I love a lot of things about Dog Daddy, one standout thing being he doesn't make owners feel guilty. That says a lot about his skill and experience level.
Probably because he truly cares what happens with the dogs. A lot of people when someone tells them it’s their fault or criticizes them will shut down and ignore them. He basically tells them they are wrong in a polite way so they are more willing to listen to the advice and training

Same here! I recently got a new puppy and most of the puppy training videos that I found were Zack and that was fine but not the best. However… 😂 it was through Zack that I found dog daddy and from how Zack talks he makes DD sound awful! Than you watch the videos and they make so much sense. Especially when Joel’s videos start popping up. I have human kids as well, and what Joel said once made so much sense, you have to correct your children why wouldn’t you correct your dog?

I’ve wondered why I don’t see The Dog Whisperer (Caesar Milan) around much anymore. I didn’t realize people went after him. My late husband and I always loved his show.
What a fantastic discussion. I was sat saying 'yes' constantly. You all are so correct in what you have said. We get so annoyed with people who do not realise that dogs need boundaries and rules. Our dogs, like our children, now hardly ever need telling off, as they know the boundaries and the consequences. This means we have a fantastic life with our dogs, they are calm, happy, relaxed and look to us as the head of the pack, and one that loves them. Thank you all, I loved this.
I do a lot of praise for my dog, that doesn't mean there's no boundraies and rules. If anything, there's a lot of boundaries and rules. I've raised him since 8 weeks. He's now 20 months. To be able to teach these boundaries and rules, I've often had to teach him what I expected of him. It's not just what not to do, it's what I want him to do instead. And with that comes a lot of prasie and reinforcement. I have a dog that waits for his food, waits to go out the door, waits to get out the car, that doesn't beg for food, he allows me to cut his nails, give him eye drops, and brush him. (He'll sit for me, give paw to brush his feathers, lay down with his head on my lap so I can brush his neck etc.) All voluntary. He can walk off if he wants to, and doesn't. He doesn't pull on walks, but gets to sniff around for 99 percent of the walk.. He's become exactly what I want him to be. And it took consistency, kindness, patience and lots of praise. Rules and boundaries for sure, but it's not taken a harsh word, nor leash correction, or prong or e-collars. Did I have to repeat myself ad nauseum? Yes. Do I still repeat myself? No. You can have rules and boundaries while still "saying yes constantly".

I’m so thankful I found you guys. When my rescue turned out to be way more reactive than I was ready for, I didn’t know what to do, when we’d just see a dog at the end of the street, she’d start going nuts and I couldn’t get her attention back, I could literally hold a treat an inch from her nose and couldn’t get her to look at me (and the constantly feeding treats while you walk method doesn’t work so well when the dog is only 15lbs). I walked her so much to try and desensitize her (since she seemed constantly overstimulated when we left the house) but it just didn’t seem to be getting any better. She’s my fifth dog and the only one I ever considered rehoming, but then I found Beckman and finally had a path. I would love to see Tom Davis in a pod cast with you guys. Even if you were one of his guests on his pod cast. 😅 The combination of "Ill do this all day" with "No bad dogs" seems like a good combo to me.
@DawnaMiller-rb7bf he also has his own podcast and he has interviewed and entertained many different types of dog trainers, dog groomers and other people. Some were just high profile dog owners. He does pod casts as well as he does dog training. He might also be willing to share some of his contacts with Joel so Joel can get some of those interesting people on his cast too.

Man I love this podcast. I'd really like your take on Shield K9. Would love to see a collaboration with him as well. You both have been instrumental in helping me train my GSD. I've since assisted three family members get their pups behavior under control with you're videos as follow up documentation. Such a great service you're providing. Great job!
I'm currently enrolled in Shield K9s course! He's NO joke. My 8 mo old Doberman needs this kind of training....correction I NEED this type of training ha ha
@@AprilCunningham Good to hear! I've learned a lot from Joel and Shield K9. I've never needed professional assistance until my current pup Crowley. He's about 3 now and he really tested me until I looked up these two. The difference was night and day following their methods.
