    It wasn't part of Poland, it was a union to fight common threats: Teoton ord, later Prussia Empire, Totor-Mongol ord and Empire, Russian Empire, Sweden Empire. Both countries had their autonomy (always separated arm forces, economic systems, send their executives to the Commonwealth parliament 50/50 ratio, before 1569 different money...). And there were 4 royal cities where king stay: Warsaw, Krakow, Vilnius, and Gardin (two in Poland, two in Lithuanian Grand Ducky). It's similar to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but Commonwealth was more democratic (liberum veto right and later first constitution in the world - 1791).
