  • In this video, we examine a passage that is commonly cited by proponents of baptismal regeneration. Is Jesus referring to water baptism when He says, "ye must be born again"? What does the Bible say? I pray this teaching provides clarity and dispels any confusion concerning this subject. God bless! - OD

You’re a hypocrite for real. You deleted my comments which didn’t violate any type of community guideline, yet you kept up the comments of someone calling me a clown.
Even your title to this video shows how simple minded you have to be to hold to your theological paradigm because orthodox, Coptics and some branches of Protestantism believe in water baptism.
That’s called the boogeyman fallacy brother.

I was an ardent believer in baptismal regeneration. Acts 2:38 was my John 3:16 salvation verse.
Once I came to salvation by faith alone in Christ alone I understood the act of baptism didn’t save me.
The conversion of Cornelius helped confirm my newfound faith in Christ.
He simply heard the gospel and was filled with The Holy Spirit.
Galatians says we HEAR, believe and receive The Spirit.
Thank you for your ministry of clarity!

@tomcatpurr Thank you, Brother in Christ. I was a very prideful person. I hated God so much because homosexuality was a sin. My soul craved to worship gods that wasn't the Biblical God. I worshipped in a goddess who I viewed as a mother, which I now know was demonic. It was through her that I opened a portal in my room and body. It was fine at first, but I started to be very depressed, anxious, and have panic attacks. I would wake up and feel spirits touching me and felt violated. One day, my conscious, which i believed was God warned me to come out from under these demonic spirits, or they will eventually kill me. I knew this had to be God. I opened my bible, and there was scripture about sorcery , spells, and idolatry. It was Isaiah chp .46 and chp 47. It hit me like bricks that I was committing sin. I eventually was on my knees one night ,feeling all the burdens weighing down on me and begging God to forgive me of all my sins. I felt a peace in my soul. I knew that I was saved . I trusted that only Jesus could save me. I am not perfect, but I do know that I am justified and the Holy Spirit working in me of my sanctification process. I am slowly humbled and thankful for what he has done for me.

Except that following Nicodemus's talk, Christ kept on water-baptizing with His apostles, meaning that Water Baptism wasn't at all obsolete once Christ began His ministry. The difference being that now -- through Christ's own baptism, the water became sanctified. Those who took _this_ baptism were now receiving the Holy Spirit _through_ this sacrament.
Here are the verses making this very clear:
      *Acts 2:38-41*
_“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, _*_and be baptized_*_ every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ _*_for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit._*_ For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him.’ And he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, ‘Save yourselves from this crooked generation.’ So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.”_

The born of the water is our first birth, our physical birth, and the born of the spirit is clearly referring to our second birth, our spiritual birth (born from above). This is a great biblical interpretation of baptism. Unfortunately Sam is typically interpreting scripture out of context.
He focuses on one particular verse and reads INTO it so he can get what he wants OUT of it, instead of allowing the following verses to interpret themselves.
Water baptism does NOT save anyone.
It is Christ that saves and it is by His sacrifice on the Cross that He accomplishes the victory over both objective sin and its accompanying subjective sins.
" you must be born again " this birth is by the Spirit.
This is regeneration. There is NO water here. The spiritual revelation of who Christ is, brings about regeneration.
Babies being baptised with water is NOT regeneration.

And now that my brain switch has flipped to belief in God I don’t have to do anything else. I can’t undo my new adoption into Christ. Going to church seems so religious. It’s not about what I do it’s about what Christ did. Doing religious things over and over is vain repetition. God is all knowing. He knows I am His. I’m a member of the invisible Church which is perfect since I’m an introvert. God knows my mind too. My prayer starts in my mind. I never have to even move my lips to pray because God knows my thoughts. And as soon as He sees my thought/prayer any other asking is utter unbelief. And unbelief in a believer is an oxymoron. It’s not about a religion it’s about a relationship. And a relationship happened in my brain via my ears via a man preaching. A forever relationship. That doesn’t require anything on my part but the faith part/ brain switch. If I try to love God then thats works based. Can I earn anything based on my works? Is this God’s work plus my work? No. Faith alone in Christ alone. This is not about what I do. It’s about what He has done. I’m a filthy rag with a switched brain like snow covered dung. I thank God I don’t have to look all religious and fake. I can be invisible in my invisible church. That love and prayer and posturing is an excess possible sacrilegious man made work if I don’t guard against a Pharisee mindset. Baptism is a work for the other invisible church members to see that my brain belief switch has flipped like theirs. It’s unnecessary since the thief on the cross didn’t need it. God is no respecter of persons. Is the thief better than me? Well you may say baptism is a testimony. For who? God sees my heart. To perform a purely symbolic gesture as a testimony is so ritualistic and anti faith alone. Now God wants me jumping through symbolic hoops to add to the finished work at Calvary? When I take symbolic crackers and Welch’s grape juice in my home is that for you or for me? Do you need to see me do this to prove through a ritual that I’m an adopted son? How institutional and religious are you? Symbolism is really only to remember what He did. For now my memory is good. For some of you I’ve seen you get water baptized several times. Maybe your memory is bad and need the constant affirmation through a religious act that has now become repetitious like all your other accretions. Don’t put God in your religious box, big box (churches) or small box (mindset). The Holy Spirit brings freedom.

