      The model number of the product in this video is Pioneer GM-D8704. Please be sure of the model number of your particular amplifier. The model number should be shown on the box, and on the top of the amp, and on the bottom of the amplifier on a label. The model number of the product in this video is GM-D8704. The product featured in this video is the North American version of the product. Pioneer GM-D8704 produced for North America has a bass boost remote control in the box, and a port for the bass boost remote control on the side of the amp. A similar previous model of amplifier was Pioneer GM-D8604. You can see it here: ruclips.net/video/aqmu9yZov1M/видео.html The GM-D8604 did not have the wired bass boost remote control, and had no port of the side of the amplifier for the bass boost remote. So my question would be, is there a noticeable sound quality difference between the GM-DX874 and this, GM-D8704? If so, why would Pioneer make seemingly the same amp (other than a few internals) for a LIMITED time, and not continue making the better of the two? I'm so confused right now...lol please enlighten me.

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 4 года назад +3

      I agree. You are confused. Pioneer does not say the GM-DX874 is available for a LIMITED time. In your confused state, you added the word time to the word limited. Pioneer offers many products that build upon a great design and offer expanded capabilities or performance. These products are labeled as LIMITED (with no mention of time) and are offered at selected retailers in the US.
      The Pioneer GM-D8704 is a great amp. Compact, clean and powerful. The Pioneer GM-DX874 is a far superior amplifier. The Pioneer GM-DX874 uses Pioneer designed and manufactured high quality acoustic elements within the audio signal chain of the amplifier. For example: Pioneer brand Audio Capacitors for higher audio quality and additional stability in the power supply. The use of these Pioneer brand audio components delivers more stable power, greater headroom with better transient response and reliability. The two amplifiers are built around the same board layout. This is true, and it's simply a reality of manufacturing efficiency. The difference in the high quality audio grade components used is what makes a great amplifier into something special. Details like these aren’t shown in a simple spec chart. For example: how hard can the amp hit a single note? And, how fast can it recover, to hit a 2nd note just as hard? This is where high end audio grade components make the GM-DX874 shine.
      If you want a visual difference in the amplifiers to help with your confusion, the top panel is milled from aluminum for excellent heat dispersion, lower magnetic properties, and show grade cosmetics. That and the gold plated RCA's for a more reliable connection over time. Gold doesn't oxidize like other metals. GM-D8704 is an excellent amplifier but does not have these higher end features.
      By the way, it's only a matter of time until any product is discontinued and replaced by a new product with a new design.

    Can this amp handle 4 Mids & a dual coil Subwoofer & TS-20 ??

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 3 года назад

      Yes, it can handle them with proper wiring. However, I think you'll be much better off with a Pioneer GM-D9705 amplifier. You can learn more about Pioneer GM-D9705 here: ruclips.net/video/99Hfmc8QxVc/видео.html If you want to use the Pioneer GM-D8704, you can and it will work and be very reliable. The GM-D8704 can handle 1 ohm operation all day long. You can run the mids and tweeters from the "A" channel, and the subwoofer from the "B" channel. No problem. The concern is that you'll need separate hardware crossovers for the mids and separate hardware crossovers for the tweeters because they will need to be on the same channel If you try to mix the mids and woofer on the same channel, you'll still need separate crossovers. . This can be done, without any question. However, it's not easily adjustable from that point. I recommend to use the Pioneer GM-D9705. It's an excellent and reliable 5 channel amplifier. This way you can run the tweeters on the "A" channel. All of the mids on the "B" channel at 2 ohms. And the subwoofer wired at 2 ohms on the subwoofer channel. All will be easily adjustable. Hi nice video, what are the cut off of the subwoofer and mid range frequency?