You know what would be awesome? To have a Jubilee episode on balanced trainers VS positive only trainers. Have a nice discussion, but positive only trainers probably wouldn't want to participate anyway..
With training my dogs i try and learn from different trainers and take methods that work for me and my dogs. Joel is my favourite and Dog daddy has some great methods too. Thank you for all the dogs lives you are saving and if anyone has a better training technique then let them step up and show it works . You both have certain methods that absolutely work .
What a treat, so awesome! Thanks loads Joel & Dog Daddy! You both do an awesome job advocating for dogs & dog-owners, to enable both living their best lives together in harmony, happiness & safety.
I love how you guys have respect for each other..there are so many trainers who get jealous and try to put other trainers down...there are so many dogs that need help out here....trainers need to work together and help....not bash each other!!!! LOVE THIS!
I love both your styles of training. You both produce results and are incredible teachers, making your instructions so easy to understand the reasoning behind and to follow. The dogs of the world are so lucky to have you both!! 🎉❤
Love love LOVE Beckman interviewing DD!! This is great!! You guys keep doing what you're doing!! The world needs men like you in it! Helping us with our dogs! 💝💝💝💝💯💯
This is a very well spoken and intelligent young man. My view on his training has turned me around because he "gets" dogs body signals and understanding of dogs psyche that has helped me understand my Auggie breed that I did not get until now and how to teach me to understand and train my dog
I’m actually here (on Joel’s channel) to learn how to help my dogs. He already has “a look,” and it’s a look that people can relate to (a normal guy). Eyes are an important part of communicating, with dogs and other people. Sunglasses hide your eyes.
@@SuziQ. people that have a light sensitivity condition have to wear sunglasses otherwise they wouldn’t be able to keep their eyes open. I don’t know if Joel does or not have light sensitivity, but I think it may be a possibility.
It’s funny how Joel’s chair is this big leather looking ergonomic office chair and Eric’s chair looks like it is borrowed from my grandma’s kitchen table set. 😂
Dog daddy is another version of a Caesar Milan . He has spent so much time observing dogs it’s natural to him . I do get it and would love to do this .
Two comments guys- First: What a week! Three incredible videos back to back to back! Plus, who knew Joel could be so gracious lol. Second: It’s time to bring back an opening theme. These abrupt openings are getting kind of jarring. You already have the perfect opening song too! It’s your secondary theme- an easy going tune that I have heard on some older videos which I think came near the end. It would Imo make a perfect opening theme to the podcast. Just my 2 cents. 😊
The reason content creators forgo the intro is that a lot of people don't like the intros to the point that they will bounce off the video before the intro ends. Personally, I just skip intros and I really love it when there are the chapters that tells me where the intro ends so I can start the content.
DD is 100% correct about terriers >> intense. Great conversation. I'd love more long format vids from DD. I watch quite a lot of YT dog training (when my two are asleep otherwise they react to dogs on TV) and learn a lot.
Depends. I got Jack Russell terriers. The most wellbehaved smart dogs i ever worked with. But i put in alot of work from the beginning. I think shepherds are way more intense and anxious
Litterally was wondering your thoughts on Dog Daddy. Glad to see you’re on the same page after watching other channels trying to shut him down. Thanks for saving some dogs from euthanasia.
That's all up to the owners honestly. Trainers can only show what helps in certain situations. Most of the time owners dont follow through with training though.
@@elaynaterrell3576right but DD isn’t there to correct them as time progresses… one session of training the owner isn’t enough. this takes time .. that’s always been my conflicting issue with DD
I’ve realized that my dogs read me better than I read them. If they get away with something, I’m being trained. I can’t help laughing when they beat me in the training games.
Sarge ( my GSD) literally laughs when he’s watching me pick up poop in the yard. I lock him in the house now. I’m not his servant. But if you think about it, I am a servant. Just don’t let them see you doing servant things.
