My condolences. I lost my dad in 2018. When I cleared out his stuff, his Fuji X100 (OG black paint special edition) was on his desk. According to his iPhoto library, he took 45,000 family photos with it. As he was in life, it’s a unique, quirky little camera - but the sum of its parts is greater than any one flaw, not unlike my old man. I am very proud to have inherited it and use it with my family photos… the journey continues.
What a beautiful tribute. I really enjoyed watching and learning about your Father - what an inspirational man with such an interesting life. We're lucky to have videos about some of our nearest and dearest, and I'd encourage anyone to interview their family members whenever they can as it makes such a valuable record in the future. Not just older members, but younger ones too, to see how they grow and change. Thanks for sharing this at this difficult time, take care.
Such phenomenal advice Gordon. I thankfully made a lot of interviews with both my parents over the years and I'm grateful to have those recordings to revisit. I try and interview my kids occasionally, a line or two, just because it's so fun to hear and watch them grow and I gratefully have some recordings of my own childhood from my dad that I love to show my girls now as well. We don't live forever but our stories can.
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I can only imagine how proud your father must have been to see your work, your family, and your many accomplishments. Rest in peace.
I could have listened to his stories for several hours - shame the format of the interview didn't allow it. What a great man and fantastic message. Hopefully you are surrounded by loved ones as you and your family process his loss. 100 agree that when he passed that he did so bravely.
Sorry about your dad. I’m a freshly minted octogenarian and I was the junior art editor at Vogue in the mid sixties. Beatrix Miller was the editor and she left a life long impression on me. Vogue studios were two floors up from the art department and there they were, David Bailey, Michael Joseph, Norman Eales et al. What a dizzying time it was…✌️
My father got me into art. When I was in college I learned that my dad was also a creative professional, before he got frustrated with it and left it for a working class life to help support his family. Even so, he was the person who always ensured I had cameras, art supplies, and advise. He taught me how to draw a cube when I was 6, he gave me my first two cameras (a Polaroid Impulse and Canon Rebel 2000). I would not have the life I do now without him. People say, "Oh, the pain will fade," or "You'll get over it with time." That's garbage. For someone who has impacted your life that much, you'll think about them every day and pretty often it will bring your to tears when something like this video comes up. But I've also found that that's not bad either. Waking up and thinking about someone who has impacted my life makes me want to do the same and impact someone when I've faded into the soothing black. I feel for you, I'm sorry and feel yout loss.
My mother wasn't a photographer, but she was the person who introduced me to photography. Every time I take photos, I always remember her. Sorry for your loss.
I still remember that words written on the back of your Minolta 7000i 'Always stay amateur' while watching your review of that camera, because it was my first SLR film camera ever. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Losing a parent is never easy, no matter how old you are, but it is something we will all experience.
What a life, what a dad - he nailed it! He must have left a massive void - so carry the family torch until it's your turn to pass it on. Love your channel and.....................set yourself free with a CCD!
So close to the depart of my own dad, in part for the same reasons. Feels like fighting against sand or water, and my days I am still thinking in being ready for a call of the day, or, similar to your dad's words about asking permission to leave the table, to give him thanks. I hope his wishes for you and his dear ones were fulfilled, and his wishes for his own rest.
Please accept my condolences. I’m blown away that you’re even online right now. I lost my mom not long ago and I know how hard this time can be. Thank you for your courage - sharing his work is so important. I really enjoyed listening to him. I am GenX so love the stories about his early career. He was clearly a deeply transformational man as well, clearly. I relate to his comments about meditation and grappling with the existentialism of life. Fascinating!! You must be so proud… I wonder if that barking dog was channeling someone? Follow your dream! ❤
My deepest condolences. I very much know the grief you are going through. I lost both of my parents this past year. My heart goes out to you. All the best.
I am so sorry for your loss. You must be incredibly proud of your father, and I am sure he was equally proud of you. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
So sorry for your loss, Ali. What a wonderful man, and what a wonderful childhood you must have had growing up with him. I look forward to learning more about your Dad, in due course.
Im so terribly sorry for your loss, he sounds like a fascinating man that will be deeply missed. As a photographer myself I enjoyed hearing his story of the early days of his industry.
Ali, that really is a great loss. I think I can empathise as my dad was a great role model for me too and he left me a few years ago. All that matters is follow your dream, follow your dreams and that will bring you as close to your dad as you can get. My thoughts are with you and your family.
He looked and sounded like one of those great speakers who isn’t sure he is a good speaker. He talked about luck and fortune, but in my experience those result from the effort, care, and discipline those people put into their lives. How fortunate you were to have him. And I agree with the other commenters that he was fortunate to have you. As a parent I am sure you know that feeling that comes when you see your children grow and develop on the road to (successful )adulthood. It isn’t pride… it is more than that. He must have felt that about you. Thank you for sharing this tiny bit of celebrating his life!
So sorry for your loss, although as your father shared his story I kept thinking how fortunate you are to have had a parent with his life experiences, creativity and perspectives. Please share his work!
I recently lost my dad as well, he always supported my photography and it always meant so much to me as he didn't do much photography himself. Take care of yourself during this time!
