I pre-ordered this from GameStop and got my copy in the mail yesterday. I'm glad to see and hear all of the positive reviews and it sounds like the pros definitely outweigh the cons, as is with pretty much any Zelda title. Right now, I'm finishing up Astro Bot, so I can't wait to sit down and play this one for sure. 😎✌🏾💯
@@andydoufreisn2973 Oh man! Astro Bot is a ton of fun. It took me a while to get to it as I had just finished Black Myth: Wukong before playing it and I have quite a backlog of other games I've bought but haven't played yet. It's better than its predecessor, Astro's Playroom in every way possible and Astro's Playroom was great too. It's one of the best 3D platformer styled games that I've played in years and it reminds me of similar PS1 & PS2 era games such as Ratchet & Clank, Jak & Daxter, Sonic Adventures 1 & 2, Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, etc. It allows so much freedom and creativity when it comes to defeating enemies and traversing platforms. Collecting trophies is a plus as well. I even got the Astro Bot controller to go with it and it definitely enhances the experience. I'm not saying you have to buy it as they've doubled the original $70 asking price on most online retailers, but if you get a good deal, I say go for it. Astro Bot is definitely worthy of the 9-10/10 reviews it's been getting from fans and critics alike. How are you liking Echoes of Wisdom by the way?
The UI is bad, no getting around that, and I for one have experienced FPS lag on my monitor, especially in more open areas like the world map. That being said, I use a 2k 165mhz monitor, so the switch doesn't really upscale all tha well into it. While annoying, it's not impactful enough to draw my attention away from the greatness and crreative freedom this game offers. I feel it's a mixture of the old and the new of Zelda tropes. Some nostalgia factor with graphical layout and art style, a return to form reintroducing dungeons, while utilizing the almost unparalleled creativity of ToTK. You can get as creative and weird in this game as your imagination can go. From drowing enemies in a little cube of water, hitching a ride on a flying baddie, to making a Moblin lunch for a Deku Baba. We're given a basic explanation on the core mechanics, and then, the sky's the limit. I feel there are improvements to be made, but this entry definitely had me cackling from the get-go. Cheers!
Honestly, I was never happier while playing a Zelda game outside Breath of the Wild. Tears of the Kingdom was not fresh, I have already played that with Breath of te Wild. I needed something fresh again. And here it is. A sequel to this might not hit the same, however. For me, this is a one time fun experience, same as Breath of the Wild was.
I make it a point to use as many of the echoes as I can to find the BEST one in for each situation, in the most creative way, to solve any little thing I come across, and that increases my personal enjoyment. I mean the enemies are not difficult, to be completely honest, and it's almost as if the niche is for recruiting the much younger generation to get into Zelda. This is a puzzle game. Because I don't want this to be a spoiler I'll leave out specifics, but quite a few of the echoes literally give Zelda abilities that may not be obvious upon first glance. Then you suddenly figure out you could have been using said echo the whole time in the newly discovered way and you smack yourself in the head. The difficulty level overall seems minimal (non-hero at least), so if you just get out of the mentality of having to get to the next phase as fast as possible and ultimately win the game, or speed run, etec, you can actually MAKE the game more fun for yourself. You can cheese any situation if you want to just finish, but somewhere within that giant bag of echoes is the perfect, creative solution that gives you satisfaction when you find it out yourself. In this respect I would say it's like TOTK when you have a zillion options to travel or fight, and in the end there's fun in finding a new and creative way to get things done. I say it's not difficult, but then sometimes, out of nowhere, you'll just find the random dungeon puzzle that kicks your brain's aSS, and you seriously question if you might actually be stupid after all. My recommendation: Keep your echoes sorted to "last used" - it's just easier as your go-tos will always be nearby, and you can load the ones you want in for particular situations by just selecting the ones you really think you'll need coming up. Hey, it's ZELDA.
Game is awesome. I like copying objects around the world and using them to get past obstacles. Also copying enemies and summoning them as friends is dope. Music is breathtaking especially the intro mission in the game. It give Me goosebumps the musical score is nostalgic.
I’m 42 and have been playing Zelda since the original. This game is awesome and I love it. While I do love BOTW and TOTK, they were definitely missing a lot of the old Zelda feel, but this game has that feel in droves while also offering some of the best the new games have brought into the series. It’s freaking great.
