It'll be nice to see you hit 100k subs! I've been a subscriber for a long time now since some of your early theories and you've taught me most of what I know about the Zelda timeline and lore to date. Thanks for continuing your effort man!
The Hyrulean Soldier when the game was first announced they said it would be a kind of sequel to the game. I feel like just despite the words that was said there are a lot of clues to it being right after.
SilverbladeVI Nintendo has never focused on the timeline. all they ever stated was that Zelda ss was the first one. other than that theybdo not focus much on it. it is the fans that go berserk over it. i personally dont care where it is in the timeline. i just know im super excited. xD
zelda has such a large fanbase that even if that was announced, a group of fans would find some theoritical way to make it fit canon. I may be alone on it, but i wouldn't object if hyrule warriors could be forced into the timeline(s).
I still think it's after Twilight Princess based on the hints they dropped around Twilight Princess HD. Otherwise I would say it is the Imprisoning War. ie we are the ones who will seal Ganon in the Sacred Realm, leading to aLttP. Only problem is why the Ganon who Link and Zelda fail against is called Calamity Ganon already if he is just the Ganon from OoT, the first canonical Ganon and yet already a primal evil that has plagued Hyrule for generations.
Congratulations for getting 90K subscribers HMK!! You are great! I think that the only thing that you can make better is adding subtittles, it would make it easier for people like me whose mother language is not English. Also, if you finally decide to add spanish subtittles too, I offer myself as a translator :)
I think that it could be before Wind Waker (Era Without A Hero) because the style is very similar and the way that enemies explode kinda backs up my thought. it could also split from the Wind Waker timeline and join to Twilight Princess's timeline somehow
All I can say right now is it's NOT in the Downfall Timeline. There are two main reasons for that: 1 - On the Great Plateau, the ruins of the original Hyrule Castle and CastleTown are found near the Temple of Time. In the Downfall Timeline, these ruins would not exist, as they would be replaced by a giant pit of lava with the ruins of Ganon's Tower looming over it. Since there is no sign of the pit or the Tower, but rather the ruins of the old Castle and CastleTown, this pretty much rules out the Downfall Timeline altogether - as well as the Adult Timeline. 2 - Breath of the Wild is NOT the Imprisoning War!!! In the Imprisoning War, Ganon (Who is in a physical form unlike Calamity Ganon) is sealed inside the Sacred Realm, NOT Hyrule Castle. He remains in the Sacred Realm even through A Link to the Past, turning it into the Dark World. This would also rule out the Downfall Timeline entirely.
Actually you are wrong. Hyrule Historia is incorrect because of mistranslations. The Japanese Manual of ALttP when talking about the Imprisoning War specifically described Ganon as a noxious gas surrounding Hyrule Castle which we clearly see here. According to the American manual, " in time evil power began to flow from the Golden Land." This doesn't quite cover it. The Japanese word here, "jyaki" is interesting. "Ki" is one of those hard words. It is used for energy (which the Chinese like to call chi) and for how one is feeling. So it roughly translates to "mood" or "spirit' (in the sense that somebody is in good or bad "spirits"). "Jya" means wicked or evil. So "jyaki" can be translated to "malice" or "evil mood." It's something that seems to affect the land itself when it spreads. You can think of it symbolically as a cloud of darkness (Ganon's Evil/Malice/ Noxius Gas.) spreading over Hyrule. Lava could have been long since the Imprisoning War is year after Link fails in OoT
Camilo PM That's true. So technically he cant claim that it isn't possible when Wind Waker already shows it did. Even if the water practically destroyed the lave it's stands the lave would be long gone.
I just wanted to let you know, that you are my favorite Zelda youtuber. Thanks for inspiring me in making zelda content, no matter how sparse that shit is. ZELDA HYPE.
I think this game is in the Child timeline prior to Twilight princess after the great war and before the sealing of Ganondorf in to the twilight realm, that would explain the lack of Sheika, either that or after Zelda 2 because there still is a Sheika tribe character Impa, still under the kingdom's reign
The Temple of Time and the ruins of OoT's Castle town aren't yet covered in trees and foliage, so I can't see how this happens after TP. The OoT Castle town ruins being present makes placement right after SS impossible as well. The only thing I see as possible is having BotW be a precursor to TP. There was also the run-down Hidden Village of the Sheikah in TP, the perfect place to hide after being banished.
I feel like this explains the interloper war, the guardians and sheikah technology is the magic that caused the interlopers to be banished. The sheikahs are the interlopers
I really hope this is a Wind Waker/ Phantom hourglass sequel. I don't think it will take place before oot because Demise's first incarnation and appearance as Ganon was in oot.
HMK, do you think you could make a video going over in depth of all three of your timeline placements, stating your supporting facts and flaws for each placement based on what we know from the trailers/tapestry? I would love to watch it man.
Hints that this is a direct sequel to Skyward Sword (my theory) - In the breath of the wild, it is said that the Sheikah were banished due to their crazy technology. This is also the case in OoT, where the Sheikah is said to have been banished from the Kingdom of Hyrule - We see the exact shrines, as the ones in Skyward Sword (the ones zelda goes to, to pray to Hylia) - We see a new form of Ganon called the Calamity ganon. THEORY: This could be a hint to how he was first brought to the world (he has had no human or regular beast form at this point yet). So basically ganons backstory is part of BotW - We see Link fighting a male gerudo with the Sheikah symbol turned upside down (possibly soon to become Ganondorf perhaps? = merge with Calamity Ganon, when Calamity ganon is defeated which leads to OoT) - Deku tree (we don't know if it's before or after OoT deku tree) - How could the sheikahs possibly have invented all this technology to help the kingdom in OoT after link was defeated, when they were in fact banished from Hyrule at this point? It just doesn't seem to be a sequel to OoT. Sorry to say. - Why wouldn't this be the era of prosperity? The part where ganon first attacks, it seems like the Hyrule Kingdom is flourishing like never before - Zelda in BotW does look similar to Zelda in Skyward Sword
Hint that it is not the downfall timeline - How could the sheikahs possibly have invented all this technology to help the kingdom in OoT after link was defeated, when they were in fact banished from Hyrule at this point? - The castle town was already in ruins, when link tried to defeat ganon. In Breath of the Wild we see it get destroyed by Sheikah technology mostly. Hints that it's not the Child Era timeline - The reason Ganondorf is not succesful in the Child Timeline, is because Link warns Zelda about Ganondorf and Zelda sends Link far away from Hyrule so Ganondorf can't open the passage to the Sacred Realm. So why would he come back?
