Thank you for a great and informative review! It's so rare nowadays to find any aviation vlogger willing to review economy class. Most vloggers, especially the big names, are in it for the comfort and therefore wouldn't be caught DEAD in economy, which is unfortunate since economy class is where the 99% of us have no choice but to travel. Week after week of business/first class reviews is pretty to look at, even inspiring, but ultimately not relevant for 99% of the viewing audience.
I enjoyed your review Dennis . I liked your honest appraisal of the Economy class product , a rarity with reviewers these days , yet the cabin class most of us fly in , so the most valuable of reviews all round . As a fairly frequent long haul flyer between Australia and the UK I’ve got to the stage of my life where flying is no longer a pleasure but a mere necessity . I’m getting too long in the tooth to subject my body to the rigours of the rock hard seats of the Y class cabin and look forward to the day when I can feel cosseted in the premium class cabin , but in the meantime I suppose it’s the G&T and a sleeping pill to lessen the drag 😀. Thanks Dennis for the review .
I wouldn't normally recommend Scoot but for your needs, with meals and luggage prepaid their "Scootplus" option might be a less uncomfortable option on a long haul flight: Scoot says it provides, "Full leather seats with at least 38” (96cm) of legroom, 22” (56cm) of width, 6” (15cm) of recline and fully adjustable headrests and legrests." Also, "with 30KG check-in baggage allowance and 2 pieces (up to 15kg) of cabin baggage." Meals are included in this fare - not flash but usually edible. Scoot flies roomy, comfortable Boeing 787s so you would probably arrive in slightly better condition than in the usual economy class. Worth looking at!
@@rais1953 . I have flown Scoot between Sydney and Singapore , but their route network wouldn’t work for me from Sydney to the UK , which is my primary long haul route. Their “ Scoot plus “ is marketed as a business class product ,however , in reality it’s economy plus . I had to smile when you said their food was “ usually edible “ , I assume sometimes it’s not 😂.
@@davidcartwright5591 Scoot Plus used to be called Scootbiz and was marketed as a business class, which it was not. I suppose they must have got a lot of complaints because they've renamed it Scoot Plus. You're right, it's a premium economy product. And yes, from what I've heard from Scoot passengers who've had their food, it's not great. I prefer Air Asia for friendlier service and good food. I've heard they were planning to start flights to Europe and these could be very bearable using their Premium Flatbed option which gives you the main benefit of Business Class, a flat bed seat, without as much expense. I haven't tried it yet but it looks very good.
@@rais1953 . Yes Air Asia may well be an option , and thank you for your input . They used to serve Stansted and Gatwick , so we will wait and see. Food for thought , literally👍
Dear Dennis.....Excellent trip report, I would appreciate if you guys did more of economy trip reports as that is the way of travel for more than 85% of us passengers...anyways thumbs up

Great Work Dennis. Absolutely spot on...its not how an airlines treat their front end passengers but the ones in the rear that is important. I love how your partner missed the cue and you had to give her a little nudge. Couldn't blame her as she sent out a disclaimer regarding having a headache. Keep up the great work of bringing stories of your travel. I agree with you on these seats being more comfy than those old cushy seats.
I have flown on Qatar many, many times from Guangzhou to Doha connecting to Johannesburg and Cape Town. The return flight also required a 19 hour layover and the hotel accommodation was provided with no hassle and was most adequate. I have no complaints other than the following as the seats were as expected, the food was decent and the Heineken was very cold and plentiful. My first hassle was that if one was seated towards the front of Economy and did not board early there was limited overhead storage near one's seat. This was because passengers seated at the back simply unloaded their carry on baggage as soon as they boarded. The cabin crew never did anything to control this easily addressed problem. The other thing which annoyed me and was the reason I stopped using Qatar was that I amassed a considerable number of air miles. I was unable to ever redeem these, either for flights or upgrades, either online or by personal visits to the airline offices in Guangzhou. I asked at the office how they envisaged that I should use the air miles and was told to buy goods at the duty-free in Doha. Never again. I really do hope that somebody from the airline reads this but it will probably result in the same lack of response to emails I wrote. There, that's off my chest. I really do enjoy your reports and it's great to have you back in action.
