Not only could you go to the top of the Twin Towers, there was a rotating restaurant on top. When my wife and I got married, I promised her we would eat there. Seeing the towers in films like that gets me every time.
The toy store was FAO Schwartz. Also featured in the movie Big. Not only could you play with the toys like that, the store was so segmented that in order to see it all, you needed to go outside and re-enter another segment.

Marv taking the bricks to the head gets me every time. Even though I know that fourth brick is coming, it never fails to make me laugh.
The two "films" Kevin watches aren't actual films. They were shot specifically for Home Alone. But the titles are a nod to Angels with Dirty Faces, a 1938 James Cagney gangster film.

"What kind of hotel allows a child to check in alone?"
"The boy had a very convincing story."
"What kind of idiots do you have working here?"
    "The finest in New York."
Fun Fact: Macaulay Culkin was paid $4.5 million to star in this movie, the biggest salary ever to an eleven-year-old (at the time of filming) child actor.
Toys For Christmas Fact: All of the children who appeared in the toy store scene were allowed to take their favorite toy home as part of their salary. Even though it didn't work and was created specifically for the movie as a prop, Macaulay Culkin was allowed to keep the Talkboy. After the movie became a box office hit, Tiger Electronics created and distributed a real version of the Talkboy (along with its pink-and-purple counterpart, the Talkgirl).
Location Location Fact: This movie was actually shot at the Plaza in a Central Park suite. The phone number given for the Plaza in the movie was an actual working number. The carpet was removed from The Plaza lobby for one scene so that Macaulay Culkin could slip and slide on the floor. The Plaza owner liked it so much, he never had it refitted. The swimming pool scene was shot at the Four Seasons in Chicago, Illinois, because The Plaza Hotel doesn't have a swimming pool located on-site. The airport scenes were exponentially more difficult to shoot than the first movie. The airport had to stay operational during filming, and Macaulay Culkin's newfound celebrity status required extra security due to fans and paparazzi. The scenes at O'Hare International Airport were filmed in February 1992, and kept their Christmas decorations up for the occasion.

James - no, the black-and-white movie Kevin watches in the hotel isn't real (it's a "movie within a movie," as the terminology goes), but it is a parody of a real one. The original is a 1938 film called "Angels With Dirty Faces," which earned another James (actor James Cagney) an Oscar nomination.
As fun as "Angels With Filthy Souls" and its sequel sound, sadly, no, they are not real movies.

I know when Marv gets scared and he shrieks at the top of his lungs in a shrill voice when the pigeons are on him, it was meant to be hilarious but for me that scream still disturbs me. For years I used to think I was disturbed at the idea that he was being attacked by birds and that his scream was a result of that. But then I discovered after a while that it was just the scream alone that disturbs me. It just sounds really gut wrenching and blood curdling. And I get it that Chris Columbus the director told Dan Stern (The guy playing Marv) to make it even more hysterical and shrill than the scream he did when the spider was on him in the first movie. But it's just that his scream with the birds, I just never thought it was funny. I still to this day find it really unpleasant sounding

you're asking this of the parents who - in both movies - saw the elder brother bully and humiliate their youngest son and then blamed him for acting in response to bullying and then to bring up the fact that they didn't care enough about him in the first film to check properly and use that as a way to guilt him into doing as they wanted.

I believe Marv getting hit in the head by the bricks was why he never noticed the huge hole right in front of him until he stepped forward and fell right into the basement.
That’s similar to what happened in the original when he didn’t notice the glass ornaments on the floor until he stepped on them barefoot, after he’d been hit in the face by the iron.

FYI sir, this is one of "those" sequels that are especially maligned by critics; one that attempts to carve out a formula derived from the path of the first one, in both tone and story beats and even character development, but attempts to be less obvious by changing the location and uping the ante at points. Hangover 2 and Die Hard 2 are both infamous for this.
EDIT: Never mind; you called it.

The Home Alone movies (well mostly their third acts) are basically Bugs Bunny cartoons. I don't mind that many of those are the same plot...Elmer Fudd or Yosemite Sam want to catch Bugs. Each time it's just in a different setting and the gags are different or given a twist. I'm here for it. I'm also here for both Home Alone movies, but not any of the later ones.
    Best Regards!

Electrocution doesn’t mean “death”. You can be electrocuted and live. I don’t know why people have recently started saying the definition of “electrocute” is “death by electricity”. That’s weird for someone your age to think. Normally it’s the kids these days.

There are so many funny scenes in these movies and this one had some great supporting characters. I think I might have to make a shirt that says Sprinkles of Death and Mayhem😂😂😂

    Goofs as we go:
    1. Burglars arrested in Chicago, IL wouldn't be in jail in New York.
Twice as many pearls are on the ground than Kevin pulled off the neckless.
That brick Kevin dropped on Marv would have killed him.
Given the evaporative nature of kerosene, the volatility would be so low, the rope would barely light, if at all.
    2. They went Hollywood and recent versions eliminated the Donnald Trump scene.
    3. Tim Curry😁
    4. Mr. Duncan/Eddie Bracken also played Roy Walley in "Vacation"
    5. This was funny but, Kevin being mean was a little turnoff.

If this was made today. Kevin would at least have a cell phone and he would take a photo of the crooks with all their injuries and post it on Instagram.

Fun fact, a once great band called Brand New named one of their songs off one of my favorite album of theirs Deja Entendu off a line from this movie. "Okay, I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't." Yeah, their lead singer was not a great dude at all, which is sad. I still love the album, is that weird?

James, thank you for that reaction, You are awesome! I, like your sons, never appreciate sequels that are mere reproductions of the originals, but you made this movie far more enjoyable with your reactions. Your genuine belly laughs are contagious 🤣🤣🤣.

Ironically, I too grew up without much TV, (lived in a valley and only got 1 channel of reception), but I fully embraced VHS and watched many many movies. I began enjoying books later in life. I never enjoyed reading as a kid.