I believe we have seen the Elephant.... There's a scene in the latest trailer that shows Link and some of his presumed allies standing in front of a fallen building. The building follows the style we have seen from the Sheikah so far. Thus, I think that something happened to the Elephant, and it was left in the wasteland for Link and his allies to find.
A couple of major points that I haven't seen many talk about are the name of the villain and the state of the master sword. The latter being the lesser of the two being mentioned. The antagonizing force is called Calamity Ganon, and so in order for the name Ganon to be known it has to take place after Ocarina of Time. And as for the state of the master sword, it's decrepit and broken meaning that it must take place long after any of the timelines end.
I'm convinced this is the destruction of the bond between Ganon and the Royal family while taking place far past 4 swords. It'd be closest to a sense of closure for the series I think we will see.
This game now makes the most sense coming after _Twilight Princess_. Only in that game did the Kingdom of Hyrule migrate North to the location they're found at in _Twilight Princess_. In _The Wind Waker_, they relocate the castle to a body of water, possibly even Lake Hylia. I can't tell where it is in the Downfall Timeline.
What's interesting is, when the old lady in the trailer (which I assume is Impa or some equivalent thereof) mentions the Calamity Ganon, that it is a primal evil that has endured through the ages, it's telling me as a viewer that the entity Ganon has been around before. I do not get the impression that Ganon is separate from Ganondorf, as they are one in the same. Ganondorf becomes Ganon at the very end of OoT as a last resort to defeat Link and Zelda for the total control of the Triforce. So in order for Calamity Ganon to exist, Ganondorf had to exist before that, and OoT is Ganondorf's origin story. There is no mention that Ganon and Ganondorf are two separate beings, and it's never been mentioned before. I've had speculation that ZeldaU (BotW) would be a sequel of sorts for Skyward Sword, or just merely a game placed after it, but with the evidence pointing to Calamity Ganon, I'm not sure that this would be an appropriate placement. My theory lies more on the Death/Defeated timeline, since the kingdom is in a heavy state of decay, or one of the other timelines, maybe the Child timeline. Would love for this to be a Dragon Break though! Love your videos HMK! You have great Zelda coverage and I look forward to seeing you go over BotW when it finally releases in March (dude I'm as hyped as you are like your reaction video was totes me) :)
Daron Barefoot I really don't want it to be in the downfall either. I think it takes place in child because the producer(can't spell his name right) said that Tp has connections to BoTW, not the aimebo(did I spell it right).
Unfortunately for some of you, it'll be in the Decline timeline. A lot of evidence points in that direction, even more so, that this Link is the LoZ/AoL Link. It can't be the Child timeline because Ganon, along with Vaati, were sealed along with the Four Sword, not with the Master Sword, in that timeline It also can't be the Adult timeline because Ganondorf was defeated and sealed with all of Hyrule again at the end of Wind Waker, thus the ending Ganondorf's reign. People have been saying it's also the Hero of Time (HoT) Link that failed and lead to the Decline timeline, but the backstory for A Link to the Past refutes it, as Hyrule is not yet in ruin as shown in BotW gameplay and neither as indicated by the following sequels for ALttP: Oracle of Seasons/Ages & Link's Awakening, (which is the only set of Zelda games that feature the same exact Link 3 times in any of the three timelines) following with a new Link and Zelda for A Link Between Worlds and the same Hyrule as ALttP is set in. Let it be known that the ending of ALBW indicates the beginning of Hyrule's Prosperity (the Era that introduces Zelda I and her curse, the backstory of AoL and the story of The Legend of Zelda itself) until Ganon's inevitable resurrection and kidnapping of the Lesser Hyrule's current Zelda (and current bearer of the Triforce of Wisdom, not her great relative, Zelda I, in the North Castle). At this point in LoZ/AoL, it should be noted that Lesser Hyrule, as much as it's divided, part of its overworld map still slightly lines up with the ALttP overworld and on top of being just a partial map of an even bigger Lesser Hyrule that is introduced in AoL, as the top of LoZ's map (where Death Mountain and Ganon's Lair is ) is the bottom half of all of Lesser Hyrule, as North Castle is, well, in the north lol, but the map is vast and is in decline much like what was shown to us for BotW
Regardless what timeline, it looks to be an epic game that I plan on playing and enjoying. I think the reason I'm so against the downfall timeline in general is because technically speaking it shouldn't exist. We as the players defeated Ganondorf/Ganon in the Adult timeline while in the child timeline his plans were foiled and Twilight Princess ensued. Link never actually died, meaning the downfall timeline is a hypothetical timeline. Plus, like blackfour5 said, there's already a big disparity in the number of games in the downfall timeline as compared to the other timelines. Just my two cents.
There's a very small theory that I've come to agree with, that the timeline might occur during the interloper war. Due to the fact the shieka are banished and there's no real confirmation the other races are " getting along " once after the Calamity Ganon . They could be working together but out of new hope everything will return to normal, but there's no evidence all the races are buddy-buddy with each other.
Remember the swordsman with the upside down mask? he probably was a Shekiah angry with the king and decided to fight against the Hylians seeing that they were banished by the Hylians when they were trying to help. I bet there's probably a rogue faction of Shekiah.
