Excellent, many things learned. One thing that is not at all clear for me, however, is what causes the transition from Early Battle Phase to Late Battle Phase.
Definitely a step up a step up from CK2 in terms of costum buildings armies (at least from the last version of CK2 I played. Was "Way of Life" or so). Thanks for the guide.
There are 2 important bugs in 1.0.3 that I wish you had covered. When you raise an army you can stop it from continuing to raise troops by clicking "Split off new Army" and moving all units to the right (you will have to select a new commander), this allows you to attack more quickly and overwhelm enemies before they can respond. Second, the penalty for disembarking magically disappears if you begin a siege with the army, allowing both you and the AI to avoid the penalty as long as there is a holding where they disembark.
I never understood the thing about resources in a county, now i know that there is a number showing how many troops can you place without losing resources. I normally split my soldiers in 1000 and siege multiple locations at once, using siege weapons on the ones that i want to capture first.
War! What is it good for? (What is it good for) It's good for You, (good for you) it's good for me. Oh war! What is it good for? It strenghtens the economy. It shows the world we've got stones. And archers with bows of bones
I had a weird and frustrating situation with war score the other day. I was playing as the duchess of Nordmark and attacked my neighboring count for his land. I managed to siege his castle and destroyed his army and in the end I got 98% of war score. But it never went to a 100% cause he didn't throw anything at me from that moment on. After more than a year, his land got claimed by a king and I lost any chances of conquering it for good. There should be a way to enforce the 100% when you utterly destroy your enemy but the war score is not reached fully.
@Gary Climo No there was only one county. And I took the only settlement in there and wiped their army and it gave me 98% altogether. Do you think it might be a bug?
Can you call multiple allies at once? With two wars and about 10 allies it is a very annoying task. Select Ally, select war, invite, wait, confirm *2*10 (>_
If you're not interested in role playing & just want to win wars, just have an army mostly comprised of siege weapons, use your female courtiers to recruit a knight with a siege warfare stat modifier & make him your commander, then when u enter a war hire mercenaries to protect the siege army. Especially early on in a 1066 start you'll take enemy castles three times faster than your enemies can, and sieges especially when u take valuable prisoners win wars like 95 percent of the time in this game. Just remember to run away if your enemy sends a huge army to dislodge one of your sieges, eventually they will give up and go back to trying to siege down your castles. Happy crusading!
Why can I sometimes declare a war to a count directly and sometimes i can only declare the war to the counts duke? Had the claims for the county in both cases.
thats a lot, but what a great guide. do u plan on more guides? i dont know if it would be up your ally, but quite interesting and awesome if you could do it - a guide to the princes of darkness mod.
great video:) i have a question about raiding, in a game I was playing as a norse character I wasn't able to sack constantinople, but I was able to sack other counties of the byzantine empire, anyone knows why?
Thanks a lot for that amazing guide ! One question : is the way you literally move your army around relevant to win battles ? Should that be the case, how could I do that efficiently ? I get that it's mostly about analyzing terrains and armies compositions, but it still feels like I'm missing something there... Or maybe I'm just being too influenced by other games like Age of Empires or Civilization :) Greetings from Belgium, keep up the good work !
Hi, does anyone know why this happens when raiding. I'm a vassel in the Mongolian empire. One of my neighbour vessels holding couldn't be raided. We both serve the empire so maybe that's why?
I joined an ally's defensive war, and during the war it said my contribution was 100 percent, but after my ally won the details said I get nothing because my contribution was not 100 percent. Is this a glitch? I'm on PS5
When I purchased Stellaris, this was the level of detail I was expecting. Even after all these years of DLCs, that game is still a pale imitation of Paradox's other grand strategy titles.
@@guddefulgaming But Stellaris didn't bill itself as a strategy game but a grand strategy by the maker of EU and Crusader King. You get a some generic buff edicts and some government types but by and large, there's barely any diplomacy and territorial gain and war are just so half baked. Internal government and policy is also a fraction of what's available in Paradox's other titles.
