  • On Monday, September 26th, we flew from Vilnius (Lithuania) to Edinburgh (Scotland) via Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands. As a previous video reviewed the airBaltic A220 experience, the focus of today’s video will exclude the first leg of the journey. The first few minutes will actually go over the transfer experience at Amsterdam airport, which will then be followed by a review of the short-haul intrra-europe economy class experience aboard a KLM Boeing 737-800. So, let’s get started!

I fly through Amsterdam all the time when connecting. Delays are normal these days, although transferring there is not the issue, however when you start your journey at AMS that's can be hectic.

The retrofitted artificial leather interior with LED mood lights is such an improvement compared to the old fashioned blue cloth interior with incandescent tubes. Though the newer KLM 737-800's (from 2018/2019) with Boeing factory delivered interiors still have seats with adjustable backrests, while the retrofitted ones do not.

I've flown between EDI and AMS with KLM a lot. The flight has always been pretty good, especially when ATC let's you go off Airways and fly more direct (once we did 50 minutes gate to gate, making our 1.5hr delay just 30 minutes, back when they scheduled the flight for 1h45m). The only thing I miss is the roll they used to provide in the 00s (and maybe early 10s). Served in a paper bag with a full (not mini/half sized but full) bounty bar. Yet to have better food on a 1h20-ish flight.
Pre-covid, AMS was hands down the preferred transfer airport (compared to LHR, frankfurt or CDG) as you could always make 50 minute transfers (done it 20+ times, never missed one flight). In the case that you do have a delay (once my inbound from Asia was delayed 7 hours), as there used to be 4-5 daily flights with just KLM alone (EZY did 3-4 as well), it's never more than a 3 hour wait home.

I had a great experience in at Schiphol we (My mum and I) was flying from Amsterdam to Turin on an E175. The cabin crew was really kind. The check-in took around 30 minutes. Boarding was okay we had to go by buss (My profile picture is the plane I flew AMS-TRN) and it pretty crowded but that was fine. The seats were quite comfy in my opinion. Around mid-flight the snacks were served and they were the same as on your flight to Edinburgh, it was nice. On the way to Italy and Back home we had nice and smooth landings.

You're lucky you found a pier where the travelators worked! The majority of them are out of service. Queues are still a nightmare for pax departing from EHAM. Likely a lot easier if you are simply transiting at Schiphol.

I've flown into and out of Schipol a number of times. I only had to transfer twice and that was going to and coming from Kenya. This was long before the current situation and I remember it took me approximately 20 minutes to walk between gates and I had over an hour between flights on both instances. KLM IFE wasn't great back then. The Kenya Airways plane had more modern IFE at the time. I remember leaving Schipol for Dublin on an evening flight on a different occasion and I hadn't eaten since breakfast so the complimentary sandwich on the Aer Lingus flight was more than welcome. I wouldn't be able to eat the sandwich on the KLM flight in the video nowadays or I'd get terribly sick because I have coeliac disease.

I have travelled on KLM between MAN and VIE via AMS and got a meal on both flights and was lucky enough to get an additional meal because my seat neighbour didn't want the meal so I got another one

That section at the front of the 737 with adjustable headrests, is that the European business class or economy plus?