HMK, this Link is the Hero of Time resurrected. The passage confirmed this with, "The Hero and Princess attempted in vain to seal Ganon". Also there is a beyond amount of evidence to support this being the Downfall Timeline between ALTTP and OoT. Read these facts another user posted: Fact: Nintendo has point blankly said everything about BotW is inspired by art and a desire to return to classic Zelda roots.Fact: No other Zelda that takes place in alternate timelines have they played the classic Zelda theme music that has existed since the first game, second game, and a Link to the Past. The adult timeline was flooded well before the 100 years were up.Fact: The ruins of Castle Town are clearly visible as well as the fact the Temple of Time is in shambles, with no sign of the Master Sword present. This eliminates, instantly, the child timeline, as Majora's mask is already after Ocarina and Twilight Princess is 100 years after Ocarina. The Great Deku Tree stated, point blankly to Link, that Link had forgotten who the Deku Tree was. This is a strong indication and evidence that not only is this the fallen timeline, but this Link is the Hero of Time who failed to defeat Ganon at the end of Ocarina of Time. Fact: Ganon has already been defeated in the Child and Adult timelines. The only time period that was a clear mystery left on the timeline was the Imprisoning War. And since Ganon was only known AFTER Ocarina of time, since Ganondorf did not exist before Ocarina of Time this cannot be before Ocarina of Time. Fact: No one knew where Ganon came from in the Fallen Hero timeline. This is not the case in the Child or Adult timelines as Ganon's origins were well known. Fact: The fact the Master Sword was heavily damaged alone is an allusion to defeat. In the Adult and Child Timelines both the Master Sword was pristine. Only in the Fallen Timeline in A Link to the Past, has it ever been required to repair the Master Sword.Fact: Only in the Fallen Timeline does the Master Sword appear anywhere but the Temple of Time. If this was in the child timeline then it would fail to explain how the Master Sword got back to the Temple of Time, that, by the way, would be in better shape than the Temple of Time in BotW. Fact: The Deku Tree makes an appearance in the very first Zelda game as the first dungeon. Fact: Original Zelda and the Adventure of Link actually have shorelines for Hyrule.Fact: defensive magic and technology did in fact appear in Ocarina of Time, and long lost technology would have been used as a method to defend against Ganon in case of the Hero's defeat, as was clearly being demonstrated in the trailer. Fact: We know 100 years passed, and it was 100 years after the fall of the hero that the imprisoning war took place. Fact: The black smoke is not a coincidence as it tends to harkon to Ganon's absolute corruption from the fallen timeline.
For once, we agree. While it's VERY unlikely this takes place in the Child line in any way at all, it could be after SS. This back story makes Calamity Ganon out to be an entire new threat, something never seen before. Which would make some sense...or at least it would if it weren't for janky time travel logic. OoT and OoA Link go back and forth and things change with the past. But despite killing Demise in the distant past, the characters of the present still remember everything that occurred... It's almost like that gate isn't time travel at all
Here is my theory. BotW takes place in the Era of Decline. Link falls at the hands of Ganon in OoT. The Sages in a last ditch effort seal Ganon away in the Sacred Realm. Some where around a 100 years later, Hyrule has rebuilt in a new location, and is seeing the Kingdom as strong as ever. Then the Calamity Ganon appears and the events unfold as stated in this video. I really think most the evidence points towards this timeline
This is mine theory of the story and placement in the timeline: Before A Link to the past Ganon was sealed twice. First time was shortly after Ocarina Of Time and the second time was during the sigil war. The Sigilwar started with people seeking the power of the sacred realm what became a shadow world infested by the dark hearth of ganon. They opened it and Ganon came free. The King ordered that the seven sages must seal the sacred realm. Protected by the Knights of Hyrule they closed the gate and defeated ganon. Link and his companions seen in the latest trailer are those knights of Hyrule. Link was Knight of Hyrule before his 100 year slumber. In the Trailer you can see, that they escape and that Zelda arrives at the Deku tree. My Story theory: After Ganon was sealed after Ocarina of time the Sheikah created many objects in Hyrule and it began a time in peace. To honor the hero of time, each decade a Hero is chosen to be known as Knight of Hyrule and to carry the Master Sword. Link became this Knight and the protector of Zelda. Sometime later people tried to enter the sacred realm and set Ganon free. The Sheikah tried to defeat him with their creations but they were corrupted and started to destroy Hyrule. The king ordered Link to rescue Zelda and both tried to escape Ganon. Covered in mud and exhausted Zelda reveals that everything she has done was for nothing. She says that because it was her duty to prevent Ganons release. But she failed. Before they could escape further they were attacked. Link was defeated and in succesion the Master-Sword lost its power and started to rusting. Zelda screamed: "NO" and destroyed the enemys with her magic. After the battle the kokiri which turned into Korgs showed her the way to the deku tree. He explained that Link can be saved. Zelda left the Master Sword at the Deku Tree to recover and brought Link to the Shrine of resurrection. 100 years later Link awakes and is given the task to find the seven sages to seal the sacred realm. In his adventure he finds new friends which become the knights of hyrule. Link defeates Ganon with the resurrected Master-Sword, he is sealed and BotW ends. Sadly the Deku tree died because he used his life-energy to recover the Master-Sword. After the battle Link brings the Master-Sword back to the Woods and disappers. This explains why the Master Sword in A Link to the past is found in the woods and not in the Temple of time. Reason why it is not placed in another area of the timeline: BotW plays after Ocarina of time because it exists a rotten Temple of time and Ganon exists. BotW takes place in the Downfall timeline, because it cannot take place after Twilight princes: destroyed Temple of time and not before it: Ganondorf was busy making plans in the twilight realm. Also not before windwaker because it was the time without a hero and not after it because many reasons: no temple of time instead the castle was built on top of that, the master sword is in ganondorfs head and whole hyrule is sunken under tons of water My reasons it plays before and not after a Link to the past: The whole sigil war story fits too good and it explains many things, why did the master sword changes it location, why is there no more deku tree etc. Also in the original legend of Zelda there is a Dead Tree as the first dungeon. this is the Deku tree who died in BotW. Additionally the two original games are set so late in the timeline because they are in their own universe the timeline works well without them and when they were made such a think as a timeline was never intended. I hope it wasn't too long and that someone reads this. XP
Personally I believe it will be a timeline all it's own. I think they are looking for a way of crating Zelda games, but being able to have more freedom in being able to create the game. Depending on how this one ends, they may be able to have the next Hero be Links child or grand child. Maybe the villan can be different. I've played Zelda games for nearly 30 years now, but I'm open to possibilities. It would be cool to shake it up a bit.