I think it's safe to say that everyone's dogs are reading us better than we are reading them even those of us that think we know a lot about behavior, have no idea in comparison to a life lived without words.
My two FAVORITE intuitive, no-nonsense dog trainers. I trained my current dog with a lightweight Herm Spranger quick-release prong collar. He is an eighty five pound husky/timberwolf/Alaskan Malamute mix. I used it when we were walking for about a year and then switched to a simple harness with a regular leash. He now responds in the harness with the smallest flick of my wrist as if the prong collar was still there yet he hasn't worn it at all for almost 6 years. We walk loose leash and I don't worry about him dragging me. It was very effective. I also feel a lot of people expect their dog to think like a human and respond to human communication without taking the time to learn to think like a dog and learn how to understand & communicate in canine language. Taking the time to understand their language makes a huge difference in your relationship with them. If my Mika does something I disapprove of I growl at him. He lays down and rolls over on his side and stays there until he's given permission to move. Respect.
You guys are amazing! Great podcast! Thank you for all you do to help dogs and educate people. Remember, haters are nothing more than unhappy and insecure people! Your positive attitude is so contagious!
Joel and Dog Daddy are both amazing. Dog Daddy is a superstar. Joel should have a million subscribers. Thank you both for all you do for dogs and people. My dogs are my world. You have both helped me so much.
Love this!!! I use training from both you guys! Since shepherds need extra discipline bc they have so much strength and loyalty, I really appreciate the advice you guys offer!!! ❤
@13:25 - yes, exactly! There are large unbelievably powerful dogs with histories that need a rapid, REALIABLE resolution to their behaviors or they will face euthanasia. A dog biting somebody, or even just being too jovial in their "friendliness" and using their 150+ pound frame of muscle and energy to bring a child down hard, will rarely get a 2nd chance, and there certainly won't be a 3rd. We had a male lab like that. He had a massive bowling ball head and an amazing drive. Once we got him in line (Fred Hassen's seminar was instrumental), that drive was key to making him an amazing dog. I've spent some time reading and looking at videos re: Dog Daddy & Zac George '(dog) fight of the dog trainers' and 1 thing that struck me was how mellow the dog's Zac interacts with are. I found myself asking (aloud): "who the heck is selecting these easy, smaller dogs for him"?? Even the "brand new pit bull from the pound" video had a well behaved dog, highly food & praise motivated, (and may be wrong about this next part) that looked quite young -- an ideal case for any trainer. If those are the dogs you train - great, cool.... but then why lambast and try to cancel somebody that does take on those extreme cases? And to just dismiss them as cruel?? Furthermore - if George is so confident in his methods and expertise, why the reluctance to engage in an open debate or contest of ideas? That's how scientific and philosophical disagreements are aired out in civilized society. That's how we learn, how we improve, how we evolve... Sorry if I'm bringing this up at inopportune time, it's just been all over my feed.
"even just being too jovial in their "friendliness" and using their 150+ pound frame of muscle and energy to bring a child down hard, will rarely get a 2nd chance" - fear mongering
@@johntrainsdogs"fear mongering" sounds like a disingenuous straw-man of a valid concern - Large dogs often don't often have much "runway" available to afford slow gradual improvement on certain problems. I'm not solidly in either camp, But it's possible both are true: that aversives are just a band-aid (or tourniquet), and sometimes that's exactly what you need.
Beckman does say it at 41 mins, that he hasn't seen a single video of them working with an actually dangerous dog and helping them or resolving their behavior in any way shape or form. (he also has a good video out about that) I have to agree. In this video Beckman claims that the debate over positive reinforcement only versus the more firm method is OVER. There really is no video evidence out there as Beckman claims.( I haven't found any either) yet there's hundreds and hundreds of videos of Dog Daddy, Beckman (and all the others they use the firm approach) they clearly show results.
