- J. Cole is definitely a GOAT of this generation, along with rappers like Kendrick Lamar, and Drake. But did you know that before he really blew up, he disappointed his IDOL with ONE song... and this would haunt him for his entire career, until he admitted it in 2013.

J Cole is the man, I love his whole come up story, the transformation, all of that. 2014 was my senior year so I literally got to watch him grow through the second half of that.
Same here bro! Me and my boys were rocking to his tunes all the time, he definitely was a role model to a lot of us

2014 forest hills drive forever a classic
I'm just happy Nas wasn't rude about it
fr!
Yeah, like some were toward Em about Revival
If Jay Z couldn’t ruin Nas- I highly doubt Cole can 🤷🏽♀️
Exactly J Cole is good but he is nowhere on a level of Nas period Nas is another level of a MC
Yall are behind & stuck in the past J Cole could rap laps around Jay & Nas both
@@EL-FRIOno can not he ain’t out rapping nas 😂

I let nas down is a fantastic reflection of self. Such an amazing song
This was a really dope documentary bro. Nas is my favorite emcee of all time and J Cole is keeping real Hip-Hop alive through his lyrics. Had to sub. Salute.
thank you! spent a lot of time on this one. Respect for these takes!

Nas is my favorite MC as well, followed by Lupe fiasco, Lupe never gets credit
@@screamingeagle11b 💯💯💯
How/why could Nas be let down by “Work Out” when he had made “Oochie Wally” & “I Think You Owe Me”?! Unless he felt Cole made the same mistake.
Exactly that
Thats exactly what he explained in his reply song, he gets that radio records are needed but wanted to warn him so he doesn’t go astray with his real music
@@haadyabdul1683 Gotcha, I appreciate it. This is why more insight was asked for, I got “old man yells at the sky” vibes from the video. Instead Nas showed love from a OG perspective; been there, done it, learn from me.
@@devzeppelin listen to the remix, nas has a verse
Did you heard him saying those word or on what somebody said.
HE CAN'T DESTROY NAS REPUTATION,NEVER EVER.THATS IT
get off his dick lmao
Shut up
Big facts
For real!! Hov already did that 😂
Clickbait
Ever since I started listening to Cole, I knew instantly he wasnt just another rapper. His lyrics are so deep and he touches on stuff most are afraid to write about, especially in the rap game. "This is the part that the thugs skip!"
this was an amazing documentary bro, i can tell you have a deep love for this man and the desire you have translated so well into the video please keep pumping out content and keep inspiring 💪
The title should be changed Cause it's impossible for Cole to body Nas brother madness
Hey man I just wanted to say, i found your channel yesterday and it’s like I’ve struck gold! Your content is so professional and when you said you did this every week I was shook. You are incredibly talented and your videos are incredibly informative, interesting, and of the highest quality. Keep up the great work bro. Much love ❤️
Listening to the hardships Cole had was insane. Especially considering his status now. Great video man!
Jay z rejected him then stole his aura
Nah, they're both two totally different personalities. Not a single individual thought in the comments these days.
Social media be clowning juggling lies ,Nas is a lyrical God who said if he gets a Grammy, than his music is wrong ,salute to Nas
Could watch your videos all day, most listenable voice your the goat, of these videos, never stop bro 😃💨🤩
wow thanks, i've actually been working on this harder than you'd think 😂🔥
Solid documenting of FACTS everytime. Best channel for straight up info!!
Cole is the benchmark of the word 'Artist'
A high IQ calculated risk taker
Nah man Nah, the Nas-Cole was the single best “passing the torch” moment in rap.
Also, comeon man Nas is a legend did y’all forget who obliterated hova ?
What hova rules 😂😂- seriously Nas is the greatest
Crazy, when I was about 15 and first heard I Gave You Power in 2001, I realized just like J cole how Nas is on another level and pretty clearly the best lyricist. When the vid mentions Undying Love right after that I couldn’t help but comment literally my 2 favorite Nas songs. If I ever happen to be talking about Nas to someone I always bring up these two songs.
💯.....amazing song dawg...shootouts too....
@@jayscarz1157the shooting the locks line is fire af my favorite imagery in hip hop tbh just so cool the way he described it and they way it flows
Did u know Nas was suppose to be on J Cole's New York Times ? 😩😔
That wudda been 🔥🔥🔥
Enjoyed this documentary man! Good introspective into some of Cole's history. I gotta be honest though - I'm not fucking with the misleading title g. There's no way Cole could ever destroy or 'almost' destroy Nas' reputation. Nas was already a cemented legend long before Cole dropped that song.
Click baited and bamboozled
Another fire doc bro, keep it going! 🔥
Yes I love his videos!
Great videos, love the vibe and the editing
Tbh idk how I didn’t catch J Cole before workout because that’s when I first heard him and it was fire
Until j Cole raps a story backwards there's nothing he can do to Nas reputation
Exactly
Tf at gotta do with anything
@@qsteady2806 He's saying Nas is levels above Cole in rapping. I love J Cole and all, but you don't exactly ruin the reputation of someone like Nas. Ask Jay Z what happened when he tried...

