The reality of Cole is the fact that, cole fans and cole are very closely connected. My brother (homie) loves Cole to all ends cuz he feels his music deeply. He always says, Cole raps about real shit. Cole's music is always for a normal dude and teaches a normal person the values they should hold to be a good person. That's why I always felt that the big 3 are like 3 different sides raps and cannot be compared rationally. Even Biggie and 2Pac had the same. They both greatest in their own lane, Biggie for the technicality and Pac for the message and impact. Same with Nas and Jay.
Yea I agree...I've never really understood people comparing the 3 anyway. You can't, you just can't. They are all crazy different and it's like comparing apples to oranges. I've been a fan of all of em since the beginning of their careers...but I do wanna point out that I'm not a fan of "radio" Drake. I personally chose Cole because i relate to his art and music more, but respect Kdot and The Boy for their own lane that identifies them in the rap game.
I feel theoretically he could if it was to someone who he doesn't give af about, but Kendrick's his dawg. Thats why at the festival, he said "as do i" when he asked his fans if they love Kendrick. Like he still killed like tekashi 69 and shut NBA YB up when he beefed with em
he isnt the type to send shots. except he did.he recorded and mastered that ish. and when the internet clowned him suddenly "oh no my mental health and spirit!" 🤣
A lot of people saying J. Cole backed out because he was scared are being disingenuous. He just felt pressure to drop a diss track he didn't want to. He couldn't even get through an entire song without overtly making clear that he's apprehensive about dissing his boy. Also, everyone knows that, historically, at the heart of every rap beef is two niggas who absolutely can't stand each other. I don't know why folk who are trying to shit on Cole's capabilities as a rapper are being so deliberately obtuse, because even if he did go through with the beef, where was it going to go?
Where was it going to go? Kendrick would have brought out the skeletons we don't know about Cole. And he would have destroyed him just like he did Drake. Cole would have maybe put up a better fight if his heart was in it. But it wasn't. I don't think Cole did anything wrong he made the best decision for himself.
What I’ve realized with most people is they, in covert ways, walk around with a “lie to me!” mentality. They really do. Just like that track didn’t sit right with him, it didn’t sit right with me either. It’s felt sooo weird and forced bc I was like “not THESE two, NO”. Man what would they even have to beef over? I felt like I was a teacher and my 2 brightest students started beefing with each other, when they were just fine with each other before knowing details of their test scores lol. But he owned up to it, and that’s that.
I’d say that he initially did want to make the diss, and the reason why he suddenly switched up was because that he was warned. Warned that things with Kendrick and Drake would go south. And while he did express some hesitation on 7 Minute Drill, he also said some things to suggest “Hey, if this is what I have to do, fuck it, I’m locked in”. And since the person who gave him the warning is none other than ScHoolboy Q, I firmly believe it was Kendrick who sent him to decline the battle, which to me is what really makes Cole’s hate train disingenuous. It’s impossible for him to lose a battle his opponent declined.
@@Lucifer_isthereal_god What skeletons? An artist as big as Cole would've had those skeletons out years ago. The real reason why Kendrick won that beef was because Drake had very obvious, public issues and controversies and Dot simply shoved them back down Drake's throat. Cole, just like Kendrick, doesn't have that many controversies outside of saying a thing or two in a song that made people mad for a week. What killed Drake was him eliminating any credibility to his diss tracks by making up stories about Kendrick's family. Kendrick didn't reveal anything we didn't already know or suspect about Drake, which isn't to take anything away from him because he masterfully pestered him with these condemnations. He wouldn't have had such an advantage with Cole, if he did, it would have to be some incriminating information and if it's that bad, people are gonna question why Kendrick was sitting on that kind of information.

