That being said, there is no middle of the road with a VW. You either get a really good one, or a real piece of shit. @DeanofMachines I don't know. You tell me? I feel bad for you. I have been in VW TDI world 14 yrs, owner, active on forums. Never heard of many engine failures, especially for unknown reasons. TDI has several weak points but not the short block. Two issues CP4 HPFP and the alternator/ ac accessory belt. HPFP hand grenades, contaminates fuel system with metal is expensive to repair. The belt (outside the timing belt cover) if it fails or jumps off pully, it can wrap around crank shaft. The timing belt cover at the crank shaft has a big gap. The accessory belt gets under the cover fouls the cogged timing belt (cams). This can cause engine damage, valves hit pistons. This is very bad. There are solutions, but regular inspections and maintenance is 99% cure. Many TDI's with 200k, 300K miles on the OD and still going strong.
@DeanofMachines I know. Why? I personally never heard of a CJAA, CBEA (or BRM, BEW, AJM, AUY)...losing oil pressure. I just Googled it for sanity a check. Nothing. I ask you why? VW TDI engines are NOT known for lubrication/oil pressure/oil temperature issues. They do have potential issues, as I said. Oil pressure is not one of them. Why did it happen? @@Prediculous I have some theories but I'm waiting on parts. I suspect the oil cooler/filter housing gasket between the housing and the block.

This shouldn’t have a hex key pump
Curious, why didn't you put an oil pump in it? I mean it ain't a ten minute job, but they're a known failure point on these
You are correct to wonder why. Its my understanding that the later version on the cjaa is less likely to have that failure. Youve got me curious if my replacement was older than I thought.
@@DeanofMachines I own a TDI, we got my buddy one, and are shopping for a third. Having done more than a few months of searching, it seems to be prevalent in any of the iterations of the TDI, regardless of the year. I would maybe give it some consideration?
@@teceit I’ve given it a lot of consideration many times. My concern is if damage is already done to the motor.

@DeanofMachines I'm in the process of putting everything I got from Rawtek on my 2014 Jetta TDI, I bought the car in December of 2018 and it only had 11 thousand miles on it and I only paid 12 thousand dollars for it, it was one of the like 250 thousand the Obummer administration was gonna destroy cause the engineers tricked the US computers into Making them think they were up to their stupid political agenda global warming BS but anyway I tore it down in September of 2019 and it's been sitting ever since, it's practically like a brand new car I think it has 19 thousand miles on it and it's the one that has all the upgraded options like sunroof heated seats auto start, I can't wait to get it going I just hope it doesn't become a boat anchor real quick.
Ive been driving my ALH 2000 Golf TDI since 2002 when I bought it from the original owner with 50k on it. It now has 221k. Been wrecked twice and put back together by me. Its a base GL model so no power windows or sunroof or heated seats to break. Its been one of the most reliable vehicles Ive owned next to the 1983 Mazda B2200 diesel truck I bought new and retired in 1999 with 579k on it due to frame rust. That being said, there is no middle of the road with a VW. You either get a really good one, or a real piece of shit. Before the Golf I had a 2000 Beetle TDI I bought new and it was nothing but trouble. Made them take it back and gave me a 2001 Beetle TDI and that was almost as bad. Bought a beat up 98 Beetle TDI and drove it a year with zero issues before I bought the Golf in 2002 because I was tired of the build quality of the Mexican Beetle. I hope to run this car another 10 years if the body and parts supply holds out.
My 2013 tdi was awesome. The 2012 was hot garbage.
How did you remove the egr pipe from front to back? Tearing mine down and tempted to use a Sawzall. Waiting on my parts from darkside development in the uk.
I had the motor out
Dang Ok.
Fear not, you can lower the subframe to give you enough space to get the dpf out of the car. Fully removing the egr cooler is another challenge in irself
Don’t even need to lower the subframe. Just need to remove the last egt sensor.
You drove a car with no oil pressure for 40mins? kinda of amazing you made it home..
I know right? I'm assuming it was low oil pressure for days before hand. It just got low enough to trigger it finally...
If you wanna sell it as is let me know. I would be interested. I have a 2014 and a 2011
As much as I'd like to, I don't think I can get enough out of it to pay it off.

90k miles should be good for a while!
Drop the pan and put a new oil pump in there I feel bad for you I have 4 TDI SportWagen I had the same thing happen to my main one that's got 290,000 Mi but when I did put the gauge I had 55 to 60 PSI oil pressure put new sending unit on and still Flash the code I feel bad for you but I would just change the sending unit and make sure I run a quarter Lucas synthetic in that motor they've been great cars to our family got them all for my kids and my wife and I'm in the process of deleting everyone good luck don't give up just change the pump
I appreciate the support and the vote of confidence. There comes a point where a guy is just tired of dealing with a car. Tired of pouring money into a car and overall just ready to drive something else.
The car still sits in death row. Untouched for months.
Maybe its time to do something with it…
Toyota it is!
The irony, I bought a cheap Toyota recently and someone made a really good offer on it so I let it go. The search continues!

my wife liked the jsw so I got one against my better judgement.
JSW ownership is sorta like a viagra fueled rawdogathon in Thailand. It’s a lot of fun but there are consequences.

2014 JSW TDI DSG with 56K running OptiLube XL every tank and just added CeraTec to oil change 2K miles ago. Mahle fuel filter at 10K after running LiquiMoly Diesel Purge and getting 34 mpg combined and 42 mpg on highway. Oh noooooo!!!! Maybe next vid can contain options on what would be required to fix it? What if you put in a new oil pump and just rolled the dice to see how many more miles you could get out of it?
Unfortunately the oil pump on this series of CJAA isn't known to fail. There is another failure pint that is common and matches the failure symptoms I experienced. I can promise you there will be more videos on this car.

What about the second time it blew up?
@@gmcjetpilot mine got plenty of service and attention. Both motors failed due to oiling issues.

Did you tear engine down? Look for cause? Look at oil pump keyway? Sorry, it's rare with the CJAA. Two? Bad luck, my friend. Not saying your experience is not real, but it's "not a thing". VW TDI engines are NOT known for lubrication/oil pressure/oil temperature issues. They do have potential issues, as I said. Oil pressure is not one of them. Why did it happen?