@@johntrainsdogs I'm unsure if you are nit picking OR naive. I've seen that exact scenario play out. Dog goes to greet a kid on an icy winter day, kid loses footing, and the dog makes an already bad fall worse. Kid happens to have orthodontic work that gets destroyed, and the aftermath pics make it look far worse than it actually is... Kid's mother (whose middle name is SSatan) raises hell. "Perfect sh!t storm"
The times we live in where excellent dog trainers have to worry about being “ canceled” by those with less understanding. Strongly recommend Jay Jack would be a very entertaining, informative and unusual dog trainer to have as a guest.
Yes I've worked with Jay Jack at one of his seminars and his methods are very useful for the behaviorally challenge dogs that I've worked with in our shelter for years. 👍
Thanx guys for this great interview/conversation (Haven't seen all that much from DD but i believe he's a sincere and caring person) I hope this is going to be a recuring (monthly) thing, having a guest on the Pod. Also i think i would be nice if the guest are not only dog behavior "fixers" but people that work with dogs on variety of levels, like Sport dog trainers, groomers or breeders for example.
I have 2 GSD's, 5 year old female and a 2 year old male. Lovely dogs. They go to obedience, to train us the owners and for mental stimulation plus tracking
I know this is a little older, couple.months old, and I just started the interview so this has nothing to do with the interview. I just want to say I absolutely love both these guys. Both channels have totally changed me and my dogs and how I train my dogs forever. I was having a real problem with a dominant dog. I've got two males and one female. The two males after hitting about a year and a half old started to have issues over food and generally who was the most dominant. I was so worried that I would have to re-home one or both of them if I couldn't get it under control. We don't have much money so paying for training is out of the question. I was up until about 4am a few nights ago desperately trying to find a solution. These three are very special to me. Their mom was the best dog I ever had the privilege of living with. She became pregnant by accident and she passed away after giving birth. I was devastated but I was left with 9 new born pups to care for. My wife and I took shifts sleeping so one of us was up to feed and care for the pups. We rehomed all but 3 and these three were the ones I was the closest to. Parvo came through the house while we still had about 6 of them and it took one of the pups and their father. Again devastated. I pushed water down their throats to keep the 5 survivors alive. So needless to say if I couldn't get these guys under control I was going to lose the only link I still had to Harley. Watching both your channels has shown me that I needed to be the boss. That they needed a leader and I needed to be that leader. We are about 4 days now I to the training and my whole family sees a noticable difference. They sit, stay and come on command which was something they would only previously do if we had a treat for them. We even seem closer if that's even possible. I love my dogs and I realize that being we don't have a whole lot of money isn't ideal so I've been forced to do most everything myself from training to vaccinations to treatments that I can handle. I am all they've ever known. Their first memories are of me and my wife feeding them. When they opened their eyes it was me who they saw. So basically after this extremely long winded comment I want to say thank you for putting this information online for people like me to find. I no longer fear the aggression. I handle it with confidence and patience now. I feel my own confidence has increased along with my dogs. Thank you both.
Yes haters will be loud. Supporters are just chilling watching the video and moving on. Thts actually how the algorithm works for recimmended content. They recommend u stuff thats controversial for you cause ure more likely to react and engage!
Dog daddy, I used to think you were German until once I heard you say you were from Brazil so to hear you explain your family and upbringing it makes sense now
I wonder if the haters know how “mean” caring nurses have to be at times when humans are out of control at hospitals. They have to act in a certain way during a very short time to prevent something worse happening and to be able to help the person.

I would love to see Tom Davis in a pod cast with you guys. Even if you were one of his guests on his pod cast. 😅
The combination of "Ill do this all day" with "No bad dogs" seems like a good combo to me.
Oh I would like to see that too!! Love Tom Davis!
I didn't know who Tom Davis was so I RUclips searched for him. I clicked on a video of his and he does exactly what Dog Daddy does.
@@User7688.--_ really? Well then I guess it’s just his persona then that 🤷♀️ . I mean I certainly haven’t heard anything during the podcast so far that bothers me , as far as training methods go. Though admittedly ‘I’ve only watched 30 min so far . I’m going to watch more today
Oohhh!! He would be a good one!
