There's an interview on RUclips with members of Within Temptation and Xzibit where they talk about the origins of the song. Xzibit was their first choice for the collaboration--the band felt (correctly, I think) that his deep voice would provide the perfect counter to Sharon's angelic high notes.
Ironically, Xzibit had never heard of Within Temptation when they got in touch with him, but after doing some quick checks & seeing how huge the band actually was he dove right in.
Also they gave him free reign on the lyrics to write for his section.
The only thing that I don't like about this song is that it's too short.

Yes, Within Temptation is symphonic metal and one of the OGs in the genre.
Within Temptation was Nightwishs biggest (only really) rival back in the day.
Sharon has the most angelic voice in existance.
I think Floor is the better singer all around as she has more power, range and versatility (possibly better technique as well) and she can give grown men chills like it's nobodies business but when it comes to squeezing happy tears out of your soul with that lighter than air flute like notes, No one, not even Floor can hold a candle to Sharon den Adel.
If you wanna cover "The Great Four" you should check out Epica (Simone Simons) and Anneke von Geirsbergen.
Along with Floor and Sharon these are the four Dutch angles of metal.
All women, all Dutch, all gorgeous and all absolutly phenomenal.

I'm Swedish, I live at the epicenter of melodic metal and I've been a heart, soul and body fan of Nightwish since 1996.
I was one of the people who thought Nightwish was *over* when Tarja left.
She will always have her own and very special place in my heart.
"the great four" is not my opinion but an acutal name for Floor, Simone, Sharon and Anneke and its a paradigm created because four women of Dutch background are now in the top of the all time excellent frontliners in metal, it's not necessarily a ranking list of the all time best.
1) I'm not saying they're superior to *everyone* else, just that they're at the pinnacle of the genre, which they are.
2) No matter how great Tarja is (and she *is,* no argument here) she's not really active anymore, not in the way she was.
3) No matter how much I love Tarja, and I do, Floor is a better singer, probably Sharon too, Tarja has a higher level register and is more versatile but listen to them live and Sharon is *way* cleaner.
Simone and Tarja is a toss up, Tarja is probably a way better singer technically and range wise but Simone is a better fit in her element.. If that makes sense.
When it comes to Anneke I've heard enough to know she's brilliant but not enough to compare her to the others so I'll let that be unspoken.
If you wanna stick with this sound for Within Temptation then try Dangerous- ft. Howard Jones (one of the singers from Killswitch Engage) or Paradise- ft Tarja Turunen (first singer for Nightwish). These songs are relatively newer given how long they've been a band. As for older songs it's hard to pick for me honestly but, one of my favorites is Hand of Sorrow.
Howard is a fakking beast, one of the most underrated singers in metal.

Within Temptation is one of the top three Symphonic Metal bands (alongside Nightwish and Epica). This particular song is still Symphonic Metal, but with a twist. So, this one is a Hybrid, I guess? Like Nightwish, Within Temptation defies being put in any one box and they constantly cross genre lines. Lots of their stuff can be found on normal media. One of their songs (All I Need) was even featured in an episode of a weekly television program (The Vampire Diaries). They have guest vocalists often, including Tarja Turunen, the original vocalist of Nightwish. It's all connected. :)

While I'd consider Nightwish and Epica symphonic metal, I personally consider Within Temptation to be symphonic rock. Not as hard an edge to them, but still awesome, and I've been a fan for years.
What I REALLY want to know is what the hell they put in the water in the Netherlands. Within Temptation and Epica are both Dutch bands, and Floor Jansen is also Dutch. 3 of the most badass vocalists in music are all from this one tiny western European country.

ScorpioJoe go back to the first albums of w t. They changed and i personally like it that way. There are also recordings of sharon on , liefde voor muziek, where she sings differend styles.
I've been trying to get you to react to within temptation since you had 4k subs.. now you know why.. she has also preformed with Floor and many others.. Sharon is one of the original symphonic singers!! And her live shows are even better.. black symphony and metropole orchestra tour was some of the best live music you will listen to

Ah, gorgeous wonderful Sharon! 😍 She has a truly beautiful voice. WT are a great band. Try Angels, Memories, Ice Queen, What Have You Done, The Howling, Our Solemn Hour amongst others. So many fab songs.

So.. Within Temptation is a band from the Netherlands, same as Floor Jansen and started in the 90's. It was the biggest band during Floor Jansens time in After forever.
Check out Floor Jansen and Henk Poort with Phantom of the Opera, with the original dutch guy, playing the dutch version 30 years ago and Floor always wanted to perform with him.

