Yes. I work in addictions and mental health, and both lead to many challenges that South Korea needs to work on. Suicides, an extreme culture of alcohol use, a patriarchal system, severe cyber, school and work place bullying, and so many more issues makes for difficult weaknesses.

By the criteria you have mentioned many if not all industrialized nations are in a similar situation, as we all have generated more wealth we have also built a society that demands more for themselves and financially that cannot continue forever. Here in Canada our birth rates are also very low, property costs (Toronto Condominiums $800,000, houses $1.6M) super high, rents averaging $2,300 per month, University going on $100,000 per 4 years with another $50K for the Masters year. I am fortunate in owning a house and paying for both my children's educations, my son helped in obtaining a NCAA D1 hockey scholarship in the US so his foreign student cost for room and board of $75,000 US per year was fully funded through his sporting achievements. I’m also fortunate both kids are educated, make very good salaries and life will be better for them, reality is however it is getting tougher to incr

Indeed, from what I have learned so far about South Korea, you indeed indicate important points that characterize a difficult social economic situation, but some of these points characterize advanced industrialized countries such as Europe, where there is also a significant decrease in births. But there is another aspect, and this is the Korean soul, like every nation, it has the emotional and mental abilities to deal with difficulties, as you testify. Korea recovered from a state of severe poverty to a state of prosperous country, along with the growth, social economic gaps were created, and this is a process in which society will go through a pendulum movement with a lot of pain and difficulty. From a centralist economic society to a society with equality of opportunity between the classes, this is a process that will probably happen to you in the coming decades along with an accelerated process of cultural changes that are already evident. Hope for a good future is the key to any success to come. Thank you again for the insights and information you give us.

Nothing in the US will improve as long as dumbed-down Americans without critical thinking skills (currently 30%) keep voting for politicians and judges that are deep in the pockets of the greedy rich. Those politicians vote whichever way their overlords want to ensure their revenue streams keep flowing no matter who it hurts. Bonus: Obedient consumers.

Thank you, I sometimes feel this way about SK, but did not know the locals feel the same. There is also in the background that officially SK is still at war with NK as no peace agreement was ever signed. Also for some the strong anti -feminist and laws and attitudes that favor men over women is a factor . Not easy to implement strong maternity or paternity leave, with the worry about getting one’s job back. Many factors as you said for low birth rate. And hopelessness. But HOPEFULLY a big shift in societal norms and policies will happen. Maybe the “collectivism” can work towards a better future.

It’s multifaceted and just saying to look at all that’s out there.
“In 2022, anti-feminist backlash may have contributed to the victory of Yoon Suk-yeol, the People Power Party's candidate. Yoon appealed to the "idaenam" and denied the existence of gender inequality, suggesting that the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family should be abolished. He also implied that feminism was responsible for South Korea's low birth rate. “
It’s this kind of attitude that I am referring to. But let’s hope that there can be a solution.

@@fiorellageno3797 I give you a thumbsup but you know? In my experience feminism is the most unfit means to increase womens rights and human rights in general.
A woman in my house worked as Women's Affairs Officer and she was frustrated with the feminists. She talked about how they are acting in ways that just burn bridges and lose friends.
So many men were on our side and are completely on board with womens rights and womens wellbeing in general but she found that too many feminist women would fight with those men. You do not reach a goal like this. This Lady worked very hard, every day to accomplish things for her fellow Ladies and was immersed in the political landscape a lot.

South Korea is one of the most richest affluent countries in the World. Quality of life from l watching your video isn’t. Children under too much pressure with their education from their parents. Average Korean man can’t marry and start a family. Also they are unable to buy or rent an appartment. From what you are saying you have one of the most highest rates of suicide. Maybe younger people have very high expectations this could be a contributing factor? Very sad indeed. I hope things improve for you and you perhaps could a more simpler life.

