A couple of quick tips for most Lexus/Toyotas 1. If your oil filter has a cap for the small o-ring DO NOT REMOVE IT. The cap is there as Toyotas way to make oil changes "clean." The problem is that you run the risk of the o-ring getting pinched and potentially it breaking. Its easier to loosen the filter by a few threads until there is a steady flow of oil. 2. When you put on the new o-ring(big one) it's good to put a little bit of oil around it so that it reduces the risk of it breaking when putting the filter back on. This especially important with models with metal oil filter housings as they are the most at risk. 3. To save yourself some headache at the next oil change put some oil on the drain plug gasket so they don't stick to the oil pan/drain plug. Also since its mentioned in the video a good rule of thumb if you're using Toyota drain plug gaskets stop tightening the drain plug when the gasket starts mushrooming. 4. All Lexus/Toyota/Scion maintenance reset lights are either; key on/engine off holding odometer or; key on/engine off holding trip A. Most modern models use the dash menu so they should be obvious. ***the ONLY model that doesn't always follow this rule is the Prius lineup. They are different each generation.*** Hope this helps makes everyone's oil changes easier.

Could you make a video about the repair for VSC ? Like how to replace the sensor .I think this is a common problem for the IS and I haven’t seen any videos on how to replace that
Doc vsc always that problem come with abs problem, so you should have a abs issue, you better go to a dealer so they can diagnostic what’s happening, if you don’t want to just look at YT how to reset your board lights like the abs, vsc, control traction and other stuff just using a single “CLIP”
I had that VSC light on for years and tried everything I could to fix it with no success. One day I decided "what the heck", just brought into Lexus service of Westminster. They charge me about $225 for diagnosis and "repair". (Quoted for $4xx.xx). Story short, I received a check for the full amount of the repair from that dealer saying the repair was covered by Lexus. My is350 is a 2007, repair was made in Jan/2020.
I'm dealing with this now, 06 is350 with 80k.. code said it was solenoid.. I had the CEL for 3-4 months now, transmission progressively showed symptoms of bad shifting then a couple days ago, waaay worse. Struggles going into gear from as stop and struggles getting out of 1-2nd. If I'm on a down hill it shifts easy and I can cruise in manual mode from there. But I don't want to drive anymore to prevent more damage. What do y'all recommend?? Tow to dealership/trans shop or attempt to change solenoids?

Your valve stem seals are worn. lt's a common issue with high mileage engines and can only be rectified by replacing the seals. That requires head removal and normally a valve job while the heads are already off.

That one goes in to the "cap" area I believe, but I've never found instructions on how to replace it and it isn't needed as far as I know. It may be for other applications with similar filters.
That's for vehicles with a drainplug on the oil filter cap assembly. Evidently not all vehicles have one but only those where the oil filter cap assembly is mounted vertically instead of horizontally.
Originally in 2006, yeah. Lexus then put out a TSB for conventional later. If your car has always run on conventional, it’s fine. But for better lubrications and performance, synthetic is recommended
2 issues..... 1. You used Penzoil (Parifin wax bases oil) 2. Never assume that the full 6.7 qrts will go in. I always put 6 and then top off by checking the dipstick. If you over fill....you risk causing too much oil pressure and blow out your oil seals. Thats probably the cause why your car burns oil, Your seals are probably blown letting oil pass it.
Hmm. Never had any issues with Pennzoil and always did it that way and checked the dipstick. Car burned oil the day I got it. Just the nature of a high mileage Toyota

Marty Motoring they want to sell it for 9250??? I feel like this would be good.. what are some common things to look and check out for once before I make the purchase? Love your videos btw!!
I’m not too sure. I’d say the 350 would probably be a better match since the horsepower is closer (306 vs 305). It also depends on gearing and weight. 🤷♂️
There are two sized Toyota/Lexus oil filter cap wrenches. One is for the 1.8 liter engine and the other fits all other Toyota/Lexus engines like this one. If buying the Motivx brand tool then you want part #2320.
So buy Super Tech full synthetic oil and a OEM Toyota filter or K&N or even a Super Tech filter if you feel okay with that. Shouldn't cost more than $25 to $35.
Hey Marty, I didn't know Penzoil was better than Mobil1. I'll be using that from now on. Aside from that, I wanted to ask you if you've used any aftermarket parts on your IS350? I need to replace my catalytic converter. I've spoken to a mechanic and he told me that I have use an OEM part because aftermarket parts usually don't fit right. Problem is the OEM part is about $1600 and aftermarket is $400. I'd like to get your opinion on this since you've probably talked to more IS owners than I have. Like always, good job on the video!
@@mrblackops789 Any problem with a check engine light after putting on the aftermarket cat? I did that with a BMW and the oxygen sensor was sending the wrong signal to the onboard computer causing the check engine to light up every 25 miles after a reset
Follow this video if you want an oil leak. Left out where the other o-ring goes, and how to change it. First step isn't to remove the entire oil filter housing, it's to remove the drain plug from the housing (you ever wonder why the oil filter housing isn't closed off and has that weird square hole?)
just a thought but i think next time you change your oil, the car should be flat. jack up the back and put it on some jack stands so you drain out all of that nasty old oil!
It doesn't need to be absolutely flat for changing engine oil. More important for transmission fluid. As long as you're draining a sufficient amount and refilling to or close to capacity &/or checking it when you're done on flat ground then you're fine. The drain and fill isn't going to change from one drain and fill to the next... Think about it.
Your oil filter cap wrench does not appear to fit correctly. It looks like you got the one made for the 1.8 liter engine. What size is the engine in that car? Ah. 3.5 liter V6. And the teeth on your wrench don't reach down far enough to engage.
@@MartyMotoring I can see that it works but it's only engaging in the flutes part of the oil filter cap like any other wrench made for the 1.8 engine will. And yes it will still work as long as you keep changing your own oil and don't over torque it. If the notches engage onto your oil filter cap like the ones in this video then you're good to go. If not, then what I'm saying is likely correct. m.ruclips.net/video/epkz675Mj5s/видео.html Just trying to help...😉
Might be too much but I like to level out the car to drain out as much oil and add some clean oil while it’s still draining to “wash” more out. Let me know if I should stop lol
Yeah, not all lexus and toyota have that seal, if your oil filter cap has a drain plug then you have use it. I have a Toyota Crown Athlete, it doesn't have either.
@@MartyMotoring You can switch from one type of oil to another at any point time in without any damages, whatsoever, to your engine. Hearing you say "don't switch between oil types" is like hearing someone say "You shouldn't change your transmission fluid, especially if your vehicle is old and you've never done it before"
@@heavyhitter886 it’s a known fact that you shouldn’t be tossing conventional and full synthetic in there back to back with different weights. You want to keep the same oil weight and type. Once you go synthetic, running conventional can causes issues on an engine that burns oil. Can you do it? Yes. Should you? Probably not... Also, that’s not a great analogy since I drained and filled my trans fluid at 169,000 miles with good results... Both are possible but only one is a good idea.
@@MartyMotoring You clearly didn't get my analogy reagrding ATF. You should go back and read it again. Anyway, in regards to the oil weight, I never said it's okay to switch oil weights. You should always go with whatever the manufacturer calls for. It's that simple. Now, as far as switching from synthetic to conventional, you're flat out wrong. You can switch back and forth between the two without any issues, at all. In fact, you can even mix the two. What do you think synthetic blend is? I don't know where you're getting your "known facts" from, but you should definitely find another source man...

