    Here's a hint that's extremely important for warfare:
    Before you raise your army, move your rally point closer to your target so they don't have to walk so far. The button to move the rally point can be found on the bottom right of the rally banner menu. You can find a list of all of your rally points at the bottom of the military menu (red shield and swords at the top right). Click on any banner to open its menu.

      Or even better, if you control an island or some piece of discornected land. Use this to teleport your army back and forth to "outrun" the enemy army ^^

    • @kevinbealer6320
      @kevinbealer6320 3 года назад +8

      @@GreenLarsen yea, this works, but it is less effective than you may think. If you disband an army while you are in a war then they are put on a really long cool down timer. So unless it would take longer to get to your destination than the cool down timer is, it's not worth it.
      Unfortunately even if the war ends shortly after you disband your troops, their timer won't end. If you start another war your troops will still be on cool down.
      So another hint, if your troops say they are gathering for 9 months or something ridiculous like that, it's probably because of the cool down timer. You can create a new army from the gathering troops and put all of the ones that are ready in the new army. This will let you use the gathered ones immediately.

    • @phantomJK

    Small tip here:
    If you don´t want to assemble your whole army, while assembling you can just Ctrl + Right click to stop the assembling and move them as is. Your knights and man-at-arms will always spawn instantly when assembling the army, after that the levies of different locations will start arriving depending on distance.

      This is perfect! Thanks! This means I can save more money by not calling all my levies for a tiny County claim. Also, if i need to call the rest of the army, I won't have to worry about the muster time penalty for sending them home (had i mustered them all to begin with) and calling them back. That penalty is like 2-4 months added to the normal muster time.

      @@jxslayz6663 makes a huge difference for insta-popping single duchy claims as you can set your rally point right next, rally all of your men at arms, and hop onto them before they can run. One thing on upgrading men at arms regiments is I don't believe you can split a single regiment up, regardless of its size. So you might want 2 separate siege weapon groups if you're fielding multiple armies. But that is a pretty niche situation.

    • @alphaspartan
      @alphaspartan 3 года назад +5

      Excellent point, you're correct. Kind of annoying when you want to end a war fast by splitting your armies and sieging 2-3 holdings all at once. I find splitting army and rearranging to be a good way to optimize warfare when you're up against an inferior opponent.

    • @NefariousKoel
      @NefariousKoel 3 года назад +6

      Definitely began using multiple siege engine units once my army strength went over 10k. Think I have three separate siege units now that my armies are up to ~16k. Usually run 4 separate armies - one for maneuvering to support battles with the three seige armies going at once.

      @@alphaspartan I usually raise them all in one place and split them there. Although I occasionally set a second or third muster flag elsewhere if I can send them in to get started on a siege earlier. Although since those extra armies won't have my good regiments, and hardly any knights, I only do that when they're unlikely to be attacked by an enemy army when I declare war. Also, with such large army sizes, keeping Supply up on each one is a regularly consideration. Once supply gets low, they start taking penalties to combat.

    11:46 For Spymaster and Physician, hit the little magnifying glass icon at the center bottom of screen, and search for an unmarried female within your diplomatic range, in your greater religious group (christianity for example), in all realms, set to lowborn. Sort by Intrigue or learning, respectively. Find one that is wandering or a guest with nice high stats and right click on her, and marry her to one of your courtiers. May take a few repetitions until you find one that agrees, but you will guarantee yourself a loyal spymaster and physician with generally 20+ in their stat.
    I've been basically playing every game with a 25+ skill spymaster. I've regularly roped in 25+ skill physicians, and it makes a heck of a difference for wound recovery - with a good physician I actually try to fish for flagellant as a stressor, as it becomes just free stress relief with no cost as your physician instantly heals your wound.

