Impressive Ryan! I’m looking forward to you grilling with your homemade charcoal. Seems like a fun project to tinker with different wood and time to make custom batches :)
I have watched you for some time now but don’t recall what your name is. Also when you go to light it would one of those torches work that I’ve seen people seer their steaks with. I like this idea and hope to try it, I’ve got 4 hard wood trees to come down in the near future so that would be great
I think if you would use a lid with no holes and drill three or four quarter inch holes evenly spaced on the side of the bucket, near the bottom, that would put the gasses to use and help heat the bucket. Also pieces no bigger then the size of your wrist work best. Approximately 4 inch diameter. And pack container as tightly as possible for a even cook and no chance to burn away. Once the gasses stop coming out of the holes then plug the holes with sand and you're done. Maximum yield, quickest time and least amount of fuel needed
Ralphie, keeping an eye on things! Thanks for sharing this with everyone.

Thank you I will put these tips to work on my next batch!
Next time, put the hole at the bottom, i.e., turn the bucket upside down.
Thank you I will give that a try next batch!