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 лет назад

      LPF means Low Pass Filter or low frequencies pass through. This is a subwoofer crossover. HPF means High Pass Filter and high frequencies pass through. This is a midrange crossover. Both the "A" Channel and the "B" Channel on Pioneer GM-D8704 can be used with a LPF or subwoofer crossover, or it can be set up as a HPF or mid range crossover. The crossover frequencies are selectable on a dial from 40Hz to 500Hz. You can see that very clearly here: ruclips.net/video/E-VbUBAGwAI/видео.html Depending upon how you choose to set up the channel you choose HPF or LPF and then choose a crossover frequency for that channel. For example, one possible way to set up this amp is to use the "A" Channel for a pair of door speakers. On the "A" Channel choose HPF and set the crossover frequency at 80Hz. And bridge the "B" Channel for a subwoofer. On the "B" channel choose LPF and set the crossover frequency at 80Hz. When I set gain at normal my kenwood stereo gets loud at 27 and when I set the gain at h it gets loud at 30 do I leave it at normal or h

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 4 года назад

      Do what works best for you. The amplifier's gain control is designed to be used to balance the input coming from the in-dash receiver. I recommend to set all of the in-dash receiver audio settings to zero. For example, Bass Boost, Equalizer, subwoofer output etc... Set them all to zero. Turn the amplifier bass boost to zero. Then turn up the volume on your in-dash receiver and set the gain control so that you can not hear any distortion coming from any of the speakers in the system. It should be loud but no distortion. Depending upon what Kenwood radio you have, the best setting may be somewhere between Normal and H or even closer to 6.5. When you've got the amplifier gain control set, go back and slowly and carefully readjust the audio settings on the in-dash receiver. The best audio settings for you may be different than what they were when you started the gain set process. Why does it deliver less power 125 watt at 1 ohm impedance and more power i.e. 150 watt at 2 ohm impedance? Dose it internally regulates the output voltage depending upon the load? Or may be it has a current limiting mechanism?

    • @pioneerelectronics
      @pioneerelectronics  Год назад

      The amp regulates the output voltage depending upon the load impedance. The Pioneer GM-D8704 can operate safely and reliably at 1 ohm, it's designed at a 2 ohm "sweet spot" for best performance.

    Can I connect a rockford fosgate P3SD4-12, 4 OHM DVC, in parallel 2 ohm configuration BRIDGED on channel B ? How much power will it deliver in that case?

    • @pioneerelectronics
      @pioneerelectronics  Год назад

      The Pioneer DM-D8704 is designed to operate from 1 to 8 ohms load. When bridging the Pioneer GM-D8704, the amplifier sees 1/2 of the bridged circuit impedance. For example, if the circuit has a nominal impedance of 2 ohms, the amplifier will see a 1 ohm load in bridged configuration.
      You can expect about 250 watts to the "B" channel in this this configuration.

    • @pioneerelectronics

    Whats Class FD?

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 лет назад +4

      Class FD is Pioneer's designation of a Full Range Class D amplifier. Many mono Class D amplifiers play a very limited output range, for example Class D Pioneer GM-D9701 seen here: ruclips.net/video/6h3b_c3Yxnk/видео.html Pioneer Class D mono amplifiers are designed to play with subwoofers, and so can have a limited output range of approximately 20Hz to 2500Hz, and work perfectly well for that application. Pioneer Class FD or Full Range Class D will play from 20Hz to 20,000Hz or higher, and can be used with both full range speakers as well as subwoofers. I recommend the Pioneer GM-D8704. It's a great amplifier. Clean and powerful, and very flexible in it's design for installation. In an application like you have described above, it will be extremely reliable and should provide many years of great service. The Pioneer GM-DX874 is a far superior amplifier. The Pioneer GM-DX874 uses Pioneer designed and manufactured high quality acoustic elements within the audio signal chain of the amplifier. I'm happy to help. The Pioneer GM-D8704 and GM-DX874 have been manufactured since 2018. These are not what anyone would call new or untested products. They are both excellent and reliable amplifiers. Fully capable of 1 ohm operation. Thousands and thousands of Pioneer amplifiers have been sold and installed world wide, with great success for many users. Maybe it's possible the installers you spoke with work at a store that sells rockford amps, and not Pioneer amplifiers. So, they get paid to sell and install rockford amps, and not Pioneer. Or maybe it's possible the installers are confused about Pioneer amplifier models. Pioneer has 2 different lines of amplifiers. The entry level GM-A series amplifiers. These are less expensive, lower power class A/B amps. Then there is Pioneer's GM-D series of amplifiers like the GM-D8704/GM-DX874. These are affordably priced Class-D high current amplifiers with great installation flexibility and 1 ohm operation. The idea that Pioneer GM-D8704 will go into protection mode when properly installed is simply uninformed. Does this bass boost knob control strictly bass output of the amp or does it control the high output?