@@SQW0 Wat Are you playing the same game as me? :D Stellaris has the best economy gameplay since Vic 2, the customization is umatched, as is the roleplay potential, and they dealt with diplomacy in the last update. Yes internal gouverment is still without meaningfull conflict but eu4 the only game I know which nailed that one is CK3. Regarding policies it does a way better job then any other paradox game, where you choose between different policies with different advantages and disatvantages and adjust them, not just picking a clearly better one (like in Hoi4 or EU4). And the dlcs! They are nearly always meaningful for every emipre, not just a focus on india for 20€ which you only buy cause you want that development update. And all that with their first title? Without really knowing where this game will go? Don't know but I feel like Stellaris is one of the best GS Games made by PDX.
@@DasSmach What economic gameplay? You either min/max your planets to focus on one resource or use magic space science wonder to make more money than god. You do a lot of fiddling with district etc but it's all busy work in the end and hardly gives you any meaningful choices. Diplomacy wise, where do I start. Let's be honest, it's basically CIV level with a bit of give and take. When you are at peace, there's almost nothing you can do to interact with other empires other than once-off trade agreement. When at war, you are basically trying to fill in an arbitrary bar. When the war ends, you are forced to sit through 5 yrs of forced peace in which time there's absolutely nothing to do. It's like USA/USSR won WW2 and then the diplomats just said to Germany "okay, we'll take these provinces. See you in 1950".
@@SQW0 use an international market ti Export/import goods, creating a depandancy for maximum output or be completly on your own. Eu4 economy consits of: "need more gold? Build something" and a broken interface with sometimes wrong info making smart decision a chore and resulting in spamming buldings without thought And diplomacy wise: yeah nothing to do.. Exept migration treaties, trade agreements which vary how willing a nation is to trade in General(not just if they like you) non agrassion pacts, alliances, federation an a space un with council and regulations! Each nation with unique ideas and believes determening what they want and why, not just: "needed to fill rival slot so you're my enemy now" What else do you want? :D Yes war exhaustion is arbitrary and sucks, but to use your example, in this game you would use the liberation war and after us and ussr split germany they would literally creat two puppet states representing each ideology. I don't get what your point is
This is a very helpful video, but it didn’t answer the questions that have bothered me the most. Why do my levies cease increasing when far below their maximum capacity. I’ll be at 3000/5000 and have 0 additional levies per month. Also, why do my levies dramatically decrease upon succession, even when I haven’t lost lands and am only down a few domain holdings?
I think #1 is a bug. I've found if you raise them all and then disband that the levies will begin to increase again. As for levies decreasing on succession, it is probably a combination of your martial stat being lower on the new character (including wife/council) and opinions of your vassals being lower (which contributes to your lower levies).
Hello , please i'm kinda lost a bit i need help because it seems i can't group an army when there is a commander there is 0 soldiers how to add soldiers under the commander ? i really didn't know how please someone explain and help i would really appreciate it and thanks
I am very confused about occupied territories. I've declared a war on an entire kingdom, occupied all of the cities that were vacant, but another kingdom occupied one of their cities. I cannot siege it so I was just stuck. Then that kingdom started occupying my occupied cities, without declaring a war on me. How can I occupy a city that's already occupied?
If you have similar army numbers you can try to attack. Have you built men-at-arms? Sometimes you will just have to eat it though if you don't want your levy count to be wiped out.
Decimal actually I did. I got lucky my marshall just defended very well. But poor guy was maimed. That was my second run. I managed to claim some lands in 4th. Used archer in hills.
That's an interesting question! Hadn't thought to check that out to be honest. I wonder if title revocation on the person that owns it will do the trick...
I'm confused about claims completely. I was able to declare war with Desmond to get the whole Monster duchy. When I won, the only option was to release the enemy from prison and make him my vassal. I wanted the county for myself to hold or make somebody vassal. His eldest son has implicit claim. His older brother has pressed claim. So I wouldn't mind makine one of them the holder as my vassal. How to do it? How to hold it myself? Or make his son or brother holder? How do I set victory to that war without releasing the prisoner? How do I set the prison sentence for time that enemy stays punished? Thanks.
