NEARLY PERFECT! 2022 Audi RS5 Review

- Опубликовано: 9 дек 2021
- 2022 Audi RS5 review by The Straight Pipes. The 2022 Audi RS5 is putting down 444 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque from a 2.9L Twin Turbo V6. At $112,540 CAD, would you take it over the BMW M3 or the Mercedes-AMG C63s?

Have you tried to put it in Neutral instead of park so you can bypass the redline restrictions
Nearly perfect? The engine is dated and underpowered. M3 motor blows this out of the water any day of the week! I’ll take the controversial grille if what’s behind it is far superior.
It won’t let me input any Canadian postal codes . Is it only for the states?
That color, as a green color lover, this car just looks incredible.
I’m not a fan of green. But that just pops! Beautiful colour
Smoke green and stay high my friend
Agreed, now is a great time for green car buyers, the Genesis GV80 is also spectacular.
That really is the perfect green. Not too dark like BRG and not crazy lime/neon like a Lamborghini. Can’t help but think how good it would look on an R8.
@@Ecuador006 required most of your remaining brain cells to type that out huh?
This year, I met an engineer from Audi in Neckarsulm. He told me that RS5 (and A5 in general) is the most balanced of all Audi's models (except R8), concerning the chassis, weight distribution and car dynamics.
Ask him about the bad suspension damping on roads
@@TheStraightPipes Don't know the guy. Met him at the beach bar in Croatia. :)
Best of luck, guys.
@@TheStraightPipes yeah i mean it’s not like the m cars ride nice in their sporty settings. I just leave mine in individual mode with suspension to auto.
@@Turtle-sz7sk the M cars do ride better than this in their sporty settings and in their comfort settings. This one in comfort is bouncy
@@TheStraightPipes agree to disagree, I currently own a new RS5 and daily drive it with 0 issues in comfort mode. Mines a coupe but I doubt that matters.
I’ve never been an Audi fan until recently. They are killing it with the designs
are you asian? because that's who they've been designing for the last 5 years
I own a 2021 RS5 and love it to death. So much FUN!!!! Agree with everything in this review including the suspension comment. That's my only gripe is driving around Toronto it's like, "Damn this is stiff!" Even in softest mode. Launching it I routinely clock 3.6 sec 0-60.
🙏
@@layne4376 if you want to compare with pricing.... Audi RS3 is faster than the current M340i according to car and driver. The new one is even faster... the extra money in the RS5 is not just for speed, a lot of quality is improved. Not to mention when you start adding packages to BMW the price goes up drastically, making the price difference with similar specs not very far off.
@@layne4376 I'm not saying 20k isn't a lot, I'm saying you get what you pay for. Also the difference is less than that for a 340i that gets a package loaded similarly to a low to mid spec RS5. For 30k you can get a modded out B8 S4 that will blow the RS5 out of the water in a straight line. You're paying for a lot more than raw speed when you buy a new RS5, if that's what you want you're simply shopping the wrong market.
@@layne4376 You can tune a M340 too for much more HP. It's a relatively inexpensive tune.
@@xorbitman you can tune the RS5, RS3 and just about any other modern German car to higher horsepower too
Have my wife about 63% convinced we should get this…
Not 64% or 62%?
@@jghall00 6% more and he might get it
fill up 7% in bed easily... Good luck
@@jghall00 Lol
you more than half way there.... im barely at 10%
I own a 2019 RS5 Sportback and after 7 months of ownership i can say it really does do everything right LOL. Launched it, highway raced it, daily driver, comfy, drove it to NYC and back, literally nothing wrong. On top of looking amazing lots of people love to turn and look at it (as well as try to race it)
As the corporate cousin with the Panamera 4S, I can confirm that it does do everything right as well! BEST car I've had so far
Just don’t race a current M3/M4.
@@alstound ive only seen one of those so far on my way to work and the guy driving was an older gentleman and he aint want to race but my car looks better so idc
@@ultrainstinctcannon4659 looks are subjective though 🤷🏽♂️

Beautiful well crafted machine. The way this car sits on the road is amazing.
Exactly
I lowered and put wider tires on mine 2018 s5 and i looks even better lots of compliments
That these guys another car enthusiast haven’t picked up on the fact that you put skinny skinny tires on a car is going to ride like shit this whole narrow skinny tire thing is really ridiculous and all it does is make the rides of many cars harsh and unbearable.
Love the different angles this was filmed in. Always innovate and stay fresh, y’all are the best!
Your videos are so much more professional than they were when I started watching. In some ways I like that format more, but these are fantastic and just so polished.