Oh my goodness, my freaking therapist asks me for advice with her dog, and I'm like girl I'm paying you right now, schedule a damn session 😂😂😂 I feel you so hard
I believe it.
YAY!!! I love you guys but I also LOVE DOG DADDY!!! This was an awesome interview, I appreciate you both! I love to see you all supporting eachother, thank you!!! ❤🐶
Awesome to see my 2 favorite dog people talking together. Thanks
I’m so happy to see both of you talk about real life! You two are honestly the best there is for so many dogs and the people who love them. Please know you guys have real love and support from people who actually know how much you’re changing lives. Ignore the haters. They don’t know and never will.
Hey Joel, what a real treat having Dog Daddy on your podcast - awesome!!!
"The haters are always louder"
We got your guys back! ❤
I love seeing the two of you together. Two of my favorite trainers! Great interview!
LOVE THIS!
Oh wow. My 2 fave dog trainers! This is awesome! Joel looks so cool w sunglasses on!😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️
The same!🎉
I love both your styles of training. You both produce results and are incredible teachers, making your instructions so easy to understand the reasoning behind and to follow. The dogs of the world are so lucky to have you both!!
🎉❤
If only some Vetrinary services would adapt his service to the community!
Love love LOVE Beckman interviewing DD!! This is great!! You guys keep doing what you're doing!! The world needs men like you in it! Helping us with our dogs! 💝💝💝💝💯💯
Joel , i would recognize you out there in the world and I would be frikin excited!!! Wonderful video!!!!
This is a very well spoken and intelligent young man. My view on his training has turned me around because he "gets" dogs body signals and understanding of dogs psyche that has helped me understand my Auggie breed that I did not get until now and how to teach me to understand and train my dog
I appreciate this Interview! Thank you asking great questions!
i love that Joel is entertaining finding a “look”. we’re here for it
I’m actually here (on Joel’s channel) to learn how to help my dogs. He already has “a look,” and it’s a look that people can relate to (a normal guy). Eyes are an important part of communicating, with dogs and other people. Sunglasses hide your eyes.
He's just having fun. It's all in light spirit ✨️
@@SuziQ.it’s not that deep. both can be true. dog daddy is proof of that. i love both joel and dog daddy and the proof is in their accomplishments 🤘🏾
he has a look - shorts!
@@SuziQ. people that have a light sensitivity condition have to wear sunglasses otherwise they wouldn’t be able to keep their eyes open. I don’t know if Joel does or not have light sensitivity, but I think it may be a possibility.
It’s funny how Joel’s chair is this big leather looking ergonomic office chair and Eric’s chair looks like it is borrowed from my grandma’s kitchen table set. 😂
They probably gave his usual chair to their guest which is completely fine.
Dog daddy is another version of a Caesar Milan . He has spent so much time observing dogs it’s natural to him . I do get it and would love to do this .
Younger version of him in regards to his type of training
Two comments guys-
First: What a week!
DMX intro would be awesooome
@@krysbelascoLMAO! Ruff Ryder's beat for sure.
The reason content creators forgo the intro is that a lot of people don't like the intros to the point that they will bounce off the video before the intro ends. Personally, I just skip intros and I really love it when there are the chapters that tells me where the intro ends so I can start the content.
@@RiverWoods111 That may be, but a short, well done intro ups the production values of a video and provides a nice transition into the main content.
Personally, I'm not into intros.
Love the message! Thank you Fellas!
Ohhhhhhhh I love this trio! Woo hoo! So glad you guys linked up!
I was only watching this guys stuff the other day and realised how many similarities in training you both have. Looking forward to this one!
Litterally was wondering your thoughts on Dog Daddy. Glad to see you’re on the same page after watching other channels trying to shut him down. Thanks for saving some dogs from euthanasia.
Loved this podcast .. my 2 favourite dog trainers on the one podcast !! 🤩🤩
I'd like to see the lasting effects of DD's training method. Not just the initial meeting.