Strange, l also have plenty miles available but as a frequent flyer l have remained on Silver for many years l enjoy the many privileges QA offer, like priority boarding allowing you to place your luggage first, l have upgraded with miles only last week and intend using the balance of my miles towards payment of my next flight. Qatar offer plenty advantages in order to use your miles or you can gift them to me anytime too 😜 Don’t be despondent with Qatar, they are still the best around. Happy travels.
Exact same thing happened on my recent flight with Cathy Pacific. Hong Kong to Toronto. They said it’s their policy???? Paid full price for seats and can’t enjoy the view!
@@Enlightenment246 Hello dear, I hope you're doing well. Could you please clear a query for me? Does Qatar Airways consider laptop bag/backpack as a personal item or a hand-carry bag?
Great Video! I think the best question that needs to be asked is whether you would do the same flights again with someone next to you in economy? Having those seats is almost cheating the true economy feeling.
My son and his pals just took the same route as you yesterday, Diane. They've literally just landed about 30 minutes before I saw this video. How did you find it?
I love Qatar airways flights. Living in Dubai it is my airline of choice for my fairly frequent flights to Dallas and to Manila. Although Emirates offer non-stop routes they are far more expensive.
If you stay in certain country say A and try to book through their air line services they will be generally expensive compared to other airlines operating. This is because they want business . It you buy USA flight on emirates staring from Indian airports they will be cheaper compared to starting from Abu Dhabi. Same applies to Qatar airline. But I will avoid avoid travelling by Qatar airlines because of Qatars support to terrorism in the countries around it
Hi Dennis, really enjoy these reviews of an airline’s economy class. It really does give you a great way of gauging an airline how it treats the people in back in comparison to the people up front. And you got to travel with your wife which makes this even better. Cheers for another great flight review!
I have recently flew with Qatar to Edinburgh via Doha and back. The service was good and the flight was comfortable. On the way to Edinburgh, depending on where one sat, when the trolley arrived, the food choices was only 2. Not an issue for me but my neighbours had to wait a short while for their preferred choice.
I recently flew with QATAR from Cebu Philippines to SFO . Ceb to Doha was 9 hours with a 12 hr layover in Doha before another 15 hrs to SFO. Flight service was excellent but ground service in Doha left a lot to be desired. No meals provided for the long layover and ground staff didn’t seem to know meal policy for long layovers!,,
I didn't enjoy the flight home to nz. 15 hours - a full house, the person in front of me had reclined his seat for majority of the flight which made me do the same. He was a very tall person who obviously needed the leg room. My friend and I were seated in the middle of the economy section, she was in the aisle seat where people kept knocking her arm. I was in the middle seat. It was a very uncomfortable flight, having to have my seat reclined most of the way except for when we ate. It created a ripple effect. The earphone socket wasn't working properly so one ear of the earphones worked, had to use sticky tape to adjust both ears to work but it didn't work most of the time. I didn't want to drink much because it meant bothering my friend to get out of her seat especially when she was very exhausted. You felt like a bother if you signalled for assistance as I did to alert the attendance. The middle seat didn't have a lot of leg space especially if you have a handbag. It would be nice if they did have a footrest, especially for the long haul. Even with compression socks on, my feet were very swollen after the flight. I suffered from jet lag.
Jesamine, you have just described every journey that I've suffered in long haul 'cattle class', apart from the earphone socket issue. I fly London to Sydney to visit family, so very daunting with so little leg room, even at 5' 6". It's the difficulty in getting into my bag from under the seat in front that drives me crazy! 🤦♀️ I treated myself to Premium Economy last time, and it was so much better, not perfect but heaps more comfortable. However good an airline is in Economy you can't get away from the fact that they all cram you in, to a ridiculous level, ah well, we survived! Happy ...(er) travels in the future 🙋♀️🇬🇧✈
Hi Dennis, I had 2 terrible experiences last year with Qatar from Montreal to Doha and then 2 weeks later Doha to Montreal. Lousy service, dried up food and demanded to keep my window blind closed. However my flights to Thailand from Doha and back were amazing. The crew was very nice service was outstanding!