Out of the ‘Big Three’, it feels like Cole has the most potential to evolve as he ages to me. Kendrick and Drake are crowded by their legacies, for better or worse; as good as they are, Cole is better off finding his own insights and maturing that way. Out of the three, he’s the most stable and in touch with himself. I look forward to seeing what he takes away from the aftermath of the Kendrick/Drake beef. He doesn’t need Drake or Kendrick to back him up- he’s an artist in his own right.
This sounds true but isn't. Saying Kendrick isn't stable or in touch with himself is just false when the guy pops out when he wants to then goes on with his life
@@calvinchaba I didn’t mean Kendrick was unstable, I just think he’s a little less stable than Cole is. Kendrick dealt with a lot of trauma as a kid and has spent years trying to iron out all that pain he has in him. Kendrick sometimes lashes out at people when mostly unprovoked, which is what started the whole Kendrick/Drake beef in the first place. Cole is a normal dude with a pretty sturdy background in comparison. That’s his appeal to me. Kendrick can and will lash out at other artists if he feels challenged, but Cole usually responds calmly or lets that shit fly. He’s more stable.
@@dreguthrie4502 Nah, it was not unprovoked. "but a rapper with a ghostwriter/what the fuck happened?" in context is right after the Drake/Meek feud where Meek alleged (correctly, mind you) that Drake has ghostwriters. I think what hurt cole the most is the perception of his recent work. Recent Years Cole has arguably been at his best, him even saying he was No.1 currently and with Drake releasing Subpar music and Kendrick’s Absence This was really the one time where Cole had the “crown” over Drake and DOT in alot of people’s eyes I think… Then Kendrick came back and snatched it without much fight from Cole and i feel like everyone else was like “Well Damn, He’s not the best”.

I hate when people act like Coke doesn’t even come close to Kendrick Lamar on a storytelling front. Listen to Once an Addict Interlude, or the entirety of 4YEO
Cole realized it just doesn’t sit right going after someone who he’s truly friends with. They’ve never had any issues ever. Drake and Kendrick is personal.
Based on what they represent and how they approach their music and goals behind the music, they equal 3 legends from the past. Drake is the equivalent to Michael Jackson, Kendrick is the equivalent to Prince, and Cole is the equivalent to Bob Marley. Drake makes the more popular music, Kendrick makes music to express himself and the result of it follows, and Cole makes music that contributes to the spirit and expressing love and peace through it. All equally important and have different impacts on a person depending on the person or the what they’re going through at the time.
Ive liked Jcole .. now I wish i can be like him and live in his example. . . the amount of character and willpower it takes to take a L on a rap beef and apologies in order to keep true to one self is an examplary act
Im sure Cole is doing deliberate things to make it appear he is falling off. I mean, his upcoming album is literally called “The Fall Off”. Im sure he will not disappoint
So basically, Cole quit the beef...and ultimately won out personally. So much for "never giving up"....because...sometimes it's better to do that (turn around away from a destructive path) than stay the course. 😊
I dont think anyone has a problem with Cole not wanting to be part of the beef as it was not personal for him. The problem was apologizing to Kendrick as if he was his Dad.

