Solid value for a true 1000 watt, 5-channel amp with remote subwoofer level control. Great video as always!
Thank you!
Love your channel @willston audio labs !
It’s not subwoofer level control. It’s a 50Hz Bass Boost control. Yeah, I was disappointed, too.
@@envisionelectronics exact. They need to suppose attenuators like JL. This knob sucks.
great review, thanks. been planning on the Alpine PDX-V9 for my boat, but this being half the price has me tempted. was glad to find some actual third-party testing done, thanks again.
No problem! The GM-D always hit their specs :)
No surprise, pioneer makes a lot of good products
when bridging channels it gives the power at 4 ohms. Or is it locked in at 4 ohms impedance? Could you wire speakers in parallel, bridging channels bringing impedance down to 2 ohms?
Phenomenal amp. Used a basic 2 channel pac high to low converter in a ford escape, to connect to this.
Using 4 a6886r 6x8s on the front two channels, for a 2 ohm load. 120hz-up
1 alpine type x 12, at 2 ohm.
And 2 jvc 8" house speaker subwoofers for 60hz-250hz at 3 ohms each on the rear channels. Not needed if you dont listen to rock, and need accurate higher bass frequencies.
Phenomenal sound.
For 200$, this is very difficult to beat. Unless you need more power for a sub. Or have a good sounding factory system already. This is the amp to buy.
You won't need a line-level converter as it's already built in. It also has auto-sensing remote on for the speaker level inputs.
How should the level input be set if the volume seems too loud from the head unit?
I’m running this 5 ch amp pushing the sub ch to a 12” 4ohm driver, my question is... If I switch out the 12” 4ohm box for a different brand 12” 2ohm box, do I need to adjust any settings on the amp or will the 12” 2ohm sub resistance automatically set the amp to 2ohms levels on the sub channel???
For some reason, my tester is showing a "negative " reading on the left channel B when checking polarity. 😣 defective amp?? Maybe...?
I recently acquired this amplifier. I am using stock head unit (Pioneer CA9PA -Mazda premacy) and it has 4 RCA outputs (Channel A&B). Since the SW output is missing it should be able to run the SW from A/B channels when you slide the SW channel select button to A/B position. However this doesnt work. What am I missing?
Also anyone knows the RCA voltage ratings for this head unit? For setting the gain correctly
Have you tested the Hi-Res DX975 yet? Perhaps the better components gives it a bit of an edge and some overachieving
What do you know about the Teac 501 Series? Besides costing close to 1k, they're f'ing awesome with my klipsch horns.
can you compare alpine pdx-v9 and pioneer gm-9705. which one is best
So using 4ohm speakers and then can i use a 2 ohm sub or better to find a 4 ohm sub?
I see you swooped in there to test this first!!! Good stuff. A little bit of clip never hurt anybody 😑, I imagine the majority of people running this amp will be building a decent budget system and for the price it’s a top contender for sure. I agree with you, the way the market is going, everyone’s 5 channel should be stable down to one ohm. Even if it doesn’t do more power, at least be stable to wire down lower.
Agree with everything you said!
does it get really hot? which one gets hotter the x802-5 keenwood or pioneer gm-d9705?
Showed "Back-Ordered" on your website. Any idea of ETA?
Thanks
I have old model, have for over 3 years, still going strong, all wired at 4 ohm, even my sub, I have jl audio 8 ohm sub wired in 4 ohms
Been waiting to see this video. I’m impressed.
Yeet
Quality Mobile Video what’s that supposed to mean?
@@420dportkid idk it's something kids say lol
Quality Mobile Video that’s what I thought. I’m old. It’s still 1998 in my mind.

