Yess Rezero was the first anime that made me genuinely almost cried when Subaru was possessed by betelguese at the forest and then has to be killed by Julius and Felix that scene made me damn tear up and the echidona confession made me re experience that my god Rezero is my no.1 anime for 2020 for now

@@ymw1107 I like how Arc 5 lulls you into thinking Subaru is going to make good on his resolution to minimize his deaths by having him only die a few times and then basically 100% the arc, only for Arc 6 to hit and lead to a higher and more gruesome death count than any arc so far.
Ironically, Subaru developed a complex over everyone comparing him to his father, but when I first saw the dude, all I could think was "Yep, that's Subaru's dad."

the audience, to some extent, is like the characters from Lugunica: We only saw Natsuki Subaru as Natsuki Subaru. We didnt compare Subaru to anyone else. At the start we were indirectly encouraging Subaru to be himself and we didnt realize it. (S2E4: "They dont see me as Kenichi's son, they see me as Subaru.")
I’m surprised there wasn’t a win for my all time favorite Ram line: “I’m perfectly lovable. If I were more lovable, the world would be in danger” 😂 Idk why I just find it so hilarious, especially with her monotone delivery, but maybe I’m the only one. (It’s when she’s talking to Fredericka about her tea making skills in the mansion btw)
Some people probably don’t like Re:Zero for a variety of things. The lack of over the top shounen fight scenes, the main character being “dumb” compared to other anime main characters, some people say that the only reason why the anime is popular is because of the cute waifus and that the characters are 2 dimensional at face value. The people who don’t like the anime for these reasons do understand what Re:Zero is, but they do NOT *understand* what *Re:Zero* is. Re:Zero is about character development. Re:Zero is about deeply hidden and woven together world building. Re:Zero isn’t about a mildly flawed character learning and saving the day, it is about a heavily flawed character learning how to love himself, wanting and trying to save the people he cares about in the process. Re:Zero isn’t about a character who suffers a lot just to get “the girl that he wants because of haha horny”. Re:Zero is studying a character with flaws growing as a result of that suffering plus the help he receives from people around him. The reason why Subaru is so infatuated by Emilia is because she is the first person who has decided to help him out of the kindness of their heart. You could argue and point towards Subaru’s parents, but the thing about that is that Subaru doesn’t realize the unconditional love his parents have him before and during Season 1. At least, not until Echidna lets Subaru “see” his parents again. It was probably that way because of how everybody around him expected high things of Subaru because of his father. The majority of the people who don’t like Re:Zero either came into the series with skewed expectations as a result of people around them singing false praises, they didn’t pay attention to what the anime is actually trying to say, or maybe even a mix of both. If Re:Zero isn’t an anime about Subaru overcoming his massive flaws then explain why there are multiple web novels written by the mangaka online that detail alternate stories of Subaru’s life if he had made a bad choice in the original story? The mangaka wouldn’t put much thought writing something like that if the main focus of the show was, for example, “saving the day for the damsel in distress”.

Re:Zero made me watch Monogatari Series a long time ago and finished it way back 2018, that's because it also made me realize not every fight scenes makes an Anime great
If we were in the same room I would have applaud you right there and then. I follow some reactors here on RUclips that don't seem to understand this, and they just finish part one of season one. It is incredibly annoying that people don't seem to grasp that Re: Zero is about the drama and the journey of self love and kindness that Subaru needs. RE: Zero is an amazing anime, and I can't wait for more to come.