What you said about j.cole being the everyman is true, you may find his music boring but for me i can relate to alot of the things he raps about, like a big brother opening up to you about his mistakes and trying to teach you a lesson with his life. Not all of it is bops or culture shaking, but when you relate to one of his songs and you can feel him talking about something youre going through at the moment it hits you like a truck. Let me ask anyone who sees this this question: why should Cole have stayed in the beef and risk worsening his image (whether it be through GOAT status or personal allegations) when a large portion of the hip-hop community has been punching down on him since at least 2016?
I’m with you. Cole is a legend in his own right. He has captured the hearts of a generation. When he’s on fire, his bars are unmatched. He will carry on in Cole fashion, and there will always be people who want to count him out. It’s a shame he got caught up in the beef. It’s K Dot’s time to shine right now. He laid down that whoopin, and used his victory lap to unite warring factions in his home town, as he should. He’s gotta have his moment. J Cole will have many more moments. He was right to back out of a very personal, ugly battle.
I know a lot of people talked shit about Cole backing out, but I thought he was smart. He had no dog in this fight, got dragged in, realized he didn’t have any reason to create enemies when all that was there was friends and removed himself from the beef. It was a smart move on his part for sure
I dig this. Cole is like literally in the middle but he had always maintained that image of being the "person" rather than the "rapper". It's how I became a fan honestly. Cole is personal and spiritual. Kendrick and Drake are wearing opposites as there images. Kendrick embraces his past and wear it on his sleeves but with Drake it's like he become a completely different person 🤔.
It’s very true he probably struggled with the internal battle of wanting to be recognised as one of the best to ever do it and his overall view of his morals and what’s right to him which he ended up taking the moral route which I respect. Stood on his principles not his ego
Exactly bro... that project is classical. I'm not sure if others haven't listened to it well enough but to call the album mid or just ok is diabolical.
Okay let me tell my point of view on this beef. Kendrick and Cole have a long history as friends, Cole and Drake too. So what i see is that Kendrick took his chance to once and for all get over Cole as Greatest without a doubt. For Kendrick it was a chance to hit both Drake and Cole, Two birds with one stone. Kendrick would never get a leverage on Cole because Cole is clean on all sides. Literaly a person with no weakness. And Kendrick somehow saw a gap in that perfect defense by connecting him to Drake. Even if you think it was only bad for Drake, Cole's image as a possible goat is destroyed by this move. Truly a check and mate by Kendrick. The only way Cole has a chance to be in the goat coversation is to drop an undisputed classic hip hop album that overshadows his connection with Drake. The Fall Off will be the deciding album of his career. Will he stay as a legend that never reached goat status or a new gen GOAT that defines his generation.
I 90% agree with your analysis!! However, Kendrick made a fatal error-he did NOT take the body shot Cole offered with his “apology”. Therefore, he left the door open for the lyrical competition with Cole we have been looking for. IMHO, Kendrick can absolutely claim victory from this beef with Drake and all of the accolades that accompany that win, BUT until his pen is challenged by the only other rapper that has been deemed to go against him, he can’t be called GOAT-just yet. @themonarch620
The man has made some of the best, most thought-provoking albums of this generation, won a historic beef, and used that opportunity to hold a peaceful coalition of every warring faction of LA gang culture. He went home to Compton yesterday to allow anyone who lived there to take part in his music video. He’s legendary. Glazing is only natural. J Cole is a legend in his own right. I don’t think there’s another artist in hip hop that touches my heart as much. It’s just K Dot’s moment right now, and that’s ok. As for Drake…I’m sure he’ll dust himself off and start making party songs again. He’s just going to have a limp from that ass whooping.
The way I see it, J Cole's legacy remains the same. A lot of people incl influencers and other rappers / singers eventually realized that he actually did the right thing, and that he actually won on his own terms. My only gripe is... How and why the heck did he have to do that Grippy afterwards? 😂
As a hardcore J cole fan, I knew he would back out after he released the diss mixtape. His heart wasn't in it. Having followed his journey, I knew this was not a path for him to talk. He's different.
Last night Drake was a surprise guest at Limp Bizkit’s concert in Toronto and he was booed off the stage. Jay Cole won big time a smart brother that swallowed his pride for all the right reasons and showed the world that he has a moral compass much respect Cole!!!
MDL was not made to capitalize off of 7 minute drill. You have no clue what you’re talking about. That mixtape was being worked on by Cole for months, he was releasing vlog type videos to his socials. If anything, that diss didn’t even belong on the mixtape. If being authentic makes you last, then hiphop lost its soul.
The casuals that say "but how come it's not cowardly that he stepped aside from the beef if he's been rapping about being the best for his entire career??" are so blinded.
No, they have a point. He constantly rapped about being able to smoke a rapper, then he backed out at the first sign of smoke. How can you defend that?
you're such a sensasionalist. You out here thinking you're changing the world with your elocuence, but you're just discussin a big3 fabricated topic for bored people. They dont compete, its much more simple, they just make music, its not about winning or losing
I agree. Considering how things have escalated now, J Cole is the one laughing. Sure, he may have made some corny Drake style songs on his new album but he's winning. That is what I call a strong minded man. He did not give in to peer pressure and ADMITTED that this wasn't something he was comfortable doing, especially to someone he personally knows. Drake is now having his yard shot up, his stores vandalised and is being labelled a child sex offender by the general public. I can't recall I have seen anyone getting this torn up by a rap beef since 50 Cent did Ja Rule.
Anyone who thinks J Cole doesn't have a classic album never listened to Born Sinner and we all know Friday Night Lights should've been his debut album. Not having as many No.1 hits is irrelevant, a lot of rappers with hits have no fucking reason to be as popular as they are
True dat. But it’s still mind boggling he doesn’t have more # 1’s and awards accredited to him. Also absolutely crazy JID’s Forever Story was not AOTY. I just don’t get this industry.
The only winning move for Cole was not to play. J.Cole would have probably been have been forgotten in this three way rap battle with how much hatred Kendrick was throwing at Drake's way lmao.
im sorry, but you can't take away an entire mans career just because he did what was right. he has been one of the realest artists in history. talented as well. a youtube video won't change that as he won the hearts of many