    • @irtizafayaz
      @irtizafayaz 3 года назад +15

      Also, the abduct scheme is really powerful and kinda breaks the game with the following strat:
      1. Start the scheme against a ruler you want to go to war against.
      2. Wait till the time remaining for the scheme is one month.
      3. Declare war against the ruler.
      4. Avoid combat to cut losses. Hell, you don't even have to raise troops.
      5. Once the scheme fires, hope to hell that it succeeds.
      Capturing the ruler gives 100% warscore. You can enforce demands.
      6. Spam and cheese it to blob like crazy.
      I discovered this strat when a huge alliance of like 5 kingdoms declared a holy war for the only Duchy I had. My puny 2K army had no chance against their 13K troops, and I was playing as an intrigue character so I decided to wing it. I shit you not I was at negative 99% warscore when the scheme fired and it shot up to a positive 100% at the last moment. I might have screamed.
      PS. The only time it didn't work was when I declared war against Ivar the Boneless (~3000 troops) as an Irish count (~300). The scheme got stuck at "ready" but didn't fire at all for atleast months (I quit the game while it was still stuck).

    About the title laws: You can actually kinda circumvent title loses on successions by giving every title (at least of the duchy tier or above) the male preference title law. It takes every title into his own succession partition meaning that every title with a title law will always go to your oldest son. That way you can for example keep 3 king titles together without being an emperor.
    It has some prerequisites like High Crown Authority (which in turn requires the Royal Prerogative innovation) and lot of prestige, so it isn't completely trivial, but you only have to do it once per title. It obviously doesn't work for tribals though.

Right bellow your main heir portrait, if you have other heirs there will be a little arrow you can click to expand showing you all your heirs and the titles each will inherit. Much easier to look at than going character by character, or title by title, and mousing over to see the tooltip. Sort by skill, bring in a good doctor, more knights, a new spymaster, etc. Also, in a courtier has an inheritable trait, get them a spouse that will reinforce it to make sure there are kids with good traits kicking around your court,

    My favorite exploits/tricks:
    - *How to take over any empire in one go* : 1. Abduct the emperor, demand conversion and release 2. Arrange marriage with one of his unladed daughters or another woman with claim (might have to kill the previous spouse first) and wait until they have at least one child 3. Kill the emperor 4. Press claim for his daughter/claimant to make her empress 5. Kill her, someone from your dynasty should be emperor now 6. Use the claim title interaction and declare war
    [ If you are not strong enough to fight the war, use the abduct cheese to insta win ]
    [ This can also destroy the empire if you're too slow, since all his vassals will be mad. If you are strong enough, it is a good idea to help the emperor with all his internal wars, since you should have an alliance with him ]
    - *Get tons of piety with your heir immediatly* : Have/reform a religion with the ritual sacrifice tenet. If your current ruler is close to death wage a bunch of small wars or raid for captives to get 100+ prisoners, then once your heir takes over mass execute everyone for a massive piety boost (can get 5k+ piety in one go and get you to or close to religious icon immediatly)
    - *Get insane buffs to your character* : Have the Adorcism tenet to enable 'seek aid from the spirits'. Pause game and seek aid from the spirits as many times as you want (I'd recommend not more than 10). Unpause and reveive a bunch of buffs, like strong, shrewd and many other temporary 10y buffs. Caution: Not iron man safe, since it can also give you really bad traits or make you sick etc. etc. Your character should have a high fertility from beautiful/herculean etc. so that if you get the impotent trait, which is likely, you still can make children (impotent only gives -50% fertility, not completely removes the ability to make kids)
    - *Win any war* : Most people probably already know about this, but you can start an abduct scheme against a ruler, once it fires you declare war with the window still open. After war decalaration you continue with the abduction, once successfull the war will be over and you can enforce demands.
    - *Change your stats on the fly* : With most events already open, you can still modifiy your stats with the spouse council position to increase your success chances.
    - *Hold many duchies/duchy buildings* : Add the 'feudal elective' [ costs 1500 prestige, without modifiers] or another available elective law to each duchy you hold, it will grant a +10 opinion mod to all your vassals. This means you can hold up to 6 with no negative penalty and each additional duchy only gives -5 opinion instead of -15. If you're having trouble getting your prefered child to win, you can remove the law for free.
    [ You can get even more opinion if you also add this law to all your kingdom and empire titles, but be careful, since there are many more electors than for duchies and it can backfire if they don't like you or your heir. I've never had trouble with this, but it can be rough if you want to have a woman in a male dominated religion, for example. ]
    [ In most of your duchies, if you hold at least 2-3 counties you will always have the most voting power. Even if not, most vassals will vote for your candidate if they like you ]
    [ I usually only hold the duchy capital for the special building slot, all others I give to my vassals ]
    [ You might want to hold the de jure kingdom too, otherwise the king will always desire the duchy. With enough + opinion mods this is not a problem ]
    - *Get a strong army with close to no upkeep* : Building mods for your armies stack, if you build a lot of armories and forges for example, your heavy infantry and spearmen can do 5 times the damage. Combine this with the many duchies from above and your army will be unstoppable. Armory also gives -6% upkeep at level 1, stacked a couple times and in combination with the 'training' task from your marshal, your MaA will be almost free.
    I have more and also a bunch of succession cheese (not really cheese, but still useful), if people are interested I can post them later.