Didn't the Sheikah add the tear when the Royal Family betrayed them? I think this was said in the OoT manga. Not sure if it's canon but I thought it's was worth mentioning.
I think the story fits best as a kind of reimagining of a combined story of Link to the Past and Zelda 1/2. While they are different periods on the timeline, there are big story elements borrowed from each story: A prosperous Kingdom struck down 100 years prior (Original Zelda) An imprisoning war (Link to the Past) A hero put to sleep for 100 years (Original Zelda, except it's Link this time instead of Zelda) Mechanical guardians flooding Hyrule (Original Zelda) Plus a lot of the official art from Zelda 1 and 2 are reflected in Breath of the Wild, including the main image of Link looking over Hyrule. I think this is a re-imagining of the original Legend of Zelda story with elements of Link to the Past, and potentially other Zelda games, meshed in. I think Nintendo is trying to create a new definitive Zelda title, which hasn't been done since Ocarina of Time.
I've heard that the game is at the Timeline breaking point when Link loses to Ganon and creating the Downfall Timeline. Reportedly Reggie said that the hero you play in the game is the Hero of Time.
I wasn't planning to watch due to potential spoilers I don't want, but I still wanted to give you that well deserved like man! Keep it up! Almost to that 6th digit!
I'm still stuck that its in the adult timeline. But Im starting to come around to the idea that it comes after twilight princess. also. That outro track is sick as hell.
What if this game took place during another split before windwaker. Like, in the windwaker timeline, link wasn't revived in the resurrection shrine, and there was no hero around to save hyrule, but in the botw timeline, link would return and avert the great flood. just a thought, and im sure it has some continuity errors
I'm fairly certain that what Link, the dark-skinned woman, a Goron and that walrus are looking at in the distance is the elephant-like guardian. I think it's buried and maybe not right-side up.
Anyone remember the intro for Minish Cap? That ambiguous story would fit right into the Era of Prosperity timeline placement; An unspecified amount of time lies between the Sky Era, The Establishment of the Hyrule Kingdom and Minish Cap... if BotW takes place within the established timeline, it should be here... This would also give reasoning behind TPHD's Easter Egg of BotW pillar carvings, as it would be anceint history by then... Even if it were in the Skyward Sword time-split, it would still happen roughly around the same time in each timeline, somewhen after Skyward Sword and the Establishment of the Kingdom of Hyrule... Also, a reminder, due to this split, there's a SS Zelda still sleeping that never got awakened by Link... There's also a Ghirahim running around... With no Demise to ressurect, what trouble will he be causing...? He's probably the cause of Calamity Ganon in BotW, aiding the reincarnated Demise...
The army was taken over by the Calamity Ganon. Because of this failure the Sheikah were banned. I feel like the Sheikah are the interlopers from Twilight Princess. This is about the interloper war.
my placement would be new timeline or after OoT, prior to WW. new timeline means infinate possibilities, so nothing could disprove it until official placement is released. if it was prior to the great flood before WW, it could explain the races present. the flood that caused the erase of gerudo from the adult timeline has yet to happen, early rito could appear alongside zoras prior to the extinction via evolution of the zoras, gorons being as tough as they are could really only be eliminated or endangered by a flood or great evil, krokoroks would be simmilar to the zora's with the first appearing alongside the last kokiri, though we have yet to see any kokiri. the great deku tree appears to be the dead one from OoT, but that places the master sword either on top of the sapling that becomes WW G. deku tree or very close. the only big problem i see is the apparent "absence" of the hero that caused the great flood, but if BotW's canon ending is defeat or the timeline placement i'm thinking of is the backstory, 100 years could place the game at the end of the adult timeline, but then certain races being present adds some questions that need to be explained in game, the big one being gerudo. (i haven't played PH, and ST is the zelda game i remember the lore the least of, though)
Do you think the switch will be available for preorder again before March 3rd? This better not be like another NES Classic Edition, where the price gets jacked up 😟😞
One idea i have heard is the fact that it could be if Link lost the fight against Gannon, creating another timeline branch. That would explain y there is the Deku Tree and Koroks along with all of Hyrule in almost perfect construction before the Calamity Gannon. What do u guys think?
I don't think that it would be set anywhere near Skyward Sword. What's the point in destroying Hyrule when it's barely established. I think sometime after Twilight Princess would make the most sense because the kingdom of Hyrule is the most established and thriving at the end of TP, so it would be much more impactful if Calamity Ganon destroyed that timeline as opposed to already destroyed or barely established Hyrules. Other things supporting the theory include the appearance of Castle Town and the Bridge of Eldin being incredibly similar between BOTW and TP. But still, there are many things wrong with this theory. The Temple of Time was in a worse state in TP than in BOTW, the Koroks were not around in TP, there was no Great Deku Tree in TP, and the Master Sword's location is in the Lost Woods instead of the Temple of Time. At this point in time, I don't think that there are any timeline placements that make perfect sense. We just need to wait until March 3rd to finally start to unravel this mystery.
The more Theory videos I watch, the more I am convinced that this is a converging of all three timelines into a single timeline again. We see elements of each timeline because they are literally coming together again after being split in OoT. Each timeline is resolving, in a way, to this point. The point where every timeline comes together to bring a great peace and prosperity to Hyrule because the split has been fixed. Then, calamity strikes, so fast that the unified hero nor the royal family nor the sheiks could move fast enough to stop it. The sheiks get blamed, and zelda puts the hero in the resurrection chamber so that one day, he will wake and rise against Ganon one final time.
