No. The stadium organist doesn't play the stadium, the church organist doesn't play the church and the guy in the bell tower doesn't play a building, stop commenting this, this isn't a good meme
Imagine going to a baseball game as a kid and hearing the organ thinking nothing of it then growing up and end up interviewing that same guy from many years ago.. amazing
What he says at 7:10 is pretty interesting. His ability to read the crowd and dynamically soundtrack the game is no doubt why they've kept him employed for 30 years

Watching the Pirates at Cubs game right now, and they just announced that you will be retiring following the 2019 season, after 33 years and never missing a day. I mean, WOW...33 years! What an amazing tenure Gary! I've been a devoted Chicago Cubs fan, since my first grade year, back in 1990. So since you began as the Cubs Organist in 1987, I've been listening to your wonderful numbers since I was 5 to 6 years old. Mind boggling! The numbers you mentioned for players, brings back a ton of memories from my childhood, but the one that really hit home, was when you mentioned when Harry Caray would say: "Alright Gary, LET ME HEAR YA!" My God...I remember that so, very vividly! 😁 I'm actually from South, Texas, near Corpus Christi. But I became a fan back in 1990, due the time of WGN being a Superstation during that time, just like when TBS used to be, and they would always broadcast the Cubs games during the season nationally(along with the Bulls). Living so far from Chicago, I have always dreamt to visit the Friendly Confines, and have even said: "to also hear those classic tunes from the organist." I don't think I'll get that previalge to do so. But, it has been an absolute pleasure to know that I've grown up listening to your craft, and you have been a part of my lifelong experience as a Chicago Cubs fan! I bid you adieu and Godspeed Mr. Gary Pressy. And once again...it has been an absolute pleasure listening to your work my whole life! -Steve (P.S. Really nice and pleasant interview. @@Skip6235Teams can often have some unofficial maskot who's pretty darn untouchable or they'll get the wrath of their fans. Not really one of the players, but someone behind the scenes who doesn't rely on their abilities in sports. What they need is unfailing loyalty as well as a distinct personality that clicks with the fans. In the hockey team I'm watching it's the storekeeper. This is very much a east end team so it's a former drug addict who's now only addicted to Coka Cola. Fitting, eh?

These musical interviews are absolutely amazing! Extremely entertaining, informative, and well produced content. Your videos just keep getting better and better. Thanks Rob :)
I have not watched a minute of baseball in my life - It's not a thing in Denmark - But listening to this interview, the quick pieces of music, and the nostalgic feeling from the interviewer really makes me want to go to a game one day! Thanks guys!
PLEASE keep doing this kind of stuff. It's so unique along with the church organ video and really is fascinating. (and that's coming from a metal "drummer") :)
Great vision Rob. I am from Australia and the Cubbies have been a favourite since 1984, I viisited Wrigley for a game way back in 1991 and will always remember Harry conducting the fans from his box directly above us. I guess it was Gary tickling the ivories as we sang along. All the best to him. A wonderful and unforgettable visit. Go the Cubbies.
This is so cool! Everyone uses pre-recorded tracks now, so it's so awesome that they still have him actually play the organ live for games. So much respect for him!
Man Gary is just such a joyful character and is so understanding. I don't know anything about baseball or organ but I would love to just sit down and have a conversation with him.
I was walking to Wrigley one day for a game, and we were on a rain delay. He played "raindrops keep falling on my head" and we could hear it from outside the park. ❤️⚾💙
Just read an article that this guy is retiring. unfortunate to hear but he is forever a legend and hopefully he quit on his own and wasn't forced out by the cubs. baseball just isn't the same without an organ player
As a non US viewer who never had any interest in baseball (I barely understand how it´s played) I came to the conclusion that Rob Scallon is probably the only guy able to get me watching a 19 minutes video filmed in a baseball stadium.
I recommend you go to a game sometime in your life whether its a minor league game or a major league game. Baseball is also really easy to learn. Btw baseball is so much better in person rather than on TV.
