In my opinion ........ this is 'smooth jazz' BEFORE, there was a smooth jazz. These 'crusaders', started a smoothness in jazz, that can't be replaced or duplicated.
My little sister passed away in March for cancer but everytime I hear this song I know she's back home no more cancer no more sickness she's home with the Lord
Got ya beat by ah little. Listened to it for years. Like yourself, I'm an old man now. I've been blessed with the talent of playing the bass guitar, and hook this up many times, gab my bass, & play right along with them. I'll soon be 76 yrs old if I'm blessed to see that day. Love it.
Oh my word, this song brings back so many memories. My dad used to play it every morning to wake my brother and I up when going to school. Man, it just made my heart smile.
My taste in music was influenced by my father. Whenever we go out to groove with my siblings, we can't wait to go back home to play this kind of music... the only music we resonate with❤❤❤❤. Thank you dad for teaching us real music😍

Just bought my first soundbar. And I played 'way back home' to my grandfather and man he just went crazy over it. He even told me about their album/song 'Pass The Plate'. That he has been looking for, for the decade plus years. Salute to the Jazzman. Mr T.D.M
Simply awesome! Smooth jazz at its finest! Joe Sample, Wayne Henderson, and Mr. Gerald Albright in honor of Mr. Wilton Felder -- they couldn't have gotten a better tenor saxophonist than Gerald! Joe Sample....what can I say....they absolute best on keyboards!! LOVE THIS!
Deeply in Love with this group, it brings back the nostalgic memories of my childhood, my late uncle used to play it on the LP, while busy polishing his two - toned flosheim shoes...
Oh yes those good old days.. On a sunny Sunday morning children wud be playing joyfully in the garden, mothers preparing lunch in the kitchen...nice smell of good food in the air...or those days are gone ...ja neh
I've love this song since my youth 16, growing up in Detroit, Michigan, in the Jeffries projects, playing chess, sipping some wine, toking on a few joints, and baby it was on relaxing my mind, body and soul as I dreamed my way out of there. Now I'm 64 and back where the ancestors started GA and farming just like them. Way back home and still listening to the World Famous Jazz Crusaders' timeless music. Thank you Jazz crusaders for the wonderful memories

+mack jenkins , I'm with you about the Crusaders. Jazz will never be the same without them. When I first heard "Those Southern Knights" in the early to mid 70's, I went out a bought all their older albums too. It saddens me to know Joe Sample and Wilton are gone. Let's not forget Wayne and Stix who had their talent too. I was fortunate to see the Crusaders play live in the late 80's.
This song reminds me of back in the day when my brother's and cousin used to have jam session at home in the basement we used to jam everybody on the block use to love us

Very real talk, but there are still Real Good players out there, but the Music industry is preoccupied with Beyonce, kanye west, nicki minaj, cardi b, and folks who know nothing about MUSIC.
I know that's right! But all those greats are not gone because I have a strong feeling that God received them with open arms and the most brightest smile any of us could ever imagine. Playing those Heavenly Songs!
Gerald Albright - A superb player, a consummate professional in concert, and a really really nice man. In '94 I had the privilege of seeing him in concert...I still remember the night and his performance of the classic, Georgia. All hail to the Crusaders!
I can remember as a kid my father would love playing his Crusaders records. At the time I wasn't really into it, but as I got older both my brothers and I took a liking it. This cut "Way Back Home" has always stayed with me. So much that when I had a son I played it all the time and now it's a part of him, deep inside his soul. When ever he's sadden or down he plays this in order to help pick himself but up (as well as God himeself). R.I.P. Joe Sample you will be well missed my friend.