I absolutely agree that the use of water in verse 5 does correlate to Ch 4 and the living water. I have always found it amazing that in the Gospel of John, the Apostle John had no problem using the word "baptize", "baptizest" and "baptizing" is found in Ch 1, then "baptized", "baptizing" and "baptizeth" in Ch 3. If the use of water in John 3:5 meant baptize, why wouldn't Jesus use the word baptize there? Jesus had no problem using the word in reference to the baptism of John in Matt. 21:25 and in other places.

A better question to ask is not why baptism isn’t explicitly mentioned in passages that seem to imply that “belief” is all that is required for our justification, but rather, why IS baptism mentioned in passages that tie it to our justification?
In other words, you won’t find a single passage in Sacred Scripture that mentions baptism and negates its salvific efficacy.
You will, however, find a number of passages in Sacred Scripture that tie baptism to our justification.
Lastly, in one of numerous examples, St. Paul takes it for granted that believing and being baptized are part of the same thought and action. Hence in Acts 19 he asks, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you BELIEVED?”
“No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
Then notice how in his reply, St. Paul ties belief with baptism, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
Whenever St. Paul mentions “believing in Christ,” he takes for granted that believing is tantamount to having been baptized.
And this is precisely what EVERY Christian believed prior to the “reformation.”

      *1 Peter 3:21*

The Apostle Peter taught, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38). Following Paul's conversion, Ananias said to him, “Arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins” (Acts 22:16).
In Matthew 28 Jesus said, “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” So it sounds as if Christians are expected to obey Jesus and get baptized.

To me it seems that it is intertwine, the ones that reject baptism, their faith has to be questioned.

According to the Bible, believers receive the Holy Spirit when they are born again, or when they believe in Jesus Christ as their savior. The New Testament teaches that the Holy Spirit is received immediately upon belief, and there is no need to wait or plead for it. Some say that the Holy Spirit is present in our lives at the moment of salvation

If we BELIEVE in Jesus, we must then listen and obey him. Does he not command us at the end of Matthew to go out and make disciples of all nations, BAPTIZING them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit?
For what reason would He command us to do so then if it was not vital for our salvation?

We were all born in sin and we all need the spiritual birth or being born again.. Jesus alone is the Holy One. He was baptized in order to fulfill all righteousness. Babies are never baptized but dedicated into various denominations and organizations and fellowships. . We only baptize believers. He that believes and is baptized will be saved Mark 16:15-20 Salvation is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ. Being baptized into Christ Jesus for the remission of sins always followed immediately after believing and repentance. We’re then filled with the Holy Spirit by asking Jesus to fill us with His Holy Spirit

What seems apparent to me, is that every ritual that was revealed unto men.. was given because of unbelief.
Circumcision was a sign of the Covenant..
Water Baptism is also a sign of the confession of faith.
The things that matter, are the things not seen by human eyes. Belief/faith..
Yet man, being prone to idolatry has worshipped the signs/rituals themselves, not understanding their purpose. Just as man worshipped the host of heaven instead of God.. or the celestial bodies.. the works of their hands.. or the countless other things man has chosen to trust in vainly.

Acts 10:43-48 KJV: (43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.) They received the Holy Spirit, and THEN were baptized after. This already debunks Sam Shamoun. Hope this helps someone who needs to show someone that baptism isn't required for Salvation, and may God bless you all!

Great teaching the born of water is also a Jewish expression for physical birth obviously one must first go thru the physical birth before one can then consider spiritual birth or born again. The term born again is a term Nicodemus would have understood from a Jewish Pharisaic frame of reference as Born Again in the their mindset also mean 6 things 1) When Gentiles converted to Judaism 2) When one is crowned a King 3) A Jewish boy at their Bar Mitzvah when they turn 14 4) When one is married is said to be born again 5) Ordained as a Rabbi 6) Head of a Rabbi School (Nicodemus is said to be a Ruler of the Jews). Nicodemus qualified for four of these things but not the first two, he would have gone through his list of "being Born Again" and reached a conclusion which prompted him to ask an odd question "Do I have to re-enter my mums womb again?". Another way to look at Jesus Born of Water re physical is that Jesus may have also addressed the incorrect Pharisaic theology that said and taught that all Jews born physically from the seed of Abraham would have automatic entry into the kingdom. Jesus dispels this error by saying that one must be born again meaning believing in His Son the famous John 3:16 which also stipulated that whosoever believes meaning the whosoever is not exclusive to Jews only or even their status in society but those that put their faith and belief in the Messiah Yeshua the Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus' last words to his disciples before ascending to heaven were, "Go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you"
    1 Peter 3:21
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
    Acts 8:30-36
30 So Philip ran up to it and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah. He asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ 31 He replied, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’ And he invited Philip to get in and sit beside him. 32 Now the passage of the scripture that he was reading was this:
‘Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter,
and like a lamb silent before its shearer,
so he does not open his mouth.
33 In his humiliation justice was denied him.
    Who can describe his generation?
For his life is taken away from the earth.’
34 The eunuch asked Philip, ‘About whom, may I ask you, does the prophet say this, about himself or about someone else?’ 35 Then Philip began to speak, and starting with this scripture, he proclaimed to him the good news about Jesus. 36 As they were going along the road, they came to some water; and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water! What is to prevent me from being baptized?’[a]