@@GabrielNardinMusic In baseball, democracy shines its clearest. The only race that matters is the race to the bag. The creed is the rule book. And color, merely something to distinguish one team's uniform from another's.
@@GabrielNardinMusic baseball is a perfect metaphor for hope in a democratic society. It has to do with the rules of play. It has to do with the mode of enforcement of these rules. It has to do with certain nuances and grace notes of the game. First, it’s the remarkable symmetry of everything. All those threes and multiples of three - calling attention to - virtually making a fetish of the game’s noble equality. Equality, that is, of opportunity. Everyone is given exactly the same chance. And the opportunity to exercise that chance at his own pace.
Rob i love how you went from unconventional instuments, to one of the most common household instruments, that every midwestern home from the 60s . i love how crazy the beats are, its not even like just one even tempo, he's playing for a full band and keeping it cool. He's sweet
I'm not from America, I have had zero exposure to baseball (except for the batting minigame in the Yakuza games) and yet this was immensely educational. I really like these left-field curveball vids in between the instrument showcases. Well done!

@@Skip6235 Plot twist Gary actually runs the team. The owner works for HIM. That's not true, it's just a nice fantasy lol.
This video hit me right in the feels Rob. Your content is always top notch.
he recently retired and was honored by the cubs! go gary and happy retirement!

This man has the exact spirit that sports creates. The pure joy on his face and the dedication he shows is inspired. He deserves way more credit for what he does
Speaking as an airline pilot, all keyboard instruments are way more confusing to me than a cockpit
I started playing piano at the age of 3. By the time I was 15 I had racks of old school analog synthesizers. I would probably look at the cock pit of your aircraft and get a brain lock. I would be looking at every device and switch in there. I've always been fascinated how you guys fly those huge airliners. Great skill you guys have and I so very much appreciate all you do.
now you know how we feel.
PETR NO KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE SKY STOP LOOKING AT YOUR PHONE
Eh, autopilot has the controls.
Hey do we really need to switch our device to airplane mode while flying
These musical interviews are absolutely amazing! Extremely entertaining, informative, and well produced content. Your videos just keep getting better and better. Thanks Rob :)
The people in Wrigleyville must have been rather confused when this interview was happening.
Also, this man needs to be inducted into the Hall of Fame
I have not watched a minute of baseball in my life - It's not a thing in Denmark - But listening to this interview, the quick pieces of music, and the nostalgic feeling from the interviewer really makes me want to go to a game one day! Thanks guys!
PLEASE keep doing this kind of stuff. It's so unique along with the church organ video and really is fascinating. (and that's coming from a metal "drummer") :)
Look no further than browsing my channel containing hundreds of church/pipe organ covers for your enjoyment. 😉
Never saw a baseball-game, not an organist, but that was very entertaining. Thx.
I love how genuine both of these guys are! What a legend Gary is playing that organ for 30 years!
Being a big Cubs fan, this was great. Awesome that you got to meet Gary and he let you play the Cubs organ dang! Thanks Rob ⚾
Gary Pressy and Rob Scallon together at Wrigley Field talking about music. I'm not sure it can get any better than that.
maybe playing baseball at the same time?
I wonder if they were playing to the whole empty stadium the whole time or just in their box. Just curious
Sounds like the whole stadium, but I could be wrong
I’m wondering the same
We'll never know, probably.
It couldn't harm anybody, but for the sound capture for the video, I suppose it was cabin only.
the organ pipes go outside (an assumption) so i dont see a way to get the sound only inside
Man Gary is just such a joyful character and is so understanding. I don't know anything about baseball or organ but I would love to just sit down and have a conversation with him.
What a remarkable in instrument. It can sound like anything. Great player to thanks for sharing
This is SO American, but still interesting to the rest of the world as well.
Japan loves baseball
All of America. Latin America loves baseball too.
Home run!
