    Sorry but I’m a novice quilter. Block 3- do you cut 2 of the 10” squares at a time and fit their pieces together to form the block or do you have to cut all the 10” squares the same? Sorry if this is a silly question.

    • @susanespinosa2591
      @susanespinosa2591 3 месяца назад

      Yes, same question.

      @@susanespinosa2591 if you want your finished blocks to be made up of only 2 different fabrics then you just need to cut 2 squares at a time, making 3 cuts will give you 4 pieces to join together in alternating fabrics. Each pair of squares will vary slightly depending on how you cut them. If you want 4 different fabrics in each finished block then layer up 4 different fabrics and make 3 cuts thus giving you 4 pieces of fabric. Once again join your fabrics in any order to make a block, once again each set of blocks will vary slightly in design depending on how you cut them. You could also use 3 squares at a time and make just 2 cuts to give you 3 different fabrics per block. Hope this makes sense.

      Not a silly question for a new quilter. Cut the number of layers you can handle. Keep in mind your blade needs to be sharp and the more layers the more likely you will have some movement causing the shape to be off a little.

      You cut four squares together and then swap to mix up the colours. Because it’s random cuts it wouldn’t work if you cut every square individually. The 4 pieces will match back up again.
      ruclips.net/video/_fPJSjjICt4/видео.htmlsi=D6DpMVC0USO6WuDl This tutorial might be useful to watch, it uses 2 cuts instead of 3 but it's the same principle.
      Hope this helps!

    Love all the blocks - thank you so much for your easy to understand tutorial. I'm looking forward to trying these out. I really can't decide which is my favorite until I try making them - I find the second and third the most visually appealing to me but I tend to go with the fastest method. Which block was the fastest for you to do? Although the blocks are layer cake intended would this also work for a 4 yard or 5 yard quilt? I know I wouldn't have the variety your finished quilts show but I've got some Kaffe and Tilda screaming at me to use!

    • @SewingStudio
      @SewingStudio  3 месяца назад +1

      Yes you can make any of these from yardage and cut 10 inch squares yourself. The fastest was the first one shown, especially if you use a chain piecing method. Hope this helps!

    I wish you had have shown the second join and folding in half etc and then perhaps a couple more slices on this square, and joining in line etc as its always hard to get them to line up all the time I find. What say I put a slice furthur up on the block, how do I line it up then? as it wont be in half where I cut across?Would appreciate a more detailed video with more splices, obvioulsy be best on a much larger square.
    Its just the technique of lining up each 'cross over'. Most grateful :)

      I did a blue and orange quilt like the second one. It was actually a free pattern from Jordan Fabrics called Layer Chops. Making a mark on each side is helpful. I try and explain in my video. But Donna Jordan explains better.

      The fabrics Katrina used in the demos were left over layer cake pieces, the range used for the finished quilt is Moda Blizzard. Hope this helps!
