Loved this video. Made me homesick for the bush. Africa has got under your skin now; you will always yearn to go back. It's just the way it is. Africa is a place your feet may leave, but your heart will always be. Maybe because it's where we all came from, way back in the beginning. That vast, dusty Continent where the oldest roads are elephant paths. You'll always be welcomed back.
Another interesting Wild Dog fact is that when the pack has eaten they rush back to their den where they regurgitate the food for the young to eat and also the injured wild dogs that have stayed behind to protect the young. Wild Dogs are the epitome of a loyal, ruthless team.

That's why so many of us stay here regardless of the problems the country might have. The risk is worth the reward. It's also why I don't begrudge players that get homesick and struggle to adjust in Europe despite the massive paydays. I've had a similar experience to your leopard one, but with a massive male lion on a game drive in Botswana. Just that brief second of eye contact was humbling. It set my lizard brain on fire and triggered a fight or flight response like nothing I had ever experienced before. I still remember it like yesterday, despite it being more than a decade ago.
We just returned from SA where we took some US friends to experience our country for the first time. They had all the same emotional sentiments that you described. SA is a special place. Your family will love it too.
As a South African you just take so much of this stuff for granted. Wonderful reminder of the little details that make going to the bush a completely unique experience.
Made me instantly homesick. I left 8 years ago. I used to live in the kzn Midlands and my local indoor swimming pool was situated inside a game reserve. I would come out the pool to zebras, buck standing near by. The local school Hilton College is also on a game reserve, and driving down to the river just seeing giraffe and lots of buck on the way down for a swim was just special. The farmer behind our house had a large lake and as I walked around it one day, an otter's head came up out of the water with a fish in its mouth. These were just personal moments that were not unusual but always special. Every country has its unique beauty, and right now thanks to you, I have relived a bit of mine.

You said when you were here that you were going to share a video about the bush experience, so couldn’t wait. And it did not dissappoint. I think a lot of people could learn respect for another like Tim does. Not only openness to explore, but on Rugby vidoes the care that has gone into improving pronunciation of names. As for the bush, especially that area of the Greater Kruger where Simbavati is, it’s something you want to share. We’ve taken exchange students, German language correspondence pen pals, South Africans who grew up in far away Cape Town, since I can remember. Everytime to experience the thrill of sharing the experience of someone who has not been there, it is all the excitement all over again. About South Africa, we are often cynical because of many problems and well publicised challenges, it just means the world to hear an outsider’s perspective that highlights the good. Thanks for that!
As always, great video Tim. It truly is life changing going to the bush. It's like seeing into the past to where it all began. Every foreigner that's come with me has almost been brought to tears by the humbling feeling and beauty of it all. Just a simple thing that we take for granted like looking up at night and seeing stars as you've never seen them before or sitting down at breakfast and hearing absolutely nothing. It gets under your skin!
Tim, I think I speak for all Saffers when I say I absolutely love that you are enjoying our country so much. There are a lot of misconceptions about South Africa, and you are going a long way to show who we really are.
I loved this. Thank you so much. We emigrated to SA way back in 75. I only went to the Kruger in the early 80's. Changed my life, knowing that the sun was rising and setting every day on a place like that. Also made me need to stay in SA and have those places a drive away, don't ever want to leave. Countless stories, seen loads of wild dogs, not many cheetah. Prefer self drives and field guides, the privacy and freedom and the unknown. Thank you your enthusiasm and look for this country. Xxx
Tim, last year my wife and I were in the Timbavati. Sunset Game drive, stopped for drinks. Probably one too many. Standing around talking, and it got dark. Kept sipping a beer, telling bush stories and then heard a noise behind us. Turned around, turned on a torch and saw the Eastern Bank Pride of Lions crouched down about 10 meters from us. We obviously survived, and got to watch the Lions sniffing our biltong on the snack table from the comfort of our game vehicle. But the slow and steady “don’t run” walk to the vehicle was the longest walk of my life.
Oh man! That's one of my biggest fears when stopping for sundowners in the bush. Glad everyone got away unscathed. Can only imagine what that must've felt like walking and getting back on the Landy with a pride of lions watching you. 👀
Hey Tim thank you for the videos and for showing the best of our country ! Our bush is a very special place it’s where you find your soul. We have to respect the animals.