It is hard to know exactly what your options are without knowing who you were playing as - because different cultures / religions have different kinds of cassus belli (reasons to go to war). However, the way titles work in Crusader Kings is through something called "de jure". You can think of "de jure" as what is "legally" or "rightfully" someone elses claim. This is why your sons and daughters automatically get claims to your lands and titles (but only the ones you hold when they are born). Anyway, so in your case you declared war over the duchy of Desmond - your cassus belli determines who gets to keep the title. However, if you are above your domain limit (top right corner) you may have to give away responsibilities to your vassals. However the title you have taken still has inheritance tied to it - so if the current primary title holder is still alive (which it sounds like he is in your prison) - you will need to dispose of that person before you can give it to either his son or his brother. Your choice will depend on the inheritance law in your realm. I hope this helps. A final warning though - just outright executing him without reason will make your character a tyrant which can have consequences for your reign down the line - so if you have a more subtle way to do it - I'd suggest that. Also - if you fabricate a claim with your Bishop before you kill him you can just revoke his title (without repercussions, because on paper you now own it) and keep it for yourself.
@@GenomeSoldierDK No this is incorrect. What duchy of Desmond? The whole entire problem is that I am the majority controller of Monster. Desmond is the last county. So the point was about claims. Like if you're supposed to have claims over counties within a duchy you have majority control in. Yet the claim list for that county does not show me on there. Only the current holder's heirs. Despite being a county in my duchy. And despite me being able to declare war on it.
I misspoke. County of Desmond indeed. But no, I'm not incorrect. The Petty Kingdom of Munster was formed with a different holder in the county of Desmond. Which means that while the county de jure is part of your realm, it isn't de facto under your control. Hence your ability to claim it. You will not show up on inheritance untill then, because the title is inherited by the current holders children equally. Since you mentioned his brother had a pressed claim - his children will have claims too. And you have a claim, because it is a de jure part of Munster - which you must press in order to claim the title. Untill then it won't pass on to you, because you are not in the same house as the de facto holder.
@@GenomeSoldierDK No you are incorrect. I don't have any claim on it. Before or after winning. I cannot hold it or grant it to somebody with a claim. It only allows me to vassalize the current holder. Nothing more. Nothing less. None of the incorrect new information you gave doesn't change any of the incorrect previous information you gave. After winning the war, it still belongs to the current holder. Who can become my vassal. Nothing else. As seen: i.imgur.com/bsfRdFt.png
@@shatteredknight1129 I'm sorry mate - I'm not trying to be incorrect on purpose :P but I first need to know who you are playing as because otherwise I can't really answer your question. If you start as the Petty King of Munster you should immediately have a claim to Desmond (I know you should, because I just went into the game to check this myself). However if you are anyone else - then your claims to the title may vary depending on many factors. So please tell me who you are playing as to get started so we can avoid more misunderstandings :)
Hey there, I wanted to ask if you could help me out with a question regarding claim inheritance: So I try to rebuild the Persian Empire (in the fourth generation now) and I had the unfortunate situation that my firstborn son... and *his* firstborn son both died young so now my heir is my great-grandson. But as I only hold Kingdom titles so far (not enough land to declare myself Emperor) the Partition succession means my other two (younger) sons both inherit a Kingdom each. Now so far that is all okay because my player heir (great-grandson) should receive unpressed claims to those kingdoms so that I can quickly reconquer them. However I noticed when my old character died my *great--grandson did not inherit a single claim,* meaning it is incredibly difficult to reclaim the other two kingdoms for myself and would require like multiple wars each... So now I am really disappointed and almost lost my will to keep playing that campaign since all my previous progress is basically gone and I would need decades to get back where I was before. Is this a bug or did the player inheritance skipping two generations just mess up everything?