Hey HMK I would like to point out that there are several different types of guardians on the tapestry. Nintendo put out some concept art of a guardian that wields giant energy swords and i noticed that in the bottom corners of the tapestry you can see them there
I think before the 100 year TL BotW took place right after the Sky Era, and then the destroyed hyrule we see in the present is during the Era of Chaos.
it has to be in ether the Downfall Timeline or after Twilight Princess because the fact they say it's the Calamity "Ganon" meaning after the events of Ocarina of Time otherwise there'll be no knowledge of "Ganon" so your split timeline after Skyward Sword but before Ocarina of Time doesn't make since
A lot of what you've said is on point apparently. I'm pretty sure Link got smoked on that first attempt and probably zelda too, and the tower of resurrection was repairing the damage up until this point or altogether bringing him back. And now Link has to restore zelda too? maybe
I would like to see this happen after Twilight Princess. I know that doesn't explain the presence of certain races, but nonetheless, I am excited for the return of the Gerudo! Man, if I am not able to get this game right when it comes out, I am going to have to hide from the internet for a while to avoid spoilers!
HMK i love your channel and amazing theories. my theory for the time line is in the part where the "Hero is defeated" breath of the wild could take place after this where the hero is resurrected.
I don't think that they'll branch off from skyward sword. They don't want to keep complicating the timeline. I think that the Koroks make me think that it's more likely to take place in the adult timeline. That would explain the races, and the odd positioning of landmarks. I like your era of prosperity theory most of all. That explains the temple of time, the races, and why the shiekah are so rare in the games afterward.
i still believe that it takes place in the 4th timeline in the ALT time after skyward sword as theres no mention about the races of zora, bird, and gerudo anywhere in the minish cap other than gorons.
What if it happened in the Child Timeline, after TP, but without FSA ever happening? It shares many similarities with TP (Temple of Time in ruins, Great Bridge of Hylia, etc. The whole Calamity Ganon thing is of a completely new magnitude from everything we've seen so far, where Hyrule is essentially obliterated. (I'm not talking about the Adult Timeline, because the land was flooded over. The sea salt argument is less credible imo because we had other seas before, such as the Lanayru sea in SS. Who really knows if the Gerudo were wiped out? Sure, Ganondorf was executed, and the Spirit Temple looted, and turned into a torture prison, but maybe they just retreated further into the desert? The map for BotW is massive. And now why I say it would be after TP, but without FSA ever taking place. Not to be down on any Four Swords fanboys out there, but there really is no evidence linking FSA to BotW. FSA itself does not really have much of its own lore, except for the cliche: "Oh, no! Ganondorf returned, and turned Hyrule into shit, and now Link has to go save Princess Zelda." It honestly could be anywhere, because its more of a party game, and not really story driven. And yes, I have read Hyrule Historia, so don't quote me on that. Anyways, sorry for my rant, but this is just one thing that could work for the timeline. Wondered if you guys were interested.
Daniel Bertazzon they made a new hyrule but maybe the goddesses wanted the old hyrule and its people saved so zelda and link came back after they were born into there spirit track decendents and grew up i mean zelda and tetra the eyebrows the art the champion shirt that every race wears like a gift from the old sea days this gives time for the ruto to split and become the zora and the land to come back
plus all the land marks would still be there zelda came back built her kingdom just as she would of if the flood hadn't happened thus all the Twilight Princess references
and why doesnt anybody talk about the split in ganon i mean yes he looks like a boar but he also looks like a man split in half when it roars and comes up what if the master sword after century's being lodged in ganondorfs head ate away the sword and the day they prepared to take it out and ganon down his corruption broke the power of the shiekah and with the blade so badly damaged link failed and thus had to be kept hidden until the great deku sprout could with the help of the resurrection flowers bring the sword back to glory after a 100 year healing
i say zelda breath of the wild is an alternate timeline that takes place before ocarina of time due too the hyrulian's relationship with the sheikahs which are strongly mentioned in both games. or takes place after skyward sword as an alternate timeline.
I still think _Four Swords Adventures_ fits better between _Four Swords_ and _Ocarina of Time_. It takes a while to explain, but it makes much more sense than placing it after _Twilight Princess_.
You make good points on your theory HMK, but i have to point this out. when i was watching the 2017 presentation trailer i got this at 2:10 "that look on your face tells me, that you have no recolection of me however" - Great Deku Tree towards Link The great Deku Tree never had any appearances throughout the Zelda series except for OOT & WW. What i'm saying is that the Great Deku Tree remembers him....REMEMBERS HIM and link has no idea who he is! It doesn't fit this timeline of OOT leading into MM and TP because Link possibly died during Marjora's Mask and there was no sign of the Great Deku Tree in Twilight Princess, which leads me directly to got damn Wind Waker! That Link (during WW) met the Deku tree and ja-da-ja-da possibly failed to defeat ganon with Zelda. This Truly makes Ganondorf get his wish for Hyrule, but for what price? Calamity Ganon? Coincidence? MAYBE! And from reading the backstory for BotW it might make sense. But who am i to call this? I'm just a loyal Subscriber who loves Zelda as much as the next person I'm done -_-
honestly its so obvious that its a prequel to oot after the "links failure" timeline, summary: links fails killing ganon👉 heavely wounded hes been set for a stasis like sleep for 100 jears, he wakes up, must regain memorys...( didnt work if you the player has nothing to rememder based on nothing you experienced) and finally kills ganon, ( a link to the pasts backstory tells something about a war for decades before somewhone(link) came on stage) if you think about that the artstyle, references and characters takes more influence by games like oot(deku tree) zelda 1(link mountain scene) alttp(master sword wood) and zelda 2(sword easter egg) which are games all in the same timeline,
I think it could take place after the adventure of link in the child timeline. Hyrule is mostly separated and in the middle of reclamation. And ganons acalotes were all after links blood to revive the great beast. And did the shirks fall before skyward sword. #hype
I think it's after four swords adventures because in the new trailer there is a small showing of a destroyed fountain and fountain looks identical to the one in twilight princess
Has to be after Skyward Sword, the major references with the Goddess Hylia are too prevelant with the goddess dress and shrines. The sheikah could have had the time to create these awesome beings after Skyward Sword, The major differences with the Temple of Time. Even in the paragraph it doesn't say that Ganon became the Calamity, it became known as the Calamity Ganon. Although I enjoy the speculation throughout the community at large.
