This may very well be my absolute favorite video ever on RUclips! I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, and the thing I love the most is that I have most of the Marvel Books, that you have showcased (don’t do DC 🤷🏻♂️) but I truly appreciate these videos and thank you so much. It has been a great 2022 watching these.!!🎉 PS love the part about the first Gambit! I concur I have both but 266 is where it’s at!😊
Iron Man #282 is not the first appearance of War Machine. That would be West Coast Avengers #94. IM#282 is the first appearance of the War Machine armor. Not the codename used by Rhodey.
I forgot to add… I am so glad you don’t put background music in your videos when you show your books. I find that if the presenter in the video is entertaining, you don’t need that distraction.
Speaking of "THE CHASE"..lolz. Great books. I love those Mignola Batman death of covesr. just classic. I have a buttload of those books. Great idea, awesome books, thanks for sharing. Did you leave any bronze keys for another video?
Merry Christmas, love these foundational books. I have majority of these books, and I would appreciate if you continue putting out videos on foundational books. Thanks
Had maybe two thirds of them, mostly Marvel. Only have a couple of the DC books you showed. Beautiful copies of so many great books. Thanks for sharing!
Great Video Alex! You have a plethora of solid foundational books. One disclaimer: the Copper Age started in 1985 (with the Crisis on Infinite Earths) and ended at the end 1991 (when Todd McFarlane, Jim Lee and the group started Image Comics, thus shepherding in the Modern Age in 1992). Merry Christmas! 🙏🎄
Thanx 4 these great foundational videos!! Really make us all feel good about our collections by having a majority of these!! Even better when you have these in triplicate!! That let's you sell one or two along the way before you sell the collection!!!
Alex, I always look forward to your content! Excellent books as usual and I absolutely love your foundational comics concept and videos. You are still my favorite comic book RUclipsr, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!
This was a fantastic video. When you said "Collect the way you want to collect" it really hit me. That's something a lot of people new and old to the hobby need to hear. Thanks for the great video!
This has been an amazing series! Thank you so much for letting us in on your adventure. “Foundational” has definitely been added to my lexicon…and I appreciate you for it. Have a blessed Christmas & New Year and I look forward to more fantastic content in 2023!
thanks for the video! very good and a lot of info in short period of time. i have a significant number of these books graded by CGC from my collection and now my grandson will have a foundational collection!
Awesome video Alex. You’ve inspired me to create a Foundational PC keeping them raw. I think I’ll do 2 books per month and see where I’ll end in December 2023 👍🏾
Not bad. I have 28 of them, and I don't really buy DC stuff. I did have 3 of the DC issues though. I'm an X-Men guy. I have complete first volumes of Excalibur, New Mutants, X-Factor, X-Force, and X-Men, plus all Uncanny X-Men starting with 143 (as well as 15-20 issues before that). I am now at the point where I'm trying to work backward from 143. In fact, I just picked up 136 and 137 over the weekend, and 126 yesterday.
Great video, this series really gave me a good starting point on what to collect for a good PC collection. I’ve also started going after early kid’s properties. Eg. GI joe, Transformers, and TMNT. Those books are staples in my mind and should not be overlooked. I’ve also been doubling up on a lot of those keys when ever i see them. Wolverine 1 1988 i have 15 raw copies so far. I just always grab it when i see it. Thanks again, have a great new year.
I was watching for the books, then you dropped the BRCC reference. I'll have to find you down there in April (assuming it's the same BRCC I pop into!).
Great video as always! I'm all over the X-Men portion of this video. Outside of that resembles my wishlist for 2023, especially that DC Comics Presents!
Thanks for the recap video! I have all but 3 or 4 of the Marvel books shown. I’ve recently decided to dip my toes in DC water and hunting the foundational DC books you list. I have a few so far, and more to go. Indies will be after DC. Have you considered adding any TMNT to the list or are they too pricey?
Merry Christmas keep the foundational video going I have 32 on your list couple had of years of collecting and some I grab because of your videos thanks for sharing
I got pulled in because of the Death of Superman as well. Who would have thought the death of a superhero could bring so much joy!!! LOL!!! Fantastic video Alex. I enjoyed it from start to finish. I even wrote down a couple of the books for my own foundation collection!!!