    • @deckerdotto6035
      @deckerdotto6035 5 лет назад +1

      The Bass Boost knob controls the Bass Output of the "B" Channel. It does not effect the "A" Channel. The Bass Boost is centered at 60Hz and can add 0 to 18dB boost to those frequencies. The LPF settings you choose for the "B" Channel are very important for the overall operation of the Bass Boost Remote. One possible set up for the Pioneer GM-D8704 is to use the "A" Channel to operate door speakers using the HPF on the "A" Channel. And to Bridge the "B" channel to a subwoofer and use the LPF and the Bass Boost Remote to control the subwoofer output. It's possible for any product to be faulty. However, before you assume that, please be more specific with your question. What is the model number of your Pioneer amplifier?
      If you are switching on the LPF on channel "B" what is the selected crossover frequency for the LPF on channel "B"? If it's very low for example 40Hz, this may be normal operation.
      When a crossover is working correctly with an LPF set to, for example: 80Hz, you should only be hearing low frequency "muffled" sounds. That's what 80zHz and lower sounds like. You should be hearing high frequencies through other speakers in your vehicle at the same time. The high frequencies are where much of the detail in the music is heard.
      Are you using a subwoofer output from your in-dash receiver? If so, do you also have an LPF on the in-dash receiver? What crossover frequency?

      @@pioneerelectronics thanks for the reply. Model number is gm-d8704 as in the video. My stereo doesn't have an inbuilt low pass filter. With the low pass filter on the amp turned on and set to any frequency between 40 and 500hz does not really change the sound coming through the sub, maybe just the slightest. and neither does turning the gain all the way up or down. Tested also a brand new sub to see whether it was a faulty sub which reacted the same way. The subwoofer is only vibrating and no excursion is seen or felt. Unless I turn the low pass filter off and then it fully pumps like normal with the exception that high frequencies also come through. And the channel b on the amp is connected through the rear rca output of the stereo and not a subwoofer rca output.

      @@motok1d To be certain, I recommend to check the Input A/B switch to see if this effects the sound in a significant way. If not, from what you've described, it may in fact be a faulty amplifier. If this is a new product, I recommend to contact the Pioneer Authorized Dealer where it was purchased. If you need to have the product serviced, you can contact Pioneer Customer Support for help finding a service center. The Pioneer GM-DX874 is a higher end version of the Pioneer GM-D8704. The inputs and outputs, switches and set up are the same between the amp in the video above and the Pioneer GM-DX874, but that's where the similarities end. The Pioneer GM-DX874 uses Pioneer designed and manufactured high quality acoustic elements within the audio signal chain of the amplifier. For example: Pioneer brand Audio Capacitors for higher audio quality and additional stability in the power supply. The use of these Pioneer brand audio components for power, headroom, and reliability is the difference. The top panel is milled from aluminum for excellent heat dispersion, lower magnetic properties, and show grade cosmetics. That and the gold plated RCA's. GM-D8704 is an excellent amplifier but does not have these features. Hi. Recently I brought this amplifier. I connected the pioneer speaker TS - A1600C to channel A of the amplifier. I encountered a problem when I set the gain to H or higher, the speaker and tweeter will start to have a hissing/static noise when I turned my Headunit volume to 0. Is that normal? As such, I have to turn the amplifier gain lower than H to prevent this irritating hissing or static noise to be heard, resulting my speaker sound softer. What can I do? Thank you