Here's my theory. Breath of the wild takes place between OoT and A Link to the Past, ergo the first game in the downfall timeline. The Link in this game is the Hero of Time who has fallen against Ganon. After his defeat, Zelda managed to take the Master Sword from the fallen hero and moved it to its location found in BotW and A Link to the Past. How Zelda managed to take Link's body to the chamber? No clue. Zelda or Impa passed the knowledge of Link's location only within what was left of the royal family, otherwise I really can't explain how this games Zelda can speak to him telepathically. I guess the whole triforce connection could explain it, so long as BotW Zelda is in fact another reincarnation of Hylia. As far as the left and right handed issue, Nintendo just may have stopped caring.
actually it may be a sequel of the wand of gamalon....
Alias Fakename MAH BOIE!!
SilverbladeVI Obe1 confirmed on his totally credible sources
Alias Fakename IKR Obe1 is so unreliable at times. lol
The Discussion Zone he made get over hyped for it, like when he said it was 4k and shit lol
It'll be nice to see you hit 100k subs! I've been a subscriber for a long time now since some of your early theories and you've taught me most of what I know about the Zelda timeline and lore to date. Thanks for continuing your effort man!
I'm still saying skyward sword sequel or twilight princess sequel
The Hyrulean Soldier all games are skyward sword sequels technically
The Hyrulean Soldier when the game was first announced they said it would be a kind of sequel to the game. I feel like just despite the words that was said there are a lot of clues to it being right after.
Jacques true but I'm saying HMK's separate time line or before minish cap theory
SilverbladeVI Nintendo has never focused on the timeline. all they ever stated was that Zelda ss was the first one. other than that theybdo not focus much on it. it is the fans that go berserk over it. i personally dont care where it is in the timeline. i just know im super excited. xD
they make the game enjoyable first and then concentrate on story and timeline placement later.
And then Nintendo all of a sudden comes out and says the game isn't going to be cannon lol
Andrew Thomas LMAO!!! THAT WOULD PISS OFF EVERYONE!!
Andrew Thomas I would totally lose my shit if that was the case.
Andrew Thomas sounds like something rockstar would do
zelda has such a large fanbase that even if that was announced, a group of fans would find some theoritical way to make it fit canon. I may be alone on it, but i wouldn't object if hyrule warriors could be forced into the timeline(s).
Cullen Latham True. But Hyrule Warriors doesn't deserve to be in the timeline imo
I still think it's after Twilight Princess based on the hints they dropped around Twilight Princess HD.
Otherwise I would say it is the Imprisoning War. ie we are the ones who will seal Ganon in the Sacred Realm, leading to aLttP. Only problem is why the Ganon who Link and Zelda fail against is called Calamity Ganon already if he is just the Ganon from OoT, the first canonical Ganon and yet already a primal evil that has plagued Hyrule for generations.
make my day by responding
Day Made
do it for him come on!
HMK love you dude ❤❤❤ tysm
yay!!
nice
Congratulations for getting 90K subscribers HMK!! You are great! I think that the only thing that you can make better is adding subtittles, it would make it easier for people like me whose mother language is not English. Also, if you finally decide to add spanish subtittles too, I offer myself as a translator :)
I think that it could be before Wind Waker (Era Without A Hero) because the style is very similar and the way that enemies explode kinda backs up my thought. it could also split from the Wind Waker timeline and join to Twilight Princess's timeline somehow
maybe it's a timeline split from windwaker we're gannon is successful in draining the world
God satan that's what I was thinking
It's called Era without a Hero for a reason.
Ninten that era could be the 100 years that Link is in stasis
Jordan Gilliand Thay would mean Link wakes up durint the flood though
All I can say right now is it's NOT in the Downfall Timeline. There are two main reasons for that:
1 - On the Great Plateau, the ruins of the original Hyrule Castle and CastleTown are found near the Temple of Time.
The hyrule castle also can be found in adult timeline, Ganon also has his castle in the lava pit in that timeline
Camilo PM That's true. So technically he cant claim that it isn't possible when Wind Waker already shows it did. Even if the water practically destroyed the lave it's stands the lave would be long gone.
I still think it's in the Child Tineline
Agreed ma boi!
Denver Stewart I agree as well
same
Lol I'm on the Downfall Timelime Imprisoning War bandwagon.
at least you dont think it all of the timelines conjoining
I hit the like button before watching as always, love your videos HMK!
Hype Master please, my hype is already through the roof I can't take all this
HMK DO A LETS PLAY ON BREATH OF THE WILD!!! THATS AN ORDER OF THE FANS!!!! and love your work peace! Like so he can see :)
I just wanted to let you know, that you are my favorite Zelda youtuber. Thanks for inspiring me in making zelda content, no matter how sparse that shit is. ZELDA HYPE.
I was hoping you would make a video on this! yay🙌
Brian Muir Good points, but it's Nintendo and it's just a "legend" after all
Brian Muir and the Hidden Village is in AoL, too
I feel like this explains the interloper war, the guardians and sheikah technology is the magic that caused the interlopers to be banished. The sheikahs are the interlopers
I really hope this is a Wind Waker/ Phantom hourglass sequel. I don't think it will take place before oot because Demise's first incarnation and appearance as Ganon was in oot.
I subbed I cried when I watched the trailer I love this and I am glad you could share it with us
HMK, do you think you could make a video going over in depth of all three of your timeline placements, stating your supporting facts and flaws for each placement based on what we know from the trailers/tapestry? I would love to watch it man.
