Probably one of the best jazz performance ever filmed from my point of view. Freddie Hubbard is in an incredible shape and Herbie Hancock relax and efficiant with ultra stable beat.
Truly amazing! I fell in love with the soulful Freddie Hubbard. You can tell his upper lip was already suffering. He gave himself fully in every performance. They are all wonderful. Herbie is so cool! No one can beat 4 afroamericans together 😂 where would America be without them?
It's not actually a blues, in terms of structure, but a modal piece with a very strong blues feeling. The first 8-bar section in F minor 7 makes us think so: within each bar there is a sort of I-IV-V-IV-I movement that suggests it. The rest is created by the sound and the great swing of the musicians. (A bit like "So What" by Miles Davis: it's no coincidence that the album was titled "KIND of Blue")