@@timhargrow I'd love to hear why they think that too. If I had to guess the bad blood of Cole leaving Drake in the beef alone may boil to a point where Drake does things to actively fuck over Cole and his career (as best he can, Cole's career is too big to really be hurt behind the scenes from another artist).
Man you got the shit right
Yea I agree...I've never really understood people comparing the 3 anyway. You can't, you just can't. They are all crazy different and it's like comparing apples to oranges. I've been a fan of all of em since the beginning of their careers...but I do wanna point out that I'm not a fan of "radio" Drake. I'm a fan of the timestamp records Drake, the IYRTITL, Nothing was the same album, Take Care album and so on. The most recent shxt he's done, im not really diggin it, but it's all good because music is subjective. Some people will love certain shxt and some wont.

Cole is too intelligent for senseless beefs he rather see everyone progress towards success yet most of society focus on drama as usual
and yet he recorded a diss towards kendrick hmmmmm
Getting the bloods and crips to come out together is progress. What the fuck are you talking about
@@alphavegas1 They are Drake fans pretending to be Cole fans, why do you think he didn´t respond?😂
@@zandisiwetayi9977 an artist as big as Cole? You mean like Drake? "I'm too famous"
I'm not saying he for sure does I was just making a statement.
Edit: and yes Cole did dodge a bullet. Kendrick would have destroyed him just like he did Drake.
@dreguthrie4502 that makes more sense but Drake started all this beef . He been dissing everyone including Kenny
@@dreguthrie4502 Nah, it was not unprovoked. Drake and Kenny have been taking subliminal (or, I guess, sometimes not so subliminal) shots at one another for years, this is just the most visible and direct it's been. I mean, shit, that line on King Kunta... "but a rapper with a ghostwriter/what the fuck happened?" in context is right after the Drake/Meek feud where Meek alleged (correctly, mind you) that Drake has ghostwriters. Then there's all the subliminals that Drake has thrown Dot's way over the years.

All equally important and have different impacts on a person depending on the person or the what they’re going through at the time.
might delete later is an amazing body of work.

Cole has nothing to prove. If you know Cole and are a big fan you understood immediately why he pulled out the beef.
@@JohnWickPotter Yes bro, exactly
I know a lot of people talked shit about Cole backing out, but I thought he was smart. He had no dog in this fight, got dragged in, realized he didn’t have any reason to create enemies when all that was there was friends and removed himself from the beef. It was a smart move on his part for sure
J.cole is a humble soul a brilliant artist a super dope MC and still a g.o.a.t fuck what Anthony says.
I was one of the few people, I feel, that had no issues when Cole initially backed out of the beef. I respected him for it and immediately understood.
Cole out here enjoyin his life making good choices. bro 100% won in all this.
On god
do you research, might delete later had been teased for weeks before the beef started, wasn’t “thrown together” had been planned prior 😂
It’s very true he probably struggled with the internal battle of wanting to be recognised as one of the best to ever do it and his overall view of his morals and what’s right to him which he ended up taking the moral route which I respect. Stood on his principles not his ego
The might delete laterproject was ironically one of the albums of the year in my opinion
nah honestly as a cole fan it was kinda scattered if it had a few more weeks it coulda been better
Exactly bro... that project is classical. I'm not sure if others haven't listened to it well enough but to call the album mid or just ok is diabolical.
This man just said the project "Might Delete Later" was ok at best. That project should be considered a classic. I'm DONE‼️
@themonarch620
the kendrick glazing during his introduction is crazy lmao
Doesn’t have a classic album? Do the critics not listen to his music??
A great album doesn't mean it's a classic and a classic album doesn't mean it's great. JID last album was exceptional, but it wasn't a classic.
A classic has to shift the culture permanently. Cole did not do that with any of his albums, no matter how good they were
