I saw Joe Sample live, without the crusaders - life long regret I never saw them live all together.

I love jazz so much. Sometimes, I literally cry because I wish I was born in their era. The era from 1949 to 1967, which I consider, is the absolute best era in jazz. I'm about to cry now 😢.

This is one of those albums that made us go crazy. We would sit around braging about who was the best musician in the band. For me, it was Sticks, I was so stuck on Sticks, his drum play was crazy. I can still hear my mother saying, "Turn That Shit Down." The 70s is, without a doubt, the absolute greatest period of music hands down. In any genre! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sticks has been the biggest influence in how I play.

CORRECTION: Hard Times was written by my father Paul F. Mitchell! NOT David "Fathead" Newman. Thank You