Water baptism absolutely does not save you. That’s a work
    Ephesians 2:8-9
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.
Believing your works can save you and taking away the entire reason Jesus came to earth in the first place Is denying Gods sacrifice to us and relying on our works to save us rather than the sacrifice Jesus made for us on the cross.
Don’t believe works save you. Works is the by product of faith it proves faith but it’s not what saves. God bless

so much wrong with this comment... do you even understand what ur saying? first of all you clearly didnt even watch the video because this guy says ur not saved by water baptism and ur saved by faith... second of all, u dont even have the gospel... u need to stop trying to falsely teach and read up. u say we aren't saved by works, and that ur saved by faith... but then u say u dont have faith unless u do works, because u said "works are the byproduct of faith" which is completely unbiblical... so therefore ur saying that ur only saved if u do works... so then ur saying that ur saved by ur own works + faith... but the bible says "if it is of grace, then is it no more of work"... ur not trusting and believing in jesus, ur trusting in yourself... u are falsely backloading works on the gospel... and if u see many unsaved deceived people do works because they trust in themselves and not jesus, and if works arent what saves u then how are works proof that ur saved? the bible says we are justified by our faith, and not by our works... what ur saying doesnt make any sense..

Baptism is not something we do it is something the Lord does for us.
The first letter of Peter mentions the event of the flood, “…in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were saved through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you...” (3:20-21).

I don’t know if what I’m saying is right. It just makes sense to me so please be kind. Baptism doesn’t save but it seems like it was a big deal to Jesus since not only he got baptized but he baptized others and taught his disciples to baptize. In any case, rationally it seems to me that when we are saved by grace we become innocent like a child. But being innocent doesn’t mean you’re righteous. No good works or baptism replace grace but it seems like Jesus wanted us to be righteous. Not just innocent.

The Bible simply doesn't say. You cannot say he wasn't, and we cannot say he was.
But regardless if he was or not.. you ought to deal with these verses if you're arguing that Baptism has nothing to do with salvation:
      *Acts 2:38-41*
_“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, _*_and be baptized_*_ every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ _*_for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit._*_ For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him.’ And he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, ‘Save yourselves from this crooked generation.’ So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.”_

Catholics teach that you must be baptised into the Catholic church to be saved. Not that Jesus saves. I have read about Catholics who couldn't understand why Jesus died and resurrected. My husband was born into Catholicism, but he's not practicing. From what he tells me about his experience as a young boy in Catholic school, kids would get caned if they couldn't tell the priests in the school, what colour robes the priest at Sunday Mass wore, because it meant they hadn't attended Sunday Mass. I believe this has made my husband Agnostic/ Atheistic. I do love Catholic people, but I hate the doctrines of their church. I pray for my husband daily for him to find God, my husband won't listen to me. He says he's jealous of people who have faith, he said he's jealous of mine. I have been married to him for 34 years. This is why I don't listen to Sam Shamoun, he converted to Catholicism and teaches the bible to include Catholic doctrine. I pray one day the scales from his eyes will be lifted and see the true teachings of Jesus Christ.

From the beginning of time God has regenerated his people through the work of the Spirit. Abraham was regenerated in the same way as believers today. In spite of this you want us to believe that God then decided to make regeneration dependent on something done with human hands, namely water baptism. No, baptism became an outward declaration of an inward spiritual regeneration.

Repentance with true contrition on a deathbed _CAN_ help the person to avoid Hell. The Church teaches it. But true repentance is difficult to attain, therefore Christ established Baptism. Here are the verses you have to deal with if you disagree with Baptism being directly tied to our salvation:
      *Acts 2:38-41*
_“And Peter said to them, ‘Repent, _*_and be baptized_*_ every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ _*_for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit._*_ For the promise is to you and to your children and to all that are far off, every one whom the Lord our God calls to him.’ And he testified with many other words and exhorted them, saying, ‘Save yourselves from this crooked generation.’ So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.”_
      *Romans 6:3-4*
_“Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”_