Yep, awesome buys, had a large % of these (no newer books) but the $$$ books (SA IronMan, NM98 etc & early TMNTs) had to sell in 2020/21 to survive that damm C19 bs. Still, have about 20 long boxes left with about 4-6krawbooks with some of what you picked up still in my PC along with my 230+/- issues of IronManv1. Wish that I would not have stopped collecting comics when I did cuz I stopped when McFarlane started ASM though I did picked up some later but never got those 298-300 (remember seeing about 10 #300 stuffed in the mall rack; didnt get cuz they all had the single spine fold [i was very picky back then] - even those would have been money today :)) cuz they were $$ even back then. Oh well :)
I am enjoying the Foundational videos. It’s nice to see the books that I have pop up on the video. (But then a little bummed when I saw the two Spawn books that I traded in a few weeks ago. Guess I’ll have to pick them up at a different shop later 😂.) Belated Merry Christmas!
I’m confused. You got all these comics for $1000? If so, that is pretty good. You even got some 70s book too. But I do wonder if Booster Gold or War Machine are really “key” or “foundational” characters to get their first appearances. What happened to X-Men vol 2 number 1? Or Crisis on Infinite Earths or Secret War or first few appearances of black costume Spider-Man? Those seem more key/foundational issues of that era. Sorry if you mentioned them in other videos; first time seeing your channel. Good to see these comic covers… brings back memories. Got most of the comics from mid 80s to mid 90s and none of the 70s or early 80s comics -poor condition and not worth the prices.
Alex- would you consider foundational story arcs as viable? Seeing Dazzler 130 made me think "wouldn't having 129-137 make sense?" That would look just as great in any collection...thoughts?
Great collection, awesome books👍 I hav about half of them. Just fyi, I'm team ASM 299 bcuz that also was the "intended" first app., so says Todd McFarlane. Either way they're Awesome books, Congrats
I have the Gold version of that. I actually have the one I had when it first came out back in the 80s. My mom bought it for me in a box of comics. You think that one would be worth a little more.
Hi there love this collection. I have only just started collecting comics. And collecting from the same time period. Could you please tell me what you have your comics kept in. I'm trying to find something to buy to keep them in like yours.
Really enjoyed this, Alex! Love the knowledge you drop in this video. How much would you say your collection has grown in the four years since I moved away?
How do you usually find people to buy their collections? I'm thinking of buying one at some point but don't know the price range most people pay for them.
Great stuff as usual bro! Let’s see which ones I have: Venom #1, Spawn #1 & 9, Spider-Man 2099 #1, X-men 282 (1st and 2nd print, X-men 283, New Mutants 87 2nd print and Deadpool #1. I don’t have Avengers Annual #10, but I do have the first chronological appearance of Rogue in Marvel Super-Heroes #11. There are lots more to get, but I’m happy with my progress thus far! 👍🏾😀
I've recently started a collection from scratch again after my entire collection was stolen during a breaking an entering and I'm liking these foundational books that are more affordable to get it going. Xmen minor keys are where I started and moved on from that into other titles mostly marvel. Just my preference. I've looked for each book you showed before which I was happy to see so I'm thinking along the same lines. Great content keep it up
Does anyone know what kind of holder's he has these comics in? Also, is the comic in a board and bag inside the holder or is it just a board and the comic?
I have each of these comics in a Mylar current size bag and board. Probably 2-3 boards per comic as well. Current size Mylar is the only size that will fit into these Ultra pro top loaders. You can use a silver age poly bag and board to fit into these, but Mylar standard and larger will not fit. I love the way the Mylar presents in the top loaders. It offers incredible protection and presentation.

That’s the way to do it my friend!

Speaking of "THE CHASE"..lolz. Great books. I love those Mignola Batman death of covesr. just classic. I have a buttload of those books. Great idea, awesome books, thanks for sharing. Did you leave any bronze keys for another video?
I have other Bronze Age keys, but I think I am going to expand this foundational books to bronze and early modern (more officially).
Merry Christmas, love these foundational books. I have majority of these books, and I would appreciate if you continue putting out videos on foundational books. Thanks

Alex- would you consider foundational story arcs as viable? Seeing Dazzler 130 made me think "wouldn't having 129-137 make sense?" That would look just as great in any collection...thoughts?
I00%. I think you are right on here. Some full storylines are key to comic book history and so relevant. Those can definitely be foundational!
I have amazing spiderman 238 with lakeside tattoos. It looks like a 9 plus grade. Will get it signed by John romita Jr. in may.
"Intended" first appearance? That's a new phrase. :)
Hey! Doesn’t it make sense though? 265 literally says in 266 there is a new mutant named gambit.
I think that is valid. Thanks for stopping by!
