    I bought this new from Amazon back in 2019 for $135. It was bench tested briefly after I got it and has sat in the box until yesterday. Swapped out a old punch 40 pushing my entry level focal components in the Miata. Bridged the B channel for JL 8” Microsub that sits in the passenger footwell as the trunk barely allows the bass to come through and rattles far too much. Sounds good but almost think the old school punch 40 sounded more rich and clear. This amp sounds kinda flat is the best way to describe it.

    Can I run a set of component speakers in once channel and 2 6.5 subs on the other channel?

  • @freethinker4liberty

    I had my heart set on the Fosgate Punch 400x4 but now I'm not so sure. I especially like the idea of the compact Fosgate, and it puts out similar power to this Pioneer but doesn't require RCA's for speaker level. Anyone care to compare this Pioneer to the regular Punch 400 or the PBR400X4D?
    I'll be running either Focal ISU series 6x9 component front, 6.5 coaxial rear, or Infinity Kappa same size, can't decide on that either and no shop is open to hear the difference. The Kappas have 2.5ohm resistance which means I'll get to put over 100W into each channel with either the Pioneer or Fosgate, the Focals are 4ohm so about 70watts from the fosgate and 100w from Pioneer.

  • @karip1126

    So can this be used to power a set of front components(4 ohm) and the other 2 channels to power small 2 ohm sub? Or will it only do 4 ohm bridged? I'm contemplating this amp with the Pioneer D-series 6x9 components for the front and the small 8" Pioneer loaded sub box (TS-A2000LB), which is a 2 ohm sub. Just not clear if it can do 2 ohm in bridged mode or not?

    • @smalltimer4370
      @smalltimer4370 4 года назад

      The spec sheet doesn't list this, and so a best guess would be no 2ohm bridged
      With that said, you could buy two dual voice coil subs and wire them in parallel at 4 ohm - 8 ohm / 2 = 4

      Wire parallel to channel!

    • @bst857
      @bst857 4 года назад

      Speakers are stuck at whatever ohms they're made with, the only way around it is to have two speakers and wire them in parallel (if you don't know what that means, its easy to find on google). So two 4 ohm speakers wired up to the amp will be 2 ohms. Two 2 ohm speakers will be 1 ohm. Another way to get the power of 2 ohms with a 4 ohm speaker is to bridge the channels of the amp, but that reduces a 4 channel amp into a 2 channel amp.

    • @Qualitymobilevideo
      @Qualitymobilevideo  4 года назад +2

      The High input and RCA's give you multiple options to connect to a head unit. The RCA's are to be used if your stereo has RCA pre-amp ouputs, or if you're using a line output converter. The high level input is to connect the amplifier directly to the speaker level outputs of the wiring harness on your head unit

    How can I power this amp at home to use it as a home theater ?

    • @pr0xZen
      @pr0xZen 4 года назад

      A very big, expensive inverter. Or a generator. And you end up paying fsr too much, for rather poor audio quality for in-home use. A car is in truth a really bad, challenging and noisy environment for audio, so sub-par audio quality is often masked by that. This amplifier packs a serious punch for its price, but its sound quality leaves s good bit to be desired. And that's in a car.
      You're gonna be way better off buying a 2nd hand home theater amp/receiver. Much better sound and suitable functionality for the use, and probably significantly cheaper too. If the intent is to drive subs, a 2-250W 10" or 12" (depending on room size) decent quality _active_ suvwoofer, is gonna get you what a 1000W 12" will struggle to do in a car. Cerwin-Vega has some very decent 10" and 12" active home theater subwoofers, that are affordable, sound great and cosmetically anonymous. Ypu csn probably get one in good condition, for what it cost in materials to build just a good enclosure. As the built-in amplifiers for active speakers are bullt specifically for that cabinet, that speaker element etc - they are vastly more power efficient than mish-mash.

      I looked up the 8604 dyno test and its pretty much the same amp with a different outer case. Maybe an extra couple watts at 2 ohm but the other test on budget gem or budget bust channel was in bridged mode, theirs probably some power loss from that. Otherwise you get and extra 12.5 watts per channel with this over the 8604.

      That's correct, by connecting the mids and tweets together in parallel(that is to say, positive with positive & negative with negative), the two speakers will be see as one to the amplifier - as per the following diagram; hometoys.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/fig2-400x250.gif

    Does the D8704 run clear for mids/highs? Some people say it's great and others that it is just OK and some hear a slight hiss from it.
    Anyone have some input?

    This amplifier is a steel for it's price. Especially if u just using it for highs and mids. This thing can make any speakers loud and crisp 🔊
    Just make sure you adjust your gains properly because they will blow any low wattage speakers. So please do not buy this using factory speakers📢
    They won't hold the amps power

    Why would the amp give off more rms watts at 2 ohms vs 1 ohm? And WTF is up with running the amp at 17 and 19 volts!!

    • @raydemarco427
      @raydemarco427 3 года назад

      Every amp will have higher output at lower ohms (resistance). Mathematics ☝️ I never heard of 1 ohm operation though.

    • @hippo-potamus
      @hippo-potamus 3 года назад +1

      @@raydemarco427 Thats exactly why I asked the question mate. It made no sense that the rms output was higher at 2ohms than at 1ohm. And while generally speaking what you replied is correct its not always the case. Many JL amps and the Taramps smart 3k do same output all all ohm loads within a given range. And some of the old school tube amplifiers actually produced more power at their rated ohm load and less power as the ohm load deviated from it. Not sure what you mean by "never heard of 1 ohm operation" ? Are you talking about impedance rise? At box tuning assuming ported enclosure the amp will see very close to its nominal load, so yes 1 ohm operation indeed.

    worthless bench test. nobody uses a 4 channel amp using only 1 channel, you need to test it with all channels driven
    or do you think you test 1 channel and then the other channels do the same? thats not how amps work. the older version has alot more power then this one