I just took Quatar to philippines - thinking it would be as good as Cathay, was I wrong! Economy was possibly the worst cattle car I"ve ever taken in around 30 trips to Asia Never again. Dalas to Doha - 14 hours stuck in a window seat - 12 more hours to Philippines - absolutely terrible
I couldn't figure that out either about the window shades. When I asked about their policy after returning home I got a lot of CYA about people sleeping etc. Nothing about it being against policy. I have two other flights planned if I am asked again to close the shades I'll show the purser the emails. Those will be the last flights on Qatar, fed up!
Actually your missus can deal with the headache much better if you're able to book on A350. The cabin air is much better quality and less dry than on the 777. When I traveled with QR this summer, I was very tired and run down after an 11 hr flight on the 777, but I connected to a 9 hr flight next on the A350 and I felt much much better. The economy seats on the A350 are also a little more spacious, as the config is 3-3-3 instead of 3-4-3
Those long flights in economy can definitely feel like an endurance at times. It's unfortunate the moving map was not up to par, but the food looked quite reasonable.
I cannot sleep on aeroplanes so I prefer day flights when possible and I pay extra for them if I need to! Thank you for the video and for your happy smile!!!
Get your doctor to prescribe a sleeping pill. I use zopiclone. It’s non-addictive, and I only need half which is 3.5mg as I recall. Maybe 2.5. You may need the whole pill in economy ie sitting up. Anyway, it’ll knock you out for up to seven hours, and hey presto - economy becomes business, at a fraction of the cost!
A great review Dennis, appreciated. I use Qatar regularly and they are still the best airline around . They were extremely generous during Covid and honoured my status and retained my miles for two years without flying anywhere. Thank you Qatar.
A great vid. We’re travelling from Sydney to Munich via Doha with Qatar later in the year (A380/787) so this has given us some insights into what to expect given it’s 20 years since we last flew os. Then we flew with MAS/ Emirates thru KL and Dubai.
Another great and informative video. I like the fact that you are willing to fly in all sections of the aircraft, unlike a number of other RUclips bloggers who are only interested in making videos of the airline’s premium products. The vast majority of flyers don’t have the option of sitting at the front. I also completely agree with your comments about the Qatar route map being really irritating and not able to tailor it like on other airlines.
Dennis flying cattle class, also Dennis, using his vast knowledge of aircraft to book the only two seats on their own, so he does not have to sit next to the hoi palloi. Impressive suff. Love it, Must remember that if I ever fly again. Great stuff, Dennis & Julie.
Yeah I don’t know if that’s the best seat as an Emerald passenger. With the front passenger reclining he gets little space. Also not the best seat for leg room. Sitting right next to the bathroom is not very desirable. I think he chose this seat for video purposes. For you who do not have an Emerald status.
That’s what I always do on BA 777’s, right at the back, over the Atlantic. I’m fond of the airline on any seat, but snag one of those doubles, and you’re in for a treat.
The Penfolds restaurant is an underrated restaurant at Adelaide airport. We ended up dining there once due to a delayed flight, and was surprised to see the price of the meals on par with some of the other cafes/bars at the airport, plus who doesn’t like a good gin with a nice meal before their flight!
A definite win with the Penfolds restaurant voucher, the Qantas Adelaide lounge is looking dated and the food! well lets just say your Penfolds meal looks fresh and tasty compared to the Qantas lounge choice.
I loved this review. Watching a year after it was posted 10 Feb 2024. I'll be taking my first flight on Qatar soon in the economy seating, so I found it really interesting.
As a family we had a great experience on QA including kids on a 16 hours flight. That was in 2016 though when they were just a rising star. Now they are one of the top airlines for long haul from USA. But soon fly again to check it out. 😉
Going from Sydney to Paris, then returning from Rome in late Sept/early Oct this year. It will be all economy class with Qatar. It looks lovely. I last flew in a jet aircraft in 1990. It's amazing how things have changed. You get to choose your own movie now? I mean, come on. They used to be on the big screen.