You guys are absolutely amazing! I discovered this channel recently and I am simply binge-watching
I have a 2019 RS5 Sportback in black. The car is insanely quick off the line. Everyone you encounter on the road wants to race you, but unfortunately they lose. I ordered all of the options except the package for the heated steering wheel and rear seat heating. The heating steering wheel is round and not the traditional flat bottom which is signature for this car. C'mon Audi, your engineers cannot figure out how to heat a flat bottom steering wheel? I agree with Big Jake and the car is bouncy, but only in Dynamic mode (sportiest setting). Lastly, I would gladly swap out massaging seats for ventilated seats. Otherwise, pure perfection in an automobile!
Pure perfection in an automobile...
What a nice sentence there
The M3 Xdrive will destroy the rs5 lol
Lol nah my M5 would clap those cheeks
@@christiankytoh LOL...after being spanked for many years by Audi and MB, they finally figured out all wheel drive. The one thing I can guarantee for sure is you will make a lot of new friends at the BMW club, also known as the service department at your local BMW dealer! Make sure you bring a thick wallet for club dues.
@@christiankytoh have raced one? I wouldnt know i only have the Manual one and im sure the RS5 will beat my rwd manual lol
My favorite channel reviewing my car. What a day! Loved it 🙌
I don't know how to explain my love for this car. The performance, design, body style, sound, color spec, it just does everything right for me. This is my favorite car right now.
@@High1QWealth Who hurt you?
Love everything but the price
It’s great. There are so few of them on the road that several times I’ve had people come up to me to compliment it and asked what it was. I’ve gotten s5, A7, etc thrown out there but they’re always surprised to hear there’s an RS5
Whats your favorite car now? Top 3?
Audi is always awesome in its own right. You throw the upgraded S line in there and it just takes what is already awesome and bumps it up so many levels. This car is absolutely sick. Love that color too.
I own a 2018 RS5 and I agree with the suspension. I love the car, it’s so stable and the handling and Quattro system never disappoints. The only downside I see is that it’s not as aggressive as an M4 or C63. This car has a more muted driving experience compared to those. It just knows how to put power down on every road but isn’t as “fun” as its competitors.
I had an RS5 and you are spot on with the suspension being bouncy in comfort mode.
it is a shame this video is only 11 minutes. This car deserves more time than that.
Watch our other rs5 review that we referenced if you want more on it
That color combo on the RS5 🤯 amazing !
straight pipe reviews are my favourite
Love the newer Audi cars. Great vid.
I have a 2021 rs5 coupe and it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I absolutely love it and it’s the perfect mix between sport and luxury and a great daily driver.
got the same! I highly suggest deleting the 3 resonators & exhaust valve delete plugs. massive difference in sound!
Great video Sonoma green is spectacular in person! And Jakub I want your awesome flannel shirt bro!! Where you get it?
I watched your previous video before I went out and bought my sportback in nardo grey! Thank you guys
It's like 85 degrees F here right now, I'll hold off on the winter tires. 🤣
Beautiful car in every way! Love the content guys. Hope to see you review the new M240i.
Frigging love this car! I have the 2019 sportback.
The ONLY complaint I have is the suspension. I usually have to keep it in comfort mode because dynamic mode is WAY too bumpy for normal driving.
I love this car. I have a 2014 S4, and it is a phenomenal car with the supercharged 3.0 and manual 6. I want to trade it in for a new rs4, but I'd really miss the manual transmission. Maybe I'll try one and see if it wins me over
I haven't driven the current Gen RS5 (yet), but I really enjoyed the previous generation with the V8, what a GLORIOUS engine. I really wish it came with a manual though.
I own a 2014 S5 with the 6spd manual that I adore. I've driven the current S5 sportback and it's a great car, but I prefer the 3.0 supercharged engine over the newer 3.0 turbocharged engine. The supercharged car sounds better (doesn't hide the engine sound like a turbo does) and the engine response is immediate instead of waiting for the boost to build with the newer turbo.
They're both great, you just have to decide what you can and can't give up with each one. Is your car stock or modified?
You will regret it only more with time. Do everything you can to keep it fresh long term and enjoy the appreciation. People crave a manual sports sedan they can daily more than anything and they aren't making any more of them. People with these in-between cars are gonna be in a weird place. Although this is at least not hybrid.
Same here. The manual S4s are rare I love mine
keep the s4 man. unless you really want to upgrade. there will always be a certain void missing if you like having a manual. Yes the autos are fast, but whats the point of being fast all the time if you arent able to enjoy rowing through the gears yourself.
Yeah I drove one yesterday and it wasn't the same. I'm definitely keeping it. I really hate that manuals are being phased out for "on paper" performance. They lack the fun.
i’ve been waiting for this video for a while now
This is just so perfect. Beautifully sculpted and amazing performance. 💓
That cars looks and sounds amazing and the best part is the visor test worked with it not flying off lol just out of curiosity do the dealers get all upset when that has happened as I believe it has happened more then once in the past lol
I just got an RS5 (2023) over US Labor Day weekend. Mine does not have the RS Dynamic Drive, so I am stuck in FIRM suspension, every mile. For most of my driving, no prob, but when I took it on its first road trip, I did feel the need to get out and stretch (the smaller tank and subsequent needed refueling aids in this without looking like a total wimp). The seat massage helped a bit...
