I've had my K-1 since it first went on sale, and I can't see myself parting with it. And it still looks like new, too. The sensor stands up well to modern mirrorless cameras. In fact, I think that 36 Mpx sensor is one of the best ever made, Great photos, by the way.

Wow! I purchased a SF7 in the early 90's and have only learned of digital around 2020 and picked up the K70. I'm into wildlife and landscape and feel like I'm missing out. Yup, I'm gonna upgrade soon to the K1ii! Thanks for sharing.

I've had 3 K-1s One died after 6 years of abuse including shooting in the rain with old manual focus lenses. The other 2 are still in service.

My K-1, bought used in 2017, is my real workhorse camera that I use with a whole selection of prime lenses; a few Pentax a/f, but also m/f from Pentax, Tamron, and Sanyang. Love using it as a walkabout camera, and equally love it for studio b/w portraits ( where I frequently use its 1x1 crop format ) . It has more functions than I'll ever use, but it's a really great camera.

I appreciate the sentiment. And the amazing photos too! Pentax doesn't do things by halves. They don't much hype their gear either, just quietly get on with making some of the best optics out there. I've owned film Pentax camera and lenses, telescope eyepieces and binoculars over the years. All exceptional quality stuff and a pleasure to use. I'd love to try one of these cameras, though even at 8 years old, it's still beyond my price range. Maybe I'll get one when it turns 10. That seems to be the sweet spot for digital camera affordability for me, although something tells me this camera is going to hold its value better than most. The weight and size looks formidable: it looks like it's built like a tank.

It's not really overly huge and heavy for a DSLR. It gets a bit big with larger lenses like the 24-70mm f2.8 but is really comfortable with the 28-105 kit lens or something like the 21mm limited. I often have the little 43mm limited on it and really like that lens for just general photography, it's quite small, versatile, and sharp. If you still have some of those older film camera lenses they are perfect adapting to this camera.

@@JimsPhotographyArt Thanks Jim. I had the older M42 mount lenses (still have a couple) not the K mount, which I just looked up and flange distance won't make it to infinity. My Nikon F mount lenses should adapt okay though.. and Tamron Adaptalls. I suspect viewfinder focus assist/confirm for manual focus is going to be pretty accurate on this camera.

@@zetacrucis681 I have a very large collection of M42 lenses, mostly Takumars. I use the Pentax M42 to K mount little ring adapter and it works fine, I have no issues with reaching infinity with these Takumars. The K1 was actually designed with these older lenses in mind.

I love that 43mm, that and the 21mm are my 2 favorite limited lenses. I think I actually shoot more photos with the 43mm than any other lens.

I started digital photography 16 years ago with the Pentax K100D Super, over the years I added many more Pentax Bodies including the Kp,k5 MKII, ALL Three K3 models and the K1 MKII, a camera that became my go to body along with the k3 models for events. The limited series primes are some of my favorite lens. Along with the 21mm the 31mm and 77mm are fantastic. I used the 77 mm 1.8 alot during wedding receptions on one of the K3, it was great for isolation of subjects and head shots, the 31mm was great for groups, last year I had some health issues and I stopped photographing events and went back to doing landscapes and wildlife. My collection of Pentax cameras has grown and now include Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm, NIKON, Sony and one Canon 90D, I enjoy using different cameras depending upon what I am photographing. I put down my film camera 16 years ago and now my film like cameras are the Nikon ZF and Fujifilm XT3 and XT5.

It is my favorite FF camera for stills as well. But it's also a great example of what happens when the competition which may not be as good, offers features and capabilities and a company doesn't keep up. There's no reason why the K1 couldn't have done decent video and that's what killed it for me. The rest of it I could live with happily, but I need basic 4k video functionality for what I do which even entry level FF cameras do these days.

I've never even tried the video to see if it even works in my K1 (and I've had it for almost 9 years!). I've never once even considered this camera for video......

I too love the Pentax K1 although mine is a Pentax K1 Mark II just got mine 4 months ago and I love it the camera that I have before that I still love is the Pentax k-70 and I also have their only mirrorless that they've ever made k-01 Love that camera that is paired with the sigma 18 to 300 it seems like that's the only one that wants to work with for that lens although I did use it with my K1 Mark II but every time I had to keep it in the crop mode instead of full frame because it was really ridiculously looking in full frame mode I made that mistake and I had to go back to APSC in the menu for that one but I love it awesome awesome camera I recently got the DFA 15-30 fixed 2.8 Big monster of a wide-angle lens but that produces some beautiful shots as well

I do plan don't know when I'm trying to get my hands on a brand new DFA 70 to 210
And then the last and final lens would be the DFA 125-450

Jim, on your K-1, there is something attached to the camera. Is it an L-bracket?

    • @JimsPhotographyArt

Yes, it's a RRS (Really Right Stuff) L-Bracket. I bought it right after I got the camera and it's never been off the camera since then.

Pretty sure the K1 is an amazing camera (maybe one day...).
For time being I'm pretty happy (understatement) with my KP/K5iis/K30 apsc bundle.
    Great images as well!