HMK still does the best best Zelda BOTW videos. I love his vids.
Hints that this is a direct sequel to Skyward Sword (my theory)
- In the breath of the wild, it is said that the Sheikah were banished due to their crazy technology. This is also the case in OoT, where the Sheikah is said to have been banished from the Kingdom of Hyrule
- We see the exact shrines, as the ones in Skyward Sword (the ones zelda goes to, to pray to Hylia)
- We see a new form of Ganon called the Calamity ganon. THEORY: This could be a hint to how he was first brought to the world (he has had no human or regular beast form at this point yet). So basically ganons backstory is part of BotW
- We see Link fighting a male gerudo with the Sheikah symbol turned upside down (possibly soon to become Ganondorf perhaps? = merge with Calamity Ganon, when Calamity ganon is defeated which leads to OoT)
- Deku tree (we don't know if it's before or after OoT deku tree)
- How could the sheikahs possibly have invented all this technology to help the kingdom in OoT after link was defeated, when they were in fact banished from Hyrule at this point? It just doesn't seem to be a sequel to OoT. Sorry to say.
- Why wouldn't this be the era of prosperity? The part where ganon first attacks, it seems like the Hyrule Kingdom is flourishing like never before
- Zelda in BotW does look similar to Zelda in Skyward Sword
Hint that it is not the downfall timeline
- How could the sheikahs possibly have invented all this technology to help the kingdom in OoT after link was defeated, when they were in fact banished from Hyrule at this point?
- The castle town was already in ruins, when link tried to defeat ganon. In Breath of the Wild we see it get destroyed by Sheikah technology mostly.
Hints that it's not the Child Era timeline
- The reason Ganondorf is not succesful in the Child Timeline, is because Link warns Zelda about Ganondorf and Zelda sends Link far away from Hyrule so Ganondorf can't open the passage to the Sacred Realm.
I believe it's either in era of prosperity or somewhere after Twilight Princess (or even after FSA)
It takes place in the downfall time during the imprisoning war.
I'm convinced this is the destruction of the bond between Ganon and the Royal family while taking place far past 4 swords. It'd be closest to a sense of closure for the series I think we will see.
An HMK video on my birthday? hell yeah! Not only did I get my wish of BoTW being a launch title, but an HMK TOO :D
I would guess it's in hero fallen timeline where link is beaten, so he was put to sleep for 100 years until he could recover.
I've been with you on the placement the whole time. Although I still think after it is most likely a post-Twilight Princess and Four Swords game.
just pre-ordered the game for the switch. now I have to wait for the opportunity to pre-order the switch itself lol
I really don't know why.....I just don't want it to be in the downfall timeline.
Daron Barefoot because the Downfall timeline has 6 games to child and adults 3 each 😂😂
Daron Barefoot I really don't want it to be in the downfall either. I think it takes place in child because the producer(can't spell his name right) said that Tp has connections to BoTW, not the aimebo(did I spell it right).
+aurelio mercado (PokeShadowfan) yes, good english
Unfortunately for some of you, it'll be in the Decline timeline. A lot of evidence points in that direction, even more so, that this Link is the LoZ/AoL Link.
It can't be the Child timeline because Ganon, along with Vaati, were sealed along with the Four Sword, not with the Master Sword, in that timeline
It also can't be the Adult timeline because Ganondorf was defeated and sealed with all of Hyrule again at the end of Wind Waker, thus the ending Ganondorf's reign.
Read these facts another user posted:
Fact: Nintendo has point blankly said everything about BotW is inspired by art and a desire to return to classic Zelda roots.Fact: No other Zelda that takes place in alternate timelines have they played the classic Zelda theme music that has existed since the first game, second game, and a Link to the Past.
Fact: The black smoke is not a coincidence as it tends to harkon to Ganon's absolute corruption from the fallen timeline.
we're here, there are now officially spoilers for Breath of the Wild.
hyped about this video before even watching it!!
This is mine theory of the story and placement in the timeline:
Before A Link to the past Ganon was sealed twice. First time was shortly
after Ocarina Of Time and the second time was during the sigil war.
The Sigilwar started with people seeking the power of the sacred realm
what became a shadow world infested by the dark hearth of ganon. They
opened it and Ganon came free. The King ordered that the seven sages
must seal the sacred realm. Protected by the Knights of Hyrule they
closed the gate and defeated ganon.
Link and his companions seen in the latest trailer are those knights of
Hyrule.
Link was Knight of Hyrule before his 100 year slumber. In the Trailer
you can see, that they escape and that Zelda arrives at the Deku tree.
My Story theory: After Ganon was sealed after Ocarina of time the
Sheikah created many objects in Hyrule and it began a time in peace. To
honor the hero of time, each decade a Hero is chosen to be known as
Knight of Hyrule and to carry the Master Sword. Link became this Knight
and the protector of Zelda. Sometime later people tried to enter the
sacred realm and set Ganon free. The Sheikah tried to defeat him with
their creations but they were corrupted and started to destroy Hyrule.
The king ordered Link to rescue Zelda and both tried to escape Ganon.
Covered in mud and exhausted Zelda reveals that everything she has done
was for nothing. She says that because it was her duty to prevent Ganons
release. But she failed. Before they could escape further they were
attacked. Link was defeated and in succesion the Master-Sword lost its
power and started to rusting. Zelda screamed: "NO" and destroyed the
enemys with her magic. After the battle the kokiri which turned into
Korgs showed her the way to the deku tree. He explained that Link can be
saved. Zelda left the Master Sword at the Deku Tree to recover and
brought Link to the Shrine of resurrection. 100 years later Link awakes
and is given the task to find the seven sages to seal the sacred realm.
In his adventure he finds new friends which become the knights of
hyrule. Link defeates Ganon with the resurrected Master-Sword, he is
sealed and BotW ends. Sadly the Deku tree died because he used his
life-energy to recover the Master-Sword. After the battle Link brings
the Master-Sword back to the Woods and disappers. This explains why the
Master Sword in A Link to the past is found in the woods and not in the
Temple of time.
