    Jamie Osborne is without doubt the player of the series, making his first team debut out of position in the most testing environment in rugby, against SA who win by drawing errors from kicks, he was impeccable, showed immense bravery and maturity and essentially doubled as a centre on some attacks, what a call from Andy Farrell.

      He attacks the line with real intensity. His aerial game is top drawer and he has a huge left boot on him. Very exciting prospect indeed and just what Ireland needed. Keenan going with the 7s turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise.

    Whe you compare this dg to the Sexton 42 phases against France, we thought that was amazing, but it was incredibly hard work to get close enough for the kick, Frawleys was reminiscent of the ABS at their best, it was precise clinical excellence. If you watch Frawley seconds before Blade passes, he just stood looking around, not showing any sign that he was about to kick, not sure if this was to fool the boks defence, or just his demeanour, but simply unbelievable from Ireland

  • @brendanpeacock4475
    @brendanpeacock4475 Месяц назад +10

    I'm 15 minutes in and these guys haven't mentioned Ireland's narrow, congested midfield attack. I believe that's what really won the game. Put under physical pressure, the Springboks tried kicking (not contestably enough) but the Irish just took possession and kept the ball moving like that game where you have to guess which cup the ball is under. The Springboks just couldn't stop the movement for long periods of time - depriving them of opportunities to attack. They only really found some parity in the second half before Ireland again thought smartly to get the ball back from the gain line for drop kicks. As a South African, I envy Ireland's attack the most.

    Great to see Bernard, an influential figure in Irish rugby, calling out the farce at Leinster with Frawley, their best 10, not getting any game time there. Humphreys should launch an investigation into what’s really going on there, everyone can see that Frawley is a better player than Byrne apart from Cullen. Three years trophyless with that squad of players presents an obvious problem and it’s clearly the 10 jersey

      Wasn’t Sexton at 10 for two of those three years? I agree that Frawley deserves game time at 10 and is probably better than Byrne (either of them) overall, but it’s not fair to blame Ross Byrne exclusively for Leinster choking in the big games.

    • @eoinh3816
      @eoinh3816 Месяц назад +3

      Sexton played the 2022 CC final, when he was on the field they lead the whole game, when Ross Byrne came on they lost it. Byrne started the Bulls semi that year, which Sexton tried to come on and rescue but the damage was already done as they were too far behind. Sexton didn’t feature in a single knockout for Leinster last year, not even a single minute. The 10 is the most influential figure in the game, to say Byrne doesn’t deserve blame is just cringey and a bit delusional.

    • @eoinh3816
      @eoinh3816 Месяц назад +1

      @@grahamshaw3802The reason the 10 is the most talked about position in rugby is because it’s by far the most important. Nothing to do with easy blame or any nonsense like that. Tight games come down to the 10 and if Ntamack was there for France at the World Cup they’d likely be champions.

      Sexton was in place for most of those losses but yeah Frawley would be a better OH than either Byrne. It’s been quite obvious for a while. Leinster have been the natural leaders of the talent pool in the 4 provinces for a time now but the fact that they have underperformed at the finals level of competitions tells us that we need to change the emphasis, tactically and talent wise. The only way to do that is give players and combinations from the other provinces a go when the opportunities arrise.

    • @fawltyoldboybasil.2178
      @fawltyoldboybasil.2178 Месяц назад +1

      Well Leinster are going to have to make a decision (one way or the other) about Ciaran Frawley. If they persist in shuffling him around the back line like they have been doing, I hope he moves to another team/province. I'm not sure how much more Leo Cullen needs to see of Ross Byrne in the 10 jersey but, apparently Andy Farrell has seen enough.

    • @JohnSmith-wo2fz
      @JohnSmith-wo2fz Месяц назад

      TBH I don't think their shortcomings are tactics or talent. They've done well in the finals they've played. The problem is the few % you get from leadership/coaches motivating the players and getting them to the right emotional level. Lancaster is a fantastic coach but he could never squeeze that few % out of a team to win the big games. Andy Farrell is someone who can squeeze that few % out. Leo = useless.

    Immensely frustrating match to watch from a Springbok perspective. Ireland started well, but in the second 20 minutes of the match, the Boks had 6 22 entries and only scored 3 points. Ireland defended bravely, but the Boks were also to blame. The second half was much stronger and I genuinely thought we would sneak it. Well played to Ireland, they fronted up well and deserved the win (although I hate saying it) based on their first half performance.

If I was the IRFU higher ups I'd have leo clearing his desk and being moved on. Interesting question now that we have seen Osborne at 15, might the semifinal against the Bulls have gone differently if he had been there for Leinster? O’Brien v Leroux was a noticeable mismatch in that game. On a related note, Bulls and SA both lost their last games that they were expected to win after losing Leroux, and Leroux played a big role in each of them winning the previous game.

Did you press Humphreys on what "not going to be looking too kindly on players" means exactly? What punitive measures might the IRFU dream up for players if Jamie Osbourne, Sam Prendergast, Max Deegan, Scott Penny, Jack Crowley, Robert Balacoune etc. dare to choose to stay with their home province? Surely you sought more detail out on this question with Humphreys? You said it yourselves, you can't make players change province, if they simply don't want to. I'm sick of this "needs to move away from Leinster to get more game time" dialogue across the podcasts. Please oh please change the record! Marx out with fractured tibia (4-6 wks); Mostert out for 6+ wks with broken leg; Kolbe out 4-6 wks with lower leg injury; torrents of blood - Etzebeth & Mostert - you have to ask who was guilty of malicious & intentional foul play?!! Yet the Springboks are called 'physical & brutal'! Yes, Casey had concussion in the first test (not intentional), just like le Roux's concussion/HIA in the first few minutes of the 2nd test (not intentional)... but the rest is shocking and those who were guilty of intentional foul play should have been cited and properly disciplined. Two Ireland players executed the croc roll on Marx, yet only one got a mere yellow card. Totally unacceptable! Filthy, dirty, cynical play does not belong in the game. These cynical tactics need to be called out. The days of blaming the Boks for all dirty play are over. The Boks players are large and physical, especially in the scrum (huge amount of skill involved there by tighthead props like Nche), but the Boks do not purposely injure opponents. Not since Rassie has been coach.

      Sorry it's a bugbear of mine, but fellow Irish people constantly getting the population of the island wrong.
      From Chat GPT, but you can confirm it yourself easily. The population of the Republic of Ireland in 2024 is approximately 5,100,000, and for Northern Ireland, it is approximately 1,900,000. This gives a total population for the entire island of Ireland of about 7,000,000.
      It's 7 million when it comes to talking about all Ireland, such as our rugby team. Not 5 million, that's Republic only, and certainly not 6 million!

    Very strange, jackman completely wrote off Ireland had us down as a dying squad and said it. Now he changes his tune . It’s terrible that he can’t admit he got it horribly wrong . But hey failed player failed coach and now failed pundit . They write Ireland off at their peril as SA did 😂