First and foremost, my condolences to you and your family. I lost my dad two years ago, and I know. Secondly, I've never seen your channel but all of a sudden this video popped up on my feed. I'm glad it did. You seem like a nice / pleasant person, and your thumbnail caught my attention. What a powerful photo. And what a great and fascinating message from your dad. God Bless.
My condolences to you. Your father lived a most unique and full life. I also lost my mother in law a little more than a week ago. She was a Parisian and lived and travelled all over. She was also from the generation that experienced the war and then all the subsequent changes that have followed after. I miss that connection to that past because she experienced so much. Irreplaceable people from that generation. People who believed and cherished humanity.
Watching the entire thing - I think I understand why you are sharing this. Thank you. 14:48 "It is absolutely magnificent where we come from. It is absolutely magnificent where we return to."
When he says that you, with your birth, brought back to him his inspiration after your grandma’s death, wow! You have always been his everything. Beautiful. Condolences and thank you for sharing! ❤
Now I understand the strength you have. You are an incredible woman. Because you have had an incredible father. Thanks for sharing this video. Because as your wonderful father says. "follow your dream." Thank you. !Rest in peace!.
From England. You were both blessed to have each other. I look forward to seeing more of your dad's " stuff". By that, I mean everything you have! Be strong, be proud. Lots of hugs.
I feel this so much. My father was a musician who inspired me to do the same. I lost him to cancer 11 years ago. Give yourself grace in this, your year of firsts.
I am so sorry for the loss of your father! My mother passed the same way and you start that process years before they actually leave. Your father was an amazing photographer and I thank you for sharing his work with me and my thoughts and prayers will be for you and your family in this sensitive time. He was one of the greats…
So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing this video , so fascinating. Very much looking forward to sharing his work in the future. I lost my dad last year so I am with you. My dad was the one who instilled the love of photography in me. We both always had a camera with us. Of course I still do! Thanks again for sharing and hugs for you and your family ❤!
trully moving and inspiring words , i have the luck to be the Behind the Scenes photographer for some cover shoots for Glamour Mexico - Latin America and now your father will be always in my mind when we are shooting the next covershoot . My condolences and prayes to you and your Family .
What an incredible man he sounds like. I am so grateful you shared his words with us. I am also so very sorry for your loss…I know words feel like not enough when you are going through this, please know I am thinking of you and hoping for peace and love in your healing.
Thank you for sharing this lovely video about your father, I had not seen it before. I have been acquainted with your family for many years, mostly through your mom. Wishing you every blessing, sending much love during this time of heart expansion and renewal ❤
My condolences to you and your family and thank you for showing your father’s talk. While listening to your father talk about his life it brought back memories of my childhood in the fifties and although I grew up in America we went without until the sixties where I experienced the same rebellion and the Beatles. It also reminded me of the photos I took of my parents especially later in their lives. And lastly how much I miss them. I look forward to what I know will be your loving remembrance of your father’s life and work.
Wow, exceptional. I’m sorry for your loss. I too had his near-death experience and it is very real and beyond wonderful. He is with you always. Thank you for sharing this.
I just watched a movie about your father. Thank you very much for sharing this intimate film, it really means a lot. Beautiful movie, he was an incredible man and had so much passion. I regret that I won't be able to meet him anymore. I don't know how to say it well in English, but I hug you very tight, stay strong Ali!
My condolences to you and your family! I obviously din not knew your father, but listening to him speak in this TedX talk.. I conected with him in an place beyond space and time, where we all just lead eachother "home"... how RamDass beautifully said it. Thank you, and your father, for your work and passion, and for the wisdome, beauty and truth, you bring to the world trough that work and passion! It is much needed!
Thanks for this, and for doing this at such a difficult time. I lost my dad in 2017, and seven years later I still feel the ripples of that loss when I'm not feeling at my best. My deepest sympathies. Truly sorry for your loss. Hugs! //Rick
I am so sorry for your loss, Alex. I know this time well. I thought about you yesterday, right out of the blue. Love you Ali at this difficult time ❤What an amazing man your father! Lot of us are all in middle age where we think about our lives and what we want from it. Your father seems like discovered something earlier than many and went on his path and took his chances always
My prayers are with you and your family during this season of grief. May God bring you comfort and joy as you reflect on your memories of your father and his legacy.
My condolences to you and your family. Thanks for sharing this awe inspiring video of your father and I hope you will find peace in your time of mourning.
I am so sorry for your loss. Your video is much more than a tribute, it is an inspiration for all of us parents: to be - with all our insecurities and struggles - the role models for our children. Thank you for sharing.
Condolences to you and your family and thank you for sharing this video. I listened intently and thought, my God, he would have been a wonderful human being to sit and just talk with for awhile.
My condolences! You had a wonderful father, what a life and inspiration! My dad died of Alzheimer too at the age of 90 in 2020. I miss him so much, my tears are coming up when I talk about him or even think about him, even after 4 years. I was ggoing to offer my condolences on your loss. But watching this talk , listening to your father I can see that you will never lose him.His influence and impact on the world he inhabited will always be there as I am sure they have been all your life.I look forward to learning more about him when you feel ready to share.
My deepest condolences to you and your family. Your father must have been a big inspiration to you, I am sure he gave you a lot of hints and tips in your younger days as a photographer. I loved the talk on the film you shared, so many great memories. I hope he is now at peace. I am sorry for your loss. Take care.

Take care.