I think the gameplay structure and style in this game - which is top down - qualifies it as a 2D game, even if it does use 3D models. It being open world is irrelevant, a lot of Zelda games have been that, including the very first one on the NES. That has nothing to do with being 2D or 3D. But if something like Metroid Dread - which uses 3D models for 2D gameplay as well - can be qualified as a 2D game, then that should apply here as well.
Damn you really got me thinking on that one, there is a very strong third dimension to the game, as the world has a lot more verticality to it. Yes, Link’s Awakening and A Link to the Past also had a “third dimension”, however it’s much more restricted. So ye I guess this game does technically count as a 3D game, but still keeps the ‘top down’ characteristic of the other 2D Zeldas
Just finished my 100% run and I gotta say… I liked the game but the game has many issues imo… • the game all in all felt too easy… • dungeons felt very repetitive… • outfits/accessory don’t feel special… didn’t felt like getting something made a huge impact… • I found myself using only a fraction of echos for the most. • the game felt VERY short… • the best part was fighting as link in the beginning. It has the Nintendo polish you would expect but all in all; although I liked the game… I’m kinda unsatisfied. 7/10 if I’m *very* generous…
I agree mostly, only I played in hero mode from the start of the game so it didnt feel as trivial. Although replaying it now with some of the cheese that I've learned could make even that trivially easy.
The low performance is frustrating in part because it just doesn't seem necessary but rather just lazy development. 2016 DOOM has framerate issues on Switch... but it was a port of one of the more impressive looking games on full powered systems, it running on Switch at all was impressive. Tears of the Kingdom running poorly can be written off because of the huge open world... but this is a top down view of a highly stylized game with a narrow field of view, how can it be performing this poorly? And then if its like Link's awakening they did silly things, like for example in handheld mode the resolution drops back to the native resolution of the switch. In docked mode it runs a higher resolution and the framerates can suffer... but it does this even when your switch is hooked up to a 720P TV, its rendering at higher resolution and then downscaling instead of just rendering at 720, which would have been an easy performance win. The fact they just didn't bother doing this suggests to me they just didn't have performance as a serious consideration. Super Mario 64 has huge performance issues in part because of some dumb choices that would have been easy to fix too, but there they were on a tight deadline, working with brand new hardware, and trailblazing 3D rendering techniques, so its entirely understandable, what is their excuse here? To be clear, I don't think poor performance makes these bad games, quite the opposite, I thoroughly enjoyed Link's Awakening. Its just disappointing to see these games lack the degree of polish present we have seen in many past nintendo titles. This is one of the most iconic franchises out there, there is briliance on display here, it deserves to be presented without tarnishes like poor performance and I don't believe for a second Nintendo doesn't have the funding and engineering talent to sqeeze more performance out of that engine, they just don't seem to want to.
It’s ever worth the full price. There’s so much to do in this game and for a 2D Zelda the map is absolutely massive. This game is more worth the full price than several other games I have bought over the last few years.

I actually agree with you. There are overly long dialogue sequences that feel unnecessary. Cutscenes have characters sometimes just stand there for second before reacting, making things frustrating. I’m solving a lot of puzzles using beds and trampolines. Every now and then, I have to use different tactics but that is rare. Combat is not fun at all. On top of all that, there are a lot of frame rate issues. With all that written, I do enjoy the exploration and the dungeons but it’s far from my favorite Zelda game. Good thing I can replay the older Zelda games.
I agree the dungeons are pretty linear but they are still very well designed linear dungeons, so I have really been enjoying them immensely. I have to overall disagree, I am loving this game and it will end up being on the short list of favorite 2ds, I think.
@@StephaniePasq-hg7vt While playing further last night, I’m going to have to change a few of my thoughts. Although the frame rate, some dialogue and combat sometimes still irritates me, the game has become immensely enjoyable. My change of heart came, without spoilers, after I encountered water. That’s all I’ll say. From there on, the game changed for me and became pretty great! I’m rarely using the bed and trampoline much anymore and some of the puzzles have been pretty clever. Now, it did take several dungeons before I started feeling this way but the game did manage to do a 180 degree turn for the better. I couldn’t stop playing last night and I can’t wait to jump back in today. Small quibbles aside, this is a great Zelda game!
I want a two player game with link and Zelda right now.
Can we talk about how adorable tri is. Such a good character and how they “develop” over the course of the game.