I've been looking at flights Syd to Dublin, Ireland later on in the year. Looking at Emirates, Etihad and Qatar economy and your review swung it for me. After looking at heaps of reviews ( most are gronks reviewing) but yours was first class so keep up the good work Dennis ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
Hi Dennis I have flown economy class before with BA and vowed never to do cattle class with any Airline. The way flight prices are going (UK) I might have eat my words. As always keep up the good work. Regards
Great review. I'm flying to Joburg in September and now looking at flights from the UK. Flight prices have shot up so this looked a reasonable deal. I've never flown with them before so wanted to check them out. I feel more confident to book now 😊
I fly quite often, one of the best experiences was with Qatar, I was flying Qsuite , it’s the best I have flown so far. Inflight service was excellent. I live in Sydney.
This is great insight into long haul economy with Qatar. After my last two long haul flights with Qantas I am definitely looking for a new airline and have my sights on Qatar.
Done Qantas Darwin to London heathrow 787 in June 17hrs economy it sucked, coming back the A380 window seat felt like a limo , mind you 5 hrs in lounge at heathrow drinking redbreast whiskey hepled me snooze all the way to Singapore maybe a few valium also
Another great video. Very informative. Appreciated the opportunity to see economy long haul. Looks like a good option for travel from NZ to Europe we are planning for later in the year.
I agree. Also i been looking at flying my first flight with qatar out of adelaide business class but after seeing your video and hearing other travellers coments might start by trying basic economy class to barcelona. Actually im flying to japan next week with cathay. Should be ok
You give such good information and this video is very useful and it takes the stress off me because I am flying with Qatar next week and I am so nervous because I don’t know what it is like but now I feel more comfortable and excited so thank you so much and if you have the time please reply you earned a new subscriber because your information is perfect! Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm planning for my first long-haul travel in years and I'm older now so unsure of how I'd be able to handle economy for such long periods. The price difference for business is so significant, though! Now I feel comfortable with taking economy. I really appreciate it!
We will be flying Durban (South Africa) to Seattle in December. We have done this twice before on Qatar. We can’t afford more than economy class. Qatar has better economy class seats than most of the other Middle Eastern airlines that we have flown.
ABout to book my first Qatar airways and i found your video very insightful and detailed. Was skeptical especially since i´m signed up with Star alliance. Thanks fro sharing.
Thank you Dennis, for this really good and positive review. I like these positive vibes you transfer. In a few days I will be going from DUS to Doha and from Doha to Seoul. I really am sort of nervous not because I am afraid of flying, but fearing motion sickness, jet lag, back pain and everything else arount this trip. Do you have any tips on this?
Hi from Utah, USA Dennis! I have been watching your videos and have been a subscriber for several years now and you have the best travel review channel I have seen. I just think you have the best way of presenting yourself and you just say it like it is and if you fumble something, you just start over.. awesome! You and Julie are Absolutely adorable and please do more videos with the two of you in them! Anyway, keep safe and thanks for always entertaining this Utah Guy! PEACE!
Flown QA on economy and business on several 14 hour flights. Hated economy, the seats are too narrow, hardly any space in front of you, making it so difficult to get through if you need to get to the isle, or if person in front reclines their seat it’s worse, and if you have the test table out as well it’s ridiculously tight. You feel like your strapped in. We’ve also sat in those 2 seats too, the problem with that is you can’t recline your seats due to the wall directly behind you, as you can’t recline the seat like the others. Would never fly QA economy again. There are other airlines that offer more room. And that’s what you need on such a long haul flight.
Thanks Dennis. I am flying from Sydney to Doha then Doha to Dublin in May, for a holiday of a lifetime. Good to know what the economy experience will be like. Looks great.