Win 19: the light novel basically has the same thing- that 'side story' mentioned is one of several 'what if' scenarios wherein Subaru chooses differently or events proceed another way, each theme -of course- after the 7 dealt sins. This side story is sloth- subaru choosing to settle for saving just rem from the witch cult's plans rather than anybody else due to the immense and seemingly insurmountable effort it would take to do that, unlike he does in the main story, and the light novel includes that as a prelude chapter/dream rem's having before the attack on the caravan win 27: actually, a LOT of people would be looking at that exact knife in that scene- the anime altered Subaru's initial suicide to save rem quite a bit- he basically used that knife there to slit his throat and restart, except he found out that the 'save point' had updated to THAT exact moment- he 'woke up' again in front of a comatose Rem on the bed Win 33: actually, in the light novel, wilhelm himself confesses to more personal motives to wanting to continue the alliance, with less to do with liking subaru himself, and rather more to do with his issues pertaining to his deceased wife. Theresa had a divine 'blessing of the reaper' which causes wounds she inflicted to never heal, adding to her deadliness on the battlefield as a sword saint. During a previous argument with wilhelm, she lightly injured his shoulder to prove a point during a sword fight over whether or not she should join the hunt for the white whale. At some point during the aftermath of killing the whale, Wilhelm realised that his old wound has reopened- not to an extent that blood loss would threaten his life, but rather that the effect of the blessing was active again. The closer one is in proximity to the one who dealt their unsealable wound, the worse the injury gets- which indicates to wilhelm that his wife might not actually be dead- which kinda should have been obvious in hindsight since he still remembered her, indicating the erasure effects of the while whale weren't responsible for her death. Regardless, the only clue wilhelm has is that the witch cult was likely involved with whatever happened to her, and since the cult will focus on emilia due to her half-elf nature, continuing the alliance will let him cross paths with them again. It does demonstrate a change in his character, certainly, but that's due to the events that subaru brought about, so it's not like subaru wasn't able to prevent the alliance being dissolved in spite of his efforts thus far win 97: the reveal that Roswall actually knows, to some extent, about subaru's looping ability actually retroactively doubles the win for this one, because, yes, as you said, it was a horrible idea from subaru's and our perspective.. because we got to see the end result where subaru didn't achieve his 'golden ending' and had to restart. From Roswall and everyone else's perspective, subaru successfully created an alliance to kill the white whale and then the sin archbishop of sloth with as minimal casualties as possible, and basically no civilian casualties. it's horrific when looking at it from an outside perspective, but the knowledge that he's basically relying upon the 'invincible' nature of return by death to redo events as many times as he needs to to achieve the best ending makes it a kind of warped brilliance. his contingency plan basically boiled down to leaving things to subaru to deal with...and it worked 100%. it's why he claims that he had faith in Subaru- they very fact that he's able to speak to him about being so irresponsible during those events shows that subaru managed to find the kind of inner strength Roswall wanted him to develop over the course of the 'trial' he allowed the witch cult to proceed with win 99: indeed, the fact that roswall is actually trying to force the trial to be all about Subaru in the end to better mould him and emilia into fitting with his desired outcome is seen as a villainous com come can also be seen as a win, because subaru may be the hero of the story, but he's not the only one it should revolve around win 119: actually, subaru is saying all that to Beatrice because it was in the original light novel, and he's worried that the same thing that happened to him with his altered suicide attempt might happen again the ned time he dies- namely that his 'save point' updates to past a point where he can't save people anymore. basically, subaru is constantly worried for the first few loops of this arc that the same thing might happen again, and he could wake up in a world where he can no longer save those who have died. Its what informs his decisions to kill himself asap whenever he reaches a 'bad outcome' no matter how warped and selfish his actions appears to others, especially those who died trying to preserve his life the first few times. the only reason he doesn't;t immediately kill himself is usually out of a desire to find out more information before he has to loop again, or something else kills him. win 125: subaru is actually referring to how garfiel's actions, reactions and intentions keep altering time and time again each loop he's in, meaning his actions don't conform to any set pattern he can predict and utilise to get him on his side next time around win 128: additionally, every time subaru resets during a loop his 'witch smell' grows stronger, not only when he comes close to breaking the taboo about speaking of RBD, so that further complicates his interactions with people who can smell it on him win 133: additionally, this comes right on the heels of Subaru being told by beatrice that all their interactions together were basically lies on her behalf, and she felt nothing for him, as well as Garfiel betraying him, so subaru really, honestly needed an actual friend at this point to help stabilise his mind win 175: minor spoilers i think i need to reveal, but since this is something that happens in a 'dead' loop and subaru isn't likely to revisit it in his thoughts going forward- that isn't actually Satella. Her 'actual' reveal comes around in ep 13 when subaru is leaving the witches' tea Party. Rather, its Satella possessing the emotionally shattered Emillia's body, brought about as penance for Subaru breaking the taboo and speaking about RBD with Echnidia. She couldn't punish Echnidia the same way as she did with emilia in season 1, but she still found a way to punish subaru for his hubris in speaking about the forbidden subject win 176: following on from that, even if Subaru himself 'knows' it wasn't really Emilla, that doesn't mean he wasn't emotionally affected dying to a creature that wore her face at the time win 183: subaru is pointing out the logical fallacy between beatrice's natural and emotional reactions and her claims that the all-knowing book is responsible for every interaction and enjoyable moment they've shared together. If the book was 'really' all-knowing and omnipotent as Beatrice claims, then nothing he says or does should take her off-guard, but the fact that he can, and indeed has done several times before shows that the book's supposed power, and thus the main reason she claims it's impossible for her to go with him, isn't as immutable and absolute as she claims, meaning she has no real reason to refuse his requests using that as an excuse win 190: yep, it really is emilia, and the fact that she broke not out of some supernatural twist or monster affecting her, but rather the circumstances both of them find themselves in is what makes her current state so dark. Just like the great rabbit's approach is an inevitability, if Subaru cannot resolve the problems in the mansion and the sanctuary then Emilia 'will' break from the strain just as assuredly win 196: and now subaru actually has incentive not to rely upon return by death so much to resolve his problems, knowing it's possible that he could end up creating another world of breathed friends and loved ones each time he dies, especially if it's suicide. the possibility id horrific, but also something he 'needs' to keep in mind, given how he was determined to use RBD again and again win 204: actually, the only one trying to make a contract with Subaru is echnidia. The rest are just trying to force her to stop being so manipulative for once and shoot straight with Subaru about her actual intentions, so he knows full well the consequences and outcomes of accepting her deal before he takes it
