Popping out of your car's trunk - sorry - boot was unexpected and super funny! I love the amount of thought you've been putting into just the intro's to these Advent videos. Warmest wishes from Massachusetts, USA.
I'm really enjoying the Advent updates and am amazed at your ability to fit everything into your day! The upgrades all look great. Hope you don't mind but I may be pinching some of your storage ideas.
You are the only Narrowboat Vlogger, that I am aware of, that Vlogs daily. Definitely love it, but it has to take a toll on you. When do you sleep??? 😴
Hi james , if you paint the front off the cuboard youve just built the same as the walls , as you look up the boat it will blend in nicely , and the bed when the slats are in theres not a lot of air circulation send your matress moldy , needs holes with a hole saw in the fixed ones , or just lift it in the day shove something under it and let it air in the day , cheers mark
Hi James, Excellent bit of ad hoc design work😊 I would just check you can get any storage boxes out from under the bed before finalising, but it looked like the walkway space was still sufficient. Hopefully the inverter works out for you tomorrow 👍
Exactly the sort of set up I envisaged, James. Great minds think alike. I need support in bed, too. I have a recording of a football crowd, for just such occasions. :oD All the best, mate.
🛌 Hi James, the bed fame/support is a great success 👍🏻 The wood you are thinking about fitting to the side support will be very rough and snaggy for the kids catching themselves on it (and you) plus it will snag your suits and clothes. Perhaps cut a wavy piece of wood and stain it …. Just a helpful thought 😉
Perfect timing. Cat on lap, glass of imperial stout in hand, ready for today's NBTJB. Good choice of topics, and something that has crossed my mind. How does one physically get supplies to the boat, and where do you put your shoes? Other vloggers have shown various little hand carts, but it's always an incidental part of the video that I have never asked about. There must be a number of possible solutions, maybe even worth a whole vlog about the options available. I think about shoes because I live in a relatively small up / down condo, and there isn't a lot of space to put them. When it snows, that's another set of footwear. Wherever floor space is at a premium, there is a challenge.
I see you're channelling Scotty Kilmer James. Sat in the car boot. A tip for the drill would be to find an old cordless up to 14v, remove the battery and add a long cord and 12v plug. That way you can run it off the boat battery directly by plugging it into a 12v socket. I've done it on an old drill I keep on my boat. The only limitation then is the length of the cord and the capacity of the boat battery. It's a shame that most cordless devices are now around 19 or 20 volts. They require too high a voltage to run off a car/boat battery.
With a nice piece of finish wood on top of the shoe shelves. It would be a shame to have the finish damaged from supporting the bed. Was thinking a piece of felt or rubber glides in the under side of the bed edge might be in order.
Morning James 😀 The coming out of the Dagenham Dustbins boot was classic 🤣 Love the make it up as you as that is how your channel works and you don’t hide anything 😆 We’ve moved house now and have the railway in the back garden 🪴 same line as yours but up north 😂 So when I hear them passing you I think about home lol 😆 Take care cheers Stevie 😎
Live edge would be beautiful on the top. Just make sure you poly it to death, because it will get a lot of scuffs and wear. All the best from Missouri.
You could always use the Briwax to coat the top of the wood that the bed rest on when expanded to bring out the colour if you find something with good grain James.
You can get van chargers for most makes of power tools. I use one to charge my 18v batteries from 12v works great. More efficient than using a inverter.
Did you say you were a surveyor or something? You seem to have a good grasp of measuring off of features of size, GD&T and drafting that seems to escape most of the general public... lol. (I was a drafter in a former life)
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt Ohhhh... I thought I heard "chart surveyor" so I was thinking something to do with mapping. I guess our equivalent would be a home/building inspector or maybe even a structural engineer?
Hi James, bed's coming along fabulously ! I really hope you get those curtains soon, as I saw kids messing around outside your window during this vlog. Privacy is a must I think. Take care 🙂
I find it interesting how items in UK and USA have different names. James, in the US we call that a hand truck. I believe you call trucks, trolleys so the names do make sense. Don't you just love the english language on both sides of the pond!!
Just put the shoes in vertical rather than horizontal. They will fit better and easier to grab. That would also mean just putting a top on not a door in the front.
James, where are you getting your foam from ? I need to get some for my home improvements. Boats getting nice and homely now. I just checked out curtains for you, at The Range and Dunelm, but would work out very expensive. Hope your Mum can help you out with making them. Bye x
@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt young single with 5 kids. 🤣 and living on a narrowboat, what a life you have you lucky guy. Thanks for the vlogs, I know I look forward to them.
Why don’t u have a something that pulls out of the bottom of your wardrobe just another piece of loose ply board painted would do the trick could just have a dinner table made up for your dinet which could fold away for the leg for that which would double up as the support and the table for when you do have a taller guest
I think after the kids have there play on it , most of it will end up in the fire 🔥 😂😂😂
“It’s the fourteenth of December!” 😂😂😂 (continue to love your advent intros!)
A tall woman with her feet on your toolbox! Made me laugh, cheers mate :)

Thanks so much - glad you enjoyed the trunk scene
A new bed is nice for kids. You can roll over and not fall out bed. Have a good time at work and have a lot fun.
True true
Loving the "Dynamic Planning", Also known as, "Make it up as you go along". Top Dynamic Planning Young James :-)
MIUAYGA is definitely the case with this boat mate
I love the way your potential tall guest is more likely to be female !!
You are priceless. Love your daily vids.
Thanks - very nice of you to say
OMG, James ...lol...your opening words are getting eccentric..lol

Nice bit of problem-solving, James. I like the sound of the live edge if you can make that work.
Me too 🤣

Yes I’ll whack some holes in the main slats. Yeah I’ll do the sides in the same colour as the walls
You should put the kid's shoe's in a tall basket. You can put a board over it and it can double as a table

Sliding 5 mil doors to hide the shoes with a dill hole to open and close. Neat and tidy.

@@TheNarrowboatThatJamesBuilt It's late. I dare say a few of your overseas viewers will be scratching their heads.
I would just build a bookcase job done the side out parts will rest on the top shelf
Good video

Where it comes in and narrows put the kids shoes 👍👍

Good job James! You might want to place some stops on the underside of the slats, they would stop anyone banging the wall.
Live edge would be beautiful on the top. Just make sure you poly it to death, because it will get a lot of scuffs and wear. All the best from Missouri.

Probably a good idea to box in the water pipes quite soon. They are getting knocked around and will start leaking in the end?
Yep on it
Looks perfect. We'll done for resolving this - I wait to see the finished opus. Is live edge the unplaned rough cut wood that ladders tights? 😎😎
Yes that’s the stuff with a bark edge - I’ll have to be really careful when wearing tights

Hi, Dewalt make a car charger for there batteries that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket , Its not cheap but does the job.
Sounds like you need some new tips for that drill
Cladding the top with floor tile?
Nah - I reckon live edge is the way to go
Hi James , where did you get the trolley from and how much was it , really enjoy your videos mate 😊😊
try looking for a camping gas trolley as they are usually designed strong enough for caravan/campervan to lug calorgas bottles about on.