If I need 500rms sub 4ohms can the amplifier push my sub well
from experience ...such an excellent value and really durable circuitry
They are great!😎
I have this Amp in a 5 channel system. Should I use the speaker connection harness or is three sets of RCA OK? (A, B, Sub)
I have a Pioneer Head unit.
I got rid of jl audio amp for my indoor speakers and alpine amp for my sub and installed this amp. All i can say it was the best choice ever.
Awesome amps
Sir how much power does this amplifier needs to power up and how much power does it drain from the battery
In the beginning of the video you say this amp can run in either 3 channel, 4 channel or 5 channel setup, can I run it as just a 1 channel setup for now (to run a single 10" 4ohm sub) and upgrade component/door speakers at a later range?
yeah, just use the sub channel or channel 5.
does this amp get hot at all and how many watts in total it runs at
LITTLE SECRET: THIS CLASS D BOARD IS 1OHM STABLE(SAME AMP AS 9605) This whole family are powerhouses(8601,8604,9601,9605 and the secret Asian market 9604)
So you're saying it would be ok to push the sub channel at 1 ohm, correct?
@@gritter781 definitely
@@rmblwgn This makes sense, but have you tried it? Is there any video recording of a 1ohm test that could confirm this?
Would love to wire two 2 ohm subs out of it
@@Nairod785 watch big d video of 9605 test same exact amp. Most all modern class d will do 1 ohm. By the time its playing it will be at 1.5-3 ohm or higher anyway. It will only ever see 1ohm for a split second
Is there a good reason to get the Pioneer GM-DX975 over the Pioneer GM-D9705?. I know is a Hi-Res but its over $150 difference. And for the same specs.
Spec wise they're the same, the GM-DX975 just has better components/more high quality parts, gold plated terminals. I would say it depends on the quality of your speakers, if you have very high quality speakers then it makes a difference, but if you're using average aftermarket speakers then just get the GM-D9705
@@Qualitymobilevideo I question if you can even hear the difference. for a $100 probably worth it. May better noise shielding....
Random question but I could really use the help. Pretty much I have a home amp that can push 4ohm 750rms max and I want to put my 2ohm 750rms sub with it for home theater use. From what I read it should be ok since the amp would be sending less watts then the sub needs and might just not get as loud as 2ohm?
Is the subwoofer DVC or SVC?
Quality Mobile Video it is a Kicker 11VS12L72. Great sub iv had in my car for years powered by a hypnotics be1700.1. Doing all the research I could I only found a Rockville RPA9 3000 Watt Peak / 800w RMS 2 Channel Power Amplifier When bridged could do 800rms 4 ohms. Thank you so much for helping!
So a SVC 2 ohm subwoofer makes a 2 ohm load, not a 4 ohm load. And that amplifier is not stable at 2 ohms?>
This amp is the closest to what I was looking for. Most 5 Channels with similar power are longer and won’t fit under a seat very well.
Why whenever I watch videos from Quality Mobile video, the audio sounds like it's 'Clipping"..!
Works fine for me.and saves on space👍👍❗
Nice like that punch and like price not bad
Thanks for the excellent review! Did you happen to check the idle current draw? I'm looking at this amp for my boat (music while anchored) so having a low current appetite is pretty important to maximize battery life and "playing time".
Idle with no volume at 4 ohms, 2.47 Amps.
@@Qualitymobilevideo Interesting -- my Polk PA-D1100.2 Class D 2-channel amp (125x2 into 4 ohms and 250x2 into 2 ohms) is 1.25 amps at 2 ohms. I'll be checking my Cadence 5-channel A/B amp that's now installed, which I'm guessing will be pretty thirsty.
@@sideskraft I'm a huge fan of Polk's amplifiers, they ALWAYS hit their specs
@@Qualitymobilevideo Well, here's the big surprise. My "boat anchor" of an amp that's in the boat now, the Cadence F100-5, attached to four MB Quart 6.5 components and two 10" Polk DB subs (2 ohm load) turned on with no music playing draws only 1 amp at 12.7 VDC. The amp is rated at 100Wx4 + 300Wx1 into 4 ohms and 150Wx4 + 500Wx1 into 2 ohms, has three 30A fuses, is an A/B Class and weighs in at 19 lbs. There aren't many reviews of that amp, but from what I can gather, it's considered a very capable power house and the output claims are likely accurate. The SQ is extremely good IMO, with smooth highs and solid lows, crisp transients in dynamic music, and the clean decibel levels it's capable of are well beyond what I ever would listen to. So now I'm quite confused as to why Polk's Class D 5-channel would have 150% higher idle current draw than this old school heavyweight Class A/B 5-channel amp. Even the Polk 2-channel Class D amp has more idle current draw (1.25A vs 1A). I double and triple checked these numbers using the same hand held clamp meter (after zeroing before each test) at the same input voltage and got the same numbers each time. I will say that the Cadence amp uses more power to get the same SPL, but some of that could be because of the MBQ speakers being less efficient than the Morel Maximo 6x9 and Moderno M6 box speakers. At lower volumes, comfortable for long term listening inside of the boat cabin, the Cadence amp draw barely increased -- maybe 1.2A instead of 1A (it's difficult to know average amp draw because the meter follows the music dynamics). At this point I'm planning to keep the Cadence amp and hook up the two Morel and two Moderno speakers to the amp for cockpit (outside) music -- that will give the amp a 2 ohm load into all five channels.
Can i connect 4 speakers and 2 subwoofer
If I wanted to get a 2 ohm load for 4 channel with 4 4 ohm speaker I put all positives in one channel and all negatives in another or how
You cannot get 2 ohm on all 4 channels using 4 x 4 ohm speakers
With that said, you could buy 2 ohm speakers to achieve this, or... connect two 4 ohm speakers in parallel to create a 2 ohm load on each channel - see; 4 ohm / 2 = 2 ohm
Can that amps can run two jbl 1200 watts subwoofers
Would you suggest this as an upgrade from the GM-9605? Also I see that I will have to run a new Bass control wire since they changed the end?
No, you would be far better off to use the money on new higher quality speakers or a new sub.
@@Qualitymobilevideo thanks for the reply. Im already good on speakers. What 5 Channel amp would you reccomend? I can handle 100x4 @ 4ohms and the sub 600 Watts. All Pioneer. Just trying to see if I would be happier with a better amp. Not even sure Ill notice a difference with the competition in that class.
How reliable are these amps for the long run??
I heard they run hot, just wondering how long they will last of thats the case
It only runs hot if you load it down and run it hard - other than that, if you run it at it's nominal rating - it will stay warm to the touch
I have this amp. All connected but when sound low or on pause. There is a small static sound. Any idea how to get rid of it?
There shouldn't be any noise whatsoever - dbl check your components for ground loops
PS. you can unplug your amp inputs and test if the the noise is from the amp or not
Tell me which connection style is better?4 ohm or 2 ohms?what is need of bridge connection
cijo james it depends on your configuration. I am by no means an expert but I did everything at two ohms. I installed my self and was very particular about matching subs and speakers to amp ratings. This setup works great whether you do 3 4 or 5 setup. I have mine set up in a 2015 Tahoe with factory head unit. I’m running 2 RF 10” subs 2 pioneer coax in the rear doors and 2 pioneer components up front. The thing sounds so amazing without gains being adjusted to max without distortion. Fantastic imo
Just got this installed about a month ago.
Excellent amp in a small package.
Driving 4 Polk db 6.5 coaxials, and a infinity kappa 1200 in a tiny little 500 abarth.
Earth shattering sound in that thing!
bee boo I don’t have any noise.
Noise is usually the sign of a sub or installation.
I had a Power Acoustik in my previous car and had noise and could never solve it.
You can order one, and hook it up quick, see if it eliminates your noise. If it does, keep it. If not, it’s you installation. You can return it
Is the kappa that good I'm looking at the same setup, l already have the polks installed I just need a good subwoofer.
This is by FAR the BEST VALUE / Performance 5 channel amp. I got this for $250, and it far outperforms its own specs. Also, I am highly skeptical that a $1000 JL Audio amp is actually any better than this $250 Pioneer. Why? Because JL Audio is a boutique little outfit that simply doesn't have the deep technical bench NOR the production volume to make these amps any better than Pioneer, a mainstream, but quality outfit.
Amazing amp at this price point, pioneer is generally pretty reliable also so that another big plus.
My old lady has had the Gm 9605 in her ride for almost three 5 years. Other than a rca getting a short she has had no issues.
Exactly, This is a HUGE amp for $250 bucks. It performs really well. Kind of a secret on the market. They could sell this fro 3 times the price with some "fancy" brand name on it, but it would not be any better than it already is.
Not only what @Robert Cook said but, 16.9 volts is why it over achieved. Although, I am still impressed enough to get one. I'm about to get back into car audio and to find a good 5 channel at such a great price from a reputable company is awesome.
Where are you getting 16.9v? Looks like they kept it around 14v DC on the MM, which I assume is the amp power input.
Limited Edition I guess I have to get it
Can you guys test the pioneer gm d9704 amp? I havent seen any tests done on it.
That's actually only available in Australia so we can't get it in
Nice vids man, keep it up !
Can I run my front splits & rear coaxial @ 4 ohm 75w per channel & then run my subwoofer at 600w @ 2 ohms?
Thanks! Are you using this specific amplifier? Yes! So you can do a 5 channel output. Use the speaker terminals for the speakers and the separate Subwoofer channel for the sub. 100W x 4 (Main channels), 600W x 1 (Subwoofer channel) @ 2 ohms
Quality Mobile Video yes I will be using this amplifier. Hopefully in about a weeks time. I’m asking because my Alpine type S speakers are 4 ohm but looking to upgrade my sub to a 600w @ 2 ohm & was wondering if I could run 4 ohm fronts & rears with a 2 ohm sub @ the same time.
@@matthewjames3476 yes you can, think of it as two separate amps on the output side that share the input side.
@@matthewjames3476 I actually spoke to someone from pioneer, and they did confirm this, they explained it like my previous comment, input and outputs are split with only the audio signal been tied together of sorts, I have seen other amps that won't do this so very valid question and glad this one does allow different ohm loads.
Charles Pack thanks for your help. I currently have the amp installed & yes I can confirm, you can run @ different impedances. I’m running Alpine type R’s v2 in car @ 4 ohms & running a Skar Audio sub @ 2 ohms 600w rms & it sounds great.