Quick detail that's super subtle, but total genius: Roswal and Echidna are essential twisted versions of Subaru's parents. Daddy Natsuki was cool with Subaru being his own person even if that meant being different from him and his mom was okay with stepping aside and letting him figure things out on his own. Compare that to Roswal being manipulative and abusive and Echidna offering to micro-manage Subaru's very existence. - BTW There's actually a What If story outlining what it would have looked like if Subaru actually did take Echidna's deal. You might want to wait until the rest of season 2 since I don't know what spoilers might be involved, but thought you should know.
You know i feel like subaru is being how should i say it maybe tempered would be most suitable while his character development is massive it's obvious that he subtly but surely falling to insanity even his breakdowns though at the end he gets encouraged back on his feet (didn't find a better away to express what i meant) he's still damaged no one remembers his pain other than him he lived and died countless times so i think that subaro is being readied for something big
So, for those who want to make the rabbit scene even worse, here is the obligatory Light Novel excert: With endless questions, Subaru looked over his surroundings, confused, trying to see if there were other animals besides this rabbit that had wandered back into the Sanctuary. And, with no particular intention, he reached out his hand towards the rabbit, hoping to confirm what it was, or perhaps just wanting to pet its fur―― [Subaru: ――――] The next moment, Subaru’s entire left hand was detached from his wrist upwards. Blood sprayed out from the ragged, sloppy wound, and green-blue veins dangled from the stump. Were the thin, white strings tendons or nerves? Either way, it’s always something grotesque when human body parts are destroyed―― and those, were his few seconds of escape from reality. Pain of an entirely other dimension trashed at Subaru’s brain, and, suffocating from the agony, his body collapsed to the ground. The branch that pierced his collarbone snapped in half upon impact, transforming into shattering pain. Pain, pain, pain. [Subaru: Ggha!? Aa,uaghaa! Aaauu, uuuuaaAAAA,AAAAAAAGHAAAAAAAAA!!] His thoughts turned white-hot. It hurts. With the unamusing shock of sharp, merciless blades scraping his flesh to the bone, he turned up the whites of his eyes as white foam gushed from the back of his throat. If only he could lay down his head and faint, but the intensity of the agony had no intention of releasing his consciousness. Bubbling blood spilled from the corner of his lips, and he writhed like a fish on land. The fact that his ears could still hear, must be both a miracle and a joke by a cruel God. Like the rustle of lapping waves, the sound captured Subaru’s eardrums. Little hops. Small, tiny bodies. The chain of overlapping chirps expanded to enormity, and even if his vision were still present, he had no desire to count them. He shrieked. And a surge pushed him onto his back as his throat trembled. Immediately, furry creatures dived into his opened mouth. His tongue was torn to shreds, sharp teeth flashed across the depths of his throat, ravaging everything from his esophagus to his stomach. Inside, they collided with the others that had invaded from his rectum, and, as if descending into a competition, they devoured his organs left and right, turning Natsuki Subaru into minced feed. It was the unmistakable sensation of being alive while living creatures shredded him from within. Fear had already left him. There was barely any more pain. He couldn’t understand why he was still conscious. He was being eaten. He was being eaten. His left eye was gouged out. His ears were no longer there. His organs had already been consumed, and now the skin of his face was being peeled off. A hole opened in his skull, and teeth sank into his exposed, bulging brain――
Re: Zero is a masterpiece and Nagatsuki Tappei is an absolutely incredible author being able to write up such a story nice and tightly, with neither loose ends or unnecessary leftovers. It's filled with interesting and complex characters which goes for their relationships as well, and all of these developing and changing throughout the story. You may have said the "may end up bigger than Lord of the Rings" thing as a jest, but arc 4 in itself, which the second season is based off, is in fact in its written form longer than the trilogy, and that is but one arc of a total of 11 that are planned. Suffice to say that I'm super excited to get to see the second half of the season in a few weeks and hopefully the rest of the story too eventually.
I'm really excited because the author said that there are going to be 11 arcs and that the last arc is going to be the longest in the series, if we consider that Arc 4 Web Novel is 145 chapters long, and 6 volumes of the LN, i hope that he has no volume limit because that way he can create a good ending for the series without it feeling rushed, because imagine that arc 11 is 200-300 chapters long, you can't adapt that huge amount of content in just 6 volumes without cutting off most of what happens during the last arc.
win 104: Ram remembers because it was an event from the current timeline, but It's strange for her because the reason she was thrown as a decoy was Rem.... who doesn't exist, so she doesn't understand why
I saw Re:Zero wins; I clicked. And what's really funny is the butterflies in Beatrice's irises was a gigantic spoiler from the first day we met her - we just didn't know it until now.
Honestly, the scene with Subaru being able to tell Echidna about his Return by Death and being understood by her was the most cathartic moment of this entire series so far.
She didn't really understand him or his feelings, it was all an act, i'm not denying how important that was for Subaru but still she didn't do it out of the kindness of her heart, she was just baiting him to make a contract and she want to exploit his ability (RBD) for her greed, she's a good character but i don't like her pirsonality, i mean she's a witch after all
28:20 Actually, Ram had a recollection of a memory that happened in the very same timeline. The reason she felt so odd about it was due to Rem's heavy involvement with that memory, since Rem was erased from everyone's memories.
Forget the rotating scene and no CGI during Echidna's monologue, I would've given her 5 wins for her voice actress doing that in one take! Extremely impressive performance!
This half of the season was so good I couldn’t even pick a favorite part but it’s between him finally being able to get return by death off his chest or the kiss of death or Reinhard showing he’s the true MC there’s to many to pick from... also I’m sad you didn’t win Garfiels love for ram trying to save her while getting ready to fight with that ends with that brutal kick leading to the craziness of Roswall knowing suburu can restart but nothing knowing how to cause it perfection
If you want a connection to the movie, how about this one. I'm 90% sure the VA for Echidna is the same one as the narrator for Puck's contract. Which, if true, has a lot of implications.
25:20 that was teased in the directors cut with his nightly chat with Ram when he mentioned something along the lines of “I will break the deal with the ancient dragon by any means necessary”
I would have added another Win to the reveal that, whenever Satella said "Aishite" (which roughly means "to love", with context determining the subject) never actually meant him loving *her*, but actually her asking him to love *himself*. Incredibly clever use of context-sensitive trickery in the Japanese language. It makes that scene where Subaru bite his own tongue while in Satella's grasp actually even sadder and explains the face she makes there very well.
6:30 that knife is actually brilliant, if you've ever seen an object this detailed in a scene you assume it's going to be used for something, and knowing re:zero probably violent. It just made me feel so uneasy whilst watching the scene, really added to the atmosphere.
Love the video! One thing though, the author of Re:Zero isn’t a mangaka, Re:Zero started as a web novel, then turned into a light novel, then manga and anime. Just thought that small correction was worth pointing out