Reason why it is not placed in another area of the timeline:
BotW plays after Ocarina of time because it exists a rotten Temple of
time and Ganon exists.
BotW takes place in the Downfall timeline, because it cannot take place
after Twilight princes: destroyed Temple of time and not before it:
Ganondorf was busy making plans in the twilight realm. Also not before
windwaker because it was the time without a hero and not after it
because many reasons: no temple of time instead the castle was built on
top of that, the master sword is in ganondorfs head and whole hyrule is
sunken under tons of water
My reasons it plays before and not after a Link to the past:
The whole sigil war story fits too good and it explains many things, why
did the master sword changes it location, why is there no more deku
tree etc.
Also in the original legend of Zelda there is a Dead Tree as the first
dungeon. this is the Deku tree who died in BotW. Additionally the two
original games are set so late in the timeline because they are in their
own universe the timeline works well without them and when they were
made such a think as a timeline was never intended.
Well...in Skyward Sword, the symbol of the Sheikah Tribe also had a Tear 🤷🏾♂️
i've never played a zelda game before but i've always wanted to.
I think the story fits best as a kind of reimagining of a combined story of Link to the Past and Zelda 1/2. While they are different periods on the timeline, there are big story elements borrowed from each story:
A prosperous Kingdom struck down 100 years prior (Original Zelda)
An imprisoning war (Link to the Past)
A hero put to sleep for 100 years (Original Zelda, except it's Link this time instead of Zelda)
Mechanical guardians flooding Hyrule (Original Zelda)
Plus a lot of the official art from Zelda 1 and 2 are reflected in Breath of the Wild, including the main image of Link looking over Hyrule.
I say this takes place during the interloper war. The upside down sheikah mask kind of hints to that in my opinion.
I think it's either between OoT and ALttP since all of OoT's major races are in this game, or in an unflooded Hyrule after WW
I think you are right about the SS connections. Im thinking its somewhere around the Era of prosperity. I cant wait to find out!!
Zelda lookin bae doe in the game
At first your energy was to high for me so I only watched zeltik but you aree actually pretty damn cool please keep up the great work
I wasn't planning to watch due to potential spoilers I don't want, but I still wanted to give you that well deserved like man! Keep it up! Almost to that 6th digit!
I believe this is the sequel to Ocarina of Time.
any game can be a sequel to OoT.
I would honestly put this as an alternate timeline splitting from the third as if hyrule was never flooded
I still think it happens in a restored Hyrule after Wind Waker
But the location of Master Sword makes no sense whatsoever.
No, because Zelda has found a new land in Spirit Tracks which occurs 100 years later of Wind Waker.
I'm still stuck that its in the adult timeline. But Im starting to come around to the idea that it comes after twilight princess.
also. That outro track is sick as hell.
ROAD TO 100K SUBS!!!
The blue and red guy on the tapestry looks sorta like Ganon's old look.... and a stylized version of the Old Man.
What I think is that the time line split will become one timeline as a whole joining together
I think it will be in between phantom hour glass and spirit tracks as the Beginning of the land getting reestablished
The more I think about it, the more likely the name Ganon existing before Ganondorf seems to be...
it has to be in ether the Downfall Timeline or after Twilight Princess because the fact they say it's the Calamity "Ganon" meaning after the events of Ocarina of Time otherwise there'll be no knowledge of "Ganon" so your split timeline after Skyward Sword but before Ocarina of Time doesn't make since
I don't want it spoiled... but I need to know already!!!!!!!
The Sheikah always get screwed over
HMK love what you do I watch all your stuff, I was wondering how do you win the switch?
A lot of what you've said is on point apparently. I'm pretty sure Link got smoked on that first attempt and probably zelda too, and the tower of resurrection was repairing the damage up until this point or altogether bringing him back. And now Link has to restore zelda too? maybe
I still like the idea of it being a dragon break, I forgot who made that theory though.
I want it to take place after the Wind Waker.
Daniel Bertazzon It won't , No gorons, no zoras
Phantom hourglass takes place right after wind waker several weeks later
It takes a while to explain, but it makes much more sense than placing it after _Twilight Princess_.
that means the voice in the new trailer was not impa because she should be banished til the end of the game
Pokewar7 It could actually be an old Zelda since 100 years did pass
i'm just saying it's not impa
I am just saying it could be old Zelda
I'm just saying words
it could be zelda i'm talking about something different but you could be right
You make good points on your theory HMK, but i have to point this out. when i was watching the 2017 presentation trailer i got this at 2:10
"that look on your face tells me, that you have no recolection of me however"
- Great Deku Tree towards Link
The great Deku Tree never had any appearances throughout the Zelda series except for OOT & WW.
I'm just a loyal Subscriber who loves Zelda as much as the next person
I'm done -_-
honestly its so obvious that its a prequel to oot after the "links failure" timeline, summary: links fails killing ganon👉 heavely wounded hes been set for a stasis like sleep for 100 jears, he wakes up, must regain memorys...( didnt work if you the player has nothing to rememder based on nothing you experienced) and finally kills ganon, ( a link to the pasts backstory tells something about a war for decades before somewhone(link) came on stage) if you think about that the artstyle, references and characters takes more influence by games like oot(deku tree) zelda 1(link mountain scene) alttp(master sword wood) and zelda 2(sword easter egg) which are games all in the same timeline,
I think it could take place after the adventure of link in the child timeline. Hyrule is mostly separated and in the middle of reclamation. And ganons acalotes were all after links blood to revive the great beast. And did the shirks fall before skyward sword. #hype
seems like some drama is gonna go down. betrayal is definitely gonna shake the hylian royal families character.
I'm sticking with my forth timeline therapy
love you hmk
HMK keep up the good work
Although the only problem is that the Deku Tree said Link didn't remember him, so he must have had some prior contact
