much scope for creativity like this one, I think that’s totally something to celebrate.
Anyway, sorry for the long comment, thanks for a really awesome video, your editing was great and the photos looked amazing! I know I’m definitely going to bid on this one.

Sorry, but no. Neither Polaroid nor Instax nor Zink (the latter is what I actually have a camera for, because Zink is the cheapest of them all) ever did it for me. I learned about Polaroid when I did a photography apprenticeship in the 80s. It was just a tool to check up lighting and composition. Today, instant film still is vastly inferior to anything else on the market, even antique techniques like wet plate provide much better quality.
Several hundred Dollars for this camera is vastly overpriced in relation to what is delivered and what it can do. It's an unreliable large piece of plastic which can produce tiny, mostly blurry pictures with random colors and unpleasant vignetting. I know that there are people out there, who love photography especially when it is imperfect. I'm not one of those. I can think of more pleasant ways to burn money.

I've been so curious about the Nons, thanks for this review! I have a base-level Instax 7 or whatever, and I have always had a love-hate thing with it. I've wanted something that could do shallow-ish DOF but there weren't many options. It sounds like it still has some quirks/bugs to work out, so I might see how the mark 3 looks, whenever it might come out.
Also, those digicam meetups look so fun! Hopefully I'll make it to one someday. Surely there's gotta be some other digicam folks in Texas... right? ....Bueller?
There is an instant film convention in Denton, TX every year which is a ton of fun. And all the times I've been to that, I haven't seen a Nons oddly enough.🤔
Anyway! Great vid as always, look forward to the next one!

Discovering your channel has been a delight. You dancing with your daughter on this one was priceless! But between you and your Aussie friend, Lucy, I'm going to go broke buying old cameras of the film and/or digital persuasions 🙂. One of these Nons will end up being a great gift for my own daughter (slightly older than yours @ 40+, yes I'm THAT old) & son-in-law who shoot pretty much only film and love quirky "stuff". But Lucy's responsible for a new Yashica T3, and your Canon 1D M1 review led to a 5D Classic (1D too big and the 5D sensor, while CMOS, is per Flickr viewing still quite unique (if not, dare I say, "filmic") ... and it's not as if I didn't already have more than enough gear. Anyhow, keep up the good work and having fun with this, it's infectious, and boy can we use more of that...

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party on this one! We had family visiting so I've got a bit behind on my RUclips watching, not difficult with nearly 200 channels in my subscription list!!
    Fun intro and ending!
I have to admit I've never had an instant camera. I came close back in the 1980's my wife had one of the Kodak ones, but Polaroid won their court case and they had to stop selling the film, so we were given the chance to return the camera and we were sent some vouchers for Kodak products or similar. It's a long time ago!
I've watched Gordon's reviews of the printers which would be great to use with an iPhone or similar.

I first heard about this camera last year. I was really considering buying it for my wife for Christmas. I decided not to since she hardly uses her instax camera as is, so getting an upgraded one might end up in the same situation. I ended up buying her an older Fuji camera (Fuji X10) and she really enjoys using it. Maybe if I can find a good deal on one, I will get it.

You should try a shift lens on it - that would have a larger image circle that should significantly reduce vignetting, even without the Nons teleconverter.

I'm curious about how the OM lens works on this camera. OM cameras meter fully open so the iris doesn't close down to the selected f-stop until just before the shutter fires. You seem to be metering ok, so is that lens adapter somehow triggering the iris or are you holding down the depth of field preview button?

FP100C was unquestionably my favorite instant film of all time, but given its lack of availability and instability due to age, and the fact that it’s about €13 per shot for One Instant film, peel apart stock while definitely superior in my mind is a massive luxury