Xzibit is super respected in metal community very few rappers are Eminiem, Xzibit, Cypress Hill, D12, Ice T, Ice Cube, ICP. Ther is kore can't think of them they open for metal bands as well we never complain lol.

Tarja, Nightwish original lead singer...yes the one singing on the video you covered of Nightwish "Phantom of the Opera"...will probably give you same vibe as Epica... Sanc Terra ft. Within Temptation is one of my favorite bands. They were considered symphonic metal and probably one of their better albums is Unforgiven which is storylike. With their latest album they are dropping the symphonic part and trying to break out of the genre. Might want to check out The Reckoning feat Jacoby Shaddix (from Papa Roach)

within temptation is symphonic metal. one of my favorites equal only to nightwish. while some others mostly play prerecorded clips they traveled around with a full orchestra pit and choir. you want a powerful surprise, listen to "lost". such a huge voice comes out of that girl. for a good example of the choir, listen to "in the middle of the night". my favorite however has to be "iron" . its a heavy jam with truly inspirational lyrics. "you cant live without the fire. its the heat that makes you strong. 'cause you're born to live and fight it all the way. you cant hide what lies inside you . its the only thing you know. you'll embrace it and never walk away ... don't walk away !"

Within Temptation - Shot in the Dark
Symphonic Goth Metal is always funny how Goth music goes so under the radar by mainstream music listeners, but people want it to hate on it while listening to our music lol. The Cure, Duran Duran, The Cranberries, Rammstein, Evanescence its just super funny that people hate on something yet these bands hit the top of the charts all the time and are some of the most memorable bands that's is what we create. I have literally had people shitting on goth culture and music saying it sounds like shit while saying their favorite band is the Cure lol.
Just wanna throw out that Xzibit was born in Detroit, and grew up in my hometown Albuquerque, NM.
They've evolved from goth metal to Symphonic metal to new metal...
Oh, my favourite band, I'm happy that you liked it! Check out some more Within Temptation, for example some of their live stuff from Black Symphony dvd (any song really) but don't be to attached to "symphhonic metal" category, Within Temptation is one of those bands that changes style of their music and is not afraid to experiment in terms of sound :) One thing that remains is quality, thhey are great musicians.

I was surprised at first but then I thought "Linkin Park" is rap and metal and it works so well. I love XZibit and again I have all of XZibits CDs :) And "Within Temptation" is a great band too. I liked your reaction :)
Within Temptation is symphonic metal with a little Goth added. They began around the same time as Nightwish. They are another Dutch band. Check out their song "Dangerous" featuring Howard Jones. Within Temptation is not a Christian band.

Within Temptation is symphonic metal for sure. Different from Nightwish that you were hearing before, they are on the lighter side (not on weight per se, but the overall feeling of the songs), which is complemented well by Sharon's more angelic voice. For more symphonic metal, try more Epica with Storm the Sorrow, or Delain with Burning Bridges or We Are The Others

Within Temptation is one of the big 3 symphonic metal bands along with Nightwish and Epica. They actually started out the same year as Nightwish in 1996. The singer Sharon Den Adel is a self taught singer who never had any musical training., which is hard to believe with her amazing angelic voice. The band has been around for so long that their sound has evolved and changed many times but manage to stay great. Thank the Gods y'all are believers in the Mandela Effect. OMG. Don't even get me started. But, you mentioned the matrix as well in this video. So I now have a movie suggestion for you, (unless you've already seen it) you can find it on Hulu and it is literally called The Mandela Effect. Watched it with my boyfriend last night and it caused us to break into a good hour to two hours of conspiracy theories. I recommend that movie, obviously not as a reaction as it is a 80 minute movie, but y'all have to just see it.

They've gone a bit light for me in recent years, Epica is my band of choice, but Sharon remains compelling. She is genre proof, a bit like Matt Bellamy in Muse. While she's singing everything is good

Most amazing fact about Within Temptation,is that Sharon never took any vocal classes. She is completely self taught. Sharon was actually invited to become the third vocalist after Anette for Nightwish,but of course she denied as she didnt want to leave her hubbie/boyfriend and Within Temptation behind. Im thankful as a Floor-a-holic,because now we got both Floor and Sharon fronting 2 massive,epic,insanely good bands!