@@delfrazier7936 I am still not sure if this is a bug or intentional... however that is a really rare event (both your firstborn son AND his firstborn son dying before your player character dies) and *there are ways to get around it:* For example I just changed all my kingdom titles' succession laws to (feudal) elective and since everyone liked me and my family relations were decent everyone voted for my great-grandson and I just got him to inherit all my kingdom titles, thereby eliminating any partition issues! :D
I'll try and keep this as short as possible: I played 2 games as Harald Fairhair of Viken, and though I feel I have a fair grasp on things, both games served me some really mind boggling stuff that made me abandon the campaign. Game 1: I was chasing a chief who mysteriously kept eluding me so I could close a war. Long story short, I couldn't catch him so I went to the seat of his liege instead, since he was also involved. His capital was on the island of Gotland in the Baltic and there were 2 other neutral stacks there, but no enemy stacks. As soon as I landed, the two stacks who turned out to be Irish, both jumped me out of the blue. They had over 1k more, but due to my crazy berserker champions, I won in the end, though Harald was mortally wounded. Then the game told me that I was now instead at war with these Irishmen and no longer at war with the chief I had been chasing so long. I don't remember the wording. Harald died and I quit in bewilderment. Game 2: Early game I vassalized a neighbor using the one time subjugation casus belli, partly because I wanted his learning skill in my council. But the dude never showed up in my court list. I was de jure his liege lord, he was listed among my champions and he demanded a seat. But no matter how hard I tried, I could not figure out why I couldn't give it to him. There was no option in the menus and no explanation anywhere. The only theory that remained was the he was badly hurt, but he never got any better after several years and I had kinda gone all in on the move, so I abandoned the game in bewilderment. Any insight would be appreciated.
For game 1 there are a few things that could have happened - you might have turned into another character after Harald died and inherited their wars, or you could have won your war and inherited the war for that was already raging for that county. For game 2 that just seems like a bug - I haven't seen that issue yet.
@@romo141 Agreed on nr 2, that one seems really iffy because the dude was doing all kinds of things like hosting a feast for me etc. So it's not like he was too wounded to function, he just specifically didn't show up in my court list. For nr 1: Harald died later. The war shift thing happened immediately after I won the battle, and besides why would two neutral armies jump me anyway? And why were they milling around on that island? I know the liege was active in Ireland, so that fits with the fact that they were Irish, but beyond that I have no clue what happened, which kinda sucks since it basically ended my game. I don't mind the campaign so much, but I do mind not understanding why. Thanks for responding.
Short update. Game 3: I can't have any babies. Been 6 years now with a wife and 4 concubines and not so much as a miscarriage. I can't play tribal pagan without being able to make alliances. I'd really like to play the game, but the game kinda don't want to let me :/
2) From the wiki: "The Court Chaplain (learning councillor) can only be changed if the Liege's Faith has the Revocable Clerical Appointment doctrine." My guess is that your faith didn't have that doctrine.
Lost a title on succession. So as the new character, i went to war against my brother and I won the war (no question, his army was inferior). The outcome was inconclusive and now I can’t remember what I did wrong or how that happened cause this game is HELLA CONFUSING!! So annoying cause it’s the last title i need to create the King title and now I don’t even have a claim so I’ll have to fabricate to get it which is fine it will just take longer. But someone pls help me understand how I messed up so bad 😂
When you declared the war, I assume you had the right title selected for casus belli? Dumb question I know but it's a mistake I've made before during a stream lmao. Hop into the discord there's a bunch of us that can try and help you figure it out! That's a weird one...
Yo i dont get it, so its 1066 and i got kingdom of england as irish default dude right, figured out i cant get claims on other kingdoms via my religion dude right, so i killed my wife so i could marry this chick with both norway kingdom and denmark kingdom claims, they are both at war so i couldnt even click on anything after clicking declare war, so i just speedrun it to check it and after denmark dude finishes the war i could only fight him for a tiny county, not for a kingdom claim, why is that? also i have a chick with 5 claims, married her to my half brother, but if i win the war the game says me she gets only 3 out of 5 titles, why is that also? and what do i do to gain more kingdoms after i get one besides doing it via bishop's claims?