In 17:30 you mistook ram for rem Also at 28:34 ram didn't remember something of another timeline she allmost remembered an event that enclude rem because now that everyone's memory of her is gone everyone thinks subaru defeated the mabeasts alone and ram doesn't remember getting involved
Ram wasn't recalling a memory from a time loop she hadn't experienced. She was almost recalling one that should have been erased because of its explicit connection to Rem. Still an amazing video, and always fun to watch you gush about Re:Zero.
@@AnimeWins What I mean is that the moment that Subaru threw Ram is still part of the timeline. It wasn't part of a previous loop that was left through Return By Death. It is part of his 'successful' timeline. The memory was removed from Ram because of the power of Gluttony. So while the event still actually did happen to her, her memory was rewritten when Rem was "devoured" to create a version of her past in her mind that never included Rem. So she was recalling an event that did actually happen to her, but was purged from her mind rather than being a result of Return by Death's timeline jumping.
You asked for the music in the comments at 33:41, but the song is called "Whereabouts of the Past". One of the hardest hitting songs in the series. Also a fun fact at 43:10, the scene where Subaru is telling Echidona about his ability to RBD, Yuusuke Kobayashi (the VA of Subaru) actually cried during the recording of that scene, so the voice breaking and tears from that scene were legit.

I had never read a Light Novel in my life, but Re Zero's second season made me do it. And just when I thought LN couldn't be better, I started reading Web Novels and they literally can surpass LOTR lore. But this season was so freaking epic, it made me put Re Zero in my top 10 anime of all time, which can truly become top 5 considering how the events are going on in WNs get animated in the future. And this was another great video!