the homie swath! thanks for being a part of the journey!
Imo nas saved coles career. If it wasn’t for nas not feeling workout. We wouldn’t have the cole we have today and he would’ve probably fizzled out trynna stay mainstream.
No one is better than nas😂
That's for sure
I feel awful for sleeping on Cole as a teenager.. he's one of the realest to ever do it.
Father and Son. I love the energy between them.
youre unique watched like 6 videos straight im hooked man lol
"Put on J coles 'warm up and let it play" Is a bar
brooo it was!
Always loved cole but never got the chance to do a deep dive into his backstory. Went to visit his old house a month ago and it felt so weird knowing an icon lived there. Hope he does a record with Em before either of them stop music.
em now is not the same thing, this would be more of a symbol than song i think
@@tigerbozoI feel what you're saying, but I also believe em could tap into that "past self" somehow - he just needs the right subject matter maybe, the proper inspiration or whatever. Lyrically new em runs circles around his old shit, but somehow his old shit just hits so much harder. More connection to the songs I guess. Even if we just get a symbol song though I would still love to hear what I think are the 2 contenders for goat on a track together. 🔥
The title made me chuckle, nas reputation bulletproof, you for real?
Great vid. However, Nas’s reputation is cemented and no one can destroy it; other than Nas himself. And even then it would have to be something really bad, like on some real life stuff not rap beefs (think R Kelly and Bill Cosby- which will NEVER happen. Nas is a good human being), his reputation is unmovable. His status is forever exalted at the highest tier.
Well said!
He will never fall from the kings disease! Goat
Well unfortunately he is abusive per Kelis. Nas was one of my favorite rappers and it really upset me to find that out. Never meet or look up your heroes
@@theycallmekeysand that’s why he has the dress on the life is good album cover. But tries to make it seem like she left him for no reason. He’s grown from that but yeah he did assault his partner at one point.
Wow. I didn’t know much about him. I will definitely check his music out.
Nas is the greatest rapper of all time. There's no debate. Nas is timeless. We all remember when we heard our first Nas song, I can't remember the first time I heard anyone else's rap song
Then you haven't listened closely enough. Nostalgia and timing is a hell of a drug.
Nas is my favourite emcee as well.
brother you put it in words perfectly. I still remember the day i first heard ether. i asked my uncle, “who is that?!” i was like 11 at the time, but it had been out for a while 😂😂😂
@T3n50r It's not nostalgia. I'm 18, grew up listening to kendrick lamar, eminem, and kanye west. I started going through all the goats catelogues (Pac, big, Nas, JayZ, Lupe Fiasco, Mf Doom etc), and I have come to the conclusion that NO ONE can touch Nas. Nas is the goat.
@@josephbooker259 Nas is one of the greats, but not the goat. His discography isn't big enough, he's been super relevant and made his mark forever for a certain time period if we should be objective about it. Compared to others unfortunately that's it. Don't get me wrong tho.
I'm big on Nas as well and always took his side in the Jay-Z vs Nas discussions. Listened through his discography more than once. Grew up listening to him, too and everyone else you mentioned along with Rakim, Wu-Tang, Rugged Man, Brotha Lynch, Grandmaster Flash, Kool Herc, DJ Shadow, Doom, Afrika Bambaata, Outkast, KRS one, Big Pun, Run DMC, Public Enemy, Hieroglyphics (Del da Funky Homosapien in particular) etc. etc.
There's just too many with history and discographies that can't label him as Goat. I'd even accept Kanye for that spot and I don't even particularly fuck with his music personally
j cole is amazing, dreamville
was an amazing idea, and his collabs with JID are just perfect

You know what's crazy... This beautiful doccie is literally the same stuff Cole raps about in Villuminati
Used to listen to workout still do on occasion but I listen to it when it first came out that fucking was a hit everybody listen to it back then crazy to see how far j Cole has come truly inspiring
Man that joint Who Dat put me on to Cole.. I knew then he would be a problem. His ability to grind and not loose focus is what makes artists like him great. That hunger never leaves.. 🫡💯 🔥🔥Documentary !!

