Video Contents:
0:35 - Airport Layout/Diagram Description
1:11 - Hot Spot 3 - The North Run-Up Area at STS. Small, piston aircraft are given a clearance limit of this area, and NOT a departure runway. Once entering the "North Run-Up Area, pilots then contact air traffic control for the actual runway clearance. This is a unique procedure at STS and has led to pilot confusion. This segment also describes common errors involving this location on the field.
3:40 - Hot Spot 4 - The intersection of runways 14-32 and 2-20 near the north end of runway 2-20 has led to issues of pilots departing from the wrong runway. Pilots should always verify their heading and runway clearance prior to beginning their departure roll.
4:17 - Hot Spot 1 - The intersection of taxiway A, A5, and Z can be confusing. Pilots need to be aware of taxiways, and their location on the field.
4:58 - Hot Spot 2 - A portion of this area, the South Run-Up Area, is not visible from the control tower. Be aware that the tower may not see your aircraft at this location!

Thanks, love this! Suggestions: 1) landmarks used by ATC, 2) anything specific to helicopters, 3) transient parking guidance
Definitely one of the nicest introductions to an airport I’ve seen - nicely done!
This is a helpful video. STS is user-friendly and there are good runway maps on-line www.airnav.com/airport/KSTS But sure, the taxiways can be confusing if you don't consult a map.
This video genuinely makes me want to visit this place. This grooves
Very thorough coverage of the 'hot spot's' @ STS. It has gotten rather busy there with the Rwy extension of 14x32 to 6000ft a number of years ago. Currently there is a full array of flight activity: both fixed wing and rotor Flight Training facilities, two FBO's catering to an active/busy Private/Corporate jet clientele , and is a main hub for Alaska Airlines West Coast traffic, in addition to also being serviced by American and Avelo. And lastly, but hardly least, it serves as a base for CalFire flight services during active wildfire season. So, yeah, pay attention to ATC !
Very helpful video for my first flight in. But why, why, why doesn't the FAA paint repeating letters on taxiways at confusing intersections? Cost of paint v. incursions.
It serves Sonoma Raceway, NASCAR Teams run Charter Flights to Sonoma once a Year
Did my pilot training there last summer and found the tower folks to most professional and helpful. They set a great example for students there!
Excellent series. Thank you.