That's all up to the owners honestly. Trainers can only show what helps in certain situations. Most of the time owners dont follow through with training though.
If the owners dont change their energy the dog will never change.
@@elaynaterrell3576right but DD isn’t there to correct them as time progresses… one session of training the owner isn’t enough. this takes time .. that’s always been my conflicting issue with DD
@@paolamiano I get it. My mentor always follows up
If owners can't and/or don't regularly follow through, did the training really work? Or was it just a party trick?
Oh my goodness. I do wanted this combination of trainers to talk. How wonderful..
Thank you Mr. Beckman,
Sue Twoponi
Well here it is!
Get your popcorn dog peeps!🍿😁
I’ve realized that my dogs read me better than I read them. If they get away with something, I’m being trained. I can’t help laughing when they beat me in the training games.
Sarge ( my GSD) literally laughs when he’s watching me pick up poop in the yard. I lock him in the house now. I’m not his servant. But if you think about it, I am a servant. Just don’t let them see you doing servant things.
I think it's safe to say that everyone's dogs are reading us better than we are reading them even those of us that think we know a lot about behavior, have no idea in comparison to a life lived without words.
@@pittymama4500 That is insightful and beautifully worded. You obviously are not a dog. 😀💁♀️
What is this new show dog daddy talked about… 1:14:14
❤❤@@pittymama4500
Excellent video!! Terrific content. Joel hits it out of the ball park AGAIN!
WAS IT OPPOSITE DAY ON YOUR PODCAST??Joel you’re second to none. Dog Daddy’s heart is in the right place. Thanks guys!😂
The Dog Daddy is one of the greatest dog trainers!
I actually found Dog Daddys' channel before I found yours. I'm happy he was on this episode!
Loved, Loved this podcast.!!!!! I love Dog Daddy and you!!! Thanks so much!!!
Wow...I am only 27 minutes in and the wealth of knowledge shared is really amazing and I am so thankful for you both!!
I have always loved watching Dog Daddy! I love Joel Beckman! Both consummate professionals!!! Great pod cast!
Simply extraordinary! Thank you
I know this is a little older, couple.months old, and I just started the interview so this has nothing to do with the interview.
Haters are unfortunately a loud minority.
Dog daddy, I used to think you were German until once I heard you say you were from Brazil so to hear you explain your family and upbringing it makes sense now
Dog Daddy's life in Brazil sounds idylic to many of us at this point.
I wonder if the haters know how “mean” caring nurses have to be at times when humans are out of control at hospitals. They have to act in a certain way during a very short time to prevent something worse happening and to be able to help the person.
This is the best podcast so far, love it. I’ve learn how to raise my dog thanks to both and their videos. I’ve started learning years ago from Cesar Milan, because just like it was said here, he is the legend, the OT. And I completed my learning with you two guys, so thanks you for putting all this videos out there for us to learn and have happy dogs.
Emphasis on owner training is , of course , the key to every thing !
I m from France and despite the distance, i love to follow you both. Joël, you re definitively like " The boss of the house " and Dd appears like he came from space ! He is so impressive ! This meeting is so valuable ! Thank you both !
Dog Daddy is serving looks 🔥🔥🔥
So glad I stumbled on this. I had watched several Beckman videos, and my brother showed me dog Daddy. You two are so talented in your profession and I love how you're both brutally honest. Dog Daddy... MUCH LOVE for saying Spirit as your favorite movie. Such an overlooked movie.
The way my eye lit up when i saw my favorite dog trainers in 1 podcast 🤩✨

I like this. Thanks. I mean I like watching dog trainers interview each other, learn from each other, and support one another. LEARN AND IMPROVE THE TECHNIQUES OF TRAINING. No one's perfect.
This was great fun! Two awesome dog trainers who are also men of integrity. And your buddy co-host (I can’t remember his name, sorry!) is also wonderful at guiding the flow of the show.

i thought this was unexpected but fire …would like more collabs of both in the future