Loved this! Brings joy to my heart when someone discovers the magic of our country (in all its different forms!). The pros far outweigh the cons and I wouldn’t dream of calling anywhere else home! 🇿🇦💚💛💚🇿🇦
When I saw our country through your eyes, I realized that I have become so blaze about the beauty surrounding me every day. I just take it for granted. Thank you for opening my eyes again to live with gratitude for what we have on our doorstep.
Many South Africans don't get to experience rugby matches live, let alone Game drives (Nature Reserves). Being those of the lucky who've experienced both, I want to thank you for broadcasting it to not just the world, but fellow South Africans who take for granted or those who do not have the means to do so. Thank you so much Tim. There are no words to express what many Saffas feel for you and just the humility you bring to the fan game as well as the aspect of respect of South Africa

It doesn't matter how many elephants I've seen in my life all over Africa, watching them never gets old. They are such emotional and intelligent animals. Two highlights are experiencing their low rumbles of communication and observing an elephant calf 'playing' with a small buck. There's always something new to see with elephants.
Tim , Its great that you share your journeys with us . I lived in South Africa for 36 years , returning to the UK 5 years ago , nothing can describe the vistas , the sunsets , the hardness of the sun , the incredible beauty of nature's kingdom . I would give you a list of places to go to , that would honestly take you 6 months to get round to them all and each time you would only scratch the surface in that visit .
Beautiful video Tim. I live in t he KZN Midlands near Pietermaritzburg. You've reminded me how we take what we have such easy access to on a daily basis, for granted. African sunsets are special. Especially in winter when there is a lot of dust in the air. Looking fwd to your coverage of the ABs soon. Again, you're always welcome to have some special steaks from our braai 🍺
Tim, you are not overstating your experience. I have been on many game drives but have never seen a leopard. That is very special. And no, seeing elephants is never like seeing cows. They are the most special animals. Wise, and from another time. Love your work. Please may you get to share this experience with your family one day. Will look out for you in Cape Town in a couple of weeks!
Same. Been on many game drives and to Kruger 5 or 6 times. Never seen a leopard like that. Once saw a tail hanging out of a very lush and green tree. That was the closest.
The peace and tranquility of Big5 east Africa is fabulous for us SA's alternating between beach and bush holidays. I am so happy for your unforgettable experience. Did your guide told you about the meticulous timetable that Elephants stick too? If you arrive at the same time in the future at That water hole, you will likely find the same group of Elephants. You were fortunate to see Rhino they have dissappear at a alarming rate in my 25 years of travels in Kruger. LEOPARDS my favourite but don't muck around with them, they as unpredictable as the Rassie bench selection.
You should see the cape ....provinces....in South Africa A whole different planet and natural beauty....The Northen Cape with its desert....the Western Cape with its Fynbos and the Eastern Cape with the beautiful Karoo
Yes the wine country of the Cape, Two Oceans restaurant on the peninsula at Cape Point, and Tim’s kids will love hanging out with the jackass penguins at Simons Town. And Cape Town itself: certainly a candidate for most beautiful city on the planet. (And yes, I’ve been to Paris - lived there three full summers - as well as Barcelona, Rome, San Francisco, Kyoto, Prague and many times to Amsterdam, so I have places to compare. Kapstad is a very special city in a very special part of a very special country.)
The north has the game farms, the south has the WINE farms… the oldest in the Southern Hemisphere! You’re going to have a massive jol on your next trip!
Great video. The Sunrise Safari game drives kept me hopeful during 5 weeks of lockdown. Such a reminder of a world out there, nothing like being in the bush to feel alive. Being in the bush teaches patience. One long game drive rewarded us with the rare sighting of a pack of wild dogs making their way down the dirt track. Awesome. Had never seen them before. Wondering if your early morning coffee was sweet with condensed milk. Only time I ever have sweet coffee - in the bush.
Loved the video -years ago my wife and I went to Londolozi game reserve-it was amazing -and the stars apart from the animals were the wonderful people-trackers, spotters, lodge staff - truly a wonderful nation
Awesome...waiting for Episode 2 in the Bush in KZN. I really think you are beginning to understand why South Africans are so protective and passionate about their country. We have lots of issues, (like it seems most countries nowadays) but we draw on the good things in life and in our country. Thank you for sharing your experiences and all the Rugby chat. It really is enjoyable. Take Care.