The food looks delicious - the facts are hard to stomach. And I think, modern people have a much too high ideal of living standard. My old grandaunt talked about their lives as young married couple. They had such a low living standard and it was normal.
You did not own a tv. You did not go out. You did not go and eat out. You repaired the clothing, things etc. when they were not good anymore. These old people build up the country after war.
Later in life, they owned the house they lived in. Having babies is one of the absolutely best things in life. If I trust your words and I do, I feel koreans need to realise that it is worth nothing if you are the best in the university but do not know how to live, do not know how to be a good husband/ wive, do not feel happy and content with who you are and in general unhealthy. I saw koreans drink and boy... do you drink! Alcohol is the drug of workcoholics.
Hope you guys will wake up to your current situation and be fine. I rather eat just potatoes with salt and butter than a restaurant-worthy lovely meal in a rented apartment but together with the next generation 💝
And GOD bless and protect the older generations, they went through so much and I hope, in Korea or in Germany, we will respect and care for them. They are treasures. 💝💝

But here many older ones plan for their older years, ensuring there will be money for their needs. Maybe parents and children there could work together put money aside for when their parents are older, thus easing the expense and enjoying the last years of their parents lives.

The answer seems simple. Build up the areas outside of the big cities so that those places can compete with big cities like Seoul. This means having large companies go outside of big cities. This means having top universities in the countryside.
Doing this will drive the overall cost of living down while developing the rest of the country. You’ll have top graduate from Korea wishing to go work and live in the Korean equivalent of Nebraska instead of paying an arm and a leg to live in Seoul.
In the US, if you go to an over saturated place like DC, you can expect lots of competition and high cost of living. But if you have an in demand skill that is needed everywhere, then you can get a similar job in … say Bristol, Virginia. You may only get 75% of the pay of DC. But your cost of living will be close to 25% of DC.

I totally respect your opinion, AKM. But everything that you mentioned can be taken care of. Can be corrected. From what I've seen with other YT content, SK can be righted. When you start spreading the idea that SK is a sinking ship ("I think this country is losing hope..."), it further exasperates the topics that you spoke of in this video. There is always, hope. Never lose sight of the fact that we humans are highly adaptable. We are more resilient than you think we are. When you have a platform, as you have, use it constructively. If SK could lift itself out of extreme poverty, rebuild after a brutal war, and become the envy of so many nations. Just imagine what else it's capable of. Have your opinion, yes, but offer a solution. Offer purpose. Offer a reason why life is beautiful and change need not only be a far-off dream. This video is kinda dark and depressing. It need not be so. Offer your voice to uplift your fellow Koreans. Be the Change.

Yeah, I've noticed it also. There's for instance, as one of the safest countries in the world, Rwanda - and they border with Democratic Republic of Kongo (DRK), where there's currently, as I remember, a war, with plenty of refugees (I've even read that President of Rwanda declared recently that his country is ready for war with DRK) - so how it can be called one of the safest countries in the world. Or about Georgia - the political situation there now is quite complicated, there's all the time the risk of Russians taking over this country (indirectly, by various influences, or directly - after all they had a war with Russia in 2008), and also there are a lot of Russians there that have left Russia since 2022. So this ranking seems to be actually quite strange.

Would you have a different opinion of South Korea if you were raised in North Korea in extreme poverty and extreme oppression?
I know SK isn't a utopia, but if you have 3 meals a day, a warm home with a bed and decent furniture, then you are already living like the Kings and Queens or Pharohs of ancient times. Imagine a life without electricity, ovens, fridges, AC, etc? Even toilet paper is a luxury in some parts of the world. I'm sure there are millions who would kill to have what you have. You have a decent job, you're very handsome and you have a clean, nice home and you seem very intelligent.
Speaking for myself. After going on a deep dive and researching life in communist North Korea, I was suddenly very grateful for everything. That coffee in the morning with cream and sugar, my Playstation 5, the TV, my vehicle, my desk job, the internet with the freedom to watch whatever the hell I want. I can vent off some anger at my Prime Minister on social media without getting arrested for it. Granted, life is absolutely not perfect and I do feel that same hopelessness you do too even while knowing how good my life is.
For me, spiritual health is also extremely important. I have to daily give time to read my Bible and pray to Jesus Christ. After praying, I do feel so much better. Christ gives me hope.