@@MartyMotoring what I was thinking too but since the 250 is probably going to be lighter than the challenger I assume? And awd kicking in vs rwd?
"There are 2 Rubber Gaskets that come with the filter...." AND you only show one 🤣 Gotta love newb videos 🤙
What size is the filter wrench??
There are two sized Toyota/Lexus oil filter cap wrenches. One is for the 1.8 liter engine and the other fits all other Toyota/Lexus engines like this one. If buying the Motivx brand tool then you want part #2320.
My lexus has only 30k miles. Would It be okay or beneficial to change to full synthetic ?
Yeah just dont use the high mileage Full synthetic. Just use the normal full synthetic. Thats what I do with my 80k miles Lexus IS350.
Yes what Adam said! If it’s newer it probably calls for it anyway
Is that a carbon fiber hood?
Yup, Seibon
hey matt i use amsoil the 25k miles type.. what do you think?
Amsoil is the best. I haven’t stepped up yet
Wish mine took the cheaper oil, but 0w20 for 2012, woul be 60$ for the oil and still need a filter, and Toyota is only 66$ for an oil change.
What kinda oil and filter are they putting in the car?
So buy Super Tech full synthetic oil and a OEM Toyota filter or K&N or even a Super Tech filter if you feel okay with that. Shouldn't cost more than $25 to $35.
Hey bro off topic but is it okay to remove that webbing inside the airbox over the air filter? I own a 07 3 Fitty aswell 🤓
Yeah it’s no problem! I’ve done it
@@MartyMotoring So theoretically that should give even more airflow and more horsepower right? I've already got a K&N in there anyway though 🤣
I changed my cat. A brand called pacesetter. Cost me around 600 including labor. Ordered the cat on my own
@@mrblackops789 wish I still had the car.
@@mrblackops789 Any problem with a check engine light after putting on the aftermarket cat? I did that with a BMW and the oxygen sensor was sending the wrong signal to the onboard computer causing the check engine to light up every 25 miles after a reset
You completely skipped the 2nd O ring location
great video
It’s Schnizentight
😂
Maybe it doesn't look right on video, but it definitely works on my IS 350 and 2014 4Runner for all the times I did oil changes
@@MartyMotoring
I can see that it works but it's only engaging in the flutes part of the oil filter cap like any other wrench made for the 1.8 engine will. And yes it will still work as long as you keep changing your own oil and don't over torque it.
If the notches engage onto your oil filter cap like the ones in this video then you're good to go. If not, then what I'm saying is likely correct.

Just trying to help...😉
The tragedy of life , life has been unkind to me that i can't buy the car .
If you go from Mobil 1 to Pennzoil your engine will blow up lol
Lol steve lol
Lol my engine should have blown like 15,000 miles ago then 🤣
@@MartyMotoring Oh it did just hasn't told you yet
@@HammerdownMotorsportsUSA Lexus reliability LOL
Are you saying Mobil 1 is better ?
Might be too much but I like to level out the car to drain out as much oil and add some clean oil while it’s still draining to “wash” more out. Let me know if I should stop lol
That’s just a waste of good oil and does little to nothing in terms of cleaning.
@@ruskibruski having less used oil in the engine has to be doing something
“It comes with 2 gaskets” proceeds to only use one and absolutely no explanation on why the other one wasn’t used. So annoying.
2nd one isn’t worth the hassle. Also this video is really old lol
Marty left the small seal down on the floor, so he didn't replace it...
Yeah I’ve never used it on any Toyota or Lexus
Yeah, not all lexus and toyota have that seal, if your oil filter cap has a drain plug then you have use it. I have a Toyota Crown Athlete, it doesn't have either.
2:00 and that's where I clicked off.... 🤦🏾♂️
Well the process starts at 2:32 so if you couldn’t fast forward through the disclaimer and oil information I can’t help you lol