Now this has been a good Sunday. ! A Dennis Bunnik video in the afternoon, as well as a Jeb Brooks video in the morning ! My only comment would be that yes, having just 2 seats instead of 3 , and being the back row near the loo, would be a bit more peaceful ( except when there is a queue for the loo )😂....bit it might also get a bit "whiffy" 😂😂😂( especially if a vindaloo curry, baked beans, or scrambled eggs had been served earlier in the flight !!!! LoL 🤣)
Wow! I never thought I’d live to see Dennis on Qatar Airways 🇶🇦 in Economy not Q-Suites! 🤩 However that being said it still looked like a pretty good seat and a nice way to spend 13 hours 👍I just wish they’d do something about that crummy route map 🗺️ on the IFE! Cheers 🥂 Hope it was a tolerable trip! 😎
Nice to see your videos, i like them a lot! I am dutch but live in Germany for quite a long time now, my hometown in the Netherlands was Bunnik near Utrecht
Your video being 2 month old was good to watch as I fly both Qatar and Emirates. I have tried their Qsuites Business Class as well and have to say, Qatar is way better than Emirates in terms of what you get for your money. Emirates has increased their fairs by 2 times of what you can get with other top airliners. But again, if you have money to burn and money is nothing to you, then Emirates would be your cup of tea as their Business Class seating on the second floor are the best in the world. Expect to pay around 6 to 7 thousand dollars on a typical flight of over 12 hours.
Dennis Bunnik, Thank You for sharing this lovely video. Good spread of food in the economy class. Am sure you and your wife miss your Qsuite experience. Hope to get the chance to fly with Qatar one day on economy and BC 😊
I flew Qatar from Adelaide to Doha in April this year and it was terrible, the plane was PACKED, the service was poor and the cabin was stiflingly hot. The Doha - Paris leg was much better, we were supposed to fly London - Doha - Adelaide but the flight from London was late so we missed our flight and were rebooked via Singapore and Melbourne. A 28hr trip turned into 44hrs and we still haven’t been refunded for the seat upgrades on the flight we missed. Thinking about returning to Emirates and trying their Premium Economy class.
I flew economy with Qatar from Sydney to Barcelona return. The experience made you really feel like you were in a caged chicken class. The long haul sectors of the flights were complete with noisy, restless, inconsiderate and demanding passengers. They were rough trips. The economy seats are crammed in like sardines, leg room lacking, food average, and the inflight service wasn't great. I don't expect a blissful flight in economy but after all the ovation the airline receives I was left thinking what the fuss was all about. Qatar airlines flight tickets between Sydney to Europe are currently alot cheaper compared to other top 10 airlines so the budget airline feel of their flights is reflected in the price you pay. Doha airport is nice but the tobacco smoke that escaped from the smokers lounge into the terminal was surprising that is was allowed to happen. I guess my Qatar airways trips were probably just unfortunate flights I encountered and it's not a regular experience of their economy class for the millions of contented and happy passengers who loyally fly with them. ❤️🌌✈️

Even in an international economy, there is something about food that makes it so appetizing. Eating in the air is such a magical affair.
lol, I love your comment about eating in the air, it is magical.

17hrs my record middle isle never again . I'm way to wrestless
I cannot sleep on aeroplanes so I prefer day flights when possible and I pay extra for them if I need to! Thank you for the video and for your happy smile!!!
That’s definitely a sound idea going east to west, though I like to book lie flat beds going eastbound especially on an overnight flight.
A bit of vallium will help and a hot shower at airport pre flight
Did 14 hours in the back on QR and found it better than my otherQR 777 that twice (last minute swap!) had 2-2-2 instead of QSuites!
Just flew them from London to Doha on the A380 in economy and was very good indeed. Food was excellent.
His vast knowledge is called Seatguru. Or one of the similar apps 😊
Except Dennis gets to meet all of the hoi palloi as they stand in line for the loos!
@@gobbledygook5786 do they fully recline as well or not?? Ans will be much appreciated. Flying soon
Thank you for making a long haul economy flight video. Most of us fly economy. Last week I did the 16 hour Singapore LAX to SIN. It was not great.
My favorite Australian RUclipsr Dennis Bunnik
I got Qatar on my list of airlines to try. Great to see your review. Just need a reason to visit Qatar or fly through.
Perfect timing to have found this review. My wife and I just booked a Qatar flight from Manila to Washington DC this coming January.
Just flown on the A3050 for 15 hours to Vietnam from U.K. I was very impressed with the service
Louis, have you flown VN airline? How does it compare?
The best review for Q A 777 economy, specially you were sitting on the last seats - answering many questions... Thank you for your efforts...
Great video Dennis! I am flying Qatar on Tuesday and Wednesday, this video has got me very excited!
