Just arrived home after an amazing 10 day rugby trip to SA. Like Tim my first time and loved it...thank you to all the wonderful Saffas I met, for your beautiful hospitality, your beautifful countryside, wonderful food. I was at both tests as well as Sin City, stayed in Pilensberg National Park and finally Durban. I LOVE brandy and meat so couldnt have been more at home. I was astonished and moved by the passion people have for their team and the deep love for rugby that Saffas carry. I was at several local matches.Trip of a lifetime...thank you SA from an utterly exhausted and grateful Irish fan.

To understand the excessive passion for rugby here, it must be understood in view of the pain of the past & the great complexity and troubles of our shared history. That we are turning a corner & the game that once divided a nation has now become the catalyst for healing and redemption. It is the one 'language' that is uniting us in a way that we all recognise because we can see that working together can work, and it is cataclysmic.

    Hey Tim,
I can relate to everything you said. Being French-Moroccan and married to a South African changed my whole life. I discovered a wonderful country from the first day. The people are really friendly, and I embraced the rugby culture here, significantly improving my knowledge of the sport. I learned a lot about the diversity of this country, and I still feel that I have so much more to discover
I think visiting the western cape is going to take you to another level.

Thanks for the great content, Tim. 👍
Here are a few things you can do when you visit us in Cape Town 😜:
    Cape Town list:
    - Hike Lions Head ⛰
    - Table mountain (Cable car) ⛰
    - Oranjezicht Market 🍊
    - Babylonstoren 🍇 (this is in Franschoek so plan a day trip where maybe a driver takes you so you can drink)
    - Wine farms (Constantia side/ Franschhoek side/ Stellenbosch side) 🍷 Franschhoek has a wine tram, but there is also a hop on hop off bus that takes you around Constantia wine farms.
    - Fairview 🐐
    - Kalk Bay for fish and chips at the harbour, to see the seals and just to walk around the town 🐟
    - Muizenburg to surf (you can hire a board and wetsuit) 🌊
    - Sea Point Promenade for a long walk/ cycle 🚲 (can hire bikes) [This is very close to the waterfront].
    - To see the penguins at Boulders Beach 🐧 (also nice to walk around Simon’s Town).
    - Forest walks (Safety disclaimer , although it is normally 100% fine, better to do this in the day and with groups of 2 or more): Newlands and Cecilia are stunning 🌲
    - Kirstenbosch Botanical gardens for picnics 🧺
    - Hout Bay food market 🌯
    - The Waterfront (there is a food market there as well and a trading post thing with lots of local products, and it’s so pretty to walk around by the harbour).
    - Robben Island. This is where Nelson Mandela was in prison🛳
    - Kayaking around sea point 🚣🏽‍♀️
    - The Zeitz Mocaa art gallery at the silo district (but that is V modern art). That is contemporary African art. For modern and some traditional there is the national gallery in the company gardens 🎨
    -District Six museum
    - Bo Kaap
    Bars:
    Tjing tjing
    Beerhouse
    Cause and Effect
    Publik
    Gin Bar
I hope you can do some of these.
    Joe

Tim, I was as blown away as you were. I've never been to a Bok game in my life. Been to a few Sharks games back in their glory days in Super Rugby and that was a vibe... The Bok game was something special. One of the best experiences of my life. The whole build up on the field, drinking from 11AM, to the atmosphere while you walk through the gates, the game itself and the amazing after parties!
Must tip my hat to the Irish. You guys are phenomenal! Every Irish person we met was nothing but friendly, and appreciative of all the good gestures. Great banter and great fun. Ireland is now my back up team for sure. There was one young oke who was just crying while hugging his Irish flag. There were plenty a South African fan congratulating the Irish after the game and buying each other beers. If it wasn't for my Liver, I would do that every weekend if I could. What an incredible day.
    Cheers Tim, travel safe!

"...be like wild dogs". When Rassie said that in Chasing the Sun, every South African knew exactly what he meant. I am so glad that you are getting to connect those dots and are able to then share it with the non South Africans who also watched chasing the Sun. We lost the second test against Ireland but there is so much depth not only to the talent in South Africa but to the background story of every single player that you cannot even count that as a loss. The documentary only produced snippets of the backstory reality for many of the star players and hence why "hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie" rings so true for every person in this country. It kills me that out country is a slave to its own factional idealogy. I am so glad that you have been able to showcase the best of the country and when you head to Cape Town you are in for a real treat Tim. Keep doing what you do, you are fast becoming THE ambassador for Rugby and for South Africa!!