But otherwise, I love it. Engine? Awesome! Cabin? Comfy (though I do agree that cooling seats would be nice, especially being in the South). Internal noise? Easily manageable, though I do think that in the exhaust's "Present" mode some interior engine noise is... enhanced (i.e., piped in)? Sound system is very, very good - abetter than my prior Range Rover (Meridien) and Mercedes AMG (Burmester) systems. For once, the actuating volume to compensate for interior noise function works. B&O did a good job with Audi here.
Exhaust note-wise, I don't get as much pop as I did even on my GLE 53. But I get massive burps when I take my foot off the pedal. And unfortunately my commute takes me through neighborhoods, where getting that roar is a little rare. But I have found at least one service road that I think could be a good test bed.
Cargo space: when you think "sports car," I don't think "What's the trunk like?" immediately springs to mind. But it's important for me, and the Sportback has plenty of space for my needs. I only wish the spare well was large enough for a fullsize spare, not the dinky donut. (One of my RRs did, and I bought an OEM rim to replace the 50 mph-regulated embarrassment.)
Lastly, I must comment on the aesthetics. I think most Audis frankly look BORING - A4, Q5, Q7, etc. To me, they were just VWs with perhaps an added edge and cool turn sgnals. But I always thought the hatchback sedans (A5 and A7, plus their 'roided siblings) as well as the Q8 looked SHARP. I still hold to that. (My dad has a Q5 and it's a joy to drive, so easy. Just "meh" at looking at it though.) The R8 is otherworldly.
But so far, enjoying it, even if it is at a lower trim level.
Always a good morning with a new Straight Pipes Vid!! Keep it up boys👑👑
I watch Straight Pipes because yall are true enthusiast, love your reviews.
Not like the dude name redline reviews he just complains about every car
Love your videos!
Units on the metric torque. Great video!!
Regarding the suspension, I would check how the car sits on its rear suspension when stationary. There is a possibility that for very small shock absorber strokes the suspension is already working in its bumpstops; in this case you are greatly reducing the influence of the shock absorbers, since it’s the bumpstop force-displacement curve what is basically defining the damping.
Blessings to your channel from Chicago
nice review guys
Perfect shade of green. It pops enough to almost look like a custom paint job but not so bold that it looks cheesy.
Love Uri's hair! He's taken it back to 2001 and fronting for a rock band.
Yes, finally in that eye popping Sonoma metallic green...
Love the RS cars! Great review as always, fellas!
The car looks amazing thank you guys.
That green and launch 😍😍😍
Always nice to see a good green from an automaker.
That color is incredible!
Dude that green is my favorite color. And it looks beutiful on that Audi
I actually bought a RS5 Sportback mainly based on your previous review.
Listen. I live in The Bahamas, and some guy has a 2014 S7 & the same green is on that car & it’s beautiful. And this is even better.
Very surprised to see the color on the thumbnail wasn’t an edit!
😍
I have a 2018 RS5. Doesn’t have adaptive suspension and I think it’s perfect. And I live in a town with goat trails for roads!!
Nice work fellas, man this car is sweet. I actually like the control wheel thing on the previous gen entertainment though.
Such a nice car 🔥
Sick ride 🔥🔥🔥🔥
can't wait for the M240i review!
That colour!!!!! Job done.
Hopefully the visor didn't fly off like the last review lol. Love the review.
Definitely a car I will consider for the future. Any idea when Audi goes full EV lineup? I want to get a RS5 before then. Great review guys! З Новим роком! Yuri!
I have owned a RS5 before back in the day and out of every car I have owned in my lifetime. It’s the car I still dream about driving. It does everything you want in a car and makes you feel like you can do anything as a driver. Best balanced car I have ever driven and I have driven allot of 100k plus cars. So if I can get one of these again in the future I would. It’s not for blowing people off the line it’s for daily driving and long trips. Put on a good song and go for a drive it’s what the car is made for.
love that Exhaust !!! I would take the old one if its same thing and then wrap it in green ;)
In the past the Audi Sport Suspensions were fixed with non adjustable dampers. Despite having, Comfort, Sport ect... in MMI settings it does not change suspension settings, it will change everything else except for suspension.
I Like the Fog Lights, Nice Car.
I love the sportback more than the coupe, the coupe has a notchback appearance from some angles where this is curvy all the way back, great work Audi!
Disagree. The coupe has the right lines and curves. The spot back looks like the coupe extended
probably my fav car design of recent memory, it does everything without being offensive.
