I love the playing of this Barry Finnerty guy!!! He's a quintessential fit for The Crusaders! Incidentally, it appears Wilton's loving Barry's contribution! My heavens, Barry Finnerty is sensational!!!
Larry Carlton only played with the Crusaders in the 1970's. Specifically on the Southern Knights album. And he went on to Huge Solo career and studio musician par excellence. This is Barry Finnerty and I don't think he did much after his Crusader's gig.
Finnerty is an excellent player, which, of course, he has to be to hang with these guys. However, Larry is on the highest level, as an original stylist and influential player. His solos on "Spiral" and "Kid Charlemagne" are enough to put him up on the Mt. Olympus of fusion/crossover players, IMHO. "So Far Away" on "Scratch" is pretty much epic, too.
Larry Carlton played for Steeley Dan 78 79, played several years with Crusaders after the Aja album. Juat saw,Larry last year with his band at Blue Note Hawaii at Waikaki Beach. Front row. Great great gig
Fairy tales, and Merry go round one of my favourite … but they never really played that much in public … what a beautiful jazz funky group … do you know another similar ??? Let me know… thank you …