If I recall correctly, the reason Subaru can find Beako so easily is because he has an incredibly high affinity with spirits. Julius mentioned it in season 1 when he used Nect and Subaru was put in pain. As for why Sekhmet looks like the Witch of Lust instead of Sloth, my personal headcanon is that she's too lazy to wear lots of clothing (more weight=more energy to move). The author (not mangaka, Rezero started as a light novel), once wrote that she only barely has the energy to breathe.
I believe you forgot to mention the lenght of episodes as a win. They even skipped COMMERCIALS a few times so that they could save the pacing of the story and add scenes. 100 % win!
49:40 Satella actually took over Emilia's body after Subaru told Echidna about RbD. So he was understandably scared that he has lost Emilia forever (like he believes to have screwed up with Rem) and he is extremely frightened to wake Emilia up because it is possible to be Satella all over again with no way of retrieving Emilia back. Hints for Satella taking over Emilia can be seen by the fact that Emilia's body is nowhere to be found besides Subaru and the shadows haven't reached the Trial room yet or Subaru would have already been swallowed (in Season 1 Petelgeuse even mentions multiple times that Emilia is a vessel for Satella to inhabit)
42:38 No no. I agree with you 100% on this. Subaru’s breakdowns haven’t been much help, but THIS ONE was 100% NECESSARY. This man has been forced to lie to everyone he knows and loves in this world about the fact that he’s sacrificed so much JUST to get to where he is, JUST to get to an ending where everyone’s happy, and when he DOES say something, DISASTER IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED. This breakdown was something Subaru desperately needed as I can guarantee that if he went the entire series without telling a soul, THIS VERY THING would’ve been the source of a greater and WORSE breakdown down the road. So yes, it was very refreshing to finally get a moment where he could finally explain his powers fully without the risk of someone getting hurt just because he had to get it off his chest. Just because he didn’t want to suffer a burden that big alone.
The detailed knife in the bedroom next to Subaru, was a notch to the web/light novel readers. Because Subaru killed himself multiple times in front on that bed with exactly that knife, just to find out again and again, that his new checkpoint was in front of that same bed. They replaced that sequence with the one in front of the mansion.
I have read the web novels and what I loved the most about this season was that every single character gets MAJOR character development, that includes Beatrice, Garfield, Otto, Ram, Roswaal, Emilia, Lewes-sans, Subaru, Federica, Petra, Puck, Elsa and maylie. Everyone have got wonderful moments and I can give to you in writing when I say this "you thought part 1 was good oh wait till part 2 comes out !!!!!"
Re:Zero Season 1: Suffering Simulator 20xx ReZero: Season 2: Whiplash Simulator 20xx I cant tell you how much I love how entertaining this series has been for me especially as someone who is quite new to anime. I love the expert story writing that keeps you guessing at every turn especially from a content creator's perspective as I think up ideas for a video game I'm currently directing. I cant wait for season 2 to continue in January. I may or may not have also splurged on a preorder of the collectors edition of the companion game coming out on the switch.
The 154 win should have been 2. The way I saw was that subaru, even when close to those he cared about, he was still isolated. Not just for being from another world, his rather strange way of being because of that, and other things that made him different. It was the fact no matter how close he was with someone, because of that power the other might even not like him. And all those past things he did, the things he got trough, the things he saw, he did, he couldn’t talk about it, almost as not acknowledging those things has they never happened in the first place. The fact that for the very first time he can talk about it and say what he need to say so the weight of everything can subside, if not just a bit. It says to him: you truly are not alone. She might not the best person or one to trust, but the fact this moment happened made most of that weight gone, because he knows he truly is not alone even when he can’t see it

I have been a Narnia fan since childhood and I don't know why but Re:Zero captured something similar to Narnia for me. I’m surprised there wasn’t a win for my all time favorite Ram line: “I’m perfectly lovable. If I were more lovable, the world would be in danger” 😂 Idk why I just find it so hilarious, especially with her monotone delivery, but maybe I’m the only one. Some people probably don’t like Re:Zero for a variety of things. The lack of over the top shounen fight scenes, the main character being “dumb” compared to other anime main characters, some people say that the only reason why the anime is popular is because of the cute waifus and that the characters are 2 dimensional at face value. The people who don’t like the anime for these reasons do understand what Re:Zero is, but they do NOT *understand* what *Re:Zero* is. Re:Zero is about character development. Re:Zero is about deeply hidden and woven together world building. Re:Zero isn’t about a mildly flawed character learning and saving the day, it is about a heavily flawed character learning how to love himself, wanting and trying to save the people he cares about in the process. Re:Zero isn’t about a character who suffers a lot just to get “the girl that he wants because of haha horny”. Re:Zero is studying a character with flaws growing as a result of that suffering plus the help he receives from people around him. The reason why Subaru is so infatuated by Emilia is because she is the first person who has decided to help him out of the kindness of their heart. You could argue and point towards Subaru’s parents, but the thing about that is that Subaru doesn’t realize the unconditional love his parents have him before and during Season 1. At least, not until Echidna lets Subaru “see” his parents again. It was probably that way because of how everybody around him expected high things of Subaru because of his father. The majority of the people who don’t like Re:Zero either came into the series with skewed expectations as a result of people around them singing false praises, they didn’t pay attention to what the anime is actually trying to say, or maybe even a mix of both. If Re:Zero isn’t an anime about Subaru overcoming his massive flaws then explain why there are multiple web novels written by the mangaka online that detail alternate stories of Subaru’s life if he had made a bad choice in the original story? The mangaka wouldn’t put much thought writing something like that if the main focus of the show was, for example, “saving the day for the damsel in distress”.

If we were in the same room I would have applaud you right there and then. I follow some reactors here on RUclips that don't seem to understand this, and they just finish part one of season one. It is incredibly annoying that people don't seem to grasp that Re: Zero is about the drama and the journey of self love and kindness that Subaru needs. RE: Zero is an amazing anime, and I can't wait for more to come.