Maybe Im justs stupid and I cant read but the tutorial told me to invade a neighboring realm with only 2 men-at-arms and no siege equipment and I got stuck trying to take one holding for years. I also was unaware of what commanders were so my king was the one leading the charge and he was killed and his idiot son who everyone hated took over. Good time
Lol just qouncure county, and when you faime lvl up qouncure ducky. And you dont need any claims. And if you captioned any prisoners with title and claims, make shore kill them.

You can also cntrl-click move and it will stop gathering and just move. I used to do it the way you described, but this way is much quicker!

I have a question , maybe something to put in a guide.
Info and insight into spreading your or desired culture / religion?
Thanks PE

I never understood the thing about resources in a county, now i know that there is a number showing how many troops can you place without losing resources.
I normally split my soldiers in 1000 and siege multiple locations at once, using siege weapons on the ones that i want to capture first.
thank you for this beginner series! subbed
fantastic video
Whitout war there would be no war. What a crazy thought.
Great thanks for that video!
a very good opening!
another great vid, thank you!
War!
What is it good for? (What is it good for)
It's good for You, (good for you) it's good for me.
Oh war!
What is it good for?
It strenghtens the economy.
It shows the world we've got stones.
And archers with bows of bones
Do specific units contribute more to the early phase or late phase?
Do I understand this correctly? If you win a war, you have to siege the castle in order to get the land?
Why can I sometimes declare a war to a count directly and sometimes i can only declare the war to the counts duke?
Had the claims for the county in both cases.
thats a lot, but what a great guide. do u plan on more guides?
i dont know if it would be up your ally, but quite interesting and awesome if you could do it - a guide to the princes of darkness mod.
Raiding will make alot of enemies. Will the raided kingdoms take revenge?
How do you increase men-at-arms limit and which county can be sieged?
Should of started video with: Edwin Starr - War.
great video:) i have a question about raiding, in a game I was playing as a norse character I wasn't able to sack constantinople, but I was able to sack other counties of the byzantine empire, anyone knows why?
I found combat, conquering etc very difficult to get to grips with in Crusader Kings compared to Civilisation games.
Thanks a lot for that amazing guide !
One question : is the way you literally move your army around relevant to win battles ? Should that be the case, how could I do that efficiently ? I get that it's mostly about analyzing terrains and armies compositions, but it still feels like I'm missing something there...
Or maybe I'm just being too influenced by other games like Age of Empires or Civilization :)
Greetings from Belgium, keep up the good work !
I think it is only relevant, if there is a river, or things like that
Hi, does anyone know why this happens when raiding.
I'm a vassel in the Mongolian empire. One of my neighbour vessels holding couldn't be raided. We both serve the empire so maybe that's why?
I tried occupying territory, but my CK3 always ends the war automatically after a while when I reach 100%. What is going on?
Does a Duchy title have to exist in order for your Priest to be able to fabricate a claim on it?
I joined an ally's defensive war, and during the war it said my contribution was 100 percent, but after my ally won the details said I get nothing because my contribution was not 100 percent. Is this a glitch? I'm on PS5
When I purchased Stellaris, this was the level of detail I was expecting. Even after all these years of DLCs, that game is still a pale imitation of Paradox's other grand strategy titles.
It's still a good and pretty complex game. Especially if you compare it to the strategy genre as a whole.
@@SQW0 Wat
Are you playing the same game as me?
With mutliple variations which change everything frm slaves, hiveminds, robots or entire station based civs, which all need more or less of different resources. Eu4 economy consits of: "need more gold? Build something" and a broken interface with sometimes wrong info making smart decision a chore and resulting in spamming buldings without thought
And diplomacy wise: yeah nothing to do.. Exept migration treaties, trade agreements which vary how willing a nation is to trade in General(not just if they like you) non agrassion pacts, alliances, federation an a space un with council and regulations! Each nation with unique ideas and believes determening what they want and why, not just: "needed to fill rival slot so you're my enemy now"
What else do you want? :D
Yes war exhaustion is arbitrary and sucks, but to use your example, in this game you would use the liberation war and after us and ussr split germany they would literally creat two puppet states representing each ideology.