He never got his teeth fixed. That's what crooked smile was somewhat about
good catch, i think they were worse back then tho?
@louaista could be from his outer appearance changing? They still the same
@@3nim3nimabl3I think it’s less noticeable bc he has a beard now instead of small goatee
Too deep for the intro is his best song ngl.
Love your videos
Wow this is incredibly well done. Fantastic work! I grew up on Jay z and Nas and they are the goats but Cole is the best right now
Friday Nights Lights for me personally his best work.
Such a good vid bro
Nas faced absolutely ZERO threat to his career and reputation due to J Cole’s “ let Nas Down”. You’re being crazy dramatic.
This Was A Great Video!!!
Nobody ever believed Jermain Cole would let Nas down
the goat dropped
legend
I think it’s worth talking about how nas responded respectfully and shared his thoughts in a helpful way which is something j. Cole has gone on to do for rappers coming up(lil pump interview for one) it’s obvious this is something that was impactful for who he is as a person and he acts accordingly
That’s deep. Real deep tbh.
1:01 thats jids dad lmao
The story starts around 9:00
Would bee interesting see this kinda document of King Mathers LP
what a great story!! j cole is a real one..."pac was like jesus, nas wrote the bible" story told well too, nice work Lou
The reach in this video is insane. The only person who can destroy Nas' reputation, is Nas himself.
Definitely remember that let nas down song + made nas proud song.
Decent take & perspective
It's 2024 the song ( Workout ) by J.Cole is still my favorite song from him. Shit.. I got only 11 songs on my phone. ( workout) being #2 🔥🔥🔥
Pulled up drop top backwood hot box I can’t stop playing it in my head
I hope one day I'll meet him Idc if it takes years to drop a album just makin sure he'll be okay
Born sinner is my all time favorite album.
That ASRX was a savage beast... I remember having to *individually* load sounds.
I felt this interaction between them is one of the greatest hip hop moments and Cole even presented Nas with a Vibe award after
Childs play thinking Cole can damage anything Nas related.
you pick really smart titles that get you to click and comment because you're posting an ambiguous, non click bait but irresistible titles, that are guaranteed to go over most so they'll comment how your title is wrong. Like this video could've been called "Jcole impresses nas" or some other literal title, you cracked the code brother, taking notes. Much love homie
Cole the goat
It was because coles track who dat that i even became a fan. It is criminally underrated
What's the name of the last background song that started playing at 19:24?
FYI thats Ensonic sampler at 3:09, not an 808 drum machine. Basically a budget competitor to the MPC3000. Not really on you - I just looked it up and it sounds like it was erroneously reported that his mom bought him an 808 at some point, so now it gets passed along as fact in a lot of articles, videos, forums, etc.
Nas has never been destroyed Jay Z tried n failed badly
Nas was trippin'. "Work out" is dope!
The “time and place” argument doesn’t work here because Nas said his opinion in private. Cole made it public. And No ID told Cole a convo Nas had with him in private. Nas’ sentiments was that he didn’t want the world to pigeonhole Cole and first impressions are important. Fortunately Nas was cool about it because looking back it was wack of Cole to make that song.
bro tried sneaking an mgk lyric in the title and thought we wouldnt notice
Wait, did you say Take Care was HYFR? I mean I prefer Headlines or The Motto, but wasn't the big single Marvins Room?!
Was definitely headlines lol
@@versaceboi4762 After looking this up, it's SURPRISINGLY The Motto. YOLO led to going 6x platinum.
HYFR - 2x plat
Marvins Room - 3x plat
Headlines - 4x plat
great video man as usual but i have to say this.Runaway is the best song on Bornsinner not Let Nas Down🤷♀
Brotha you took 10 minutes to get to the point of the video as advertised. It’s egregious 😂
growing up during that era where Nas dropped You Owe Me it felt very reminiscent of how it could have stalled Cole's career before it started being that Work Out was one of his first singles, and coming off how underwhelming Who Dat was. I'm glad Cole was able to become such a huge deal and it didn't affect him in the same way You Owe Me did for Nas. It seemed like Nas took a while to get back to what we knew him to be and it just makes me appreciate the Kings Disease series so much more now.
Awesome video
I've been listening to Cole for years and I always wondered what he was talking about in that song.
Ohhla was so many years ago, brought back some memories
Fans don’t understand Cole was getting no love until 2014. People was still
Sleeping on born sinners, Friday night lights, sideline story. The masses of Fans really didn’t show him love which is sad until middle child right? Crazy. Cole the truth fasho
Cole had a cult following for years prior, but it was a very large cult following there’s a reason he was grouped with Kendrick and Drake when he first hit the scene as well …there was a running internet joke for a long time that Cole was a “boring” rapper but that’s the only slight I can remember early in his career other than what’s being mentioned in this video.
IMO Cole reached another plateau and started getting the critical acclaim around 2016-2018 he had an impeccable run appearing on guest features it reminded me of Wayne’s run in 2007
"You made you owe me dog I thought that you could relate!" is the most disrespectful line of the record LMAO!
God damn this story makes me wanna cry it’s so beautiful lmao
wild cuz i discovered J.Cole from Who Dat
This is pretty much the story of j cole
Nas and J Cole squashing the beef or whatever you want to call it is super wholesome
9:34 noticed the lil Bad Bunny - Caro melody in the background, hard
Title is a REACH, more like clickbait. But loved the J. Cole video!

I thought you would mention how Cole also threw Nas under the bus during the whole kelis scandal when she said Nas hit her
