thanks a lot for that Karry. It’s much more realistic for me to earn a bit of money making videos than it is selling jewellery … Appreciate your support … Nick 👍😎👍
@@Nickscreativestuff I'm interested in starting a youtube channel as you are absolutely right about making money process. I also think it's a great marketing tool to get your work out there.
A RUclips channel would be great for marketing if you want to get your stuff seen and sell it. it’s not for me at the moment, but I do get a lot of enquiries about sales … N
Same. I seem to retain more watching these types of video showing how things are done rather than someone chatting away at each phase of the process. I like the added text too as a way to convey important stuff. I plan on doing the same when I start my youtube channel.
Good luck with setting up a channel Shaun. Everyone finds their own style and manner they’re comfortable with for making videos. I’m not a confident speaker so i’ve given up trying and just stick to what I find easiest … N

@@Nickscreativestuff'm thinking of using the heart shaped elements to hold a cabochon in place, which I then add to a round mail chain. Though I guess i have to do a lot of practicing with soldering before that will work
That sounds great lgor, soldering practice never ends whatever level you’re at with it. My techniques changed immensely when I discovered silver solder paste, fabulous for small delicate items … N

Hiya Nick, Another great video; thank you. I, again, like your engineering background coming out in your using a smaller blow torch for the jump rings. I do the same; why risk overheating the metal with a too-strong flame? A very beautiful piece of jewellery at the end. Congratulations. Stay safe, Steve...
hi Stephen thanks for that, I love this cheap little torch that came from Lidl’s. having a one handed operating torch when in the repetition of chain making is very convenient and helps with a comfortable flow … cheers … Nick
I cut links with a traditional jewellers saw. They hold a variety of blade sizes, the finest being very delicate and the teeth are so small you can hardly see them with a naked eye. being a bit heavy-handed they took me a long time to get used to without breaking them … N
If you cut off the end of the knitting needle you use to roll the links, and cut an up and down groove on the knitting needle, you can then use it to cut the links and pull them off without going through wooden dowel.
Thanks sdk, so many variations on a theme with this sort of technique and one thing can lead to many others. Flattening links could work well just a matter of trial and error and see where it takes you … N
Hi Aa, I bought my “Barrel Tumbling Machine” from Cooksongold.com. they are widely used in the jewellery industry especially useful for items that are difficult to polish by hand that have a lot of detail like chains … N
Hi Nick, I wanted to order my own supplies to make my first piece, but I was wondering if I should get hard solder paste or easy solder paste or if this didn't really matter. Thanks in advance!
Hi Mark, I would suggest getting hard paste to start with so then you can add to your collection by getting lower temperature paste as and when you need it to use in sequence … N
Hi Nick, been watching your videos and they are great thank you. Just want to know, are you using fine or Stirling silver. I suspect fine to allow for the twisting of the links so easily. If so, are you concerned as to the softness of the metal for wear and tare ? I am a big user of Stirling as I guess a lot of my jewellery is rings, bangles, etc. what are your thoughts?
Hi Sharon thanks for that. I only ever use Sterling Silver for this sorted thing as I’m sure like you said Fine would deform and mar easily. The trick to bending and twisting these links a lot is endless and regular annealing to re-soften … N
Nick this is a beautiful chain. I just finished a long chain necklace. 😅But your video inspires me to give this chain a try! What gauge wire did you use?
Hi Gigi thanks for that, long chain necklaces are very satisfying I should do more of them. all three different sized links in this chain were made with 1mm wire. however after finishing it I did think it would feel nice made with heavier wire maybe 1.3mm and scaling the links up a bit … Have fun … N
cheers Shaun, I mostly use traditional knitting needles. these metric ones are cheap, readily available, made of aluminium and the smaller diameter ones come in quarter millimetre increments … N
Hi lmb, neatly made links need no extra work apart from bending closed before soldering. There are a few key points to making neat jump rings, a tightly bent and compact coil is important for uniform links also using a fine sharp saw blade with a steady supported cut gives nice clean ends that match up well prior to soldering … I tried to make a video about it. Here is the link if you’re interested ruclips.net/video/LyrKln7rzw0i/видео.htmln … good luck with it … Nick.