I don't get what your point is
is it worth it to take warmonger tenet if im am temporal head of my reformed pagan?
cant i do ghw only as temporal?

Hi Party, I have been looking everywhere but I can't find it! Where can I find your stream schedule? :)
I've been meaning to put that up but wrenches keep getting thrown in! Monday is the next stream though - 10am ET (UTC-4)
You should still be able to put it under siege as well. If not, I've either misunderstood, of that's a bug!
Can someone tell me how to defend raids early on? Should I face the raid army? Or should I wait in my poor fort which has no defensive structures?
If you have similar army numbers you can try to attack. Have you built men-at-arms?
Sometimes you will just have to eat it though if you don't want your levy count to be wiped out.
Decimal actually I did. I got lucky my marshall just defended very well. But poor guy was maimed. That was my second run. I managed to claim some lands in 4th. Used archer in hills.
I just realised is 2 years old video. Because you can take land easily without claim
What if I have an unpressed claim on a land that I already own ? How can I turn it into a pressed claim ?
Oh god the opening dad joke.
Great guides. Although you may wanna check the correct pronunciation of the words “temporal” and “absolute” to avoid any further cringe.
old video but still dont know.... how to get berserker trait? i play as prussia but want better warriors without subjugating norse lol
Hey there, I wanted to ask if you could help me out with a question regarding claim inheritance:
So I try to rebuild the Persian Empire (in the fourth generation now) and I had the unfortunate situation that my firstborn son... and *his* firstborn son both died young so now my heir is my great-grandson.
Those are big issues for a video game. Hope the claims get figured out..
@@delfrazier7936 I am still not sure if this is a bug or intentional... however that is a really rare event (both your firstborn son AND his firstborn son dying before your player character dies) and *there are ways to get around it:*
For example I just changed all my kingdom titles' succession laws to (feudal) elective and since everyone liked me and my family relations were decent everyone voted for my great-grandson and I just got him to inherit all my kingdom titles, thereby eliminating any partition issues! :D
@@lordhelmchen3154 else kill or disinherit the other person's
I'm a petty king and have a claim on a county inside my kingdom, how do I get that county? I don't have an option to declare war on that county.
Revoke the county from the current owner. Right click on his/her portrait to find the action
Yeah I think you can't declare war on your own subjects as you by definition should protect them.
To revoke you will need to raise your crown authority as well - raising crown authority costs more and more prestige as your holdings grow.
PartyElite a suggestion... it might be cool to end your videos with cheers in a different language each time. Salud, Prohst, Slawn-cha, etc.
How do you get army composition to elite?
It basically has to be all knights and men at arms for that - levies tank the quality hard.
Siege is not a verb. The word you want is besiege.
Thank you for the content. You are super helpful. And as always, north korea is best korea.
@@RandomEntity999 That's not it. I've changed Godir willy nilly before and after. They can even be women.
Me watching a guide fir a game I have tens of hours in just in case I've been playing it wrong this whole time
To be fair, Paradox games are the kinds you could play for a thousand hours and still learn something new somewhere.
Ah, War. The cause of and the solution to all of life's problems.
Uh Ah! - Elvis
Can you (and how do you) increase a men-at-arms size cap? I cant find what determines this number.
Do you mean the regiment size cap or the total # of regiments?
I specified size cap pretty clearly, but I figured it out. No worries.
Good time
Good god ya'll
I can actually understand better if I put him on 0.25 speed
Lol just qouncure county, and when you faime lvl up qouncure ducky. And you dont need any claims. And if you captioned any prisoners with title and claims, make shore kill them.
I hate that battles take months and no one modded it yet... it take hours ffs it's not a siege T_T