I own a 19’ RS5 Sportback in the same colour! I was hesitant to buy this colour but it’s definitely growing on me (especially when clean, Calgary winters…). I get thumbs up from fellow Audi cars when I drive it! I agree with the suspension being firm, in dynamic mode it’s almost unbearable on the street. And it’s 2021, not hard to put a heated wheel in the flat bottom steering wheel Audi!
do u know if the rs5 coupe has the same suspension problem?
Would love to see a review of the RS5 Competition!
Love the bronze wheels on this 🔥💯
have one on order, by the time it arrives it would be 8 months since I ordered it. Just wish a leather dashboard and alcantara roof were standard for this price point.
The flawless Audi ❤️
my 3 year old boy thinks that Audi Launch control is pure fun, i agree with him for sure
The last center console without the giant slab of gloss black looked so much better.
Hey guys. I just got my S5 Sportback, however watching this video makes me to the desire to have the RS. Awesome well made video, you know have to put the passion on what you do, Cheers
Which is why I just went with the RS5 I didn’t want to feel like that
That’s why I went with the RS5 as well. It’s worth the extra money. It’s a sleeper as well.
He guys love your videos and cars
And loved the music in this video can u put a link to it please..
One of the few cars that looks good in great. It looks stunning actually
In green?
Love my 2019 RS5 sportback. Excited to drive the 2022 M3 competition seeing if I might switch down the road
Yall should get a 2022 TT RS. One last review for the last year of a legendary coupe.
Literally zero changes since the 2019 update, though.
Oh man, fuckin love the green cars lately!
Just a note on your graphic: torque is expressed as Nm in the metric system, not kW. Anyway; awesome car, awesome review.
I went for the Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 for my FiST.
I think they fired Klaus, the intern, responsible for installing the sun visors in 2019.
The only reason a review would get more views on a car with little changes since 2019 is because it's the StraightPipes!
That color PERFECT!
Love you guys and respect the sponsorship with continental, but I have an f80 m3 and the contisport stock tires are the hottest of hot garbage.
I love this car so much
I have a 2013 Audi S5 Cabriolet Prestige. I know my little supercharged V6 can't compete with the new cars, and it shouldn't, but it is a pleasure to drive. It does suffer from some understeer, but I'm confident having my wife drive it with all wheel drive. I absolutely love that new green color. Thanks for the video guys!
Oh was that rotiform rims!?
Also funny one single less torque.
Merry Christmas
Amazing how Alfa gets 65hp more from the same displacement and configuration engine. This Audi looks great and seems to punch above it’s weight too. Absolutely love the bronze rims
Get the falfa out from the same sentence as this German..
«its» weight.
Well, Alfa are slightly over estimating, Audi are understating the power they will be within about 10bhp of each other.
Edit:as James said, with audi there a routes like Apr, revo and abt who will give you best part of 600bhp and a 5 year warranty which is already better than alfas
But a basic Apr tune will put you around 550hp they even have warranties
@@jamessterman5088 yeah and imagine if you got a real tune, apr is good, but a bit more conservative these days. A custom e85 tune and full bolt ons should make serious power on the stock turbos
That colour is amazing
I can’t make up my mind between this and an RS3 I love that 5 cyl sound
This is my new dream daily driver!
Great review! I am about to sign up for rs5 but the suspension comments here worry me a little. Will the comfort mode be different with adaptive damping / RS sports suspension on?
Ready for RS3, cant wait till they arrive this side of the world (NA)
💥Beyond perfect bro😎
Just sold my fully specked 2018 RS5 coupe. Loved the car to bits. You are bang on about the suspension. That slo mo really highlights the bounciness perfectly. It was either too stiff in the more sporting settings or had a hobby horse effect in comfort. This combined with some interior rattles/squeaks were my only complaints. Ended up going for a 2022 M3 competition xDrive for improved dynamics. Interior quality of the newer bmw seems much better too. Higher quality materials and things seem to be screwed in tighter. Still, Lots of love and respect for the RS5!
🙏
so you're comparing a GT AWD coupe designed for sipping lattes on the road vs a hideous 4-door track monster and you think it has "improved dynamics"? You're the reason why BMW m3 owners hate you all.
@@commonsense8342 The C63, RS5/4 and M3/4 are direct rivals...
I just got a 2022 M3 competition xDrive as well, great choice! Best car I’ve ever driven
@@Jay-oj1jj Congrats!
Curious to know what other cars were you considering?
that color is amazing....yuri im talking about your hair. nailed it!!! 😛
beautiful color on that Audi RS5 sportback.
@TheStraightPipes I picked the one without the sport suspension for that reason, day and night, it is way too stiff on the cars that have the sport one. Same spec, just the one before the revision, I am not big on the new UI
I daily a 2019 rs5. The suspension has never bugged me... granted my previous car was on rock hard coilovers.
For a V6 that sounds damn good
I’ll be glad when that infotainment screen gets moved like in the RS7