all in one amplifier!😎
Can we use pioneer tsa6996r rear seaker which have 95w while pioneer amp has 75w rms power
And front pioneer 6 inch 55w speakers and a 350 w sub woofer !
Can this pioneer amp handle this setuo for 5 hours contnous car drive and listing music ?
These are all the wiring/load capabilities:
75 watts RMS x 4 + 350 watts RMS x 1(sub) at 4 ohms
100 watts RMS x 4 + 600 watts RMS x 1(sub) at 2 ohms
200 watts RMS x 2 bridged at 4 ohms + 600 watts RMS x 1(sub) at 2 ohms
Yes I have 70w going to front and 55w going to rear and 520 going to the sub not exact figures but close since measured with a multimeter and I have a 3 hour trip one way 6 hour round trip I make once every 2 weeks or so and the amp has never shut off on me. It does get fairly warm not super hot but warm
Where do I buy this and the Z series speakers you posted a bit ago for my VW CC 2013?
Unfortunately we're not allowed to sell that series. I'd recommend Crutchfield.com
@@Qualitymobilevideo thanks, why not?
There are different authorization levels of you can and can't sell based on your company's size
In the video the claim of the stereo channels is 105rms but at the sametime the voltage claimed is 17volts which doesnt make sence/ add up , 17volts is more so like 72rms and actually closer to manufacturer spec and even a tad under rated not over and surely not even close to 105rms
will this amp do 2 x 200w 4ohms bridged for channels A B and 600w x 1 @2ohms at the same time?
*correction: Will this amp do 100w x 2 bridged @4ohms + 600w x 1 @ 2 ohms
These are all the wiring/load options:
75 watts RMS x 4 + 350 watts RMS x 1(sub) at 4 ohms
100 watts RMS x 4 + 600 watts RMS(sub) x 1 at 2 ohms
200 watts RMS x 2 bridged at 4 ohms + 600 watts RMS(sub) x 1 at 2 ohms