Tim, you’re spot on … first time I took my kids there my eldest daughter said “Dad, it feels like I’m somewhere where nothing else matters … this is heaven, I don’t care about the rest of the world.” The animals are a bonus to the solitude and peace… hope you come back for me. Also I agree, elephants are the BEST animals on earth. Majestically beautiful
I worked at an animal preserve in North West, some twenty years ago. And the animals I got to bond with first, were the wild dogs. So their hunting is something else. There is all kinds of yapping and clicking going on between them the whole time, and they surround their prey item. They will have runners that basically just run a circle around the prey in order to draw their attention. Almost like a dummy runner on a rugby field. Then they'll have what I call the intimidator squad, where they will more or less in your face, with little darting runs from side to side. Lastly, there will be an animal or two coming up your rear and they'll go for the shin. While it looks absolutely chaotic, they each have very specific roles related to subterfuge and a few animals pipped to make the strike.
Wow, aren't those Elephants just majestic! You have memories for a lifetime here. Thanks for sharing your experience with us. SA is such a beautiful Country. And our food is great. And then we have The Boks too! 🇿🇦🥇🏉
Hi Tim, the bush is just the tip of this amazing iceberg. There is still Capetown, West Coast, Karoo, Stellenbosh, Namakwaland, Mpumalanga, and so much more. See you at Ellispark
Well done Tim. I am so pleased that you had the real African experience. As a born African (70 years ago) and being a bush fanatic I have to agree with you about Elephant. They are the best. Did you hear the cry of the Fish Eagle?
Yayyyy!!! Been so looking forward to this. When you've been going to the game reserve since you were a kid, you don't get to experience the thrill of seeing this amazing wildlife for the first time. The closest you can get is seeing someone else's "first time" reaction and I am so looking forward to seeing yours.😊
Tim you should without question do different types of videos, like videos on the countries. Fantastic idea, you have the talent for it and are well liked by so many people. Don't limit yourself to just rugby, I am convinced you will have over a million followers with some hard work, but I think you have found your calling and will love every minute of it 👍
Brilliant! We love Simbavati River Lodge and we’re actually making a RUclips video on it this week. Full review of the lodge. I’m so glad you enjoyed your stay there, you’re such a great advocate for South Africa! Love the rugby content too of course! I hope you’re doing another trip to the bush when you’re here for the nz games 🐾😁
Tim im glad you made time to see our wildlife as a South African I love our nature and animals it's the most beautiful part of our country to me. My dad and mom love camping and on school vacations we would go to the kruger park and nature reserves like pilansberg just amazing memories funny ones too like baboons stealing our food. Chased by a elephant in pilanesberg.. a lion roar in the camp at night that makes you think the lion is inside the camp. 😂 Now you have one too!!
I remember going on a night game drive as a kid (don't think you're allowed to anymore) and hearing lion calls seemingly from every direction...next thing we know there are springbok running everywhere around us, chaos...and then a kill literally 5m from where I was sitting in the open top land-rover in the pitch black and only able to see where the guide was shining the big spotlight...there was a moment where the springbok stopped in the light and then disappeared in a blur of lioness bulk...core memory right there. Love South Africa. Travelled to so many wonderful places around the world, but I always end up back home.
Great appreciation and explanation of Rassie's use of the phase 'Wilde Honde'. Situ explanation. OORAH! 💪👆🙌♥️

Well done on taking time to visit the bush. As much as you describe it as peaceful and tranquil, which it is - at times. This serenity can turn to hectic, violent and traumatic in seconds as any of the predators take their fill of buck, bush pigs, the occasional tourist or similar animals. When the sun sets the life in the bush takes a whole new level of anxiety for the herbivores as food for the carnivores. Thanks for the insights into your bush visit. And enjoy Ellis Park on 31 August.

I started watching you prior to the RWC, and I followed you through France. You really get the game and showcase the saga in a way that I think every rugby fan shares. Your trip to SA has been a pleasure to follow. I'm really chuffed you added a segment of the bush experience. My only regret was that I missed seeing you at my local (Wings Club) in Durban!
@@LG-nw3mq A moment we will never forget. That, and being chased by a White Rhino for 6 minutes on our honeymoon trip! The video is up on my channel.
Absolutely Amazing Video. South African Minister of Tourism at it Again!
The best view in the world, is watching the springboks setting in the scrum.
