I can't even imagine the man hours involved in the cars you've restored and currently are in the process of restoring. The cost of the labor must be astronomical. You guys do excellent work, and I bet you get top wage for it, or at least you should.

  • @marcfarthing6974

Followed this build in its entirety and just a general enquiry. The majority of restoration required is getting back to heathy metal, have you ever considered laser rust removal to achieve this. As technology of backpack mounted units and cost have dropped since their introduction. Providing a greater retention of original material. General thought, only. Great work as always.

One thing I wonder about, would you guys ever want to expand to having your own media blaster for sheetmetal like this? The amount of dust made by sanding down/wirebrushing the paint and bondo away from the metal must be a bit of a hassle to clean up afterwards. I'm not really knowledgable in the advantages though, I was just a run-of-the-mill rust repair guy that usually just cut rust out and slapped on aftermarket bits :D

YCR are experts, when it’s beneficial to sand blast they will blast. When it’s beneficial to use paint stripper they will. When they use a wire wheel it’s because it is the best method for that part. Armchair advice is clearly popular but I expect they probably know best don’t you?

just out of curiosity and a bit of lack-of-knowledge. wouldn't it be easier and faster to use a paint stripper on those painted surfaces? a few layers of paint stripper would remove most of it, and a little sanding might remove what is left.

For instance: what do you think will happen with the factory paint/anti rust layers on the inside of the doors, the boot and the bonnet and the cavities in there when you fry these parts at 180 degrees after powder coating? I think it will burn, crackle, and flake off eventually, and what then? But I am not sure, that’s why I asked it.