Win 19: the light novel basically has the same thing- that 'side story' mentioned is one of several 'what if' scenarios wherein Subaru chooses differently or events proceed another way, each theme -of course- after the 7 dealt sins. This side story is sloth- subaru choosing to settle for saving just rem from the witch cult's plans rather than anybody else due to the immense and seemingly insurmountable effort it would take to do that, unlike he does in the main story, and the light novel includes that as a prelude chapter/dream rem's having before the attack on the caravan
win 27: actually, a LOT of people would be looking at that exact knife in that scene- the anime altered Subaru's initial suicide to save rem quite a bit- he basically used that knife there to slit his throat and restart, except he found out that the 'save point' had updated to THAT exact moment- he 'woke up' again in front of a comatose Rem on the bed
Win 33: actually, in the light novel, wilhelm himself confesses to more personal motives to wanting to continue the alliance, with less to do with liking subaru himself, and rather more to do with his issues pertaining to his deceased wife. Theresa had a divine 'blessing of the reaper' which causes wounds she inflicted to never heal, adding to her deadliness on the battlefield as a sword saint. During a previous argument with wilhelm, she lightly injured his shoulder to prove a point during a sword fight over whether or not she should join the hunt for the white whale. At some point during the aftermath of killing the whale, Wilhelm realised that his old wound has reopened- not to an extent that blood loss would threaten his life, but rather that the effect of the blessing was active again. The closer one is in proximity to the one who dealt their unsealable wound, the worse the injury gets- which indicates to wilhelm that his wife might not actually be dead- which kinda should have been obvious in hindsight since he still remembered her, indicating the erasure effects of the while whale weren't responsible for her death. Regardless, the only clue wilhelm has is that the witch cult was likely involved with whatever happened to her, and since the cult will focus on emilia due to her half-elf nature, continuing the alliance will let him cross paths with them again. It does demonstrate a change in his character, certainly, but that's due to the events that subaru brought about, so it's not like subaru wasn't able to prevent the alliance being dissolved in spite of his efforts thus far
win 97: the reveal that Roswall actually knows, to some extent, about subaru's looping ability actually retroactively doubles the win for this one, because, yes, as you said, it was a horrible idea from subaru's and our perspective.. because we got to see the end result where subaru didn't achieve his 'golden ending' and had to restart. From Roswall and everyone else's perspective, subaru successfully created an alliance to kill the white whale and then the sin archbishop of sloth with as minimal casualties as possible, and basically no civilian casualties. it's horrific when looking at it from an outside perspective, but the knowledge that he's basically relying upon the 'invincible' nature of return by death to redo events as many times as he needs to to achieve the best ending makes it a kind of warped brilliance. his contingency plan basically boiled down to leaving things to subaru to deal with...and it worked 100%. it's why he claims that he had faith in Subaru- they very fact that he's able to speak to him about being so irresponsible during those events shows that subaru managed to find the kind of inner strength Roswall wanted him to develop over the course of the 'trial' he allowed the witch cult to proceed with
win 99: indeed, the fact that roswall is actually trying to force the trial to be all about Subaru in the end to better mould him and emilia into fitting with his desired outcome is seen as a villainous com come can also be seen as a win, because subaru may be the hero of the story, but he's not the only one it should revolve around
win 119: actually, subaru is saying all that to Beatrice because it was in the original light novel, and he's worried that the same thing that happened to him with his altered suicide attempt might happen again the ned time he dies- namely that his 'save point' updates to past a point where he can't save people anymore. basically, subaru is constantly worried for the first few loops of this arc that the same thing might happen again, and he could wake up in a world where he can no longer save those who have died. Its what informs his decisions to kill himself asap whenever he reaches a 'bad outcome' no matter how warped and selfish his actions appears to others, especially those who died trying to preserve his life the first few times. the only reason he doesn't;t immediately kill himself is usually out of a desire to find out more information before he has to loop again, or something else kills him.
win 125: subaru is actually referring to how garfiel's actions, reactions and intentions keep altering time and time again each loop he's in, meaning his actions don't conform to any set pattern he can predict and utilise to get him on his side next time around
win 128: additionally, every time subaru resets during a loop his 'witch smell' grows stronger, not only when he comes close to breaking the taboo about speaking of RBD, so that further complicates his interactions with people who can smell it on him
win 133: additionally, this comes right on the heels of Subaru being told by beatrice that all their interactions together were basically lies on her behalf, and she felt nothing for him, as well as Garfiel betraying him, so subaru really, honestly needed an actual friend at this point to help stabilise his mind
win 175: minor spoilers i think i need to reveal, but since this is something that happens in a 'dead' loop and subaru isn't likely to revisit it in his thoughts going forward- that isn't actually Satella. Her 'actual' reveal comes around in ep 13 when subaru is leaving the witches' tea Party. Rather, its Satella possessing the emotionally shattered Emillia's body, brought about as penance for Subaru breaking the taboo and speaking about RBD with Echnidia. She couldn't punish Echnidia the same way as she did with emilia in season 1, but she still found a way to punish subaru for his hubris in speaking about the forbidden subject
win 176: following on from that, even if Subaru himself 'knows' it wasn't really Emilla, that doesn't mean he wasn't emotionally affected dying to a creature that wore her face at the time
win 183: subaru is pointing out the logical fallacy between beatrice's natural and emotional reactions and her claims that the all-knowing book is responsible for every interaction and enjoyable moment they've shared together. If the book was 'really' all-knowing and omnipotent as Beatrice claims, then nothing he says or does should take her off-guard, but the fact that he can, and indeed has done several times before shows that the book's supposed power, and thus the main reason she claims it's impossible for her to go with him, isn't as immutable and absolute as she claims, meaning she has no real reason to refuse his requests using that as an excuse
win 190: yep, it really is emilia, and the fact that she broke not out of some supernatural twist or monster affecting her, but rather the circumstances both of them find themselves in is what makes her current state so dark. Just like the great rabbit's approach is an inevitability, if Subaru cannot resolve the problems in the mansion and the sanctuary then Emilia 'will' break from the strain just as assuredly
win 196: and now subaru actually has incentive not to rely upon return by death so much to resolve his problems, knowing it's possible that he could end up creating another world of breathed friends and loved ones each time he dies, especially if it's suicide. the possibility id horrific, but also something he 'needs' to keep in mind, given how he was determined to use RBD again and again
win 204: actually, the only one trying to make a contract with Subaru is echnidia. The rest are just trying to force her to stop being so manipulative for once and shoot straight with Subaru about her actual intentions, so he knows full well the consequences and outcomes of accepting her deal before he takes it
Quick detail that's super subtle, but total genius: Roswal and Echidna are essential twisted versions of Subaru's parents. Daddy Natsuki was cool with Subaru being his own person even if that meant being different from him and his mom was okay with stepping aside and letting him figure things out on his own. Compare that to Roswal being manipulative and abusive and Echidna offering to micro-manage Subaru's very existence.