Lovely to see your documentary of your entire trip including non-rugby experiences. Like to see more! 🙏
Hi Tim , you never ever get used to the beauty of the African Bush and the animals, you see Gods hand in it every day.
Wonderful video on SA- looking forward to seeing the beauty of all the rugby playing countries through your videos.
Elephants are cool to see every time Tim, never get tired of it. To tell you the truth I like seeing cows every time too
Beautiful video Tim.
I've never seen leopard in the bush either. Lucky man
Tim this on another level🇿🇦💥we love your channel here in South Africa.
You should see the cape ....provinces....in South Africa
A whole different planet and natural beauty....The Northen Cape with its desert....the Western Cape with its Fynbos and the Eastern Cape with the beautiful Karoo
Any egg chaser video is not going to disappoint
The rugby content makes me a better rugby spectator….but I’ll watch this any day.
The north has the game farms, the south has the WINE farms… the oldest in the Southern Hemisphere! You’re going to have a massive jol on your next trip!
That was great, Tim. Please keep them coming.
Can't wait for the next one!
I'm a Saffa, South Africa one if not the most beautiful place in the world
Great video.
A-flippin mazing Tim! Thanks for accentuating the love we feel for this semi desert moon
Tim, you're authentic. No better way to advertise your channel. Stay that way!
Great video. Looking forward to the Cape Town content. As much as I love KZN being a Durban girl, the Cape is something else 😊
Well done Tim. I am so pleased that you had the real African experience. As a born African (70 years ago) and being a bush fanatic I have to agree with you about Elephant. They are the best. Did you hear the cry of the Fish Eagle?
A pleasure to watch your channel Tim.
Don't limit yourself to just rugby, I am convinced you will have over a million followers with some hard work, but I think you have found your calling and will love every minute of it 👍
Tim might be the best African ambassador 🙌🏼🇿🇦
So glad you enjoyed my country, and I believe you now know why I will never leave this country!
OORAH! 💪👆🙌♥️
Tim, if you aren't an honorary South African by now, you definitely deserve to be. Thank you for your podcast, I watch it every day.
I hope you have a wonderful time in SA again. Go Bokke!
See the latest Eggchasers upload and I just have to watch.
You have made me utterly homesick. I miss South Africa and her people and her wildlife. I think 2025 will be a good time to go home for a holiday and restore my soul.
Thank you for such a wonderful video. It's so awesome to see my homeland through the eyes of someone who is experiencing it for the first time❤
When can we 'knight' you as an honorary South African🇿🇦
So nice to see you enjoying many aspects of our Great South Africa. Keep posting your amazing content and your numbers will just keep growing. Cheers Mark
I have been waiting for this video since you left SA!! My wife and I loved tracking your trip in SA and could not wait for your videos during the trip. Thank you for coming to our wonderful country and I hope that every time you come you have the best time ever because you definitely deserve it!
You are a very special human being. Warms my heart that you appreciated this country so much. Forwarded this to my son who lives in UK.
So glad you're sharing your wonderful memories with the world. We do have a beautiful country. 🇿🇦😍
Enjoy next week, and safe travels.
I still feel the same way about the bush and the country after experiencing and living here for many years. Having lived abroad for a long time too, it’s difficult to find somewhere that compares
Hi Tim! South Africa is a beautiful country and I am glad to hear that you will be bringing your family to experience it for themselves. If you enjoy elephants, you need to go to the Chobe in Botswana and watch them play in the river. Also pop through to see the Victoria Falls. Thank you for your excellent videos!
Excellent the way you put together and presented this video Tim...well done! I could really sense your excitement. So good for the soul and difficult to explain to someone who hasn't experienced it. Looking forward to your upcoming coverage with the All Blacks.
Wild Dogs can teach you a lot about life a d importance of support and teamwork. Not just in sport amd rugby, but how to survive the game of life.
Well done Tim, you’re doing a far better job selling South Africa than our Tourism Authorities. Tourist ambassador par excellence!
Never been to SA but been to Kenya and it was fantastic to see the animals doing their thing. Like you I loved the elephants. The rest were fantastic too but love elephants.
We have been fortunate to travel on holidays all over the world. Our best holiday ever remains our trip to Timbavati in Kruger National Park. I agree with every word of this video. Thank you.
Can't wait to see more of this content when you return with your family.
Love the work Tim. CPT will blow your mind as well