    • @pioneerelectronics
      @pioneerelectronics  2 года назад

      Clearly noticeable noise like what you are describing is not normal operation. This can be from a number of different reasons including installation issues, in-dash receiver issues, wiring issues, and noise created by the vehicle itself.
      What is the vehicle?
      What is the in-dash receiver? What is the output voltage of the RCA's on the in-dash receiver?
      I recommend to do some trouble shooting.
      With the vehicle off, disconnect the RCA cables from the amplifier. Now switch the vehicle on and power up the amp. Do you still hear the noise? If not, you know the noise is not created by the amp. If you still hear the noise, check the power and ground connections and the speaker connections. It's possible there is a problem with the amplifier.
      First be sure to check the amplifier's connections for power and ground. The power cable to the battery and ground cable. Both of these connections need to be with the same type of heave gauge cable. The ground connection needs to be made directly to the metal body or frame of the vehicle. Be sure to remove paint in the connection area to get a good ground.
      Next, are the RCA cables high quality, and not frayed with poor grounding at the connections on each end? Are you running the RCA cables together with the power cable from the battery? This can cause noise from the magnetic field created by the power cable from the battery.
      Is the noise coming from the receiver? An amplifier will amplifier all of the signal it receives from the in-dash receiver. That includes noise in the signal from the receiver. I recommend to turn all of the boost settings to 0. For example, bass boost, EQ, speaker level settings, all to zero. This will give you the cleanest signal available to send to the amplifier.
      What is the music source? If you are using Bluetooth from a phone, turn down the phone volume to 50% or so. Do you hear a difference?

      @@pioneerelectronics hi. I followed all the steps mentioned by you, and discovered the Subwoofer is creating the noise when it is plug into the amplifier and when the gain is set to H or Normal. The noise disappeared when I set the gain lower than H or plug out the active sub woofer cable from the output. The whole audio set up is done by a local audio workshop.
      The installer connected the active subwoofer to the output of the amplifier, front speaker to ch A, coaxial to Ch B. May I know is the connection done correctly?
      What are some possible cause and solution to solve the noise problem?

    • @pioneerelectronics
      @pioneerelectronics  2 года назад

      @@chinweelim8299 What is the in-dash receiver? What is the output voltage of the RCA's on the in-dash receiver?
      The Pioneer GM-D8704 has RCA outputs that can be used to connect a separate amplifier. This is a proper connection. Full range speakers connected to the "A" channel and the "B" channel also sounds like normal installation.
      I recommend to check the ground connection of both of the amplifiers. The ground connection needs to be made to metal in the body or frame of the vehicle. There can be no paint at the ground connection to make sure of a clean connection.
      Here are a few possibilities:
      1. Since plugging in the powered subwoofer is causing the noise, I recommend to ground both amplifiers in the same location. To the same bolt or screw. If they are already grounded to the same location, change the ground to different locations to see if there is a difference in the noise.
      2. Change the RCA cables from the GM-D8704 to the powered subwoofer.
      3. Ground the outer shield of the RCA cables from the Pioneer GM-D8704 to the powered subwoofer. This can often remove ground noise.
      Get a different powered subwoofer. One that's not causing a noise issue.

      I recommend between 8 gauge and 4 gauge depending upon the length of the run from the battery to the amplifier. For a short run, of 15 feet or less, you can go with 8 gauge. For a longer run of up to 24 feet, use 6 gauge and for a longer run, out to to 35 feet use 4 gauge. Please be sure to install an 80 amp fuse on the power wire within 12 inches of the vehicles battery. And to use ground cable of the same gauge as the power cable.