👀👀👀
Hi Dennis
I have flown economy class before with BA and vowed never to do cattle class with any Airline. The way flight prices are going (UK) I might have eat my words. As always keep up the good work.
Regards
Great as usual. Your poor wife looked worn out! Looking forward to more videos to come. Love your adventures.
Great video! I have yet to take a flight with Qatar, but I'm definitely looking forward to it.
Had the same thought about the route map while flying QSuite recently.
Absolutely fantastic trip report guys!
If you have to endure such a long flight in economy class, Qatar is the way to go. The best service. Same in Q Suites. Great airline.
Boy a 2:40 AM arrival after 13 hours is brutal
THANKS! Researching the flights, can't imagine sit sleeping ... long flights!
Love your reasoned and intelligent approach . Your voice is very calming .
Thank you!
Great to see u flying out of ADL ,looking forward for more videos from Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 too, have a beautiful time Dennis
I had such an experience last year same flight on economy. I just told myself I will never try it again.
Thank you SO much. Very useful information for us traveling Qatar to Brisbane in March...
Lovely to see you Dennis and your beautiful Julie!
I am flying with them for the first time in June, this was incredibly useful! Thanks :)
I'd love going to Doha; if you have a tour coming up, let us know ! Enjoyed your video as usual.

A great review! Looking forward to the vid on your layover!
Great review. We are flying Qatar from UK to Shanghai via Doha soon in Economy class. Looking forward to it now!
Thanks Dennis. I doubt I will be flying long haul for some time, so thanks for keeping me informed and entertained!
The first time I’ve seen a vid from you. I also have to touch the plane and step on with my right foot first!
ABout to book my first Qatar airways and i found your video very insightful and detailed. Was skeptical especially since i´m signed up with Star alliance.
Thanks fro sharing.
Another great review as always. Thanks and a BIG thumbs up.
Enjoy your videos and your wife is delightful!
We are flying Brisbane to Edinburgh in January and Istanbul to Bris.
Thanks for the review.
PEACE!
My favorite Australian RUclipsr.
Thankyou for your review do the seats you were in recline as well with the wall behind it?
A nice review on QR economy class. I had a wonderful experience while flying Qatar airways economy class to Copenhagen.
In economy they are all pretty much same or worse. At least here you get a decent meal.
I wonder why there is so little information in such films about how comfortable the seats are, which we use much longer than anything else.
Great vlog Dennis as always I'm surprised you needed a mask as I didn't need 1 flying back from siem reap to brisbane in September
Thanks Dennis. I am flying from Sydney to Doha then Doha to Dublin in May, for a holiday of a lifetime. Good to know what the economy experience will be like. Looks great.
How was your flight in the end? 😊
@@shad5107 It was great. I enjoyed it so much, and it flew by. Ahh to be on holidays again, I'd give anything to go back.
thank you for your review, very informative, sharing helpful tips and fun to watch.
My Daughter is flying Melbourne to Paris at the end of the month with Qatar, I just shared this with her.
LoL 🤣)
Really love the King’s Speech, great movie.
Great video, I’m flying Qatar to KL in December, first time. I normally fly Etihad or Emirates .
Thanks for your report - It made my mind up to take this Airline from Manchester to Bangkok
My goodness your so brave for flying economy class all the way to Doha Dennis i could never do that
Try doing Darwin to London non stop, it's not fun
What's brave about it, good grief, isn't the end of the world. You sound rather snobbish.
Wow! I never thought I’d live to see Dennis on Qatar Airways 🇶🇦 in Economy not Q-Suites! 🤩
However that being said it still looked like a pretty good seat and a nice way to spend 13 hours 👍I just wish they’d do something about that crummy route map 🗺️ on the IFE!
Cheers 🥂
Hope it was a tolerable trip! 😎
G'day Dennis love your work mate. Great to hear an Aussie bloke's accent. Prayers to you and your wife and family from NZ. ✝😁
Thank you very much, Dennis, for sharing your wonderful flight documentary video with us.
Thanks for the economy experience. I will be traveling on Qutar in July and wanted to know what it was like.
Enjoyed watching your video! It's quite interesting and informative! 💕💕
