Some good tips there I've seen some pretty poor paint jobs in my time. Thoes little bucks and liners for them save you tons of time get 2 since chances are you'll be painting some area then priming trim while thats drying. I agree on the cheap brush thing there only good for stuff you'll never see gooping on crap if your brush didn't cost at least 10 dollars it's junk. Some essentials I find important are a GOOD caulk gun! Dripless tajima newborn something that's comfortable to use. You do better caulking when you enjoy the feel of the tool in your hand (if it's under 10 dollars it's junk!) FYI tajima makes the best caulk guns in my book and alot of waterproofers use newborn since it's available locally. Your paint stores will have better guns than the home stores don't be scared if it cost 20 or more dollars. I like a work platform (werner gorilla as long as it's rated for 300+lbs) there at the home stores you can stand on them use them as a table endless uses well worth 70 to 120 dollars. As for a scraper you talk about I don't like the razer blade ones that are common I'll do a puddy knife combined with a bacho carbide 2in scraper. That scraper is the best be because it's as gentle and and rough as you want at the same time. The blades themselves cost around 20 dollars 25ish with the handle but you can hit trim nails scrape concrete or metal and it won't kill the blade. It's very beginner friendly we do restorations on historical homes often and there's no replacement for what we work on that bahco scraper is the only thing we use on delicate things. It turns out works wonders on scraping peeling paint without digging into wood or drywall as well. The extension pole you use is very important I'm 6f 4in and I use a 1ft/2ft stick most of the time longer if your shorter. For every half a pound you can shed off overhead and wall painting it far less fatigue. I have all the brands I know of and wooster or wooster gt are what we buy. They are made in usa lighter than any other brand (prudy are made in China and weigh almost a pound more cost more too!). The wooster are tough too ran over a few with the trucks still work fine also stiffer less play or flex in them. Don't cheap out on a bargin one and have to get on a ladder to fix a miss swipe because you saved 10 bucks on the pole. Just some things to add to painting side of things fyi general contractors with tons of paint jobs under my belt including 40ft tall 120 year old barns houses ect.