I was walking to Wrigley one day for a game, and we were on a rain delay. He played "raindrops keep falling on my head" and we could hear it from outside the park. ❤️⚾💙
I love this new series! Rob Scallon’s Vital Organs 😄
Rob Scallon, I love your ability to connect over music and bring a smile to everyone's face. Can't wait to see what comes next!
Just read an article that this guy is retiring. unfortunate to hear but he is forever a legend and hopefully he quit on his own and wasn't forced out by the cubs. baseball just isn't the same without an organ player
our boy rob checking out the great musicians out there, i like it
This guy seems like the most wholesome guy ever, I would love to meet him. Rob, you keep one-upping yourself with great videos. Cheers.
I love how this channell skips no subject concerning music. I mean, I LOVE IT!!!
15:29 I was waiting for this
What a great interviewee Gary is. Seems like such a cool guy. I could listen to him all day. 👍 to Rob who is always great
Thank you for this video. I hope Gary continues to live the dream. Bless him
As a non US viewer who never had any interest in baseball (I barely understand how it´s played) I came to the conclusion that Rob Scallon is probably the only guy able to get me watching a 19 minutes video filmed in a baseball stadium.
I recommend you go to a game sometime in your life whether its a minor league game or a major league game. Baseball is also really easy to learn. Btw baseball is so much better in person rather than on TV.
Baseball is democracy played out on a field
@@badcornflakes6374 Why so? (Sorry if that´s joke I didn´t catch)
He's sweet
this man doesn't deserve anything but pure happiness and joy, what a swell guy
I'm not from America, I have had zero exposure to baseball (except for the batting minigame in the Yakuza games) and yet this was immensely educational. I really like these left-field curveball vids in between the instrument showcases. Well done!
Nice to see a real ballpark and even better still has a real organist and the owner isn't too cheap to pay to have one. Kudos to both.
2600 consecutive games?! He's the Cal Ripken Jr. of organists.
Wholesome fun entertainment Rob I love it 🤘🏻♥️
Image staying up there in your little room during a late night, playing music for all of the happy people and families.
Tuna Time it be a dream for me
The phrase “salt of the earth” is really all that comes to mind. He’s just a big baseball nerd who is also a big organ nerd. He pretty much landed the best job he possibly could and he never missed a single game in 33 years. That is pretty amazing.
Exciting to see Rob with such a legend. Wish I lived in Chicago, could actually stop by Cubs games.
The first show of yours that I watch and got hooked and addicted was the Theremin. Real musician with talent, drive and devotion! Good luck dear and a lot of fame and sucess!
If this was my job, I’d rickroll the crowd at least once a year.
April 1st
i've watched this 3 times already, and will probably watch it a couple more times... there's something so wholesome about this guy...
You should do a video where the church organ guy plays the baseball organ and the baseball organ guy plays the baseball organ. Those organists really are something!
ROB, since you tend to "vibratro" the keys when you play piano, I think you should look into the Seaboard Keyboard :D
Or the Ondes Martenot!
Or the clavichord - get that sweet 14th century vibrato
@@HermelJaworski an ondes martenot would be awesome
3rd on the Ondes Martenot recommendation.
He deserves this attention! What a fun interview! Gonna be a sad day without his touch on the Wrigley experience.
I love how you’ve been in the chicago culture. This related to me because I’ve been a cubs fan since birth. In 2016 I remember the Chicago people all coming together and celebrating. Great vid
I didn't grow up a baseball fan, I didn't play or watch. I've only attended a few games with family, but somehow, baseball organ is just such a comforting and nostalgic sound to me.
that organ signature sound makes me want to go get a hotdog and beer lollll
So fast i didnt even got the notif lol
Love these Rob! Love what you do!
As a person who lives in Chicago this is like the coolest thing ever
Went to Wrigley field not too long ago. He retired but glad to see they are keeping the tradition with a new organist!
Wow, I have absolutely been conditioned. I want to eat stadium food and drink over-priced beer while watching a game now. The sound brings back so many memories so vividly.
Gary Pressy is an unsung Cubs legend.
This and that Chicago bell tower video is top shelf content.