I have an oscilloscope. I found that both A and B channels had one speaker wired backwards on the amp I got. How in the world can that happen? The actual channel outputs are (from left to right or B to A) +-+-|-+-+. It is supposed to be +--+|+--+. It is not my input that is wired wrong. This amp puts out a 1.5 volt wave on the + side without any inputs connected, and this is what I saw. When I connect up my input, the music wave signal is also like this, there is very little on the negative side, and the wave goes through on the positive side alone.

So if I parallel wire 2 4 ohm subs will the subs get 350 or 600 rms
That will give you a two ohm load.

Could you get by with one amp or should you get two to run speakers and subs in a suv
Depends on the setup and power specs of your gear. A very solid 5-channel amplifier is capable of powering everything, even a subwoofer, so long as its not a high power sub. For example this amplifier provides 100w to each speaker and 600W to the subwoofer @ 2 ohms, and 75w to each speaker and 350W to the subwoofer @ 4 ohms. That's more than enough for a simple system

Yes!
Should always connect an amp with the high level input regardless of when then it is factory or aftermarket , this reduces the likelihood of engine noise or interference. It also gives a cleaner signal
Are you sure about that?
With that said, there are issues with high level inputs from head units, in-where many manufacturers make use of dynamic sound shaping to enhance high level playback
SmalltimR quite sure, the issue is with modern shitbox cars engine noise is more common due to poor electrics, why give an amp 2 volts when you can give it 10. The higher the voltage the less likely the gains will need to be turned up. It also doesn’t make sense to go from a high level signal back down to a low level signal back to a high level signal. I don’t use rcas these days everything is speaker level in and it makes a big difference.
Unless you need more than 600/700watts at 2ohms, this really is THE amplifier to get.
Just don't use it's high level inputs xD They are clean, but the frequency isn't. Plus it has the worst, absolutely worst input connections I've ever used in my life. The power/ground are fine. But the speaker connectors just aren't big enough

Power tests are invalid. You MUST have all channels loaded and at clipping to get an accurate power measurement as the shared power supply cannot provide the single channel measured power when all channels are loaded.

You must've slid right out during birth
I have this amp, Anybody know if I can run the sub channel @ 1 ohm???
Have you tried running it at 1ohm for hours? Would be awesome to have confirmation this works and is safe for long time usage
No one's battery is giving out 16 volts...let alone the standard 14.4 volts.... They didn't fluff it, but this demonstration is not valid for any vehicle....at least not a realistic reading
I love the Older ones with Shiny Carbon Fiber
I have the GMD-8601 Monoblock it's amazing the others like it are great too
This one is Okay in the looks department but imo this is a Mids and Highs type of amp.
Maybe good for a Vehicle like a Minivan or Pickup where you are only running a Single sub that doesn't need much power.
If you have a sealed trunk (Seats Block the Trunk) that 350 W for the sub is useless
Even if the seats fold down they would have to be down all the time.
But a system where you have the sub mounted in the rear dash this may be good.
The SW channel is 600W at 2 ohms. A single 12 inch in the trunk of any car will be adequate.