You know i feel like subaru is being how should i say it maybe tempered would be most suitable while his character development is massive it's obvious that he subtly but surely falling to insanity even his breakdowns though at the end he gets encouraged back on his feet (didn't find a better away to express what i meant) he's still damaged no one remembers his pain other than him he lived and died countless times so i think that subaro is being readied for something big

Inside, they collided with the others that had invaded from his rectum, and, as if descending into a competition, they devoured his organs left and right, turning Natsuki Subaru into minced feed.
It was the unmistakable sensation of being alive while living creatures shredded him from within.
Fear had already left him. There was barely any more pain. He couldn’t understand why he was still conscious.

Re: Zero is a masterpiece and Nagatsuki Tappei is an absolutely incredible author being able to write up such a story nice and tightly, with neither loose ends or unnecessary leftovers. It's filled with interesting and complex characters which goes for their relationships as well, and all of these developing and changing throughout the story.
You may have said the "may end up bigger than Lord of the Rings" thing as a jest, but arc 4 in itself, which the second season is based off, is in fact in its written form longer than the trilogy, and that is but one arc of a total of 11 that are planned.
Suffice to say that I'm super excited to get to see the second half of the season in a few weeks and hopefully the rest of the story too eventually.

I'm really excited because the author said that there are going to be 11 arcs and that the last arc is going to be the longest in the series, if we consider that Arc 4 Web Novel is 145 chapters long, and 6 volumes of the LN, i hope that he has no volume limit because that way he can create a good ending for the series without it feeling rushed, because imagine that arc 11 is 200-300 chapters long, you can't adapt that huge amount of content in just 6 volumes without cutting off most of what happens during the last arc.

I saw Re:Zero wins; I clicked. And what's really funny is the butterflies in Beatrice's irises was a gigantic spoiler from the first day we met her - we just didn't know it until now.

Honestly, the scene with Subaru being able to tell Echidna about his Return by Death and being understood by her was the most cathartic moment of this entire series so far.
She didn't really understand him or his feelings, it was all an act, i'm not denying how important that was for Subaru but still she didn't do it out of the kindness of her heart, she was just baiting him to make a contract and she want to exploit his ability (RBD) for her greed, she's a good character but i don't like her pirsonality, i mean she's a witch after all
28:20 Actually, Ram had a recollection of a memory that happened in the very same timeline. The reason she felt so odd about it was due to Rem's heavy involvement with that memory, since Rem was erased from everyone's memories.
Forget the rotating scene and no CGI during Echidna's monologue, I would've given her 5 wins for her voice actress doing that in one take! Extremely impressive performance!

This half of the season was so good I couldn’t even pick a favorite part but it’s between him finally being able to get return by death off his chest or the kiss of death or Reinhard showing he’s the true MC there’s to many to pick from... also I’m sad you didn’t win Garfiels love for ram trying to save her while getting ready to fight with that ends with that brutal kick leading to the craziness of Roswall knowing suburu can restart but nothing knowing how to cause it perfection

I would have added another Win to the reveal that, whenever Satella said "Aishite" (which roughly means "to love", with context determining the subject) never actually meant him loving *her*, but actually her asking him to love *himself*. Incredibly clever use of context-sensitive trickery in the Japanese language. It makes that scene where Subaru bite his own tongue while in Satella's grasp actually even sadder and explains the face she makes there very well.
This feels less like a Wins video and more like a "OMGOMGOMG I LOVE RE:ZERO" video.

Ram wasn't recalling a memory from a time loop she hadn't experienced. She was almost recalling one that should have been erased because of its explicit connection to Rem.

@@AnimeWins What I mean is that the moment that Subaru threw Ram is still part of the timeline. It wasn't part of a previous loop that was left through Return By Death. It is part of his 'successful' timeline.
The memory was removed from Ram because of the power of Gluttony. So while the event still actually did happen to her, her memory was rewritten when Rem was "devoured" to create a version of her past in her mind that never included Rem.
So she was recalling an event that did actually happen to her, but was purged from her mind rather than being a result of Return by Death's timeline jumping.