    Negotiate release is incredibly powerful right now (should probably be nerfed). For instance, when you defeat a peasant uprising, the peasant leader you capture almost always has great martial. Negotiate + recruit makes them YOUR great martial character. Enemy leader like, say, the Abbasid threatening your with religious wars? Abduct them and negotiate release with religious conversion. They will now rip their empire apart with religious wars (amazing vs. big blobs). If they refuse? Execute them and abduct the next ruler in line. You're not at war, so there's not much opportunity cost for trying, and capturing/release are both ridiculously easy to do.

    ...also needed to be mention the biggest and most important thing they've added to this game.
    You no longer need to be depressed to get rid of your ruler early. Depending on your traits chances are you can just spam the stressful thing of that respective trait (for example if you are just you can try murder people and cancel it before it happens, if you are greedy you gift all your cash to your heir) and build up stress which makes your ruler die
    Most of the times I don't want the game to turn my 25 intrigue 16 year old ruler into a full diplomacy character (because it really seems the focus the characters pick is random) so I just get rid of my ruler by stressing him out so I can play a character however I want.
    This is also much better than the suicide option since that one fucks up your dynasty's renown.

    Quill, not sure if you read these comments but after watching your fight with scotland on the last Livestream I think you're vastly underestimating how badly attrition hurt you, especially early. Each skull takes like 10% of your troops as you move through enemy territory and running out of supplies is the same effect each month. I think avoiding attrition is the reason the AI seems to use the oceans to move to adjacent unoccupied enemy territory. Blitzing their capital can certainly work but you took a lot of damage and because the enemy queen was actually leading her army you couldn't capture her by occupying her capital. Just some things I noticed that I hope will improve future war chances 🙂

      @@alphaspartan Imagine you are a count or a small duke and therefore have very little vassals. This means that your council doesnt need to be full of trash dukes who you are looking to appease if you were a king or an emeperor. This gives you the liberty to choose these positions based on stats and necesity. What you can do is filter for what things/stats you want and marry these (ideally lowborns with no titles or people with usefull pressed or unpressed claims) to one of your courtiers and now you have him and can use him as you see fit.
      One clear example is the physician, in the video he says we could train someone to become a good physician. Why tho? Search someone that has the highest or second highest trait of physician (you can search by traits) and good learning and try to get him into your court (by means of gift, opinion sway or marriage), now you have a very capable physician from the get go and dont need to worry to nurture one.
      In your case, as you are trying to reform Rome, the biggest use for you that isnt normal marriages is searching for claimants. Yes, there is a button, but that costs a lot of prestige (also random in who is the claimant that comes, could be useless), something that you might want to use for something else. So what you can do is just search for claimants relevant to your expansion and keep adding these people to your court and conquer stuff without the need to be always creating titles or having your bishop, priest, whatever waste all his time fabricating claims instead of giving you piety.
      In general you use the tool to search for prospects usefull to you and your long term plans.

    Another War/Prisoners tip: if you manage to imprison an important enemy, it'll boost your Overall War Score. So if you need money and quickly ask for a ransom, your war score will decrease upon the prisoner liberation. Might be wiser to consider keeping that boost to end the war quickly.
    For example, you can rush to the enemy capital and capture its king or queen, which sometimes gives you automatically a 100% score, so you can win very fast. Or send a diversion troop and another one to the enemy capital ;)

When Im trying to maintain my holdings, I want specific counties to go to specific kids (mainly trying to get my heir to have a specific title) but it seems like they only have the options to accept specific counties, and its never the ones I want to give them. What gives here?

    • @kevinbealer6320

      You can't give your heir titles he wouldn't inherit on your death. This is important, because if you die your heir automatically will inherit your primary title and all de jure titles under it. So if you give your heir all titles that are not de jure in your primary title, you could enforce primogeniture succession without actually having it.
      I haven't found a way to shift titles around between non-heir children, but if you give your non-heir children a title that would have gone to your heir, it might move one of your non-heir titles to your heir. I haven't tested this though, if you try it I am curious of the result.
      I have noticed that the title inheritance tries to keep the de jure hierarchy intact to the best of its ability. So your heir is inheriting a kingdom title you don't want, and your non-heir is inheriting a kingdom you do want, you can give the non-heir land that is de jure to the heir's kingdom and it should switch the kingdom titles between the two children. I have done this a few times. It works, but if you get more kingdoms later before you die this start to get super difficult to manage.

    The difference between leveling up men at arms and adding more is that you can't split them if you level up, so it can still be worth it to add more of the same if you're making, say, siege weapons to carpet siege with.

    • @justanothergirl__
      @justanothergirl__ 3 года назад

      Early game yes. Mid to late game, you can usually field large enough armies that sieges aren't spectacularly boosted by siege weapons. Once armies can get large enough, having another MAA that can actually fight other armies will probably benefit you more.

    • @yeetoburrito6445
      @yeetoburrito6445 3 года назад

      @@justanothergirl__ Yeah I'd agree. At the same time though if you have the money to upgrade your siege regiment to or past its cap then this kind of no longer matters, so you have to at least be somewhat early-game to even worry about this in the first place. Also, if you're fighting in the mid-game your armies are likely supported mostly by looting and ransoming prisoners at wartime, so often having multiple siege regiments can just help keep you afloat, amplified by the fact that they let you win quicker and therefore spend less, which can somewhat pay for other men-at-arms regiments (still doesn't apply late-game though).

      I think the "Splendor" mechanic makes that less viable now than in CK2. You want more children getting more stuff, so that you get more splendor for your dynasty. As long as you keep the land that you need for money and troops, inheritance is generally something that can be handled in better ways than killing everyone off.

    About the Men-at-Arms and sieging:
    If you want more horses, just increase their size, but if you want more siege engines to make sieges faster increasing the regimet size does nothing. Level 2 onager still has siege progress +0.3/day. I have not yet tested 2x lvl 1 onagers to get +0.6/day, so this was just a heads up!

      Razzku when selecting someone to marry, if an alliance is available, you will see a house crest with two blue flags on it. If your character marries a person with that crest showing, an alliance happens with their family automatically.
      Only you, your siblings, or your children will make an alliance through marriage, though. More distant family and your courtiers aren’t good enough to make an alliance.

      I had a similar situation, but I know how I got mine. I had a CB for a conquest of Sweden, so I used it. I got the kingdom title of Sweden and all of the random land the king of Sweden was conquering in western Europe.
      I don't know if there is a way to get a notification, but you should be able to figure out how you got the land by checking the current title holder. If it isn't someone in your dynasty, then you did not inherit it, you conquered it or a title above it. The other possibility is that someone in your realm inherited it or conquered it themselves. Check the father and mother of the current title holder to see if they had the title first, that's probably where it came from.