You asked for the music in the comments at 33:41, but the song is called "Whereabouts of the Past". One of the hardest hitting songs in the series. Also a fun fact at 43:10, the scene where Subaru is telling Echidona about his ability to RBD, Yuusuke Kobayashi (the VA of Subaru) actually cried during the recording of that scene, so the voice breaking and tears from that scene were legit.

I had never read a Light Novel in my life, but Re Zero's second season made me do it. And just when I thought LN couldn't be better, I started reading Web Novels and they literally can surpass LOTR lore. But this season was so freaking epic, it made me put Re Zero in my top 10 anime of all time, which can truly become top 5 considering how the events are going on in WNs get animated in the future. And this was another great video!

If I recall correctly, the reason Subaru can find Beako so easily is because he has an incredibly high affinity with spirits. Julius mentioned it in season 1 when he used Nect and Subaru was put in pain.
As for why Sekhmet looks like the Witch of Lust instead of Sloth, my personal headcanon is that she's too lazy to wear lots of clothing (more weight=more energy to move). The author (not mangaka, Rezero started as a light novel), once wrote that she only barely has the energy to breathe.
These first few episodes made me bawl, Subaru is such a great character to study

I believe you forgot to mention the lenght of episodes as a win. They even skipped COMMERCIALS a few times so that they could save the pacing of the story and add scenes. 100 % win!

49:40 Satella actually took over Emilia's body after Subaru told Echidna about RbD. So he was understandably scared that he has lost Emilia forever (like he believes to have screwed up with Rem) and he is extremely frightened to wake Emilia up because it is possible to be Satella all over again with no way of retrieving Emilia back.
Hints for Satella taking over Emilia can be seen by the fact that Emilia's body is nowhere to be found besides Subaru and the shadows haven't reached the Trial room yet or Subaru would have already been swallowed (in Season 1 Petelgeuse even mentions multiple times that Emilia is a vessel for Satella to inhabit)
42:38 No no. I agree with you 100% on this. Subaru’s breakdowns haven’t been much help, but THIS ONE was 100% NECESSARY. This man has been forced to lie to everyone he knows and loves in this world about the fact that he’s sacrificed so much JUST to get to where he is, JUST to get to an ending where everyone’s happy, and when he DOES say something, DISASTER IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWED. This breakdown was something Subaru desperately needed as I can guarantee that if he went the entire series without telling a soul, THIS VERY THING would’ve been the source of a greater and WORSE breakdown down the road.
So yes, it was very refreshing to finally get a moment where he could finally explain his powers fully without the risk of someone getting hurt just because he had to get it off his chest. Just because he didn’t want to suffer a burden that big alone.

I really loved this season of Re Zero. It gave a lot of opportunities for answers, more mysterious, pain, and of course character building for all.
The ost in the Beatrice scene in episode 7 is called Abyss
The detailed knife in the bedroom next to Subaru, was a notch to the web/light novel readers. Because Subaru killed himself multiple times in front on that bed with exactly that knife, just to find out again and again, that his new checkpoint was in front of that same bed. They replaced that sequence with the one in front of the mansion.
Also Also ReZero's original sound tranks match perfecting with the scenes they are used in.
I have read the web novels and what I loved the most about this season was that every single character gets MAJOR character development, that includes Beatrice, Garfield, Otto, Ram, Roswaal, Emilia, Lewes-sans, Subaru, Federica, Petra, Puck, Elsa and maylie. Everyone have got wonderful moments and I can give to you in writing when I say this "you thought part 1 was good oh wait till part 2 comes out !!!!!"

I cant tell you how much I love how entertaining this series has been for me especially as someone who is quite new to anime. I love the expert story writing that keeps you guessing at every turn especially from a content creator's perspective as I think up ideas for a video game I'm currently directing. I cant wait for season 2 to continue in January. I may or may not have also splurged on a preorder of the collectors edition of the companion game coming out on the switch.

The 154 win should have been 2. The way I saw was that subaru, even when close to those he cared about, he was still isolated. Not just for being from another world, his rather strange way of being because of that, and other things that made him different. It was the fact no matter how close he was with someone, because of that power the other might even not like him. And all those past things he did, the things he got trough, the things he saw, he did, he couldn’t talk about it, almost as not acknowledging those things has they never happened in the first place. The fact that for the very first time he can talk about it and say what he need to say so the weight of everything can subside, if not just a bit. It says to him: you truly are not alone. She might not the best person or one to trust, but the fact this moment happened made most of that weight gone, because he knows he truly is not alone even when he can’t see it
I am MASSIVELY looking forward to part 2 for this!
I love the pacing in Re:Zero. I feel like more happens in 6 episodes of Re:Zero than a whole season of other isekai

I have been a Narnia fan since childhood and I don't know why but Re:Zero captured something similar to Narnia for me. Those long and treacherous conversations with witches with ulterior motives, maybe the redemption arcs for both Emilia and Subaru in S2 Part 2? In any case I love Re: Zero Season 2.
